Element Print Project 2011

Posted by Jamie Murphy in Art - 9 - Hull on Friday, June 10, 2011 at 11:29 pm

- What is your element? - Tellurium
- What are some things your element are used for? - It's used for many things. Tellurium is the chemical that makes sensitive toothpaste, sensitive. It also is used in color tv's, and firework colors.
- How did you come up with the idea for your print? I looked up what it is used in and sensitive toothpaste came up. So I drew a toothpaste tube with the words sensitive.
-What steps did you take from your idea for the print to the final print?- I sketched three different ideas and redrew each one with detail. I decided on choosing the one I did because it was the most creative and not done before..
- What are your thoughts on the project? - I liked this project because it was creative. It was fun to cut the linoleum then paint it on with rollers since it was different from what we normally do.
- What would you do differently if you did this project again?- I would probably make the drawing more detailed.

My element was krypton.
It is highly conductive and it glows bright weight so its used in lights.
I saw on a Wikipedia page that it was named krypton because of the Greek word for the hiding one.
I made it on paper traced it on to tracing paper then onto the linoleum blocks then cut it and paint on to the paper.
I think i did good on it could have been better but I'm happy with it.
I would use different collars and make a different picture.

Element Print Project 2011

The element I did my print project is Sn, or Tin.  My element is used in can sodas, tin foils, tin cans and other canned goods are normally made of tin. Which makes it a very resourceful item. I came up with the idea for my tin because the tin man is very popular, he is also made of tin, so the element would be obvious.
I think that my my final product was well done and it looks neat enough to be hung. I used negative and positive space in a good way to make the print more prominent.  If I had to do this project again, I would have to change the colors to make the print prettier.

My elements name is Cerium. Cerium is used to make glass lamps and stained glass.
I was looking for something to make make a print. I was looking up what it was
named for and what the uses are and I found that it was used for stained glass so
I thought it would be cool to make it stained glass. I found and idea, them I sketched
it out on paper. I then sketched it out on trace paper and I copied it on to the linoleum
, then i carved it out with a handle. And I rolled the ink and pressed it down on the paper. After it dried
I did the same thing three more time. I think that it when well. The only thing that I would do differently is have had my trace in a safer place.

My element is Selenium. My element is used to make red glass that can be used for candleholders. It can also convert AC electricity to DC electricity. I thought of this print because of the candleholders. It seamed like a cool idea. I had to draw the print on a piece of paper. Then I traced the picture backwards onto tracing paper. Then I traced it from the tracing paper onto a linoleum block backwards again. Next I carved the positive space out and made prints of it. I then had to glue the prints onto black paper and take pictures. I think this was a fun project and it was easy. I would do this project the same and doing nothing differently.

My element is Neon. Neon is used for mainly advertising. Neon is also used in refrigerators because of the glow. After researching about Neon, I found out that Neon was discovered by Sir William Ramsay and Morris M. Travers after discovering of the Krypton. Neon was discovered through the study of liquefied. It is also known as the greek word for new. I quickly knew what I wanted to do. Since, the discovery came as a surprise, I made Sir William Ramsay with an amazed expression on his face. He has discovered Neon and it is new! I think I did good. It came out as I thought it would've. I would've made maybe an advertising sign.

Element Print Project 2011: Rosemary Flite

My element is sulfur.

It is used for gun powder, sulfur acid, and it is the color of one of Jupiter's moons.

I got the idea for my print because once I read that one of Jupiter's moons is the same color as sulfur I thought that it would be neat to make my print the shape of a moon.

I went from researching what sulfur is used for to making 3 sketchs, shading in the neditive space in each. Then I chose the sketch that I beilived was the best and put it onto tracing paper. Afterwards cut out the shape from the and then just put the ink on and printed it(:

I think that the project was fun to do and I learned a lot about both art and science.

If I did the project again I would have cut out my shape more evenly so that when I printed it there wouldn't be random marks.

Element Print Project 2011

What is your element?
My element is Zinc.

What are some things your element are used for?
It is used to prevent corrosion of metals like iron and steel and in the body it helps in the healing process of wounds.

How did you come up with the idea for your print?
This symbolizes Zincs natural resistance to corrosion. It is a person that kind of resembles a teenage Captain America.

What steps did you take from your idea for the print to the final print?
First I traced it onto some tracing paper
Then I put the traced image on the linoleum (traced side down)
I went over the lines to get the trace on the linoleum
Cut out the linoleum along the lines
Added paint to the linoleum
Put a paper on the the painted linoleum
pressed down to make sure the paint got on the paper
Took off the excess paper
Cut out an 8*8 square of construction paper
Glued print in the middle of the construction paper

What are your thoughts on the project?
It was fun I think I did pretty good.

What would you do differently if you did this project again?
Choose brighter colors

Negative Space

Posted by Byshera Moore-Williams in Art - 9 - Hull on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 1:07 pm

Negative space is the background and it is the area the is be hide the object and in the space between. The negative space in the picture is the background and the area between the finger. And with the owl is on the left side the brown and on the right the pink. So that you know where thing are in the front and the back. I think that it dose enhance the drawing because then you can layer and know where things fall.

A.  The negative space is the area outside the outline of the drawing. So it's everything that you don't draw or color in
B.  Cut out drawing- i cut out every piece of the stencil then organized the negative pieces  (outer) on one side and the other on the opposite side
Stool drawing-  I drew the outline of the stool then focused on the background of the stool and everything around it.
C. It helps an artist see you can see everything around it in its environment
D. Yes it shows more detail (:
