Newscast

Abstract

For my capstone I basically made a bunch of newscast that talked about current events. I was part of the MightyPost program and so I needed to attract teens using the media. I was the producer, writer, director editor and the anchor. I decided to do this because I really enjoy working with media. When I was a kid I wanted to be a news anchor for sports but now my dreams had changed and I want to be behind the scenes. I am going to major in Telecommunications which is the behind the scenes broadcasting, as well as behind the scenes for all media connection, like the internet for example. Like I said my goal was to attract teens so some videos were about current events and others were about stories that teens would love or find interesting. I do enjoy editing the films the most because I can present my creativity which is fun and somewhat relates to my current major.

This was a research paper made by a student on radiation and how it affects broadcasting. Although the title made sound pointless it actually gave me information on international broadcasting. Although I only read the abstract, not the full paper because the full paper cost money. I used the information when I am making a script for the newscast.

Williams, David. 28 Jan 2013. Jan . Print.

I go to meetings with Dave every Monday and Wednesday. What I talk about with him are some topics I could use for the newscast that current week. On Wednesdays Dave is there helping me film and gives me constructive criticism on my videos. He also gives me a newspaper to find some interesting news.

"CNN." N.p., n. d. Web. Web. 1 Feb. 2013. <http://www.cnn.com/>.

This is just a plain website that I receive most of my stories from. I believe CNN is a great news source that talks about the top news while not being as biased like most websites. Most of the stories I do for the newscast, comes from CNN. I give my interpretation of the stories and explain them during my newscast.

Dear Philadelphia Eagles,

Thank you for ruining the last 13 years of my life. I thought that you guys were SuperBowl contenders, but I can see that I was wrong. Now I am quitting on being an Eagles fan. Hahahaha just kidding. Even though they Eagles have disappointed me since 2004, I am still a die hard Eagles fan. I can remember the 4th and 23 and the Miracle at the New Meadowlands like they were yesterday. Watching every game since 1999 I can say I had some great memories and some awful ones.

I remember the first game I went to to which was 20-10 win against the Bucs in 2002. That was one of my favorite games as a young kid. It was a game that made me believe that the Eagles are the best team in the NFL. I also remember SuperBowl XXXIX. Even though you guys lost it was a great experience watching my favorite team in one of the biggest games ever.

Even though the Eagles haven't had the same success since 2004 I still have high hopes for the birds. I have full confidence in Chip Kelly and I believe he can be the coach to take us back to the promise land. I know the Eagles are a work in progress but there is nothing I can do but support what ever decision Chip Kelly makes. Especially the decision at quarterback. And what ever happens in the near future, I will always have the song stuck in my heart. E-A-G-L-E-S, EAGLES

Serving size: 7-8

12.00 dollars

Ingredient

1/2 cup of magrine

1/2 cup of Sugar

4 eggs

1 bag of wheat bread crumbs

20 onces of crush pineapples.

 1 cup of skim milk.

2 tablespoons of salt.

5 tablespoons of pumpkin spice.

1. Preheat oven 350 degrees

2. Mix the bowls with the ingredients.

3. Bake the 350 degree oven for an hour before serving.

Serving size 2 people.

Some of the food is process and some is whole. The pineapples and eggs are not process and they are whole foods. But the extra ingredients like sugar margarine is process. Its pretty healthy as it only has 166 calories. I say it’s like 55% process and 45% not process. It is very high in natural sugar and process sugar. It also has eggs for protein and bread for bread use. This food dish lacks vitamin A, B and D. Also it does not have a lot of cholesterol. Some of the food that is processed all of the food will go straight to your systems that will be processed and then go to your stomach. Margarine comes from vegetable oil and skim milk. That is healthier then butter.

Margarine comes from vegetable oil and skim milk. So they came from a farmers.  So does the eggs that were made. My specific margarine and eggs comes from Kentucky. I am not aware wear my eggs came from but its company was Foodhold USA which is in Maryland. The rolls came from Florida and my Pineapples also came from Florida. That is a total of 1324 miles traveled just to get in my home. The Margarine, bread, pineapples, and sugar were all processed. Only the eggs were not processed. But the chicken who laid it was.

This meal cost around 12 dollars. This meal is suppose to serve 8 people. This is a lot more expensive then a 4 dollar menu burgers from McDonalds. This is an outrage that a dish served for 8 cost so much more. The stuff that cost the most is pineapples which were 2.00 dollars. Obviously the Martians, Doles and other foods won the deal by stealing my money.

My bread cubes cubes some soybeans and Monocalcuim in it. I have no idea how they managed to add those items in bread  but the did.  I’m pretty sure if I made the bread those items would not be included in my bread. My eggs have no significant source of Dietary fiber or sugar. But I have no idea how to make eggs the right way. Plus I have no chickens.

I learned different effects that food can have on someone. I knew that eating unhealthy can cause an unhealthy life in the future. I knew that liver problems and other serious diseases are caused by eating habits. What I learned the most was from the videos, even though we didn’t finish the movie I learned a lot about the food culture. I learned that the food producers are a bunch of a-holes. Sorry for the rude language but it’s beyond me that a food company can just about contaminate almost all of the natural foods to make them more fattening just for money. It’s terrible to kill the cows, chickens and pigs the way they do. Not only make them fat but you basically make them kill them in the most gruesome way. And once someone talks about it, they get sued by the food companies. The workers can’t stop because they need the money to survive. So no one wins. This is a messed up society we have. Another reason why this world is messed up is because people in low income can not afford healthy foods because 1 low income and 2 there are no grocery store. This a terrible world we live in.

Stem Cell research OP-ED.

Question: Is researching Stem Cells beneficial? Is it worth researching these cells?

Should scientist continue to work on the Stem Cell Research?

This is a debate that has been argued around in recent history. Stem cells are cells that help with the development in human organisms. These cells have the potential to create specific cells, such as blood, brain, muscle-cells and tissues. The research is  used for the  investigation of basic cells. There’s a side that believes that Stem cell research should be stopped in it’s entirety. There are people who believe that doing stem cell research is like  playing with the life and acting like God , meaning we mess with death. But is that the only reason why scientist shouldn’t continue to do stem cell research? That alone should not be the reason scientist should completely blow the project.

First of all there is a common myth that all stem cells come from  abortion. Fetal, umbilical and adult stem cells do not come from the embryos. Only the embryonic stem cells come from the affects of a abortion. One thing that should be clear is that embryonic stem cells are not human. But they are living organisms that have potential for life. The key word though is potential. Science Leadership Teacher Stephanie Dunda quoted “For it is up to the woman to decide if she wants her cells to be used for science. Theres no reason though why these cells should become a waste.”

Even with religions reasons one should not be against abortion should or hostile towards stem cell research completely. There are now new cells being used for research like Induce Pluripotent Stem Cells (IPS). They are the artificially made stem cells that do not come from the embryos like the adult stem cells. These cells must be used for advancement for fighting off life threatening diseases.

In the Documentary Stem Cells Early Research by Nova, 13 year old Lauren Stanford suffers from type 1 diabetes. She can possibly have kidney failure and become blind in the next 15 -25 years.  The  scientists are trying to use the stem cell research to help fight off life threatening disease like diabetes,  Alzheimer’s disease and heart failure. With the development it will become possible to repair or replace damage organs completely.

In order to achieve the goals set by scientist, they are creating stem cells to fight off diseases. Although this will lead people to believe that humans will start cloning an embryonic cell or a human baby. No evidence though states that man wants to start cloning whole humans. They are only cloning stem cells that will lead to fighting off the diseases. As far as scientist know, they are not on the verge of cloning.

The stem cell research has become an interesting topic for years. But the right decision should be what’s beneficial for the future of man kind and that decision is continue to research on stem cells. It is not in-human to continue with stem cell research.

USA-Patriot Act Editorial

Posted by Michael Sanders in American Government - Herman on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at 8:54 pm
The United and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism is an Act that promises a better national security in America. Few Americans are still questioning what the act means for them and the future of America. Congress spent a brief time debating and discussing what the outcomes of signing the act would precede to in our future. Thus result in little information about the topic. Most citizens, representatives and even yours truly barely knows what the act stands for in our lives.

From reading all the articles and comments, from New York Times, there are still debates playing between being for or against the Patriot Act. I believe that my government is doing everything in their power to prevent another 9/11. 9/11 was a wake up call to America, that our government was slacking off. Because of the Patriot act they are now fighting the War Against Terror by hacking in to the accused dangerous people's records and history. Now our government can seek another attack before it happens. Statistics have shown that at least 15 terrorist plots have been tampered since 2002. And normal citizens should not worry because unless they are doing something illegal then they have nothing to worry about. I believe this law has the potential to be and continues to be a game changer.

Although this law is a pivotal moment in our recent history, there are still many controversies surrounding it. I understand perfectly why American citizens should be upset. Although I did mention that normal citizens should not worry because unless they are doing something illegal they have nothing to worry about, sometimes the information the government receives can be misleading. For instance, if a college student wanted to do a paper on the Manhattan project and he needed information on Atomic bombs and how to make them. The government could misinterpret what the student wanted to do. Because the evidence is against the student he might get life in prison. (The scenario is fake and made up) Other scenarios that could be mislead the government would be  like if an American-Arabian brought 3 guns for protection but was arrested because someone thought he wanted to engage in terrorism. American citizens do have rights to the first Amendment and should have their privacy protected. Also in a way government will become enraged with power. The affect of that will result in corruption. The corruption could ruin what America has fought so hard to become. If that is the case then America will lose the value of what it once was and as a country we can not allow that to happen.

With those scenarios in mind along with the statement I made before I'm going to believe what one of the comments made in the A Vital Weapon article. The Act should remain and stay as is but there should be a fine line between what should be looked into and what should be considered terrorist. Every American should have the right to do what ever without being questioned by the government. Unfortunately to do that at this point peoples privacy will remain tampered but for the greater good America will be safe.

Msanders 3rd movie Analyst.

Posted by Michael Sanders in Digital Video -Senior - Herman on Friday, September 14, 2012 at 8:49 pm
I believed the third film about the deaf lady made me experience a different feel of a movie. For the most of my life I have seen movies with dialogue and I relay on dialogue to explain parts of the movie. This movie for the most part relay on emotions and feelings. You can look at the woman's face an see emotion to it. For the story the story really interested me. The plot was a romantic-drama plot. The woman knew that on 9/11 that something bad was going to happen and her husband will get hurt. But she never knew what exactly happened. You could get the 9/11 message from her face and her concern will she was typing on her laptop. She was also very hostile towards letting her husband leave.

The writers could of left it at she was going to not see him again but she had hope. She had hope that she will see her husband again. That hope was probably enough to save him at the end. You could see the husband was hurt by all of the stage propped debris. Also the guys crying look on his face that he was hurt not only from 9/11 but also leaving her when she warned him about the day. The funny part was though the deaf wife had the tv on the breaking news but never watched the TV after 7 and never knew that the towers were falling.

Msanders Enemy of State response.

Posted by Michael Sanders in American Government - Herman on Friday, September 14, 2012 at 8:32 pm
Enemy of the State was an alright film. I believed that the film's story really interested me and the theme taught me something new about the government. I loved the special effects portrayed by our government. Would if our government is watching my laptop right now. I'm pretty paranoid right now. They portrayed the government like some evil secret organization that that will try to ruin anyone that knows their true form. It makes me more careful in certain situations.

Individuals really have no privacy. Like what someone quoted in the movie: " You can't say Bomb, President or any other words related to the two with privacy. And even if you did absolutely nothing, the government could still be out against you. I believe that the government is taking situations to the extreme and needs to consider peoples privacy unless they are "BAD". Even  that do not ruin the man's job and especially their love life.

Like mentioned before our citizens privacy should be contained unless the government knows they are terrorist and the government shouldn't spy for personal reasons. I believe an individuals can defend for themselves on small situations.

History B-mark What if Al Gore

My project was changing the 2000 presidential election. What would of happened if Al Gore became President. My topic was a small change but it made a huge effect. What was hard was trying to figure out what would be different and what would effect the change. I had to know what triggered the history. What I really liked was at the end when I got to control everything in history. But I had to explain why it would make sense. So I wanted to do a video. But that was going to be complicated starting a new one. So I sort of took Ryan's idea and made a timeline.

Who did I speak with and why did I choose that person?

I spoke to Jesus from spain. I choose him because he was from Spain and I heard spain had a major strike so I talked to him.

What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?
I learned about his some spanish activities he does in spain. I also learn that there are Cheesesteaks in spain. The are called Filadelfia Cheesesteaks. There. Finally I learned about the Strike. He said it was all the governments fault for not paying the schools.

How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?
I forgot what my original goal was so I changed it to learning about the strike. I helped me a lot by letting me understand in a spanish persons eyes what the strike was all about.

What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?
I did well asking questions about the topic and having follow up questions so the situation wouldn't be awkward/.

What specifically do you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)
I said Cheesesteaks in english. I don't know what the spanish translation was but  he at least got it.

Before

•  What will be your topic of conversation be?

Drinking.

•  What are 5 questions related to your conversation goal that you can think of ahead of time to ask your partner?

 - Do you drink?

 - Whats the drinking age?

 - Where are the partys at?

 - If so where do you go?

 - If not then what bad stuff you do.?

•  What are you looking forward to about this conversation?

I don't know if this was personal but I asked about drinking in Mexico. Obviously I talked to someone who was underage and she said never in her live did she drink.

•  What are you nervous about?

I'm nervous that I might mess up and she will Yell at me and say I can't speak spanish correctly. I had no confidence.

After:

• Who did I speak with and why did I choose that person?

I talked to Nohemi from Mexico She was 17 from Mexico.

• What did you learn about them?

The drinking age in Mexico is 18. Thats different from the 21 drinking age in America. I also learned that in Mexico there are a lot of partis at the beach. Its different from regular teen parties. In mexico its more tradition with music parties.

• How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?

Nohei was a very nice girl. She was my age and understand what I was going through because just last year she felt the same about english. Also she said that she was ok with the topic which was fine by me.

• What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?

I learned about drinking in Mexico. I also learned that Nohemi is a good little girl who never does anything wrong. She said she never had one sip of alcohol in her life. Not that she was suppose to but most teens usually have at least 1 sip in their teenage years.

• What specifically do you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)

I want to improve on talking like a regular spanish person and not like I'm some 5 year old trying to learn the language. I want words to come natural to me instead of looking them up.

  • Who did I speak with and why did I choose that person?

I spoke with girl name Araceil from Peru. I chose her because she was nice and understanding that I'm not a native speaker.

My goal was asking what activities she does.

  • What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?

What I learned are some interesting things to do like how guys flirt en espanol. She mostly said that they say Tu hermonse. She also said she doesn't want to get into it. So I also ask what she does for fun in Peru. She plays volley ball and watches la television. I lear

  • How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?

It helped me learn what people in Peru do to have fun. It was great. Now I can talk about volleyball to Peru people. She also helped me with conjugation and spanish slang like q = que.
  • What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?

I did well maintaining my conversation goals. I also did well on my mental goal and limiting my word reference/ Spanish Dict. Until she started using slang. Then I was lost. But making questions before really helps with the understanding until you ask the wring question.

  • What specifically do you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)

I still need to work on not using WordRefrence as much. I need to conjugate better. Finally I need to learn some spanish slang so I don't get lost again.

Who you spoke with and why you chose that partner

I spoke with Thea a senior at SLA. She is one of my friends who is fluent in Spanish and I felt comfortable talking to.

What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?

She is reading a new comic series, I learned that talking to someone you know vs someone on livemocha is easier to keep a conversation because you know the basics about them.

Partner Samella

Donde es Brasil

Goal: Asking follow up questions.

How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goals?

I learned new things about Brazil and asked questions as much as I could about her and her college. Although  Some stuff I sai in english because she was learning english.

What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations? What specifically to you need to improve on?

I did well asking questions about her college and how she likes it. Wanted to ask others but she had to go when I thought of a good question.

Who did you speak with and why?
I spoke to a girl name Keyko Meza from Peru. She invited me to a chat.
What did you learn about the person? What did you learn from the person?
I learned that again shes from Peru. She is 17 just like me although she is 4 months older then me. I also some new words I never saw before. Also peru is divided into 3 parts that learn different things.

How did the interaction help you with your personal goals?
I wanted to learn some new cultures in different countries. I learned that there are 3 sections of Peru Coasta, Syrial and Seria. Each section has different music and activities they do.

What did you do well to achieve your personal goals? What do you need to improve on to achieve your personal goals?
I achieved my goal. I learned something new. Although sometimes it was hard to understand. I want to understand with out using word reference of=r the Internet at all. O-yeah also Peru seems to love using facebook and youtube.

Goals

Posted by Michael Sanders in Spanish 3 - Gierke on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at 8:52 pm
- My goals is to maintain a conversation with a Spanish person.

I plan to find someone on livemocha but I do not understand that site so I might use someone in our school.

Questions I could ask first are like conversation starters and start off with simple spanish 1-2 stuff.

1. What went well was our research. We researched a lot of ideas on our topic.

2. We needed to communicate better. We yelled at each other a lot and we had different ideas.

3. What we should do next time is to have better communication and have better time mangement.

4. I pick the creative one. because our ideas were put together in a creative way I touught. The cause and effect method was pretty well represented.

what was the assignment?  What did your group decide to do and why?
We decided to make a video base on the tv show cheaters. We felt like podcast would be to boring and we want to go above and beyond.

What did you learn from doing this project?

I learned how to conjugate words. I also learned how to pronounce words better and feel like improved on my Spanish

How do you feel about your final product?

I felt like the final product displayed hard work and dedication my group did on the video. It was tough and we had bumpy roads but we worked together and made the best video we could make.

If you could do your project all over again, what would you do differently/the same?

I would probably manage time a little bit better. Probably film in a week span instead of a 2-3 days span

1.Explain your choice of presentation

For our choice of presentation we decided to do a lucidchart. (Me and Mohamad) THe reason we choice the lucid chart is because we thought it would be the best in comparing the economic changes in the 3 presidents and how they changed the economic standpoint and made the country better. The chart basically compares what each leader did and each President takes control for the better.

2.Two sentences answering your EQ

What is the role of the individual in creating and sustaining change?

What the individual does in sustaining change is change the bad and twist it around into good. They react to the struggles, reform a new system that would set the countrys standards for log periods of time revolutionize the Predency

3. What questions do you still have about business in America?

Msanders Essay

The Life emulatar

The moon is rising again and the mutant birds are chirping . (Yawn). The air smells of fresh cow butt and the sky is as green as my new string beans. That’s Venus for you. It is 9 o clock in the morning again and another day  I have to go to work. Oh excuse me I forgot to introduce myself. I am Zuruck Chew the IV. I am a single father with 12 kids and blab bla bla. I’m sorry it is the same everyday.

Driving to work can be a real drag. It’s the same as always. Just seeing the same thing everyday makes me ill at ease. Broken houses, parks with no tress, stinky diapers on the floor. You know the usual. But driving to work is not the worse part.  The worse part is actually being at work. As a national service guard I do absolutely nothing. I just sit here, look at this virtual box and see if any enemies try to attack us. But it’s so boring. First of all, of living Galactic creatures in the Milkyway, who the hell would be stupid enough to attack us. We have absolutely nothing here to take unless people want recipes on how to make bunny chow. So yeah this job sucks. I mean who the hell wants to sit there and watch a box that does nothing . And I have to watch it with an idiot. And trust me when I say idiot I mean idiot. His name is Ghahu Betch and he says 1 + 1 = 2 . What an idiot. But it’s not that bad sitting next to him. In fact he smells like Strawberries.

So anyway today I had enough. I’m not going to take this anymore. I had finally arrived at the halls of death walked up the endless flight of stairs to my station and sat down and wait. Now Ghahu is talking about how we are dumb and uneducated. I’m pretty sure the one who thinks there are living creatures on earth. Is he an uneducated one.  He just kept on blabbing on about something. And that’s when I blew up. That’s when I told him. AGGGHHHH!!!!! “I had enough. I’m not going to do this BLEEP anymore. ” My rage of furry took over my body and I stormed to the bathroom. I sat down on the slimy and relaxing stall and finally I got some peace. As the big brown and wet poop came from my butthole I notice a strange smell. It was like a hint of fruity sensation. Almost like Strawberries. That’s when I realized oh god no. Not strawberries.

“ Hey dude you seemed upset out there”

“ I’m fine Ghahu I was just”

“ It was just that lately you been acting like a douche and that explosion outside….”

“ I’m fine Ghahu”

“ Are you sure?”

“ Yes, now leave me alone shouldn’t you be watching the box”

“ It is a high-tech state of the art mega super Del 7000. It’s not just a box. And we should maneuver our way back pronto before something god-awful happens”

“ First of all me and my butt have a little date with Mr. Toilet right now and second of all who’s going to care? Nothing bad will ever.” Little did I know I would later regret those words.

As soon as I rose from my toilet I heard a boom sound. Almost like an explosion. Then the power on Venus turned off. In the span of 5 minutes, Venus shook,  there was an episode  of maddening   flickering lighting and  a lot of screaming. Normally a red-alert like that would make the Venus’ sirens go beep beep beep. But Ghahu and I were still in the bathroom. As soon as we got out we left towards our station when our 4 arm,  7 ft , 500 pound of muscle body building boss was sitting at our station.

“ Now you see what you had done” I said

“ You and moi are in this predicament together.”

“ BOYS!!!!!!

“ By all means monsieur, what could possibly be bothering you today?

“ Your smartness can’t get you two out of this one. You two should realized that our world was just attack by earthlings.

“ Um s s-s-sir  w-w-what exactly are earthlings?”

“ Obviously people from PLANET EARTH. Now Listen. I”M REALLY ANGRY. BECAUSE OF YOU TWO, the planet of Venus will go into a planet shut down. NO LIFE WILL BE  HERE. If you idiots didn’t get  our world ends .  They stole our life emulator. I need you  to go to planet Earth and take our Life emulator back. You have one week or your both FIREED Grrrrrrrr.”  As he stomps out of the room Ghahu whispered, “So I guess we have an adventure together partner.”  All man.

To make a long story short we jumped on a rocket, took about a 17-hour hyper speed flight and landed on earth. The ride was boring listening to this man talk and talk. short,  I’ll resume the story to me and Ghahu landing on planet earth. Once we landed I was in complete shock.

“Dude are we at the right place?”

“If my scientific theories are correct I must conclude that we are indeed on planet earth.”

I guess we were on earth. But the place is so different than from Venus. The sky was blue instead of green. The air was a lot fresh then I could ever dream. But we were  on a mission. I could not waste time gawking at this new place We had to  find our life emulator.

“Ok so we need to move forward to a place called the DC.”

Luckily there was a nice earthling kind enough to tell us where DC was. But that was  really far away. But Ghatu said that on the way here he read somewhere on how to get free rides. He puts one hand out with his thumb sticking up and the other hand is behind his head. If I didn’t know better I would say that he was in a sex position.

Oddly enough this creepy guy came and gave us a free ride to DC. I still feel guilty about not paying him some Galactic money. But he seemed to be in a rush when told him weren’t woman. But he did give us some great information. He said the President is in something called the white house. We went to this big white building with a big pointing thing on top of it. We asked one of the stylish earthlings to let us speak to Mr President. Then we found out that we were in the wrong building. But then we were arrested because Mr. Smarty thought it would be a good idea to tell them  we wanted to speak to the President and take something from him.

At this big building that seems like it needed major renovations someone called a judge gave me and Ghahu a 30-year sentence for attempted robbery. But somehow Mr. Smarty found a way to escape. He just took his finger nail and clipped us out of our handcuff. We somehow escaped from earthling prison. We walked for what seemed to be forever or it could have been  about 5 minutes . We found another big white house. This one was a bit flatter then the last one but I got that feeling that this could be the house. But Ghahu probably almost saved my life. He seemed to elude several men dressed in black suits, talking in miles  and wearing guns . Luckily , we joined a group of people  touring the house. So we made our way inside the house and we had found the emulator. So we tried to not walk suspiciously   and we made our way back to the ship. Once we took flight we heard explosions. The nice old humans were shooting RPGS at us. That was when Ghatu took us on hyper-speed and we made back to Venus safely. So now Venus is saved, I am taking my job seriously, I had an adventure and now enjoy smelling strawberries

Msanders Reflection again

Posted by Michael Sanders in American History - Laufenberg on Sunday, November 13, 2011 at 4:51 pm
I did my reflection already but I do not know what happened to it.

  • How did you group go about making a decision for what to focus on for the project?

We had a lot of trouble coming to decisions. We argued a little until we got down to 2 ideas.  Once we were got down to 2 ideas we we decided to do a national holiday.

  • 11th grade Essential ? - What is the role of the individual in creating and sustaining change?

My individual was to make the video ad. I enjoyed the part and it was really fun.
  • How has your understanding of the electoral process and whether or not the US is a democracy evolved during this unit?

I understand that we were trying to get people to vote since we are a democracy. We decide on everything. If people don't vote then the resident is wanted by only a part of america then the whole as a nation.

  • How did you decide to best relay a message to a national audience with your marketing campaign?

I decided to message the people about National election day the way I felt best represented what we were trying to do. I also wanted to add voice speeches in to attract more people and to get them angry. The pictures go with what ever someone was saying or what the screen said. The music background was suppose to provide something to keep the audience focus and not dozing off.

Here is the link to my project just in case you missed

Mike Sanders Voting.

Posted by Michael Sanders in American History - Laufenberg on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 5:09 pm
I went out to the polls 1 block from my house in the recreation center in pleasant playground on Pleasant and Boyar st. I interviewed 3 people: Mrs. Taylor, Mr. Howard and Mr. Schul

Interview 1 Mrs. Taylor.

Me: What motivated you to come out and vote today?

Mrs. T: Its my Civic duty.

Me: How is it your civic duty?

Mrs. T: Because many people fought for me to have the right to vote. If I don't vote then all the sacrifices my ancestors fought for would be for nothing.

Me: That is really deep. Is there any thing in the political systems you want to change.

Mrs. T: So much patriotism.

Me: Why do you think there is so much patriotism?

Mrs T: The rich are the one with the money and they rise u in positions.

Me: Do you vote every election.

Mrs T: Why yes I believe I have.

Me: Well what changes do you like to see in the Philadelphia political party systems.

Mrs T: Actually I think the mayor is on a good course and should stay. He knows what we need more then we do.

Me: What was The most memorable campaign ad you ever watched.

Mrs. T: I think to me it would have to be the Obama campaign ad.

Me: Finally the trivia question why do we vote on tuesdays.

Mrs T:  I really really don't know. But it shouldn't just be on Tuesday. It should be all week long.

Interview 2 Mr. Howard

Me: What motivated you to come out and vote today?

Mr. H: Its my Civic duty. My CIVIC duty.

Me: How is it your civic duty?

Mr. H: Because my brothas worked hard to get us the right to vote.

Me:  Is there any thing in the political systems you want to change.

Mr. H: The candidates. Their not honest. I hear what they say and see what they do. They don't match up.

Me: Well what changes do you like to see in the Philadelphia political party systems.

Mrs T: Helping the under privilege.

Me: Do you vote every election.

Mr H: Yes I do

Me: What was The most memorable campaign ad you ever watched.

Mr. H: Obama ad. It was historic.

Me: Finally the trivia question why do we vote on tuesdays.

Mr H: Cause it is the last Tuesday before Thanksgiving before the end of the year.

Interview 3 Mr.Schul

Me: What motivated you to come out and vote today?

Mr. S: For changes to try and make changes for our country.

Me:  Is there any thing in the political systems you want to change.

Mr. S: Just people stepping up to mak that change and helping our political system. I wish everyones voice could be heard the same way mines is.

Me: Do you vote every election.

Mr S: Yes

Me: What was The most memorable campaign ad you ever watched.

Mr. S: Bill Clinton becomes people say he was suppose to lose but peoples voice was heard and he defeated Bush

Me: Finally the trivia question why do we vote on tuesdays.

Mr S: No I do not. Sorry.

Well like everyone else I had to answer the question De donde vengo yo/ Where am I'm from. I try to answer it in the best way could. This project made me review or remember my old spanish terms. I never really learned anything except like new words or remember stuff I already knew.I am really proud of the production. I think that is what I enjoyed doing the most. If I were to do it again I would probably change the lyrics up. I think they are a little blend.

Reflection.

It was kind of challenging to figure out what kind of project we wanted to do. It was also challenging dividing the work all at once. But I really enjoyed the process of the project. We took a risk and we don't know for sure how the risk will fair out. But I really liked the communication of it though. We might do and easier project differently maybe because this one actually took a long time to do. We also wanted to do a video but that didn't really work out well. I think the immigration is really unstable. Since during the great depression there was really no immigrants coming in I think during the recession we would start to lose because there will be no jobs and no money. So there would be no reason for them to come here. But since immigrants keep coming in maybe because of the American dream and just being america makes people come here. Thats how my friend came here.

It is suppose to commnicate that I like food and that food effects my life.

My first 2 lines is something I'm really proud about.

I would like to start on my first verse.

It was difficult writing while doing other homework. A little overwhelming.

I am from a stereotype.
where I’m suppose to do this.
I am basketball court
to make every shot
even though I can’t.
I am from the joint
that my neighbor smokes everyday
I am from the joint
that my other neighbor smokes everday
I am from the lone kid
who watches his neighbors
smoke and drink.

But even though I live hear.
I would change nothing about it.
Because....

I am from neighborhood
who watches for me.
I am from a buddies
who would fight for me.
I am from a loving family.
who cares and loves for me

.
I am from a tradition
of neighborhood sport parties.
I am from a tradition
of neighborhood fried chicken.
I am from a tradition
of neighborhood love.
I am from a tradition
of family Christmas.
I am from a tradition
of family Easters.
I am from a tradition
of family Thanksgiving dinners.

I am from the bads.
I am from the goods.
I am from a family
Full of neighbors.
I am from a neighborhood
Full of familes

1. Mi proyecto e comic life. I likes the creativity part. I also liked when I check my history and made me ambitious for my future. I was actually going to do recordings too, But my imovie is messed up and deleted my recordings. So now It is just a picturesWhat I would also do is propably make more cartoon drawings. But I really didn't have the time to make alot of pictures.

Msanders English essay.

 What would you say?

                                                                                                Michael Sanders

      1/13/11
      A-Band.

When I’m chilling with my friends, there comes sup. When I’m with parents sup becomes Hello. When I’m with Nana it becomes Hey. When I’m with my Spanish teachers it becomes hola. There are many different ways of saying this one word. Depending on who I’m with I say different words with the same meaning. I don’t know who I am or what my real identity is. It changes from person to person.

I’m was walking to the 30th street train station and I saw a Hobo.

“Hey little fella got some food today?”

“Hey no. Uhm no I don’t have any.” Then I ran. I was freaked out.

It might be 2 words but that’s all it takes to tell me who I am. I usually say hey or hey you, to people I don’t know or people who I’m not comfortable with.

On my first day of SLA I was sitting at a table. Then some kid, I still don’t remember now from summer institute, came and sat next me.

“Yo Mike whats up?” Asked the Kid

“Hey you. It’s... It’s you.”  I replied.

“How you doing? “

“Good, Good. I’m doing, umm I’m doing good.”

I tend to stutter in uncomfortable situations. I am never comfortable with people I don’t know very well. To them I talk like a nervous cow.

According to James Baldwin “ Language … reveals the private identity and connects one with … the larger, public, or communal identity them” This quote would connect perfectly with people, Especially with me. The meaning behind the quote is that language of a person can tell others who or how that person is. The quote means that people hide their true selves until they are comfortable or friends with a person. Until they are able to talk or communicate with language no one will know his or hers true identity. Like in an episode of “Ned’s Declassified” there was a new student. The student’s dad was in the military so she would move all the time. So every time she moved she would change her identity based on the situation. But Ned would eventually find the truth about her. I believe it is the same thing that happened to me when I got my first friend of SLA.

“ Mike, when did you become so funny?” Asked the friend

“I don’t know why. I just say what comes to my mind.” Said I.

“ But you are always so quiet”

“I don’t know why I just do what I do”

From that moment my “Heys” turn into “Hellos” or “sups”. At least to

my friend it changed. I never at the time figure out the reasons on why I do the things I do. For some reason my whole identity changes from place to place, and Person to person. After school for the first couple of weeks I would go and hang out with neighborhood friends. Hey turns into “what’s up my Nigga.” but the next day at school I would never even think about saying that. First of all I don’t know how they would they react to the word. The comfort level is not there.

When I am with teachers or other grown up’s I try not to embarrass myself. My Heys are Hello’s to be polite. I don’t think they would accept a sup or MN. The hello changes every time.

“  Hey Mike ,you are really struggling right now in Spanish. Is there any thing you want to talk about ?” Said a teacher

“ No No it’s ok” Said me.

I would just walk away. I never usually talk to people. I don’t want them to judge me for who I am. I am very sensitive so I try to avoid controversy.

After my day my parents would usually ask about my day.

“How was your day ?“asked my mom.

Usually if it was my friends I would respond with something cool. I don’t think  my parents  would find the humor with the  cool way of talking. Most of the times my cool stuff would turn into a punishment. So I just say “Yo. It’s been good. “My “Hey” turns into yo’s when I have the comfort but I don’t want to say what is in my mind.  This causes me to not know what my identity is. My parents think they know who I am. Not even I know who I am.
“ Michael how was your day”

“It was good.”

I would always say it is good but really not.  I don’t want my parents to over react. So I hide stuff from them. Maybe even my identity. These things not only happen to me but they secretly happen to other people. People of the world today do not know what their true identity is. Like me they change their identity based on the people or the situation they are in. It is hard because in every situation it changes. My situations would change base on my comfort level.
