My project is a slideshow explaining how to use the weightlifting equipment in Ben Franklin’s weight room. The presentation gives a step by step guide on how to use the equipment, common mistakes to avoid, and a short summary of the history of each workout. The goal is to help people who might be interested in joining the team learn early how to properly use the equipment.

For my capstone, I wanted to figure out a way to incorporate student and teacher feedback into the systems we use for the internship search process at SLA. Throughout my time here, I’ve heard a lot of opinions about ImBlaze and experienced difficulty navigating it myself. While the idea for my capstone underwent many revisions based on feedback from teachers and mentors, the final product is a guidebook that anyone at SLA can access. This guidebook explains how to use the different features of ImBlaze and includes information on how to send an email to an organization or how to prepare for an interview. I worked with Johanna Weber on this project because we were trying to address the same issue; her individual project was centered around strengthening ImBlaze by giving it more data about different ILPs.

Through an extensive process of gathering feedback from students and teachers, conducting interviews, writing and rewriting surveys, and reading a ton about ImBlaze and the developers, we were able to submit this two-part project that incorporates the SLA core values and responds to the problems we had been seeing. Our final product is something that I’m extremely proud of, and it has taught me so much about time management and working with a team.

Hello my name is Ignacio. For my capstone project, I created a book site called “Eat Real”. This website was designed to target 9th and 10th graders at SLA to make healthier choices on a student budget. This project originated from a simple observation that most students at SLA were making food choices everyday without actually understanding nutrition. I wanted to change that by creating something that was useful for students. This included the basics of nutrition, how to read food labels, recipes of my own, and tips and tricks to start to become more healthier. During the process I researched to understand real life barriers like cost, time, and food access which ultimately was different for many students. What I learned throughout the process was how to take research and turn it into something accessible for students. Overall this capstone helped me become more knowledgeable in areas I wasn’t and I was able to provide many students the right information helping them make better food choices.

My senior capstone project focused on exploring long-standing cultural restaurants throughout Philadelphia and highlighting the stories behind them. For this project, I visited restaurants from different cultural backgrounds and neighborhoods, including Jamaican, Italian, and Mexican cuisine. Some of the restaurants I researched and reviewed included Little Delicious in Southwest Philadelphia, Ralph’s Italian restaurant in South Philadelphia, and Tequila’s in Rittenhouse Square. I created both a physical and a digital website that allows people to learn about these restaurants, write reviews, view photos, and access transportation directions through Google Maps links. I chose this project because I wanted to highlight small businesses that often tell important stories about culture, family, and community connection.

The pamphlets will be printed for viewing for my presentation, and will be available in the office for any student to come and take!

Hii, my name is Angelina. My capstone project is a series of podcasting interviews mainly with attending students and some teachers. I wanted this series to be used to understand the depth of a Project based school. SLA has two exceptionally strong CTE programs, along with many clubs, sports and different activities within the school. I wanted opportunities to be highlighted so a different sense of the school and student input would be recognized. This High School is very student centered & driven, so to play on that theme, the questioning and research of high school students is essential. In my project the conversations are raw and honest, unfiltered, and some more edited than others, but all honestly reflecting SLA in the midst of wide experiences. My podcasting project is designed to assist prospective 8th grade students + families understand how project based learning is implemented in the curriculum and classroom.

For my Capstone project for the 2025-2026 senior year, I decided to create a veterinary based class for freshman mini-courses for those who were interested in learning more about what to expect in the veterinary field and some of the daily jobs that those in the field of veterinary have to do every day. I decided to base my project off this field because it is the field I will be studying next year in college and I wanted to not only take the time to teach freshman about the different parts of the medicine field since we don’t have any classes in our schools based off of that, but also so I can prepare myself for the different types of techniques and knowledge that I will be studying everyday for the next three years of vet nursing school. Some examples of lesson plans I had made for this class include roleplaying what healthy visit check-ins are for pets and their owners, learning how to wrap surgery tools a certain way so they don’t become contained, how to do CPR on a dog, and even having conversations with my mentor (a veterinarian) and getting her to come in with her pet dog so she could teach my students about different tools used during visits and how to properly handle a dog! I have learned so much throughout this process of my project with my students and I just hope they had as much fun as me!

Here is where I did a lot of my planning for my lesson plans, working on and off this document for the last 6 months to make sure I had exact plans for each weeks and adding more ideas if I wanted to add something into the lesson plans!

Here is a picture of my student using one of the tools Dr. K brought in to check the eyes of the dog, learning what to see in a dog’s eye to make sure their vision is still working the way it should be!

Finally, here is the result of my surgery asking my students to reflect on their time in my mini-course and giving me some feedback. As we can see here, of course I could have done better but overall very good results from my students!!
