Quarter 3 Art Work - Kennedy Coverdale

Posted by Kennedy Coverdale in Art Advanced - Hull on Friday, April 19, 2013 at 7:36 pm

Just like the last two quarters, our class has been learning how to draw by using Drawspace. This quater was really focused on shading and hatching with just a pencil. I found this highly difficult because I've never worked with something like this before. Every drawing was supposed to look three-dimensional, which was really cool. The other difference with this quarter is that we had to do some sort of outside art project. I chose to do a ceiling tile to put my permanent mark on SLA. The ceiling tile is of the logo from Half-Life 2, one of my favorite video games.

Below is a slideshow of all the art work I did this quarter.

Third Quarter Artwork - Max Amar-Olkus

Posted by Max Amar-Olkus in Art Advanced - Hull on Friday, April 19, 2013 at 11:19 am

This quarter I focused on photography as a form of expression. I got started by being involved with the "My Hometown" project though the New York Times photography blog, Lens. They wanted a meaningful representation of 21st century America through the eyes of high schoolers. The images will be archived in the Library of Congress. To put my photographic style into a genre, it would probably be considered 'urban'. I had a strong focus on the use of color and geometric shapes in the pictures I captured. For my outside project I designed and built my own bicycle.

This is the link to my photography portfolio.

Below are some pictures of my bicycle for my outside project.

Thank You.

Artist in the making

Posted by Sarena Shuman in Art Advanced - Hull on Friday, April 19, 2013 at 7:53 am

I am back to writing art blogs on the photos I redo on Drawingspace.com. This time I started with the section F, since I am moving along in the process. Section F is Hatching, and hatching is when you achieved realistic shading to photographs. I created  different pictures from this sections. My shading did improve I felt as though it helped me so much. If you look below there is a picture of a tulip that I feel as though shows how my shading improved. Also, the seahorse shows my skills that I gained from this section.

Then I started to draw pictures from section G. Section G was focusing on three-dimensional shapes, that makes the photo look more realistic. From this section the baldy with no ears was my best picture I drawn. I followed all directions and steps, this section made drawing come to life and better. My skills and techniques improved tremendously and made me more comfortable with my art.

Section H was a little different, because it was a combination if section F and G. Section H was focusing more on face, lips, and the human body. But drawing these I shade and make things in 3D look more realistic. I applied all the things I learned this quarter and the sections to this last section. It was very helpful and my art skills improved, all of these drawings reflect that.

Then I did a outside project from just drawing pictures on Drawingspace.com. I created a picture based on what I see. I was sitting in my room looking at the vase my mother brought me.n I started to sketch and draw it. I then was finished the sketch, I started to fill in color with red and black pastel. When it was finished I signed it and smiled. I enjoyed this work, because I applied everything I learned. I shaded, used 3D objects, and did different colors to blend. Look below for the red and black vase.

Quarter Three- Shannon Powers

Posted by Shannon Powers in Art Advanced - Hull on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 11:22 pm

This quarter I maybe focused a little too much on outside stuff. My work went into a lot of other things. Especially the box I was painting and improving my personal work. In the future I plain to do more of the course work.

Quarter 3 Art- Julian Makarechi

Posted by Julian Makarechi in Art Advanced - Hull on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 11:16 am

My name is Julian Makarechi, a sophomore at Science Leadership Academy. This year I have decided to take a more intense art class taught by Ms. Hull. Lately her class has been focused a lot on shading and she has been able to give us techniques to how to do it well. The sketches posted below are the ones that I have been working on through out the duration of the 3rd quarter. I used drawspace.com to help me figure out the steps to each of my sketches. For my outside project, I decided to paint the Philadelphia 76ers logo on a ceiling tile (a picture of this is also in the slideshow below). With the help of my classmates I was able to complete this piece of art pretty well. Overall, I am very proud of my work this quarter and I feel like I am improving.

Q3 Art/Design

Posted by Wynn Geary in Art Advanced - Hull on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at 2:37 pm

This quarter, I worked on a number of different art/design projects. The main project that was officially for art class was the Vans Custom Culture competition. I was in charge of designing and applying a design for the BMX, surfing and skateboarding themed classic vans shoe. My idea sprouted from the idea of transpiration and Philadelphia transportation (SEPTA) in the form of a subway map.

I started out in adobe illustrator looking at real world subway maps and designed my own. After much thought about how to actually apply the map to the white shoe, we figured that the easiest thing to do would be to use packing tape to make a template and paint the lines on the shoe. I stayed for a few days after school working on taping and painting and finally on the day it was due I finished and the shoe was complete and ready to be photographed and submitted.

On top of the work in art class, I also worked on a number of personal projects. The biggest of them all has been launching my website. I used adobe muse and have been building the website since December. I went into building the website without a real theme for the website, my only real idea for it, was that I wanted there to be a business card on the home page with 2 buttons going to my graphic design portfolio and the other to a photography portfolio. I built the homepage like I wanted it and continued on to designing the actual portfolios. With the help of my mentor phil, we came up with a side scrolling circle concept. It took a few weeks to finally gt the website into a form that was simple and easy for the viewer to use.

Now that the website is usable, I’m going back and re-designing the pages and taking a second look and deciding what might be better and adding features that some users asked for. One of the big changes that I’ve made already is re-designing the home page, this iteration pulls from my vans custom culture design and uses the “subway stops” as the buttons for the contact page and both portfolios. The URL for the website is wynngearydesign.com

Q3 Art Blog

In this Quarter 3, We were to accomplish art assignments that were on Drawspace.com, from F9-H2. During the lessons that we were to learn on our own in order to complete our drawings, had helped me improve my art skills into drawing. The website was useful to me and made mine art skills to improve. Flipping through my sketch book, it actually made me feel good about myself that I had improve and accomplish my art skills. In this quarter, I had focus on the detail on each assignment that was given and the hard work that I had put into. Plus, Each student is required to do an outside project in additoin to all of the drawing projects. I decided to make a melted crayon portrait inspire by Justin Bieber. I know you may be wondering, Why Justin Bieber? We'll he is truly a inspiration and I wanted to make something to give back.

Q2 Art Blog

I felt that this quarter as far as drawing was a real struggle. Although I did my best to try and re create the drawings given I feel like this wans't the best choice for me. I think that I should have definitely made my own project but I did manage to complete all the drawings to the best of my abilities. I think that this had alot to do with paying attention to details and making a lot of things possible. I think next quarter will be a better performance.
