National Day on Writing

Posted by Merrik Saunders in Reading, Writing, and Rising Up - Rami - B on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 9:50 am
How does writing help you connect?

It connects the years together by showing the history of the past. 20 years ago some people are still alive but 1,000 years ago all the people are dead and gone. There is no way to know how it was back then. Only but so much can be left behind. Objects don't show detail about how life was if all the people are dead. The writing of the people 1,000 years ago shows the details, feelings, and way of living. To go even further the writing of ancient civilizations can show what happened during those times. It might be harder to translate and understand but that is a major connection to history. The many different time periods you can visit just by reading what was left behind. To the walls of an ancient ruins to the pages of a lost journal all share some history. With out these ancient writings the past would be lost.

Hamlet Close Analysis

Merrik Saunders

One of the things that makes good writhing is the use of every line in the story. In Shakespeare’s plays he shows that even the smallest part is important to the play and viewer. The example that shows this is Shakespeare’s Hamlet. This scene is right before Hamlet goes to see the ghost. Horatio, one of the guards with Hamlet, is trying to talk him out of going with the ghost. Horatio isn’t close to one of the important characters of this story but what he has to say in this moment is very important.

In this scene Horatio is trying to get Hamlet to stay and not go with the ghost. “What if it tempt you toward the flood, my lord, Or to the dreadful summit of the cliff, That beetles o'er his base into the sea,”(lines 77-79). This is the start of Horatio showing his concern towards Hamlet and how the ghost might hurt Hamlet. Horatio is saying that the ghost might drown him or send him off the cliffs. These are generic things that might happen in tragedies and dramas. These lines are used as a masking for the lines that are coming up next. Horatio isn’t a main character and him saying these lines first will make the viewer feel like he is only worried for Hamlet. The lines after these are the lines that are the most important.

Horatio’s small speech is a foreshadow for the whole play. In the next lines he continues to name things that could happen to Hamlet but what Horatio says applies to the rest of the play. “And there assume some other horrible form, Which might deprive your sovereignty of reason, And draw you into madness? Think of it.”(lines 80-82). This section of Horatio’s small speech is saying that the ghost will take Hamlet’s mind and Hamlet will go insane. This is what the rest of the play is about. Hamlet is trying to find out if the ghost is real and if he is going insane. This small part at the beginning of the play has mapped out the entire play. Everyone around Hamlet thinks that he is insane and his actions are irrational. This is what Horatio warned, that Hamlet could go insane from seeing his dead father or just experiencing a paranormal incident. Also Hamlet is carrying the pain and grief of his recent fathers death, mom marrying his uncle with great hast, and Polonius trying to get him away from Ophelia. Seeing his fathers ghost could be the thing that pushed him over the edge. From the beginning of this play Horatio has given an overview of what was to come.

The last part of Horatio’s speech is saying how fear can be stricken into the best and strongest of us. “The very place puts toys of desperation, Without more motive, into every brain That looks so many fathoms to the sea, And hears it roar beneath.” This whole section is saying that even the strongest of people can look over a cliff into the sea and they will be filled with despair. The despair would come from talking with the ghost. Into the play Hamlet starts to question himself and questions if what he is doing is wright. When it comes down to it Hamlet goes through with his plan to kill his uncle but in the process he is filled with fear of himself.

This small section shows that every line and character is important to the story. From the very beginning there was this foreshadowing from Horatio. Horatio tried to stop Hamlet from seeing the ghost. Maybe Horatio was right and Hamlet would have been better off not seeing the ghost. The rest of the play tells that.

Story From Crazy Mans Perspective

I have been called many things according to my situation.  Today I spot a little girl all by herself.  Probably a runaway just like all the others, perfect.  When I approach her she seems scared and alone.  She is just so trusting of me.  So desperate for help that an old man like myself would seem harmless.  She tells me of how she wants to be a blacksmith.  Stupid little girl doesn't she know in this time they would never allow a girl to work as a blacksmith.  But somehow she hopes to become one.  Just what I like, for them to have hope so I can take it away.  I tell her I know the best blacksmith in town and that I am a craftsman.  All we have to do is ride up to my house to get my supplies.  Surprisingly she gets in the car with me so willingly.  Does she really think that I can make her dream come true, is she that hopeful?  Well this makes my job easier and more fun.  I’ll show her soon.  As we drive she tells me how hard her life was were she came from.  As if I care about where she is from or how she got here.  All I care about is how hopeful she was to be a blacksmith.  Something about that makes it all the better.  When I get down to business its gonna taste so good.
It is night now and we aren’t to my house yet.  I tell the girl that we will stop at an Inn and stay for the night.  When we get to the Inn she tells me that her name is Sam.  We go up to the room and she goes straight to bed.  It has been a long day for her.  The only thing she had with her was a small backpack.  I decide to look through it.  Just the usual travel bag.  At the bottom of the bag there is her diary.  Now I can see what is really going on in her head.  Sam only lived with her dad.  He wasn’t the meanest person but also wasn’t the nicest.  Whenever Sam would mention becoming a blacksmith he would scold her.  Any of Sam’s dreams that she had her Dad would shut them down no matter what it was.  He must of made up a plan for her.  Also Sam wrote that her mother disappeared.  It was around the area where I live, where we are heading tomorrow.  I’ve learned a lot and can use this to my advantage.  Her pain will make this so much better.
It is the morning now and we get ready to check out.  As we wait, I tell her that I may be able to find her mother.  Sam looks surprised and happy that I have this information.  Luckily she already told me about her mother in the car ride up to the Inn.  I need to pay attention now on getting to my house the fastest way possible.  I tell Sam I have a surprise for her when we get to the house.  Sam looks up at me with joy in her eyes.  Little does she know I’m just playing with her emotions.  How can one chilled believe and trusting so much of a stranger?  I’ve seen many runaways and they are all the same.  They think that their life is hard but when they have no one they really see how bad life can be.  Now Sam is all alone; desperate for someone to help.  But no one is coming for her.  That is why she is perfect for what I do.
We finally arrive at my house.  Its show time.  As I lead her up the steps to my house I try to contain myself.  I have to stay in character until the time is right.  Sam asks me where are my tools at?  I say in the basement, they’re always in the basement.  As Sam reaches the bottom of the steps I quickly go down with her closing the door behind me.  It locks and I’m the only one with the key.  She sees that there are no tools for crafting of any sort.  No, these are my crafting tools that I use to cut up and eat my victims.  Sam tries to run but her head meets my bat.  Let the feeding begin.
First I take out my false teeth to reveal my sharpened ones underneath.  I get my tools ready and I bound Sam’s hands and feet to the table.  I can already tell this one is going to taste so good.  My bounded meal finally awakes.  Sam drastically tries to shake herself loose from the table but my knots are far too tight.  I sit at the table and began my feast.  This is the surprize that I had for her.  To trust an old man like myself was the worst mistake ever.  Now she will wish she had never left her father or anyone else.  I tell Sam that I have one last thing to show her.  I go over to my chest, trying to find what i need.  I have found it.  Slowly I bring it over to the table being very careful to to let Sam see what it is.  I place it on the table and force her head to look at what was on the table.  I saw that look in Sam’s eyes that she knew exactly what was on the table.  It was a head but not just any head.  This was the head of her mother.  Yes I was the one who took poor Sam’s mother and now she knows the truth.  Sam came to these parts to find her mother and that she did.  She was never missing at all.  I made sure to make it seem like a business trip gone bad.  Now Sam knows what happened, I think I will show her first hand what I did to her mother.  So now I sit at the table and begin my feast.  I take a meat cleaver and chop off one of Sam’s fingers.  I take my first bite of the delicious flesh.  I knew this would be good.

Project Reflection

Posted by Merrik Saunders in American History - Jonas on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at 11:52 am
What surprised you most about this information?
It surprised me how so mank people want to come to the US but when people first started coming to America they pushed the Native Americans out of there land.
What seemed quite obvious about explaining this data set?
When ever the US is doing good they let people in but as soon as things start going bad they want to kick immigrants out.
Looking at the overall trend and incorporating what you know about the US presently, predict and defend the immigration trend for the next two decades.
I think that if things start to get better then the US will be willing to hold more people from other countries.  I think that for now they won't let in to many people.
Describe how you made a decision on how to visually represent the information.
Well since it was a time line we decided to make it in that format.  What ever we wanted to talk about was right there ready.  All we had to do was click on what we wanted and talk about it.
What parts of group work were challenging?
I don't think it was that hard to work with my group.
What would you do differently if you had this project to do over?
I would try to find more things that would effect the population.  I was hard finding more things on immigration especially in the earlier years.

M Saunders English/History Portfolio 2012

There has been a lot done this year.  Everyday my mind has been expanding in different ways and learning new things.  There are some interesting ideas that I have for the end of the year.  These are the general statements I have learned throughout the year.

We have look at a lot of different books and points in time.  Something stands out to me is that when someone is in power they tend to lose the power or lose their minds.  Most times power leads to insanity.  One of the books we have read is Lord Of the Flies.  This is about a group of kids that get into a plane crash and end up on an island.  Some of the kids start to lose their minds while going through being on the island. “In Lord of the Flies it shows that insanity is like gravity all you need is a little push” This is a statement I used to describe the book.  It was the right place and the right situations to easily make a person go crazy.  One of the boys ended up being a leader of the group. At first he mad all the right decisions on how to get of the island but soon after he started to lose his mind.  This shows how easily you can lose your mind.

Also another thing we looked at was the French Revolution.  What we did was we chose people to research and we had to act like that person.  The person that I chose was Maximilien Robespierre.  He was one of the main people in the revolution.  Through out the revolution he started to get worse and worse in what he does.  At first he really helped the people. Right after the king died he took control.  It wasn’t that bad then but latter on is when it started going down hill.  A major part of the revolution was when Robespierre passed a law that said if he thought that some one was against him then he could just kill them with no trial.  From Robespierre paranoia he ended up killing a lot of people.  Soon after Robespierre was overthrown and killed.

Another role playing activity we did was the Cortez trial.  This was about when Cortez and his men when to see the Aztecs but ended up taking over there land.  There were different roles that we had to act as.  It was Cortez, Cortez men, System, King, and Aztec people.  What we had to do in this activity was prove that a certain group was guiltier in the takeover of the Aztecs.  It was run like an actual courtroom with opening statements and cross-examinations.  At the end of the trial each group would give there closing statements and we had to assign points of guilt to the most guilty person we thought was.  Something that I thought was interesting was that in the research done Cortez didn’t listen to orders and did what he wanted.  He was the leader of the men who were just supposed to explore this land but instead he took it over.  The king sent notes and people to go after Cortez. Cortez just ended up killing them.  Having the power to just control a group of people to do what you want is too much for people.  Cortez got greedy and tried to take all of the Aztecs gold and land. Maybe if another person were in charge then the Aztec wouldn’t have been taken over.

Throughout the year we have done a lot of interesting and creative things.  For most of these you really had to think about how to use your skills in different ways to make your project that much better.  Creative thinking can make a project better.

One of the things that we did was called Art In the Open.  The main thing we did was we had to find a space around our school and create a piece that used different movements and used the space in different ways.  At first I wasn’t used to just moving around the way that we did in this project.  There were people that came to the school that showed us some techniques to help us create these pieces.  This was really getting out of most peoples comfort zones.  If you wanted this to go well you had to really come out of your comfort zone and be really creative with the way your body would move in this new way.  If no ideas were coming out or people weren’t really trying then it would just be a bland piece but with each groups creativity added to the project. That is what made these pieces interesting and enjoyable to watch.  With out the creativity this wouldn’t have worked.

The assignment was to make a guide to get around in Philadelphia.  We did a web site so that people could see it easier.  I learned that it was harder to explain the place you lived all your life to some one else that may not know it as well.  I think that the projects turned out all right.  The Spanish could be better but for the project it wasn’t that bad.  If I were to do this again I would try and explain the places better so that some one could better understand the place.

M Saunders Language Autobiography

Introduction:

What we did was wright a paper on the way people talk and ways our selfs talk.  At first I had a hard time thinking of a topic.  One way to communicate is by writing so I decided to wright about that.  I have seen the different ways people speak and how big of an impact it has on society.

Language Autobiography:

Language Autobiography
Merrik Saunders

I am about the worst speller you will ever meet.  I can mess up the simplest words or the hardest words.  Any way I try, I can’t get it.  If I ask you how to spell something they’ll just say back sound it out.  Ok I’ll sound it out.  Now I spell the word wrong and the teacher would get angry with me.  When I was younger nobody would tell me how to spell a word.  They would tell me to look it up or sound it out.  Seeing that I can’t spell, none of that will help me out.

Well first thing’s first, this is a sentence from my fifth grade paper and what happens when people see it.  “My faverit tipe of wepons are sords and dagers.  I lik the older wons becas they put mor mening and art into it.”  Dang it I did it again.  The teacher told me to sound the words out and I got this.  Now proof time, kids pass around your stories.  Of course the teacher picks me to go first.  I pass it to some one and they try to read it.  “I can’t read this,” the kid said.  Then he passed it up to the teacher.  She began to read over it.  “Merrik this is terrible!  This spelling is just atrocious,” the teacher said.  Instead of yelling at me why didn’t the teacher try and help me out.  The English language has a lot of tricks and imperfections.  Some people might pronounce other things differently.  Sounding out a word could actually change some of the sounds.  There are still disputes about the sound of a word.  Words like water, tomato, potato, and bagel.  Even just stressing one letter could mess up the whole word. Another thing is that limited spelling could not always get the point across.  What I mean by that is having to switch a word you don’t know for another.  I was sending a email and this is what it said “Alright thanks for your help with the stuff (what was supposed to be hear instead of stuff is the word supplies but since I was younger I didn’t know how to spell it).  One of the minor examples of this scenario.  This was before spell check was good.  But people will not understand the full existent of what a person is trying to say if they have to keep on switching words around.  Angry is a good word but it doesn’t mean the same as furious.

One of the things that I really don’t get is the silent letters.  One of the reasons I believe I spell bad is that there are a lot of unpronounced words.  Things like sword and island.  No body says sword they say sord.  The only thing wrong with sord is it’s missing the w.  There are so many words that have random letters that don’t really need to be there.  How is any one going to spell right with all these hidden letters.  Back when I had real trouble with this I decided to try and say everything how it’s spelled.  In 6th grade is when I tried it.  When a teacher and I were just talking about how life was.  “How are you Merrik,” the teacher said.

“I’m good.  Just a bit tired”
“Not much sleep?”
“Yeah I couldn’t sleep last night”(at this moment I said night pronouncing the gh)
“What? You didn’t say it right”
Then I explained what I was trying to do.  That was the first person I tried it out on.  I knew that most people wouldn’t get what I was saying.  Only like one or two people got it right away.
Now it gets to more why this matters to me.  One of the ways to communicate is to write.  You won’t see the person or see their expressions for what they write on the paper.  If there are a bunch of spelling mistakes what would they think of the person who wrote it?  It couldn’t be a good assumption especially for something important like a job or school.  I used to get made fun of because I couldn’t spell.  It wasn’t the craziest thing but still didn’t mean I like it.  I could be the best at what I do but if on the application has a bunch of spelling and grammar mistakes on it my chances of getting it could be lowered.  This paper alone I’ve spelled a lot of the words wrong.  This to most people is just a small thing but in the back of ones mind it could tip the scales just enough to change the outcome.
The spelling has gotten much better but it still is a struggle some of the time.  I’ll just have to work harder than most people.  I am really thankful for spell check.  I don’t think this paper would have been even close to correct spelling without it.  Hopefully I just get better with practice.  Well that’s the story of the bad speller.

Pipeline Monologue Project

Posted by Merrik Saunders in World History - Block on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 8:53 am
With these monologues I wanted to provide different viewpoints on the pipeline.  One of the things that is major about the pipeline are injured workers.  I wrote one as a person who just had an injury and one talking to his kids about the pipe line after his injury.  With the one of the guy talking to his family I wanted to get the view of somebody that is already home and how they would tell about the pipeline.  The last one is a person that is trying to get rid of the protesters.  I was trying to show how a guard would feel about the situation.  They are just doing there jobs but they might have different opinons on it.

Monologues

Merrik Saunders

Good Old Fashion Chaos

Just a week after the surgery Dave is sitting in a wheel chair alone in the hospital.  He is imagining the times before the accident.  He believes he can walk again but soon after falls to the ground.  Tim starts to relive the accident.

Just alone at the hospital I start to imagine the days before I was stuck in a wheel chair.  I begin to lift my self-up, hoping that I could walk again.  The same thing happens every time.  I start to remember the accident.  What people perceive as pain doesn’t even come close to this.  I start to fall.  I hold my self up with the bar in front of me.  The things attached at my hips no longer work.  The shiny white tiles turn into the tan dirt.  I am scared out of my mind realizing what was going to happen.  My hands drenched with sweat slip off the bar and I fall into the ditch below.  I gave the signal to go before I slipped.  My other people couldn’t see me from the massive crane and pipe it was holding.  In ten seconds the metal is on top of me crushing my legs.  Snapping all of the bones.  I let out a scream.  One of those screams that show true pain and suffering.  The rest of my men take what seems like an eternity to get the pipe off of me.  Why the hell was is so damn hard to get a pipe out of a ditch?  The searing pain turns into a numb feeling.  I start to see blackness.  Then just like that I am strapped down to what I think is a table of some sort.  The sharp knives start to tear open my legs exposing the damage that has been done.  Men and woman are rushing around me in blue masks and robes.  I start to convulse in pain.  Two seconds later the darkness is back to drag me down again.  The nurse is running towards me in great haste.  Am I back in the hospital now?  The white tiles are back and my legs are healed but not working.  They wheel me back to my room to lie down.  Damn it happened again.

Just Doing My Job

Greg is at the White House keeping guard.  He sees the protesters starting to swarm in.  He gets a call to rally up his men and take care of them.

Stupid tree huggers, they are always getting in the way.  No mater what this pipe is going to happen so they should just suck it up.  Do they realize the good that will come from all of this?  It will make it way easier to get oil to the states.  The oil prices will go significantly down.  I thought these people wanted the oil price down.

Get call to get rid of the protesters

“Yes Sir. I’ll get right on it” I should probably get down there.  My men and I started down the stairs of the Whit House to confront the protesters.  They are instructed to leave the premises but of course they gave us a hard time.  Then there was this one guy who wouldn’t move.  No mater what we said he wasn’t budging.  We start to move towards the one person.  Then out of know were the guy pulls out a knife and starts to run towards me screaming.  “You will pay for killing the earth,” he said.  Then I reach into my suit jacket and pull out my gun.  “Freeze”, I said but he was still running.  I hesitate for a second.  I put the gun up to aim and look down the barrel.  Then just like that I pull the trigger.  Bang!  The bullet hit him and the guy falls to the ground tumbling towards us.  I feel my hand drop to look at the scene.  We start to walk over to him.  I shot the man in the leg.  The man is screaming and holding his leg.  The blood is staining the green grass.  I look at him thinking to my self did it really have to go down like this.  Then they start to take him away.  They really must feel strongly about this pipeline.  He knew the consequences for his action still he did it.  Maybe this pipeline really is bad.  I turn and start to walk away.  It can’t possibly be that bad, or can it?

Playing With Fire

After an explosion while working on a pipeline Dan decides to protest against the pipeline and thinks that working on it is a bad decision.

I get home and I am just amazed at the things that could happen with this pipeline.  ”Hey kids come hear” I said, “Daddy is back.  Were is mommy?”  She is just getting ready for work as usual.  “Hey I have something to tell you all.  Remember daddy’s work, and what happened?  I just got a bunch of information from it.  Things like how the pipeline might pollute the water.  That’s not good for people to drink or for the fishes ether.  They look up at me in astonishment.  A lot the places that the pipe is going through disturbs places that animals and people lived.”  They are just kids but I think that they should at least know about it especially what happened with me.  They ask me why would anyone want to hurt people and plants? I tell them it’s to make a lot of money.  They will do it even if they hurt the word.  Then they ask why would I work to help that?  I say it’s to provide for the house.  With out the job they couldn’t have the things that they like.  I tell them that to not worry, good people are trying to stop it from happening and daddy is looking for a new job.  They go off and play for a bit.  My wife sees that I have told them and happy about it.  About a half a hour the kids come back to me with a drawing.  They say it’s for me.  It’s a picture of me breaking a pipe in half and stopping the construction.  “Daddy likes it a lot,” I said.  I really wish I could do that but for now I will just try to do what I can to stop this pipe from happening.

Descriptive Essay Average Joe

The Average Joe
Merrik Saunders

It was a long day at school and I was exhausted.  I  just went straight up to my room to lay down.  It was Friday finally. “Time to chill and do nothing,” I thought.  I decide to open my new game “Chrono Trigger” and try it out.  It was a good old fashioned action-sci-fi game that was about a group of people who time travel.  A poster of the game fell out.  I wondered why there was this weird looking walrus on the poster.  “No monster could be as sinister as a walrus ” I said to my self sarcastically.  Then I heard this weird noise off in the distance as if someone was struggling.  Then I heard it again.  I went to the top of the stairs to see what was happening.  There was someone trying to mess up the front of the house.  I called out to my mom and she came down with me.  I grabbed my staff and tried to chase the person away.  As soon as my Mom and I emerged from my front door the person started to run away.  I ran and jump off the top steps like a crazy mad man while screaming.  Waving the wooden staff, a face grinning on the top of it.  The panting mouth shows off the ivory teeth.  He starts to run faster as if I was a psycho killer.  My mom starts to laugh at me and we go back inside.  Luckily, I heard the person.  We called the cops and they said that they did get calls that someone was going around messing with people’s houses.  I am sure a lot of people have had their houses broken into or vandalized.  We were just lucky that we were home.

I just sat on the back steps idly trying to find something to do.  I stared blankly on the back porch.  The burgundy porch shined against the blaze of the hot sun.  The big tree in the yard only provided only so much shade from the suns intense rays.  I glance to my cousin hopelessly and asked him if he knew anything we could do.  He shook his head and continued to stare at the damp lonely ground.  I started to walk around trying to think of something.  “Come here, Steph” I said.  Some bamboo fell into our yard from the neighbors’ yard.  I started to look at it intently.  “This would be good to whack something with.” Steph said.  We both looked at each other.  We were at a standstill like like two warriors waiting for each other to make the first move.  Then like pure instinct I extended my arm out to block the high attack from my opponent.  I can feel the vibration travel down the bamboo as if I just hit a home run.  Now it’s my turn.  I backed up then swung from the left. To my surprise, my attack was dodged.  I darted behind the tree.  The two seconds of rest turn back into the battle.  The clacking could be herd a block a way.  You would think that we were real warriors.  Again and again we attack each other with great force.  We are both tired but we still go on.  I dive to doge an attack then quickly get back up to strike again.  Luckily my opponent stumbled and fell.  I charged towards him and strike down with all my might.  My opponents weapon broke and he was rendered helpless.  With a heavy breath and sweat on my face I stand over my opponent triumphantly.  I have emerged triumphant, I have won.  Then without warning we both start to laugh.  I extend my arm to greet his.  I help him back up.  We walk back inside.  It was a good match and I am the champion for now.  Man boys will sure be boys.  Just like any old kid.  As willed as ever.

Now that I think back on this it isn’t much that is unusual about this.  At first I couldn’t see it.  It was so hard to think of a way to tie all my story together.  No mater what it did not fit.  Any memory or any way I tried to put the pieces together.  It was like a jigsaw puzzle you couldn't figure out.  Just then in a split second I realized what the problem was.  I was talking with one of my friends and I was saying how life was boring for me.  Just the same old stuff happening every dull day.  I got the idea from that.  My life is just regular, an average Joe.  Plenty of people had some one mess with there house.  When I was young every one was running around causing chaos.  Most of the things that happen in my life just is not any different than anyone else.  I’m one of the few people that dosent have any extra in there life.  So the main point in all of this is that I am a regular guy, nothing more nothing less.

Element Print Project 2011

Posted by Merrik Saunders on Friday, June 10, 2011 at 12:46 pm
My element is palladium.  My element is used for jewelry but mostly rings.  It is also used for surgical tools.  For the print I used Athena's shield, helmet, and spear.  I used this because the element is named after Pallas(Athena).  I thought it would be cool to have it showing the armor instead of trying to have a person.  First thing I did was to sketch out different ideas.  I had an asteroid and a ring for the other two suggestions.  Then we traced the drawing backwards on the linoleum plate.  With a cutter we cut out all of the negative space.  For to print it we took a roller and rolled different color inks on the block.  After that we took paper and rubbed it over the block and took it off.  I really liked this project.  It was interesting.  I think that my final product came out pretty good.  I like how the shield and spear turned out.  I would do a better job cutting it out if I would do it again.

Merrik Wall

Posted by Merrik Saunders on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 12:46 pm
First off we started to learn the point of perspective. First we found the middle of the paper and that was called the horizon line.  The middle of the horizon line is the vanishing point.  Then we learned the points of view.  Above the line is worms eye view, middle of line is standing, and bellow is birds eye view.  We did our letter in our names 3D in perspective. Then we learned how to use orthogonal lines, horizontal lines, vertical lines, and diagonal lines.  We did a step by step instruction on how to draw our rooms and how to use the lines.  The hardest part for me would be to make thing look like they are going in or it coming out.

I think that Alisha Clark did her drawing well.  It showed all the things that we learned and everything is in the right place.  It is also very detailed.

Goals

Posted by Merrik Saunders in Freshmen Seminar - Kay on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 2:45 pm

One of my goals for this 2nd quarter is to try harder.  This is a big switch so now that I am used to it I now can do better.  An example would be to never get a grade under a B.  Another goal is to try not to be forgetful.  Sometimes I forget to do somethings.I forget it then I will remember at the last minute and rush to do it.

Slide Merrik Saunders

Posted by Merrik Saunders in Technology - Hull on Monday, November 15, 2010 at 10:19 am

For my slide first I changed the size of my name.  It is all about me so I wanted me to be bigger.  Next I made my title one line to just under line my name.  The three pictures I made bigger and made the to on the end bleed off the end.  I also made them bigger so you can see them better.  For the swords I made them a little smaller and in the corners to be a crest.

1. For this I am doing Tú vs. Usted.  For Tú it is informal and used for people of equal or a lower age than you.  Ud is used for people that are older than you and for people you respect.  It is formal. An example for it would be for asking some one “How are you?”  ?Como estas? Is the informal and used for a friend and ¿Como esta? is formal and used for an adult.  The different letter is the s at the end.  For other phrases are different for Tú and Ud like:

What’s your name? is ¿Cómo te lamas (tú)? or ¿Cómo se llama (ud).

Where are you from? is ¿De dónde eres (tú)? or ¿De dónde es(ud)?

How old are you? is ¿Cuántos años tienes (tú)? or ¿Cuántos años tiene (ud)?

An Adult talking to there kid:

A: ¡Hola! ¿Cómo estás?

K: Bien, gracias. ¿Y Usted?

A: Más o menos.
