Blooming into an artist

Art thingy 1
Art thingy 1
During the process of drawing the clear object i had obstacles. Patience is a virtue and a virtue I don't posses much of. While drawing this I found myself doing a lot of erasing which lead to impatience and anger. When I cant accomplish something right away this happens. I also came to realize that once I sit down and block everyone out and focus on what im doing how im going to do it I can accomplish a lot, and surprise myself.

This drawing made me realize a lot about myself as a new born artist. I found myself actually enjoying my mistakes because out of that came a lesson learned to not repeat it the next time or maybe go about it a different way. In the end im really please with my drawing and want to thank Ms.Hull for all the patience she had and wise words as well.

Glass and Figure Drawing _ Hunt

Posted by Katherine Hunt in Advanced Art - Hull on Friday, November 4, 2011 at 12:21 am

The first assignment that Ms. Hull assigned us was a figuring drawing. A person from our class named Jamie modeled for us while we drew her. Throughout this drawing process shading and proportions was a large aspect of getting this assignment done correctly. Drawing what we see was something that was also important as well as making sure we disregarded what we thought we saw. I used many colors throughout my drawing because I am a strong believer in abstract art and I wanted to add that into this drawing because it seemed very necessary on my part. Although, this was slightly abstract I made sure to add the colors Jamie was wearing as well as the colors.

This was the first figure drawing that I have done personally for the first time in my entire life. There were many things I could have improved on for example making better shoes and making sure that the legs were straight and didn't look like jello. Therefore, being that I was able to grasp many details, I can call it a success even though Jamie didn't look like "Jamie" within my drawing. When people see my artwork I would like them to think "wow, that has a great amount of detail , I wonder who drew it?".

For our second assignment Ms. Hull told us to draw glass object figures. Going about this seemed like it would be difficult, but with different techniques drawing became one step simpler. The materials we used were an eraser and charcoal for this and of course paper. Two techniques that were done throughout this drawing process were the shading and erasing techniques. I shaded in different areas throughout this image to depict the portions were there were shadows and where the light hits the object. My shadow of my image on the table was lighter because that is the way it looked when I drew it. From this drawing one thing that Ms. Hull taught us to do as a class was to draw what you see, which is what I did.

As seen from my second photo below, this glass object figure was on a table/surface and had water inside of it.

Glass

Posted by Sarena Shuman in Advanced Art - Hull on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 7:04 pm

Ms. Hull told us that we need to make a glass in 3-D I was prepared. Until we seen the video for an example, I got nervous. It looked so difficult the way the artist drew it so good. I got my paper and thought how did the artist start in the video. I shaded the background lightly so in the end it can look great. Then I drew a wide circle to start. I started to form the rim of my 3-D glass.

I drew the rim and made it bend into the circle, which was the format of the bowl. Then I started to blend and shade the color. The outside of my bowl is not solid black; I tried to find light and dark areas. That was difficult because sometimes it was hard to find. So when I got done my vase I started my flower. I formed the pedals and made sure I shaded n black and grey. I added some white to lighten the color. Then I added red into it, to make an extra step, and make my picture come alive. I blended red and peach together to make my peddles pretty. I enjoyed this project.

Ms. Hull told the class to draw a 6ft picture of a girl named Jamie in our class. I was nervous and going crazy. But I just breathed and relaxed and tried to know where I would start. First, I took the 6ft piece of paper and nailed it to the side of the wall and got her side view.

I started with an outline of her whole body. Then blend her hair in work colors, and stark forming her face. I made her shirt and started to form her body. Then I made her waste, and pants. I messed up but corrected it. I made the sneakers.

Then I was happy, but the color blending was hard. I added green, red, yellow, and orange in the hair. But then the shirt was green, and added great effects to it. The pants I left regular colors. When I finished I was satisfied.

Dalena Bui Glass Drawing

Posted by Dalena Bui in Advanced Art - Hull on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 1:09 pm

First I put out a blank canvas and then I put a charcoal light background to it because it helps with the shading. I first got into it because my art teacher showed us a video on shading. I felt like I could of added more dimension to my artwork. I feel that my artwork is really nice and I like the depths that were added into this picture. My favorite tool is charcoal because it is really fun to use. My favorite material is charcoal. I like the depths of the shading in my picture. The depths of the shading really add a lot to the picture. Circles emerge a lot in my drawing. This is my first time doing shading like this. Well this drawing is all black and gray and it adds a lot of depth. shading, and color also to this drawing.

Dalena Bui Figure Drawing

Posted by Dalena Bui in Advanced Art - Hull on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 1:08 pm

My figure drawing consist of Jamie side. At first the drawing was hard because I didn't know how to draw the features and the body from the side. I like the side profile because it captures her face well. My favorite part was using charcoal because drawing with that was really messy and fun. I really like drawing side profiles because it captures the profile really nicely. The side profile turned out really nicely because it captures all of the model features nicely. The patterns that appear in the image are squares and circles and rectangles appear throughout the picture. Everything was new to me because I never had art in my old school. The teal was my favorite to use because it adds brightness to the pictures. The color teals add brightness , color , and brightness to the picture.

Clear Object Drawing -Jamie Murphy

Posted by Jamie Murphy in Advanced Art - Hull on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 8:40 pm

For this project I drew a clear object. I chose a clear glass cup, because it seemed moderately different with its cylinder shape. It's bottom had design in the glass, which was also clear. I thought it would be nice to have a different type of thing that I've never drawn before.

With my clear drawing I tried using new things i've never used before. Such as drawing with charcoal. At first I had to start out my drawing with a mid-tone by shading the charcoal and smoothing it over with my hand. I then drew the cup as i saw it. I constantly used the eraser to show the light spots in the cup. I smoothed out the charcoal so lighten up the darker spots. All of my previous work I've done was with pencil, or other commonly easy to use materials like that. Never Charcoal, where I can shade the colors to how i want.

Overall this drawing was a very well planned out new experience for me.

Clear Object Drawing Artist Statement

Posted by Theodora Farah in Advanced Art - Hull on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 11:34 am

I chose to draw a rectangular glass, because its rounded corners were more interesting and challenging to me.  I enjoy challenging myself, even if the end result isn’t as good as something easier would have been.  I’m always looking to improve my art skills and try new things.

I had never used a midtone in my drawings before, so that was something new in itself.  I also wasn’t used to working with charcoal—I nearly always use pencils, simply because they’re simple and can be erased—but it turned out to be pretty enjoyable.  I ended up focusing on getting used to the new techniques rather than making a perfect sketch of the glass.

I know that a piece is done when there’s nothing I want to change about it.  I try to look at it from a stranger’s perspective and decide whether or not they would see what I want them to see.  It’s very uplifting to feel that a piece is the way I want it to be.

Figure Drawing Artist Statement

Posted by Theodora Farah in Advanced Art - Hull on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 11:33 am

I’m not at all used to drawing with anything besides a pencil and 8.5” x 11” paper.  I thought the drawing would be a disaster, but it wasn’t so bad.  I’m actually pretty proud about how it turned out, considering how unusual a medium this was for me.  I couldn’t even hold the pastel in the way I usually hold a pencil, because I’m a little neurotic about getting my hands and clothes dirty.

I didn’t hold myself to my usual standard of total precision and allowed myself to concentrate on getting the general shapes right.  I think concentrating on the big picture (so to speak) is something I should do more even when I’m using my regular pencil and paper.  It helped me a lot.  In the end, my drawing wasn’t incredibly detailed, but I think it actually bears some resemblance to the model, which is pretty cool.

Unfortunately, this picture is a little distorted, and makes the top appear larger than the bottom.

Zac Castro - Q1 - Art

Posted by Zachary Castro in Advanced Art - Hull on Monday, October 24, 2011 at 9:11 am

So this is my 2nd drawing of Jamie (backside). The reason I say it's my 2nd drawing is because someone took down my 1st drawing, and i don't know who or where it went to. My 2nd drawing isn't as good as the 1st one i had drawn but my drawing is very cool. I know it may be hard to see because of the paper i used but i outlined it with some darker colors. Its not very detailed but i did a last minute job cause of the problem i had. I just want to give a special thanks to Emma for helping Matt Ferry and me out for being my Art partner. So yeah, I'll take comments (good or bad). So thanks and here is my drawing
