Abstract

Throughout the year many students need school supplies, there are many times in school where the person does not have a proper writing utensil or something to write on. With this project I was able to help students come prepared for the next class. I thought to myself, well why stop there. So I began fundraising to help finish off the payments of Liverpool. Liverpool was an wonderful experience for  a lot of people, I am glad to now be a part of it by putting money towards. After making prices and having a set profit, I began selling the items that were most used throughout our school.

"Staples." Staples. Staples, ic. Web. 31 Jan 2014. <http://www.staples.com>.

Staples offer school supplies that are discounted. These supplies could be used to at low prices. There are a variety of different items and materials that students use to help them achieve in school. The more supplies that are discounted, the more supplies are able to be bought at once. Staples normally sell items more than one at a time because multiple items are on sale.

Effective Fundraising for nonprofits

Victoria Yarbrough's Capstone

Abstract

For my capstone, a fellow classmate and I decided to do a dance club for the school. At first we were doing it for SLA Center City and then decided that it would be nice to also extend the club to SLAB. First we decided what songs we was going to dance to and then came up with some dance moves. We were going to have our club as an after school activity every Wednesday at Beeber but at the end, it turned out to be one of their mini-courses for the 4th quarter. So then we came up with a lesson plan on what we was going to do with the students and what we wanted them to get out of it. We decided that we were going to teach them a couple of dances and then as their final project, have them come up with a dance on their own. During the process I’ve learned that patience is really important to have because we had to wait until the students and teachers cooperated with us. And that leadership skills were needed for this club because we were working with ninth graders who think they know everything.

Hip Hop Choreography

Jam, Mega. “'23' ft Miley Cyrus choreography by Jasmine Meakin (Mega Jam).” Online video clip. Youtube. Youtube, 1 Dec. 2013. Web. 28 Jan. 2014. <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtU13wWKBUU>

This youtube video is a dance video of one of the people one of us is subscribe to on youtube. She is a dance instructor and she puts all of the rehearsals she does onto her youtube page along with the tutorials of her dances. We selected this video because it will help come up with some dance moves we can do. It helps to figure out what music is best to dance to. Viewing this video will allow us to see how other people dance and what they think are good dance moves.

“Dance Team- Dance Technique.” Varsity. Varsity Brands, n.d. Web. 28 Jan. 2014. <http://www.varsity.com/event/1170/dance_technique>

This website gives us information about the techniques of dancing, it gives information about different turns foot alignment and tips in improving your dances. This information will allow us to dance the correct way with the right alignment and body position. Knowing this information before we actually start dancing will save many injuries to us and the people who are dancing with us. We could use this information on our website because if people want to copy any of our dances, they first have to know the techniques we used.

Williams, Brenda. “Where Did Dance Come From.” ezine articles. Sparknet, 2014. Web. 28 Jan 2014. <http://ezinearticles.com/?Where-Did-Dancing-Come-From?&id=1144971>

This article by Brenda Williams is about dance and where it comes from. She goes to say that no one actually knows how it originated but it’s an important part in ceremonies, rituals, and celebrations. While reading this article I learned that dancing was first seen in Egyptian times, in their wall paintings. This article doesn’t help with how we dance but it does help us to know where it come from. Also it will help us with our website because “knowing” where dance come from can be the introduction to our website.

AdrianVanOyen. “50 Epic Dance Moves.” Online video clip. Youtube. Youtube, 25 Nov. 2012. Web. 28 Jan. 2014. < http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dodGzOjBOHA>

We chose this video because it showed us what not to do as a dance. This is kind of important when it comes to dancing because you want to make sure that you don’t look crazy when you want people to take you as a serious dancer. So doing doing some of these dances in public will not accomplish this. This allows us to get away from the “bad” dancing and towards the better dancing.

This source is especially useful because it delves into more than just hip hop dancing. It is important to look at where dances came from and most hip hop dances have African roots. With that being said we will be looking at the root of dancing so we can fully understand modern dancing. If you know where your stuff comes from it is easier to understand and perform the modern stuff.

Having a knowledge of dances from different cultures only enhances our techniques. It gives it a flare and steps outside the box of just hip hop. It’s important to not only understand the dancing you like to do. You have to know about multiple dances because each dance style is influenced by another so it’s best to know multiple to better understand what you’re doing.

Abstract: For my project I wrote a book. With the world I created in the book I created a board game based around the this world. I asked some of my classmates to act as beta testers for my game. I learned quite a bit from the process of creating two products. One being if you are gonna create a game you should make sure the story is easy to understand. The other thing I learned is to manage time better, Because you never know when you will lose a good head of steam when writing. Something I would tell someone who is trying to understand my project is. When working with other people set a date and stick to it.

"How to speak like a Dwarf ?." The Three Hammers. N.p., n.d. Web. 30 Jan. 2014. <http://forums.threehammers.org/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=1618>.

*I used this source to enhance my writing for dwarf characters so I could get a real feel for the way they would speak to other people, and I felt this source really empowered my ability when writing.

*This source did have a sort of drawback because I couldn’t see any examples of writing that used this type of writing. Where it was helpful it didn’t and could have had better information about it.

*But this source did help me with getting an understanding of dwarfish culture and language. Where they are a and what type of land they would normally live in. So I could be very accurate with my description.

"Wikia." WoWWiki. N.p., n.d. Web. 30 Jan. 2014. <http://www.wowwiki.com/Experience_point‎>.

*This web site helped me see how another game world of warcraft, worked out an experience system with a mathematical equation I used a similar one to create my own guide with a complete workout through 100 levels for the game I am working on creating, With the level guide I need to make it so it was fair and balanced so this webpage helped me a lot on this. It had a lot of questions about levels their levels and how they balanced it with different checks. But even with this source I will still need to test the level system.

www.wizards.com/Dnd/‎

* This website tells me about the rules that made up dungeons and dragons so I can use this as a guide to make my own game considering it has withstood the test of time and no other tabletop rpg game has lasted as long as it with it fan base. It gives me a good understanding of how they made their game and other hints and tips. That will help me get ahead and work towards making a good working game. They also have an idea of how to create items and special power ups.

us.battle.net/wow/‎

*World of Warcraft has given me a great inspirational source, for my writing they have created many books that Describe a fictional world also they have created many tabletop games, Where this source has a drawback they have worked on this for a very long time so it is harder to follow the story because of how much they have developed it and because so many things happen at the same time.

Hallford, Neal, and Jana Hallford. Swords & Circuitry : A Designer's Guide To Computer Role Playing Games. Roseville, CA: Prima Tech, 2001.eBook Collection (EBSCOhost). Web. 29 Jan. 2014.

*This book is explaining that with the game he created people really like the fact that the world was so full, because they could do a lot of side missions and quests. So it tells me that if you want a successful game that last a really long time you need to give the player base a lot of activities in the game/ mini games or assignments so they can keep with the flow of the game and get to point B from point A.

Mayer, Bob. The Fiction Writer's Toolkit : A Guide To Writing Novels And Getting Published. [S.l.]: E-reads, 1999. eBook Collection (EBSCOhost). Web. 29 Jan. 2014.

*This book has some good information about starting out writing books because they say in it don’t mess around with writing something you feel about with the fictional book I am writing because I really want to do this then I souldn’t waste my time with short stories I should work on the main story of it. This book does leave a lot of open ended questions and they don’t really lead you anywhere but they do explain somethings.

McAninch, Edward. Personal interview, November 13th 2013

*My brother gave me key points that I used use in written combat he also helped me by writing for one of my characters to in a combat event so that I could get to making a better scene, He also helped me by editing some of my work and advised me about how to make a good dramatic final part of the event. He also gave me a lot of constructive criticism so I could use it to grow and make better plot lines later on in the book. Lastly he has given me pointers about how to change some of the parts of my story so it doesn’t become a repetitive motion.

http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-create-a-DD-style-tabletop-game/step1/Step-One-Boring-but-important/

*This web site has a guide for creating a game, I don’t like to read this type of website because I like to use my own imagination and have a spark of creativity this tells you a nice easy way to create your own game for people who need the extra help. I only looked at this to get an overall understanding of how to create a game the creator tells you the way but I still like to make everything with my own understanding because They may have did it one way and you could do it your own way to truly make it your game.

http://www.theguardian.com/books/2010/feb/20/ten-rules-for-writing-fiction-part-one

*This artical had good points about how to write a fictional novel and good ideas that I can use when I go back to look over my book and make edits to it. Also It had many good book quotes to emphasize its points. I feel I got a lot of good ideas and tools from this to edit my book, also I can look over what the other authors do to see how they follow the rules they created. So that I can produce the best book I possibly can.

Herald, Diana Tixier. Genreflecting : A Guide To Reading Interests In Genre Fiction. Englewood, Colo: Libraries Umlimited, 2000. eBook Collection (EBSCOhost). Web. 30 Jan. 2014.

This source did not really help me much because It was a guide about different genre’s of fiction instead of a focused source but it still gave me a good bouncing point to look into fiction as a whole instead of just books that are fiction so I used it still to start forming ideas about the genre of my book which lead to my game because I was still unsure about sci-fi or mythical fiction so it helped me pick one of the options.

Abstract

For my capstone I explored the medium of digital video production as an expression of political feelings. In this piece I went through all the processes of video production. Pre-production ( script writing, storyboarding, scouting, b-film, recruiting actors), Production ( filming), and Post-production ( editing and finalizing). In this process I challenged myself to sticking to schedule, learning how to use new editing software "Adobe Premiere", and collaborating with others. While at times there was many failures, such as obstacles of delay due to long winters, equipment availability, and a freelance production crew with fluctuating schedules I managed to learn a lot about the differences between guerilla style filming and hollywood level production.

Abstract:

Making a Japanese comic was pretty daring on my part. I enjoy drawing so I thought it would be a piece of cake to make a Manga for my Capstone. Drawing a chapter for my Manga was one of the most stressful things to do during my Senior Year but, I got it done. For professional Mangakas (Japanese comic artist), they barely make their deadline on a good day only focusing on drawing. Trying to manage good grades, a healthy school life, hanging out with friends, and personal time all while working on a manga was crazy! Though if I could, I would do it again. ヾ(。◕ฺ∀◕ฺ)ノ

Carter, Charles, ElizabethD, and Thomscher. "How to Draw a Gun." WikiHow. Mediawiki, n.d. Web. 30 Jan. 2014. <http://www.wikihow.com/Draw-a-Gun>.

So I know for sure wiki’s aren’t the most reliable but, this helped me grasp a better understanding of guns. I’m drawing weapons in my manga and I’m not the best with guns at all. The surface is always confusing for me to really understand and I always end up faking most of it. I want to know how to draw it without the difficulties of referring back to something. It’s not the most helpful but it gave me a step by step which will help a lot in the long run. Wiki isn’t all that bad for drawing things for the most part.

Crilley, Mark. "Mark Crilley How To Draw Videos." YouTube. YouTube, 04 Nov. 2006. Web. 30 Jan. 2014. <https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLCD2CF65888663986>.

MARK CRILLEY IS A GOD! He’s the one of the most reliable sources I have on here! I love Mark Crilley. He has published how to books as well as his own manga series out. His videos teaches me a lot! I’ve learned so much from him and just sitting down and watching them. His videos will help with whatever else I need help with in getting my manga on the road to success. He does step by step and he also does time lapses so if I don’t need the step by step I can just watch him draw it in his own way and try to adapt it to mine. >U<! HE’S AMAZING!

"Cheap Waistcoat." S, Cute Waistcoats For Women With Wholesale Prices Sale. Sammydress, n.d. Web. 30 Jan. 2014. <http://www.sammydress.com/Wholesale-Waistcoat-c-181.html>.

Thought this site seem a bit redundant to the last one it’s not. What the other one lack is what this website made up for. The last website was only for men, while this site is only for women. I can focus on the smaller things within women clothing with this site just as I could with the other. Though I am better drawing female clothing, I still have room for improvement. This will help me map out and pick out the clothing for my female characters in my manga and it will help me further evolve as a mangaka.

Hart, Christopher. “Manga for the Beginner: Shoujo.” New York: Watson-Guptill, 2010. Print.

This book has taught me some secret short cuts for making manga drawings look amazing. Manga for the Beginner is amazingly reliable and there are 2 different volumes of Manga for the Beginner. This will help me draw in a different style than what I normally draw in with both my female and male characters and I’m pretty excited for it. This teaches me everything I actually needed to know except for the weapon part. To me this book lacks nothing extreme and if I needed to use it again somewhere in the future, I would definitely either check this book out again, or buy it.

"Hot Topic | ENTIRE SITE 25% OFF." Hot Topic | ENTIRE SITE 25% OFF. HOTTOPIC, n.d. Web. 29 Jan. 2014. <http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/Homepage.jsp>.

Hot topic is reliable for today’s fashion. A lot of people see Hot topic as an emo/scene store but it has a large selection of EVERYTHING. It aims towards pre-teens, teens, and adults. I think this will help me with poses as well as the clothing for both male and female. This site can also help map out hairstyles and other things. Hot topic is more americanized than the other two websites I was previously on. Hopefully I use this site as much as I will the others. What this website lacks is the actual manga stuff, but again it’s the little things that count.

"How to Draw Clothes (Part 3)." How to Draw Clothes (Part 3) | Welcome to How to Draw Manga — Manga University. Manga University, n.d. Web. 30 Jan. 2014. <http://www.howtodrawmanga.com/pages/tutorial_clothes003>.

Since I had the real life clothing one, I had to find one specifically on manga style clothing. This may seem or look redundant, but to me it’s important. I need to know different ways on how to make it look real but not real at the same time. I want my ruffles, and my creases to be on the same level as a pro’s and by doing so I need different alternatives of how clothing looks in real life compared to with manga. This site is reliable to me and I know it will help me grow as the month past.

“How to Draw Weapons.” Manga Tutorials - How to Draw Weapons: Swords, Knives, Staffs, and More. Manga Tutorials, n.d. Web. 30 Jan. 2014. <http://www.mangatutorials.com/tut/weapons1.php>.

With this website I wanted to know the feel of the blade in a japanese cartoon style. It’s not that swords and such are hard to do, it’s just that it’s easy to make the sword or blade look unrealistic. The point is to make it look similarly close to “real” while keeping it in it’s traditional japanese style. I think this will help me work on my shading and with my manga hands. This website has helped me before in the past when I was still a beginner with manga and art altogether. So, now it should be of more help than it was before.

"Learn How to Draw Guns." How to Draw Guns, Step by Step, Weapons, with Our FREE Online Drawing Tutorials! Dragoart.com, n.d. Web. 30 Jan. 2014. <http://www.dragoart.com/firearms-c362-1.htm>.

Dragoart does not look reliable at all. The whole website is cheesy and it’s mega flashy but it has multiple different takes on guns which is better than wiki’s. This site also shows a step by step for me and it has more offers. Plus, it doesn’t just have how-to’s on guns, it also teaches different perspectives of manga and drawing it. Though I wish it were more authentic, I’ll have to work with it. It is really hard finding legit manga things online but this site isn’t the worst I’ve seen. Hopefully this will turn out to be a good choice for me.

"The Complete Idiot’s Guides." The Complete Idiot’s Guides. Penguin and Random House, 1 July 2013. Web. 30 Jan. 2014. <http://idiotsguides.com/static/quickguides/artphotography/how-to-draw-manga-basic-male-body-shapes.html>.

Finding reliable drawing manga how-to’s are really difficult. It’s almost impossible to find an .org for drawing of anything. So when looking for a good site I have to look through it carefully to make sure it will be of some benefit to and for me. This website is actually pretty helpful with the body structures of both male and female. Not only does it have that but it also offers some other things I didn’t take into account. Though it is a .com, it has been proven to be of great help for me. I know I will not regret using this site.

"Zeesebon." Men. YesStyle.com, n.d. Web. 30 Jan. 2014. <http://www.yesstyle.com/en/list.html/bcc.11276_bpt.299_bid.313756>.

This site is just clothing site. I needed a real clothing site to base off my guy characters because I’m not great with their clothing. It seems unreliable and it looks like it wouldn’t help but it does. I have a wide variety of male clothing and though it’s not already in manga form, I can adapt it to my own liking. This site also helps me compare my manga style male structure to a real male structure. I know it’ll help me for sure because I always need to improve on something. This site is just a small piece to a bigger puzzle.
