Tech- One slide remix

As I remodeled my slide, I wanted to focus on one thing and one thing only and that was my love for sports. In my research i realized there is always the focal point of each slide and that the main point should be clear and isolated from the rest but should still flow with the rest of the slide. Therefor, i wanted the bat to be the main focus, it includes colors that are eye popping and attract the eye. I chose to put a quote to fill in space but not one that was too long. I chose one that was equal in the length of line so it wa easy and appealing on the eyes.

From the critics in my slide I learned that i should have a good color scheme and a solid alignment. i was told to not over crowd and just keep it simple and with a lot of open space. I made a lot of drastic changes because i felt that in comparison to everyone else’s is was overcrowded and i felt that it should’ve been way more simple and focused on one thing which was my love for sports for softball. I went back to my research and it helped me make a better slide because it gave me clear examples, it showed me that i should’ve simplified my slide and make it aligned and overall appealing to the eye.

I used the articles that were found on the assignment link on canvas and i also googled a lot of ikea examples. I think ikea slides are the best to follow because they show you what you need to see without overwhelming you. They keep it short and simple and get to the point. They use up all the space yet don’t overcrowd and everything flows off nicely. I followed their models to create my slide. I chose the the bat to fill up the most space and the quote to give off the information needed.

My New Slide

One Slide (3)
When I first made my slide, I thought it was perfect and it didn't need changing. But, when I presented in front of my class, I saw that there were actually flaws. The critique taught me a lot of things. The most important thing I learned was that no matter how great you thought your slide was, it had flaws. When first making my slide, I didn't think much about the colors that went into it. But, when presenting, I noticed flaws with the colors I used. One person told me I should use the color wheel to help with that issue. Even though it seems obvious, I never thought of color when making my slide. I also learned a lot about fonts. Before, I didn't know what a sans or serif was, now I know it helped a lot when making my slide.
The most important change I made was to delete the rose. I only needed one flower and I thought the sunflower was better for my slide. I also made the sunflower a lot bigger and made it the center of attention. I spaced my sentence around the flower to give the illusion of the two combing. Also, I made the most important words in my sentence a script font and put it in a different color than the rest of the text. I chose purple because it was across the color wheel from yellow, which is the color of the sunflower, so it matched well. I also made my name much smaller and in a more basic font. I wrapped my name around the stem of the flower so people know it was mine, but it isn't the center of attention. I made a lot of changes to my slide but they all were useful.
The research I did helped a lot when changing my slide. Most of the research I read said that simplicity was key and I didn't follow that advice in my original slide. I think my slide is much simpler and therefore, more eye catching. The golden rule is; less is more.  I also read a lot about color. If you have too much color, it can be too busy, so I only put a few colors in my slide. But, I think the most important thing I read about is making the slide not boring. The best way to do this is not have everything be straight. It can be boring to look at if you do this. I tried to make my text have interesting spacing so it wouldn't be boring. All of my research was very helpful when making my new slide.
Some sources I used were Presentation Zen, zachholman.com, and oberlin.edu. My dad also helped me create this slide because he knows a lot about design.

A little bit about myself

Posted by Rafe Listokin in Technology - Freshman · Hull · d1 Band on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at 11:00 am

Here is my slide. As you can see there is text for all of you to read, and its a little bit about myself one of my hobby's is that i like being creative and  like building these small model kits right here. one of my favorite foods is sushi, and I also love baseball. I put in a blue background because I love the color blue and what it represents it symbolizes faith trust and wisdom and loyalty. What I could do better is that i could find more ways to represent the definition of me because I feel that there is more of my likings and favorites than my own emotion.

My Values in Life- Aigner Turner

Posted by Aigner Turner in Technology - Freshman · Hull · d1 Band on Monday, November 27, 2017 at 5:56 pm

The way I made my slide is to do a back round with a basic color, which is black. Instead of using words I took it in consideration to use pictures so when I present, I wouldn't be reading off the board and explain why it truly values me as me. The pictures might look simple but each one of them tells a story to me (even if the picture looks confusing). The design expresses how stuff in my life is slanted and not perfect.

Untitled presentation (2)

Hello Class

Welcome to my All about me Slide

My goal here was to make this a mixture of my personal taste and commonly used design techniques.

The first thing I thought of when I was begining my slide was that I wanted to make my backround the complex aspect of my slide

The next thing I thought was really interesting was the “the thirds rule”

For people who aren’t familiar with this term. The thirds rule

and used that rule when I was choosing the background.

I used the text to be the simple aspect and the background to be my colorful aspect

And yeah

ALL ABOUT KOFI

Posted by Kofi Kohl in Technology - Freshman · Hull · d1 Band on Monday, November 27, 2017 at 2:48 pm

In my slide, I initially knew I wanted to use red and yellow, because they're bright colors that immediately catch the eye. However they are both warm colors so I used a cool red, which creates more contrast. I used the rockets and the griffin because they are the mascots of my current and previous schools. I did not want to add other images because it would draw away focus from the title. I made the images have shadows so that they'd literally pop out of the page. ~Kofi Kohl

ALL ABOUT BRIELLE THOMPSON

Posted by Brielle Thompson in Technology - Freshman · Hull · d1 Band on Monday, November 27, 2017 at 2:14 pm

I know that colors gets people attention but I couldn't really make my background a color because the pictures wouldn't look right. Also, I know if the pictures are big it would be hard for the audience not to attract to my slide. I chose these pictures because they are pictures that will literally explain me. My  pictures are slanted because if I was to just put them straight it would be a little cramped up and it gives it style.

All About Saniyyah Ray

Posted by Saniyyah Ray in Technology - Freshman · Hull · d1 Band on Monday, November 27, 2017 at 2:04 pm

In my 1 slide I used a variety of colors to draw the audience attention. I made my letters big so that they stand out. I tried not to cramp my 1 slide up so I only put 4 pictures in my slide to tell about myself. Of course I wanted to add many more pictures but I did not want my classmates eyes to roll all over the place. I decided to use bright colors for my background because bright colors tend to make people happy. Also these four pictures strongly describe who I am and what I like.

The Story Behind James Kry

Posted by James Kry in Technology - Freshman · Hull · d1 Band on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 3:41 pm

I made my slide with varieties of pictures because not all, but each of them tells a story. What had influence my decision making is that when I did some research on how to make a 1 slide mean something meaningful and I ran into this image with all of these pictures about her lost dog and she had a story for her dog’s death. Mines is about my dad’s death, also, always think on the positive things.

Hillary's slide

Posted by Hillary Hernandez in Technology - Freshman · Hull · d1 Band on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 11:17 am

This presentation was very interesting to me, but at the same time very confusing for the fact being that I didn't know if I wanted to do words or pictures. Words had caught my attention at first seeing how you could do different hue's and different sizes and fonts. Pictures also had caught my attention, saying how they could represent multiple things. For my slide I decided to do one quote that spoke to me and different pictures that spoke to me or had a sentimental value to me. All thease pictures are with people I adore and that have a special place in my heart and I feel like that describes me, because I can be a very caring and friendly person. I hope my slide can come through as that
