1) Negative space is the area around the main point of an image, it is the space around an object.

2) I found negative space around the subject and the subject itself. Half of my cutout the pink was the subject and the other half the pink was the surrounding area of the subject.

3) It helps define boundaries to see the shapes you are drawing. It will make a silhouette of the main point.

4) Negative space does enhance the drawing because it it makes your eye concentrate more on the drawing because you try to find the subject.

Printmaking

Printmaking

Printmaking is the process of creating pictures or prints from specific blocks or plates usually on paper. It is very important because is has allowed for many different artists to find their place and passion in this art form. Printmaking has also integrated itself into modern culture for example grafitti, which is actually a form of printmaking.

In this picture you see a mystic man - or something chilling with four arms with a background of leaves. The first thing I notice is the beautiful contrast between the dark parts of the picture and the light parts that ultimately create it. The picture has some realistic elements the arms, hands, and leaves that are then complemented with by the abstractness of the four hands and the face and mouth. I think the painting is about a human rising to a level about that like godlike or something. I think the painting is okay because although it is interesting you can't really tell what's happening

Negative/Positive Space- cut out

Posted by Krystal Cabrera-Molina in Art - Freshman · Hull · c2 Band on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 9:48 am

For the image that I cut out and put together I was trying to create positive and negative space. As you can see on the right side black is being used to create negative space. The slight pink is positive because it's the lighter shade. On the other hand, on the left pink is being used more creating more positive space. To summarize, the left side has more positive space because there is more pink; the right side has more negative space because it has more black.
Positive and negative space helps artist because it creates contrast. The darker shade adds detail and depth. Without detail you wouldn't be able to tell what the image is. It enhances the image because if you mess up it would very noticeable. In my image you can tell that it's not as neat/clean, so it's important to take your time cutting.

Negative Space

Posted by Joshua Henry in Art - Freshman · Hull · c2 Band on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 9:47 am

Negative space is the space around the primary picture. If there were something drawn all of the space around it would be the negative space. I found negative space anywhere but where the tree was. The tree was in the picture and all the other colors were negative space. It helps an artist to realize how much space you have for your picture and how the negative space will make the picture look. If the negative space has a peculiar space compared to the picture then it could disengage the observer and vice versa. For me it doesn’t really enhance my drawing. I don’t know how to speak about other artist, but for me it only help me realize how much space I have on the paper to draw the picture.

MP1 Art Blog and Artist's Statement

Relief printing is different from other forms of printmaking. Relief printing is when the surface is sticking out of the block or plate is inked. Printmaking is then the pictures are made by printing it from plates or blocks. Intaglio is when the design is engraved into a material. The invention of printmaking was revolutionary. There is different processes for printmaking.

Artists are finding and using new techniques of printmaking. Graffiti is also a form of printmaking. Printmaking is a basically moving a picture onto a paper, stone, or wood. There are many ways for printmaking that artists use for their pictures. Printmaking is important because it's an easier way to many many copies of a picture. If we didn't have printmaking, it would take a long time to making another picture or something and it would also be hard to do it too.

I liked this picture and chose it because the colors of the black and the pinkish red stood out to me. I notice that both the color has a nice mix to it and blends together. It is also a dark and a light color and it matches very well with each other. I wonder if they added another light color to it would it bring out the picture more or not. What if they added all the colors onto the painting and overlapping it on top of each other?

Negative and Positive Space-Carlos De Jesus

Posted by Carlos De Jesus in Art - Freshman · Hull · c2 Band on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 9:43 am

Negative and Positive is and art style that must artist use. The negative space is what focuses on the background while positive is the opposite and focus more on the picture. In the picture down below is my attempt at negative and positive space but a bit different. As you can see on the left side the orange is the negative space while on the right the orange is the positive space. Negative space, in my opinion at least, it's really important for an artist to see and understand because then the artist can know how to contrast their background with their main picture and that can just show make the art piece even better than before making it so that the drawing becomes enhance in a way

The Importance of Printmaking

PRINTMAKING
Printmaking is the process of transferring an image from a printing block to another surface. The importance of printmaking lies mainly in its ability to duplicate an image an infinite amount of times with relative ease. This is precisely the reason why the invention of printmaking was so revolutionary. Printmaking has existed for such a long time that it was even a practice utilized by the Mesopotamians, who used cylindrical seals to transfer images onto clay tablets. Over the years, various forms of technology have assisted printmaking in becoming widely used. For instance, there was Gutemburg, who made the very first printing machine. It was a wooden press with movable metal type, and it took him approximately four years to complete. Much later on, there was (and still is) the inkjet printer.

This print is Church Path, a wood engraving created by George Mackley in 1956. I specifically enjoy this print, as it is vaguely eerie, yet has a calming atmosphere. This seems to mainly be the result of the use of light and shadow present in this image (not that there is much use of light! :D ) Additionally, the attention to detail is striking, and immediately catches the viewer's eye.

Print Making 1 on 1

What Is Print Making ?
The activity or occupation of making pictures or designs by printing them from specially prepared plates or blocks. Print making allows for another form of creativity. When printmaking one  may use material such as metal plates, copper, zinc or polymer plates for engraving or etching . There are any different styles of printmaking such as Relief printing, lithography, and etc. The idea of printmaking is important because in allowed for new types of art in the future.

Why is it important ?

Printmaking originated in China after paper was invented around AD 105. It was said Relief printing appeared in Europe in the 15th Century. The process is believed to have been invented by Daniel Hopfer. The printing press was a factor in the establishment of a community of scientists who could easily communicate their discoveries through widely disseminated scholarly journals, helping to bring on the scientific revolution.  It also Led to the spread of mass communication across Europe in only a few decades. Allowed precise molding of new type blocks from a uniform template and allowed for the creation of high-quality printed books.

Example of Print Making :

As one can tell from looking at the image it is an elephant. The fact that the artist choose black and white stood out to me and show much contrast making this one of the resons my eyes drew towards it.With this visual presentation of printmaking it shows the depth of the black and white contrast. There is also much diversity among the draws on the elephant. In notice that something along the body are more bonded meaning he wanted those to pop out more, which reveals something about artist. The different patterns shows a sense of uniqueness which is what made me fall in love with it.

The Revolution Of Printmaking

Posted by Georjelis Rujano in Art - Freshman · Hull · c2 Band on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at 9:58 pm

Printmaking has been a form of art for centuries and it's not going to stop anytime soon. It allow us to create pictures, words, design anything you can scarve and print it as a picture on a paper or even for t-shirt designs. Printmaking was most  likely used by cavemen as a form to record their stories, even egyptians. I feel like printmaking goes a long time ago before Christ. Then it was used as portable for wars and helped science revolution. It was revolutionary and important because you didn't have to remake whatever master piece you had, it was like a copier you only need the ink to copy the same thing again. Less time wasted for artists, scientists, soldiers.

This is a buddhist elephant and each hand is carrying something different that represents something. There’s a rat in the left bottom corners that can represent somebody stealing. The use of dark spaces is dignifying that it’s a 3 dimensional figure. The design is very detailed.

Printmaking takes places with different process of many pictures or designs from special prepared tools or blocks. The first technique of duplicating images goes back several years to the sumerians caves in 3000 BCE. Printmaking is important because the process goes back many years before and it is was one of what developed modern creative art today.

Print did influence every aspect of European culture. Some suggest that print was used in bringing about all the major shifts in science, religion, politics and things that are commonly associated with modern Western culture. The printing press quickly became central to political and religious expression in Europe as well. Writers and printers like Benjamin Franklin were heroes of the time. Print was a leading tool that helped spread visionary ideas that shaped the American Revolution. Printmaking also helped develop scrolls, during the early 1 AD, for things like maps and blueprint.

In the picture above you can really see a release of negative and positive space. The artist also depicts words that flow with the picture. The artist creates color value and varies them in the shading of the darker images. In the picture you can also see some of the designs giving you dimension into the picture.

I can interpret that this picture is symbolizing a act of greed and your conscious telling you it's okay. The words that you can see are: "You need it all all", "All yours", "You want more", "Stock" and "Money". All of these words have something in common and that is want/need. The guy portrayed in this printmaking art seems to be very focused on the money and happy. But this happiness could come from the rewards of greed.

Lastly, I think this is a great picture to express emotions and a situation through positive and negative space. It struck out to me personally as a picture to reflect on and unfold. The detail in stroked lines really brings out the person in the pictures face and how he's feeling about the money and almost his story as well as what looks like his conscious around him.

I noticed that in the picture the guys conscious looks like almost devilish. I wonder if the guy in the picture always listen to these "bad" conscious, maybe that's the reason why they have come to look the way they are. What if this printmaking is showing what greed can do to a person's mind to make them believe that it is okay.
