Topic Summary: The goal for this project was to create a collection of artwork and have it publicly displayed.

Project Abstract: I intend for my final product to be a collection of art work. Since my focus is on life and art, I wanted to have all pictures involving a person(s). My personal requirement was to try to make it as realistic as possible because that’s my style of drawing. I believe that art is best when you draw what you see. So, for my final product it is important to me to be able to draw how I see each person. I would like to carry out the visual with a public display in Science Leadership Academy.

I also got the idea to collaborate with other artists in SLA. So, I plan to be able to meet with them to conference with them about their pieces and to help with an struggles, concerns and to provide any materials. Therefore, collectively, there will be a majority of my artwork, but there will be featured artists’ work displayed as well. Although no one draws the same exact way, I would like the display as a whole to capture parts of life.

Final Product: Displayed on third floor ballroom wall

Poverty in America

Posted by Alisha Clark in Storytelling - Rami - B on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 11:07 pm

I produced a series of art work that can be displayed across a wall. From the first picture until the last picture, a story is told about poverty. I was able to create three pictures that compliment each other to create the final product. The pictures are also in black and white volume. I choose to tell my story of poverty in America to show the urgency of the matter. I did this to show the effects on children who live in poverty and show the American struggle to make it.

Story: I would like to make a story based on poverty within America. I would like to show the effects on children who live in poverty and show the American struggle to make it.

Originally, my objective was to present a piece of creative work in the form of drawing. Through the weeks, I wanted to be able to document my process by creating a website that has pictures of my pieces evolving into its’ final product. I never show things like that. But, I wanted to try. However, I became way too busy to even do two project into one. I couldn't make a website, design it, figure out what to draw, then draw it and then take pictures--- it just becoming too much for me. So, the idea of documenting was done! But, drawing what you feel and what you see is a challenge within itself but the outcome is always amazing. I hoped to gain confidence throughout this benchmark by taking a leap of faith. It was definitely something because I never did anything artisty if it wasn't for art class. I hope my audience is able to see my story and appreciate it because it did take up a lot of time.

Selfies 4 Days

Posted by Alisha Clark in Storytelling - Rami - B on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 7:19 pm
I take selfies to remember the moment. The way I take selfies are usually from my shoulder and up, so not much of my body is shown. But, I love taking selfies because it captures who I am. It is a way of capturing me by the way I define myself instead of the way others define or look at me. I am able to capture myself  by taking selfies of myself while doing things that I love and feeling good. In a way it is a constant reminder and are pieces of reflection. Not every selfie is perfect, because I'm not. That's what makes me… me. Some selfies show happiness, sadness, tons of flaws and stress. I am able to look back and remember the day, time and place; but, I am also able to see a personal evolution. I can watch myself grow throughout selfies. Sometimes its little changes, such as: hair length, hair color or hair style. But, selfies also show features and my overall style. Those are the big changes that occur within my life and are things I would like to remember and be shared with the world. Selfies give a voice to the new age by just a click of a button.

Hamlet: Close Reading

Kate-as-Ophelia-in-Hamlet-kate-winslet-12007258-1023-465
Hamlet:
"Get thee to a nunnery. Why wouldst thou be a breeder of sinners? I am myself indifferent honest, but yet I could accuse me of such things that it were better my mother had not borne me. I am very proud, revengeful, ambitious, with more offences at my beck than I have thoughts to put them in, imagination to give them shape, or time to act them in. What should such fellows as I do crawling between earth and heaven? We are arrant knaves, all. Believe none of us. Go thy ways to a nunnery." (Act 3, Scene 1)
Hamlet ANA

Ophelia and Hamlet are in an intense argument after Ophelia rejects the continuous of her relationship with Hamlet. Ophelia returning Hamlet his love letters was her way of rejecting his love. Of course Hamlet doesn’t take this well at all. He is outraged by her actions in fact. Hamlet and Ophelia begin to lock horns.

In the first couple sentences, Hamlet ultimately dismantles Ophelia’s ego when he says, “Get thee (to) a nunnery. Why wouldst thou be a breeder of sinners?” A nunnery means convent (used mockingly to refer to brothel). Brothel, is a house where men can visit prostitutes. So, he refers to Ophelia, who is his lover, as a prostitutes; a sinful woman. As a sinful woman, she shouldn’t born any child because then there will only be more sinners in the world.

When you are directed towards the third sentence, Hamlet says that he is an “indifferent honest”. To be indifferent honest, you are reasonably virtuous, meaning good. But, he sounds a bit contradicting as he finishes the sentence. After all, Hamlet hasn’t been the complete angel in the story so far. For example, In Act 1, Scene 5, Hamlet is confronted by his father’s ghost. The ghost tells Hamlet that he was murdered by the new king of Denmark, Claudius. He then tries to connivence Hamlet to seek revenge for him by killing Claudius. If he won’t kill Claudius for him, at least kill Claudius for Denmark:

“Oh, horrible, oh, horrible, most horrible!

If thou hast nature in thee, bear it not.

Let not the royal bed of Denmark be

A couch for luxury and damnèd incest.

But howsoever thou pursuest this act,

Taint not thy mind, nor let thy soul contrive

Against thy mother aught. Leave her to heaven

And to those thorns that in her bosom lodge

To prick and sting her. Fare thee well at once.

The glowworm shows the matin to be near,

And 'gins to pale his uneffectual fire.

Adieu, adieu, adieu. Remember me.“ (Lines 78-91)

Hamlet’s mind is set upon this and he responses to the naughty sin by saying,

“It is “Adieu, adieu. Remember me.”

I have sworn ’t.” (Lines 111-112)

Hamlet goes on in a more reassuring way when he says to Ophelia, “I am very proud, revengeful, ambitious, with more offenses at my beck than I have thoughts to put them in, imagination to give them shape, or time to act them in.” It also seems as if Hamlet is trying to speck himself into higher spirits. He says that everyone has their fair share of flaws, but as long as a person can shape them into something good, then they’ll be fine.

But then there is a sudden shift of tone in the next line when Hamlet says, “What should such fellows as I do crawling between earth and heaven?” It falls into a tone of confusion and anger. Was his father’s spirit on his heart? Does he think that he will end up like his spirit? Stuck between earth and heaven? Hamlet ends their argument by directing Ophelia again to go to a nunnery to repent and reflect upon her sins. But, shouldn’t Hamlet be the one doing so instead of Ophelia?

In conclusion, Shakespeare uses his words to bring life into his text. Without his usage of certain words, his texts wouldn’t be valued. Throughout Hamlet, Shakespeare has a strong usage and play with his words. They can really set the tone for a text because they are the backbone.

Alisha's Circuit Sculpture & Artist Statement

Posted by Alisha Clark in Physics - Echols on Friday, November 16, 2012 at 12:55 pm
I picked the design of a child’s costume to light up, because I adore my younger siblings, cousins and family friends. I’m usually the one that watches over the babies and they love to dress up. This is my little cousin's costume of a lady bug. There are three lights on each wing that are centered in the hearts. Within each wing, there is a parallel circuit that runs off two AA batteries. On the sides, there is a green switch. When pressed down upon, it will light up. It is nice to look at and watch as it lights up.

Polling

Posted by Alisha Clark in American History - Jonas on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at 6:40 pm

I selected a young woman and a older man for my interviews.

Curtis Lincoln (Older Man) decided to talk as I wrote down everything.

Gabby Stevenson (Young Woman) was friendly enough to let me record her.

Declined by one older woman, but she left me with a joke:

Lady: Wanna' know know a joke?

Alisha (Me): Sure

Lady: Mitt Romney

Interview with Mr. Lincoln

Alisha (Me): What motivated you to come out and vote?

Mr. Lincoln: Because I want to see change done. I'm gonna' feel guilty if I wake up and Mitt is President. I ain't letting that happen. *chuckles*

Alisha (Me): What would you like to see changed in our political system?

Mr. Lincoln: Equality. Period.

Alisha (Me): Do you vote in every election? (How regularly do you vote?)

Mr. Lincoln: Yes, every year, since the age of 21 years old. I'm well over 40 years old now. The exact number is a secret!

Alisha (Me): Do you know why we vote on Tuesday?

Mr. Lincoln: No.

Alisha (Me): It has a lot to do about Horses, farming and God. It was all established in the 1800's. But, let's hurry and move on. It's cold.

Mr. Lincoln: Yes, thank you.

Alisha (Me): Where have you encountered the highest amount of ad campaigning? Radio, TV, Print, internet, other.

Mr. Lincoln: TV and the radio. To work is the radio, from work is the radio and then when I get home, there is the TV. OBAMA, ROMNEY, & OBAMA. *chuckles*

Alisha (Me): Are you always sure of who you are going to vote for when you walk into the booth, or are you still deliberating?

Mr. Lincoln: I always know who I'm voting for. I took the time out already to do all of my hard thinking. But, this election, I think it was a very clear choice.

Alisha (Me): What changes do you hope to see in Philadelphia as a result of this election?

Mr. Lincoln: I don't want to see any more violence. At least a decrease. I'm scared for my son, 14, to even go to school in the morning. Septa is crazy. So, I try to drive him when ever I can. But, gas prices...

Alisha (Me): What impact do you feel that your vote will have on the election?

Mr. Lincoln: Well how the government is today, probably none. But, I go out to vote and just pretend that my vote means the world.

Final Moments

‘The Five People You Meet in Heaven,’ by Mitch Albom

By: Alisha Clark

What is Heaven like? Do souls go up to a place called Heaven, where you become an angel and walk on clouds? From the author of the number one New York Times bestseller, Tuesdays with Morrie comes a long-awaited saga, a beautiful novel that explores a mystery only heaven can unfold.

Eddie, the main character, is a veteran who feels trapped in a meaningless life as a repairman of a seaside amusement park. Luckily, Eddie didn't always feel so trapped, he endured a very adventurous youth. Then changed into a spiteful old man. Eddie's days are filled with the same colorless routine and a side of regret.

It is the day of Eddie's 83rd birthday, and the book begins at the end, with Eddie dying. "The last days of Eddie's life was spent, like most of the others, at Ruby Pier, an amusement park by a great gray ocean. The park had the usual attractions, a boardwalk, a Ferris wheel, roller coasters, bumper cars, a taffy stand, and an arcade where you could shoot streams of water into a clown's mouth. It also had a big new ride called Freddy's Free Fall, and this would be where Eddie would be killed, in an accident that would make newspapers around the state." Eddie soon realizes heaven isn't a lush Garden of Eden, but a place where your life is explained back to you by five different people who you've encountered in the past.

Throughout the book, Eddie is desperately seeking redemption and questioning his final moments. Was it all worth it? Was the last breaths worth taking and can be considered heroic? Or was it shameful and a huge mistake? This book challenges you to think before you act because they may be your final breaths. Thinking after acting has been looked down upon, and is often what people do today.

Mitch Albom once again delivers another breathtaking original story that will enlighten your life in many ways. It will open your eyes into helping you see the brighter path in life. It changes your thoughts about the afterlife and the meaning of what life means on Earth. A story of love, hope, redemption, The Five People You Meet in Heaven is the bestselling hardcover first-time novel ever, Selling over 12 million copies in 38 territories and in 35 languages.

US Immigration Visual Project

Posted by Alisha Clark in American History - Jonas on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 1:49 pm
  • With your blogpost, include your reflection related to:

    • What surprised you most about this information?
That everything has a reason and you can tell according to historic events.
    •  What seemed quite obvious about explaining this data set?
The reasons why the number of immigrants increased and decreased. After a big historic event occurred, immigrants were either taken in or declined. An example, is when the Holocaust came to an end, the number of immigrants increased majorly. After wars, there was a decrease of acceptance.
    • Looking at the overall trend and incorporating what you know about the US presently, predict and defend the immigration trend for the next two decades.
I think in the next two decades, there will be a decrease in immigrants. I think there will be another war. But, a huge war that includes multiple countries, making it another World War. The US will be completely shut down for immigrants and make the process even harder. Plus, people's thoughts on America will change.
    • Describe how you made a decision on how to visually represent the information.
I thought of graphs and many pictures because visual is always the way to go on presentation with teenagers. Everyone likes pretty pictures. They will pay attention.
    • What parts of group work were challenging?
Nothing, because everyone stayed focus and communicated. We all communicated through emails and everyone stayed ontop of their assigned decades, which was excellent.
    • What would you do differently if you had this project to do over?
    • Nothing really because I love the outcome of our project. To me, we did great as a team. Everyone did their best and we all agreed. There wasn't fighting or lateness.

Why I Write...

Posted by Alisha Clark in English 2 - Pahomov on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 1:04 pm
I write because I feel beautiful. The words flow threw me and out the my fingers where they sprout on paper. The white paper being transformed by my inner thoughts. The white paper being tattooed in ink. My hand making perfect motions across the page as I finish my last sentence leaving a masterpiece behind. But, never forgotten. Writing makes it easier. Something so simple could be your best friend at times when your back is pinned against the wall. It keeps you close. While the light shines down over you, you can reach and actually taste you dreams. No judging is involved but just the time and love. I write because I'm free. Really free. It breaks down the walls of everywhere and lets you fly away like a bird . Nothing nor no one could stop you. You could do anything your heart desires even the most ridiculous things you may have in mind. But, that's why I write. Why do you?

Element Print Project 2011

Posted by Alisha Clark in Art - 9 - Hull on Friday, June 10, 2011 at 12:15 pm
My element is Neon. Neon is used for mainly advertising. Neon is also used in refrigerators because of the glow. After researching about Neon, I found out that Neon was discovered by Sir William Ramsay and Morris M. Travers after discovering of the Krypton. Neon was discovered through the study of liquefied. It is also known as the greek word for new. I quickly knew what I wanted to do. Since, the discovery came as a surprise, I made Sir William Ramsay with an amazed expression on his face. He has discovered Neon and it is new! I think I did good. It came out as I thought it would've. I would've made maybe an advertising sign.
