what is religion

I believe that religion is believing in a high power to look after you and or seek help to . No to some people religion is just some way to get money or just a conspiracy to get people to buy or belive in something that is not true nor real. For most people GOD is the first thing that comes to mind when in al reality religion can be anything for "eating a water melon before bed because the seeds will make you stronger " to "cleaning a house every week will help lift the spirits and bring good luck".At the end of the day religion is defined by believing in something and sticking to it in my opinion.

What are some different messages?

some different messages are that to make the clothes that wear before they get to us the go through a lot of countries and regions of the world that forces people to work for little to no money

How do you answer the question?

I think that mine are not clean because of the fact that i know the hard ships that they face and yet i still keep buying then and supplying the manufactures with money

what was one of the worst jobs you ever had to do?

When I was younger my family owned a corner store and for my friends they thought it was really  awesome but for me on the other hand  it was not. Behind all the food and money was a team of people that never stopped working because it was constantly always being rushed for the demand of food and goods. My job when i got home from school and until it was closed was to fill up all the refrigerators with all of the soda and juice that it had so that they would be cold for the morning rush. I had to carry, move and sell stuff that I had to put back at the end of the day. It was not AYZE YOFii

How do gender roles in Ibo culture compare to gender roles in our culture?

The overlapping gender roles in our cultures are few and far apart.  Nowadays, working moms and stay at home dads are common, and not looked down upon.  The only ways that Ibo gender roles have influenced ours is in small ways, like how the majority of police officers are men.

Define Progress

Progress is the process of something growing in a positive manner.  When a country has made progress, something has changed.  Maybe their scientists have made a huge breakthrough, or maybe they have gotten closer to solving the problems caused by poverty.  Whatever form it is in, progress is always a welcome aspect of life.

“Until the lions have their own historians, the history of the hunt will always glorify the hunter.”

What does this proverb mean?

The hunter is the man. The lions are the animals that will never have their story told. The hunter will always be seen as the good guy because he is the winner. Only the stories of winners are told.

List an example to which you think this proverb applies too:

I think this proverb applies to the story of Christopher Columbus. Although he helped discover America, there were already people on the land, the Native Americans. And Christopher Columbus went into America and slaughter, hurt, and raped the natives.

“If I were personally to define religion, I would say that it is a bandage that man has invented to protect a soul made bloody by circumstances.” ~Theodore Dreiser, 1941

“Religion is the sign of the oppressed creature, the sentiment of a heartless world, and the soul of soul-less conditions. It is the opium of the people.” ~Karl Marx, 1884

1.     The first quote is very interesting, it talks about the fact that religion forgives and it lets you do so much more than what is necessary.

2.     The quote by Karl Marx used the word Opium, which was also mentioned in Animal Farm, by George Orwell.

Is colonization good?

Short term- extremely bad, can wipe out entire populations (Native Americans) but at the same time, can be good by bringing new technology. This could be bad through, because the populous could not know how to handle the new technology.

Long term- can be good or bad.

The nations that arise from Colonization, such as America, can be extremely influential and become a great nation.

It’s important that the country that starts the colonization encourage a new country, and that it lets it be independent if it wants to.

1. History Journal 31 “The world is just“ - In this journal Mr.block gave us a cartoon that showed three fish: 1 was extremely small and has a bubble saying “There is no justice in the world”, the next was a bigger fish saying “There is some justice in the world”, last there is a fish that is bigger than both of them saying “The world is just”. In this journal we had to discuss the meaning of the cartoon, which was of course the richer and more powerful you were, the more justice there was in the world and the poorer and less powerful you were, the less justice there was in the world. Than he had us add something to the cartoon that would change the message in some way, shape, or form. I added a large ship on the water and labeled it “U.S.S Economy” and current running through the ocean that was labeled “Consumer Current”. The consumer current represented U.S consumers and that it controlled how the fish acted and moved, the large fish could finally catch the littler fish with that little extra push from the consumers. Than the economy ship represented the U.S economy and it had a large fishing net dropping down on all the fish but the big one. This represented that the economy only leaves the larger fish to keep feeding in the ocean.

2. History Journal 10 - “What is religion?” - In this journal Mr.block left us with the simple question of what is religion? I had a difficult time answering this because my initial response was... God. However I realized this was not an answer he was looking for I thought of what it means to me to be religious. I said that “ Religion is a belief in a higher power which you put your complete faith into. Than he asked us his next question which was “Is religion a good thing or a bad thing?”. My answer to this was again hard to understand. “ Religion is one of the biggest causes of war, kings, dictators, and “messiahs” have used religions as excuses to kill millions of people and claim these acts in the name of a higher power. It has related to plagues, cruelty, and malice. At the same time though religion inspires great works of art, it gives people hope in a life after life and makes them feel connected with other believers from all around the world.” So for this journal I could not decide if religion was a good thing or a bad thing.
