Q3 Art Porfolio

Posted by Klarissa Hudson in Art Advanced - Hull - a2 on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 9:02 am

Hello, I'm Klarissa Hudson and this is my work from my senior art class. In this class we have students who are "passing", "middles", and "college preps." Each section has different artworks to be completed based on their level. I'm in the "passing" group, so I have the smaller and easier assignments to complete. This quarter I had to:

1. Draw a self portrait of myself

2. Draw value

3. Draw with basic shapes

4. Draw an animal

For my first assignment, I worked to create a self portrait of myself. I chose a picture of myself from a photo shoot that I was in. For the second assignment, I drew the levels of shading from light to dark. I then used those levels to draw a ball and what it looked like. For the third assignment I drew a hamster using only circles, rectangles, and triangles. After that I redrew the hamster using the same shapes and just took out the extra lines and rounded out some of the areas. And for the fourth assignment I drew a red panda using shades to show the furs' texture and colors. Please enjoy and comment if you like; thank you for taking time to look at my work.

Q3 Art Portfolio

Posted by Mingxue Zheng in Art Advanced - Hull - a2 on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 7:15 pm

Hello, my name is Mingxue Zheng. The following slide show will contain the artworks that I have done in the third quarter of my senior art class.

As a “middle” I completed...

1.) Abstract Art piece

2.) Self Portrait with Indian Ink

3.) Value Assignment

4.) Basic Shapes Assignment

5.) Animal Sketch

I found the assignments this quarter to be challenging, but nevertheless interesting. This is my first time sketching an abstract piece. I made an mask with two sides. Inside the mask, you could see spiderwebs, checkerboards, shirt collars, neckties, and etc. My favorite painting this quarter is the self portrait. Comparing to the self portrait I did in the first quarter, it is much better. Others could actually tell that it is me!

The value and animal shape assignments are very useful practices to create the animal drawing. I learned how to create three dimensional objects by creating illusions with shadows and shadings. The animal sketch (lion) is the best animal sketch that I ever did.

I improved a lot compare to the first two quarters. I started to take more of my time perfecting my drawings and art starts to became one of my prized hobbies.

Q3 Artwork by Leah Kelly

Posted by Leah Kelly in Art Advanced - Hull - a2 on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 9:36 am

At the beginning of the year, I set the goal for myself that I would challenge myself to create the best artwork that I possibly could. I certainly fulfilled that goal in the second quarter, and have continued to do so into the third quarter.

I have never been one to experiment with different types of art. Ever since I was a kid, if someone asked me to do art I’d pull out the basic pencil and paper and draw a pretty flower or a goofy picture or something like that. This quarter, however, I really stepped up and expanded my art horizons, especially with the India ink assignment. I’ve never done any sort of artwork like that but am extremely pleased with the way it turned out.

One of the things that I enjoyed most about this quarter was reviewing all the basics like shading and shapes. I think that most of the time as artists get older, they tend to forget about the things that they learned about in first grade: circles, rectangles, triangles, etc. The basic shape assignment where we turned shapes into animals was so much fun because it’s something that I’ve never thought of before and made my animal drawings so much better!

Overall, I am extremely pleased with my performance this quarter and I can’t wait to finish my senior year strong with some awesome art.

Luke Risher Q3 slide show

This quarter was a very interesting quarter because I learn a lot about the basics and history of art. Even more so than other quarters I felt like I really expanded my knowledge and experience. I enjoyed the learning of history and also the experience with basic techniques. I think that this helped me have a lot more to draw from when I am doing more complex and challenging art. The techniques I used and learned here are the essentials of art so most of my work this quarter was geared towards learning as much as I could about these essentials.

Art Rosalie Swana Q2

Posted by Rosalie Swana in Art Advanced - Hull - a2 on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at 9:20 am

My main goal for this quarter was to have an art show featuring all of my work from this quarter and last. I worked from september till the beginning of january perfecting my work. I got all of my work framed and sold almost all of my pieces . All of the money went towards The Palestinian relief fund. The money helps to give Palestinian children beds , clothing, food and toys. They replace the things that were destroyed in the bombing over the summer. I worked very hard to get all of my art work done and done well

Q2 Portfolio Building

Artist Statement

This body of work is mostly focused on my friend's band that I spent time taking photos of. I went to their band practice and took a lot of great photographs. I was able to get a lot with perfect timing. I spend weeks editing my photos. It takes a lot of focus, and I am a perfectionist about my photo editing.

I know I didn't exactly do the collage correctly, but it is mostly just things I found interesting and funny. I will spend more time looking for strips of color so that I can make a real artistic collage.

I worked on the drawing a lot more this quarter. I want to learn how to draw hands really well, because they are super challenging. I liked drawing fabric. I learned how to draw draping fabric and I thought it was interesting so I made it as detailed as I could make it.

I am determined to do better on my drawings. My photography has gotten really good too, I have a specific style in the way that I take photos and the ways that I edit them.

Artist Statement

During this quarter I have made 4 pieces of art I am truly proud of creating. I made my first collage that form something else, inspired by two of my favorite fantasy worlds. I created a fabric drawing, without tracing anything. The fabric had to my best, due to the fact that I went with my own gut on how to draw it. Throughout this quarter I was able to express myself using more mediums. I found it both challenging and a little "weird", but the finishing products came out very well. However, I would say that as an artist in "A" band's class I still represented myself through my artwork. Every artist has their own style, and I think I've found my own during this quarter.
