Art Slideshow

Posted by Fatu Castillo in Advanced Art · Hull · x1 Band on Friday, February 3, 2017 at 8:09 pm

During the Second Quarter of Advanced Art, I made about thirty-five pieces of work collectively for six assignments. There are all featured here in the slideshow, from least recent to most recent.
First, I drew ten blind contour drawings for various things, including my face and my hands. I didn't choose any of the items for any particular reason, just things that very conveniently around. I wasn't expected for anything good to come out of my work but I was pleasantly surprised when I ended up liking the water bottle.
Second, I colored the same ten drawings mentioned above in various styles. Personally, I believe adding color made the drawing my sensible. I tend to lean towards drawing in pastels because I like the way light colors blend. It was interesting to see how coloring abstract drawings with abstract colors made them more appealing. My favorite one among them was the bright pink colored hand.
Third, I made five of my own drawings using pencils and colored them using oil pastels. It didn't take to an overall theme but instead drew what came to mind, my drawings tended to involve floral imagery and curls. Working with oil pastels was difficult to me, since I kept reducing them to crayons and wasn't sure how to blend colors. The drawing I prefer of any one them is the purple flower.
Fourth, I recreated two pieces of art from Keith Haring. To be frank, I choose to recreate his works on the basis of how stylized he is. I didn't have faith in my abilities if I were to recreate an art piece from someone who I actually admired. Still, it was fun drawing in his styles. I used oil pastels to color them in, which was a horrible idea since everything started to smudge.
Fifth, I illustrated two songs, Riptide by Vance Joy and Fresh Static Snow by Porter Robinson. Listening to Riptide, I always got the sense of isolation from Vance Joy so I drew a grey, dull city. But towards the end of the song, I always felt like he was reaching out to someone he loved, so I added streaks of colors and bright windows to give it warmth. Porter Robinson always writes song that happens in space, hence the drawing. I had fun using watercolors, I like how cosmic they can look.
Sixth, I took six for the photo editing assignment and there's not much else to say about it. It was difficult finding enough subjects to take photos of but I managed just fine. The hardest part of the assignment was getting the camera to focus on the closest thing relative to the screen. It was easy editing them and restoring proper color.

Q2 Artist's Statement and Slideshow

For the Second Quarter, I have made 6 different types of artworks. They were the blind contour drawings, add color to the contour line drawings, choosing your own painting, recreate a piece of art, illustration from a piece of writing, and photo editing. For the first assignment, I decided to draw the cartoon characters that I saw on the ceiling and the objects that were next to me. It was really hard to draw the characters and making it precise without looking at the character. For the second assignment, it was really easy to color the drawings I did for the first week without thinking. For the third assignment, I decided I wanted to make a Dreamcatcher. I use blue and purple because it is a cool tone color and that it is catching all of the bad energy. For the fourth assignment, I wanted to draw my favorite South Korean singer, so I recreated a drawing of him from Google. For the fifth assignment, I decided to Illustrate the song from Moana. I wanted to make the character scared of finding her own path. I use color pencils to add texture and color. For the last assignment, it was really funs getting to edit the photos and learning how to use the app. I got to edit the photo I took from San Fransico and the photo of me and my friend, Ashley.

Artist's Statement- Majarucon

This Quarter 2, I did the contour drawings first by taking blank pieces of paper and a charcoal pencil to draw the object that I am trying to draw without looking at the paper. After doing 10 drawings, I colored all of them in and enhanced the drawings through the colored pencils. The second project was to choose our own painting and medium on a piece of paper. I chose to do an oil pastel artwork of a dark ombre sky in a desert or a dull hill. The third project was to recreate a piece of art and I chose to do "The Son of Man" by Rene Magritte in 1964. The fourth project was to illustrate something from a piece of writing which I chose to do two short poems. One called "A Girl" by Ezra Pound and "A Birthday Poem" by Ted Baker. Lastly, I had to take pictures and edit them using pixlr which I did. So, I took four pictures and edited each of them using pixlr on my computer.

For my second quarter, I created a lot of diverse art. I started off with using pastels for my first assignment. It was tough for me because I never used pastels. For my second assignment, I decided to try shading in faces. I try to study the human bone structure when making this piece. For the third assignment, I used art apps to make my sketches come alive. I recreated my inspirations, Jhené, SZA, and FKA twigs. For my last assignment, I went around the city to take pictures that had depth in field. This was the most fun assignment because I got to photoshop later on.

Drawing is not really my strongest point so in some of my pieces you might have to laugh but it's okay I've tried my best. Creating these pieces were pretty interesting and fun and some pictures from google did inspire some of my paintings which were cool to re-create. My favorite assignment this quarter was the photo editing because taking photos and editing them are things that I like to do and editing pictures to make the main features come out is relaxing.

Artist statement Quarter 2

This quarter i experienced new types of art. Like the first assignment we did was a blind contour drawing. That was a good warm up. I feel like my pictures improved each time I drew one. Then we moved onto paintings, which I like doing. My last water color painting with the girls hair blowing was beautiful and one of my best pieces ever. I am very proud of it. I can see the improvement in my art every week. I really enjoyed taking my time to draw and paint my pieces. Some of the art work I made are some of my best. I hope to see my art work grow in the third quarter. Based off the first and second quarter my art work is improving.

Q2 Final Artist Project

This marking period I created a lot of good artwork. I was on task every class making sure I had a goal to accomplish before the end of class weather it was a big or small goal. I have made contour drawings, drawings of my own, a recreation of a artwork and I editing a a couple of my photos.I am most proud of my recreation, because  I believe I worked really hard on that and made sure it was as close as a replica it could be.

Ben Fink-Second Artist's Statement

The purpose of this slideshow is to showcase all of the art projects I completed for the second quarter. One of the most important lessons I learned from this quarter was the importance of planning assignment periods. I learned that if you don't plan ahead and get started on long-term assignments as soon as possible, then you're gonna be stuck trying to create an entire project in one art period, which only lasts about an hour. That's why I usually tried to manage my time so that I took two or three art periods to complete it. One thing I really enjoyed about this quarter was the creative freedom Ms. Hull gave us when she posted these assignments. Although the guidelines for each assignment were pretty strict, she was kinda laid-back in terms of what we could and couldn't draw/paint..

Q1 Artist Slideshow

I am most proud of my ceiling tile by far. Ever since freshman year I never thought I would be able to create a ceiling tile yet I have finally achieved. I decided to add to the collection of superhero tiles and add the flash since in my opinion he is a very underrated superhero. I wanted to go for his classic design, but make the red a deep shade since the shade of red changes depending on the designer.

For my self-portrait, I tried to free-hand draw myself at first but that turned out to be terrible, since I am not very good at that type of drawing so I decided to trace a picture of myself on the white board, I chose to attempt to shade in the parts of my face that were covered by shadows in my picture so I could make almost an exact replica.

Jordan Grayes Artwork

Posted by Jordan Grayes in Advanced Art · Hull · x1 Band on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 1:05 am

My first assignment in this classroom was the tile painting. The inspiration behind my idea was the fact I had recently watched some Brandon Knight highlights, a player for the Phoenix Suns. After that I decided that the Suns logo would be the best possible way for me to have fun with the project. Also, the colors really pop in there logo and that influenced my decision heavily. My final product is located on slide #2. The final assignment was the self portrait. In the self portrait I decided to trace an image of myself that was from a photo-shoot I was a part of. The reason I chose that specific image was because it gave me a nice facial expression and would be more fun to capture details such as, the Tommy Hilfiger logo on my shirt and the straps from my book bag. something I would want to improve on in my artistry work is adding more to them. I only meet the minimum requirement and I should start to go above and beyond the standards set.
