For my capstone, I wanted to do something not only for students and teachers as well. So I decided to clean up Room 500 up on the fifth floor. Room 500 is a room where students hang out, teachers take students for quizzes and studying, or both students and teachers go to so they can use the printer there. The room was in a bad state, the walls were a pale green covered in graffiti and there were books and trash all over the floor.  I took it upon myself to take some time to clean up the room before I got to painting the walls to cover up the graffiti and moving shelves in for teachers. However, before I got to doing physical work, I collected data from students and teachers in order to get the result both parties wanted, as well as doing research. When it came to painting walls, light and dark colors worked best for ficus and prevented headaches and such. Bright colors that have an extra pop tend to strain the eyes and gives people headaches, which is what I was trying to avoid for students. Teachers wanted space to organize things as well as a space that is clean in order to hold tests and such. As soon as I got what I needed, I moved straight to the physical work which was finished in no time and the result came out really nice.

Love Blinds All

Posted by Vilma Martinez in English 3 - Pahomov - D on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 12:47 am

"Taming of the Shrew", a movie about love that has been around for a long time. "How to Lose a Guy In 10 Days", a recent movie about breaking up with a guy in a limited time. Both of these pieces have their characters go through trial and error when it comes to love and show us different yet similar sides of love.

In both "Taming of The Shrew" and "How to Lose a Guy In 10 Days", deception is key point for the relationships of main characters. In "The Shrew", Lucentio, a guy who has fallen in love with a girl named Bianca, who dresses up as an education instructor in order to gain her love. While a man named Petruchio, who is trying to gain Katherine’s love breaks a promise he made to her father of having Katherine fall in love before having her marry him.

In "10 Days", Andie, a woman currently working for a magazine was given a task that needed to be completed in 10 days, which was to lose a guy that has grown attached to her. She chose Benjamin as the guy she would "lose". These two texts are different because in “The Shrew” , Petruchio’s trying to gain Katherine’s in order to gain the riches he will, but in “10 days” the main character is trying to drive a guy away in a limited amount of time. However, they are more similar than different because by the end of both these pieces someone eventually falls in love because love eventually blooms, even through the deception, because in the end they have truth to make up for it.

“Lucentio: I told you before… I am Lucentio… son unto Vincentio of Pisa, and that “Lucentio” comes a-wooing… is my man Tranio… bearing my port… that we might beguile the old pantaloon.

Bianca: I know you not… I trust you not… take heed he hear us not… presume not… despair not”

(Act 3, Scene 1, Lines 33-47, Lucentio and Bianca’s Dialogue)

In “The Shrew” a lot of deception occurs and in this scene, Lucentio reveals who he actually is. Bianca is not fond of the idea that he did hide who he was, but was willing to let him know that he still had a chance to be with her. Unlike Bianca, both Andie and Benjamin were not fond of deceiving one another. It is clear in this scene that Bianca is ok with the way Lucentio and the others deceived her. She was willing to give him a chance because she was in such a rush to fall in love and get married.

Compared to Bianca and Lucentio, Andie and Ben are not in a place where they want to fall in love, but due to a bet and an article, they eventually do causing a huge break down in their relationship.

At this point if “10 days”, Andie finds out about the bet Benjamin made and Benjamin finds out about the article that Andie was going to write. Both parties get angry at one another for the setup, but walk away with raw emotions. Compared to “The Shrew”, Andie walked away during this fight, unlike Katherine who

sticks by Petruchio’s side even though he always treated her like trash. Katherine stuck around even though she was given a chance to run away. Andie on the other hand did not accept being toyed around the way she was, but neither did Benjamin.

“Thy husband is thy lord, thy life, thy keeper,

Thy head, thy sovereign, one that cares for thee,

And for thy maintenance; commits his body

To painful labor, both by sea and land”

(Act 5, Scene 2, Lines 17-20 Katherine’s Dialogue)

When the final scene in the book came around, Katherine was the first wife to follow her husband’s orders and come to him first while dragging the other wives with her. She then goes into a speech on how a woman should treat her husband and how those women who refused to go to their husbands should be ashamed of themselves. In “The Shrew” Katherine confessed her “love” to Petruchio, but he did not do the same. The reason for that is that he does not love her because all he wanted in the first place was the land and money he would get by marrying her. The difference in these two scenes is that in “10 days” both Benjamin and Andie love each other, but difference in “The Shrew” Katherine only “loves” Petruchio and he does not “love” her back.

Unlike in “The Shrew”, in “10 days” both of the main characters show a strong love for one another by the end of the movie.

By the end of the movie, Andie has published her article on “How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days”.  When a friend of Benjamin’s reads the article, he hands it to Ben to read. As he scans the article he sees that Andie talks about being in love with Ben and he decides to go after her. They soon confront each other about their love and get together.  Even through what they have done to one another, they looked back on what had happened within the 10 days they had been together, making them forget about the bad and embrace their love. Although in both pieces, the characters confess their love, the one person who did not do so was Petruchio, he was the only one who had yet to say I love you in some sort of way to Katherine and mean it.

In the end, these two movies have managed to show love blossoming through the worst of situations. Even through the rough times a person can still find the emotions to appreciate another and accept the love they have truly fought to find. Both “Taming of The Shrew” and “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” have shown two stories unfold in crazy ways. The base of the relationships might not have been stable, but the result was a good by the the end because it was love that made them forget all about those bad things and only focus on their love.

Being Betrayed

Posted by Vilma Martinez in English 3 - Pahomov - D on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at 10:33 pm

I guess you can say it all started back in 8th grade. I had the best group of friends a girl could ask for. But there was that one friend, LuLu.

She seemed to involve herself with every boy in her path and not just any boy. It had to be one of our ex boyfriends or someone we used to have a crush on. Anyone we had feelings for, she would involve herself with. At one point I knew it was going to happen because it was not the first time she betrayed the trust of one of us the way she did. One of our friends, Ezzy, had a major crush on a guy and they were so close to one another that when she claimed that she no longer liked him. We could see it in her eyes that yeah she did not like him, she loved him. Of course LuLu did not get the message and went after him anyways.

It was none of our business on why she would do it, but we wanted to know why. We could not stand the dreadful thought of her hurting one of us again or hurting the next person in her path. Who knew that the next victim involved in all of this would be me. Maria, one of our other friends, did not know what was going on, and she was the closest one to LuLu out of all of us. She did not find out this until a week before we graduated middle school. I was not told anything about it and neither was Ezzy or Jen aware of the situation. Maria promised LuLu that she would not tell me or anyone else about what had happened between her and my “ex” crush. At that point in time I thought I no longer had feelings for him, but I was wrong because a boy named Juan.

“You know you look like you have a crush on me” he brought up.

“What of it” I asked him

“Well, I know you truly don’t. I know that deep down inside of your heart, you still have feelings for Ethan” he said bluntly. In that moment I thought “what would he know.”, but my heart was beating so loud in my ears.

“Maybe he is right” I thought. I still had feelings for this one guy and did not seem let him go. I was just looking for someone to make me let go of these feelings.

“Thanks” I told him

“For” he questioned. I smiled at him.

“For making me realize what my true feelings were” I said.

The next day I decided to talk it out with my friends.

“Hey you know Juan made me realize something yesterday”. I began to tell them during lunch, but it seemed like Maria had something more urgent to say. She did not tell me until the next day. The way Ezzy had to do a whole lap around the school building and came back on the verge of tears proved it. The way Jen seemed to have the air knocked out of her proved that. The way Maria seemed so genuine, ready to comfort the waterworks to come proved that.

The next day was the worst. English class had a whole other meaning to it. Once I was told the way LuLu betrayed me, I was done for. Those clear words are ones I can not write down for the simple reason that they bring up emotions that I do not want to feel again. Ezzy almost cried because she thought of him as a brother and thought of him doing that was downright awful and unbelievable. I cried because I thought he was better than that. He allowed himself to be easily manipulated by her, which was the worst part. Of course we were all curious to know if the whole thing was true so we asked Chris, who was his and one of our friends. The seven of us were close, so in a small group of friends like that, things were bound to be said. When we asked him, he was clueless.

“Hey did Ethan tell you anything about him and a girl” Maria asked

“No, from what I know he is with nobody, why do you ask” Chris said

“Just asking” I told him

“Don’t lie, what happened, what did he do” Chris asked

“Lunch, we will tell you at lunch” I said

“No, tell me” he demanded

“Lunch” Ezzy said ending the conversation there. When we told him at lunch, he flipped out.

“That has got be a lie, that’s bull” he said, but Maria shook her head as if saying “it is not a lie”

“I thought he was better than that and he did not tell any of us” he said disappointment dripping off of every word. When Ethan and Tommy walked back over to our table we hushed up. Ethan was the most suspicious. We told Tommy later, but we ignored Ethan. Just to my luck he asked me to be his date to the dinner dance for the next day’s graduation. I of course said yes, but never let go of what he possibly did. After the graduation and after the dinner, the next day he texted me and we began to talk. Out of nowhere he brought up the crush I had on him and then brought up what he and my friends had discussed.

“That is a lie, are you seriously going to believe rumors” he texted me, but when high school came the last thing I expected to be brought up once again. A friend who was not even involved and left halfway through the school year managed to find out about it. That was when I knew it was true. What had been a “lie” actually did happen. So I confronted Ethan once again and demanded the truth without a single little lie. He spilled it then and there. I needed some time away from him so I didn’t talk to him for a while, but I slowly started to forgive him because at some point in some of our lives we will be easily manipulated into doing something. We of course are really close friends now, but I find it hard to trust others now. Trust can be easily lost and hard to gain when it comes to me after what had happened. I gained and lost respect for people, but it is something that burns in my memory. I think the reason I never forgot was to remember that even those close to us manage to break us apart and hurt you where it hurts the most. To remember those things still hurt and will continue to hurt and things will happen, but we will eventually forgive and maybe we will slowly forget. I am glad and happy that I was told the truth, that I got the answer that was needed. I did not get the answer I wanted, but as long as it was the truth, I was fine. I do not enjoy sugar coating things when I talk to people, and I do not like it when people sugar coat things when they talk to me. The truth can hurt a lot of the time, but it is something that people just need to know. This was inspired by many moments in “The Yellow Birds”. Every part of the book was true to the events they described. Every detail was included into the book and although the wording made it seem as if everything was a dream, a false hope. It was true all of it was true.

The Thin Ideal and The Way It Affects Teen Girls

Posted by Vilma Martinez in English 3 - Pahomov - D on Monday, November 9, 2015 at 12:02 pm

There are some girls out there who are completely comfortable with flaunting their natural beauty. However, the majority of young women today are afraid to accept themselves and show the world who they really are, because society has portrayed the picture perfect image of a girl and it’s not what they look like  Currently, the ideal image for a girl includes those with skinny waists, flat tummies, and just being thin altogether. Which has changed from previous eras where bigger and curvier girls were considered beautiful along with skinny, but not extremely thin girls.

Teen girls already like to compare themselves and wish they were like Ariana Grande and Kate Hudson along with many other celebrities.  “The Thin Ideal” does not help the self esteem of teen girls because it causes them to go to extremes to achieve that body image. Girls have been manipulated into thinking what is right and wrong with a girls image. On Huffington Post, Katie Atkinson says that “Women have been taught to compare themselves to others for most of their lives. There are signs everywhere, at every corner, flashing the words "you aren't good enough" to every teenaged girl in America.” Ads for products such as Skinny Fiber say stuff such as “Eat Less, Feel Fuller: which is why they call it Skinny Fiber is an example of what shames girls with fuller bodies. This ad is then followed by a drawing of a girl with a skinny waist, which is also on the packaging of the product. Although there are a lot more signs to be found everywhere that don’t specifically say those things it does not mean that those things are not being conveyed through an image. An image says more than a thousands words, especially an image that appears more than once and in many forms. It makes an attempt to send a message if they did not get it the other countless times and in ways they may understand.

Even though there are images out there of females portrayed as extremely thin down to the bone, with no thigh gap, and barely any muscle on their body, both women and girls alike have learned to empower themselves and know that they are better than what is being advertised in everywhere they go. Girls are now being thought a stronger side on self acceptance which brings more attention to different body images. On Huffington Post, Ellie Krupnick tested 37 different subject and got the following results “When the idealized female images are presented blatantly -- we detect the ideal being thrown in our faces. We therefore fortify our own self-image as a defense mechanism, as if to say, "We see what you're trying to do here... and we're not falling for it." As a result, our self-esteem actually rises...But when the idealized female images are exposed subtly -- it gets under our skin without us realizing. We end up feeling bad about ourselves.” When being shown the obvious in their faces it is shown that there is nothing to hide and be ashamed of.

The content of an article or magazine is always the same, but it is different to every person who reads it. Everyone interprets things differently and it just so happens that teen girls have managed to see those images and interpret that they have to change their bodies to fit what society thinks is beautiful, but this constant reminder has also caused this negative mindset. Health Psych says that “Magazines, television shows, movies, commercials, etc. portray attractive women as being extremely thin. It is nearly impossible to escape the influence of the media and children are being exposed to these portrayals earlier and earlier in life. Since we live in a world of constant stimulation and immediate access to all sorts of media, could the constant reminder of the “thin ideal” cause body dissatisfaction, a negative body image, and low self-esteem?” It is as though the same things are being repeated just so that it can get stuck in the heads of many teen girls. With this constant reminder of “not being good or pretty enough” the self esteem of those girls has being affected too much that they have been pushed to starve themselves to achieve this picture perfect image. It has been seen that plenty of teenage girls will do anything to fit in and that includes going as far as to starve themselves to achieve this Thin Ideal

Although The Thin Ideal may only seem important to ten girls in our society it should in fact concern anyone who cares about the well being of teen girls in this century. Teen girls have managed to become easily manipulated by what media and society says, especially with the big role models they have that are people known all over social media. They compare themselves to these role models making them vulnerable to the comparison of the “Thin Ideal”. Their confidence and low self-esteem goes down and they soon stop loving themselves. Once they see that they no longer love themselves they will do whatever it takes to reach this ideal by taking weight loss pills, starving themselves and get diagnosed with an eating disorder. In worse case scenario they might realize that they can’t reach this ideal and take away their own life, which is something that is not wanted by many people. There are different and small ways everywhere to get this ideal stuck in their heads, but it takes a huge community to stomp out that ideal.

I chose this 2fer because I wanted to focus more on supporting ideas and fix that up a bit. I also wanted to edit the grammar and add a few sentences to give it a better overall view. I also know that there were mistakes with the POV, so I fixed that and whatever other simple mistakes that need to be checked on.

Climate Change Monologue Project

Posted by Vilma Martinez in World History - Block - C on Monday, October 6, 2014 at 5:51 am
In this unit we learned how climate change affects people all around the world in many ways. We got to see videos and articles towards this issue. We also got a chance to write our own monologues.

(a girl is being told that she has lost loved ones and now is going on a rant about climat change)

Missing Out

What happened to the rest of us? Why are there only a little bit of us? You mean she is gone and so is he? Well that can’t be right, please tell me it is not right, right?

(runs hands through hair furiously)

Huh, how the hell did it come to this. Oh yea I heard bubba and mumma talking about how the air was being polluted by smoke filled with nasty things, yeah and then they went on that trip to the philippines where the typhoon hit and now are somewhere else far away from here. Why, Why did people decide that certain things had to be built on earth and other things had to be done on earth. What is wrong with earth that you have to change all the time, and now with all of the change happening we will never know when the earth will come to an end, it could be today, tomorrow, the day after tomorrow or a year from today.

(makes random and unnecessary hand gestures)

Many of you realize what you are doing to the earth, but are not doing anything about it. Why don’t you want to do anything about, I just don’t understand. You decide to waste money by putting things on and in earth that will not help it, but destroy it more instead putting that money to good use and find ways to help the earth. People, honestly, do you not realize what is happening here. Just like everyone is saying there are things going into the air that are not supposed to be there, yet you sit around at look at what is happening, might as well you a drink and some popcorn and call this a movie because you are not doing anything to help what is happening on this earth, now because of people like you that ignore the problems factories and everything else brings I no longer have anyone or anything to call home. Now go take a long walk and think about what you have done.

(a secret animal is talking to a random guy even though he doesn't understand him)

Unheard Voice

I saw you walking past me just a few minutes ago, so I slyly moved down the street hiding from any sign of danger you might bring me, but you didn’t do anything. Peeking to see if everything is alright, coast clear? Alright. There goes my cousin, oh and brother and sister. We are all out here, we hardly ever get enough food or water. Everytime it rains we have to run and hide. Nowhere is really safe for us. We don’t have a family because they want us,  just to throw us away into the streets. Many of us died in the typhoon, too much to try and keep count. It is a miracle some of us managed to survive. I’ve heard you and others talk about how something is being put in the air, carbon dioxide. I knew something was wrong with the air I breathe, you breathe, we all breathe. They say we are supposed to inhale the good and exhale the bad yet everything we inhale and exhale is bad.I also heard people say the water is becoming a little too dangerous to drink, just a little, yet I drink it or else I will die. I know people like you put these bad things on this earth because I’ve heard you say it and other people say it. We didn’t do anything to deserve this. You never realize how this can affect us or anyone else. It is already bad enough many of us die every day from starvation, abuse and cruelty. It isn’t fair to us, we suffer from the things that are caused by you humans. Humans why do you have to do this to us. What did we ever do to you. This might seem all about me, but I am speaking for everyone who feels the same way, we suffer everyday because of you and this how you think respect should be earned, please. If only you can truly feel how much pain this has caused us. Everything you have done to this world. You don’t even realize the way it affects you. You are destroying the earth little by little and don’t realize it until someone decides to shove in your face, but even then you still don’t realize it. Now what am I rambling about, nothing really, and you would not pay attention anyway. Though I should stop talking since no one really cares about the feelings of a cat.

(an amish mother is writing a letter to a random person in the city)

Letter From An Amish Mother

Taking care of five kids is just as hard as it sounds, probably even harder, but I don’t think so. Living here in Ohio has gotten real hard for us, what with the climate change and all. Being the seventh most populous doesn’t help either. In the summer whenever I want to grow things to feed the family I can’t because of all the carbon dioxide in the air. It ruins my crops just when they are ready for picking. I would be able to sell some if had enough crops to sell and feed my family. We are lucky enough to feed my family for a whole week with the crops we pick. Climate change is affecting us so badly. I can’t teach my kids about home like because the water is getting too dirty to do anything with and since the crops are not growing well that I can’t teach them about plantation. I heard many cities have factories and that is what is releasing the carbon dioxide. Why do you need so many factories,I mean we manage and we don’t need all of the factories you guys have. I know we get products that are made in factories, but it is very few to be honest, so you can’t say we depend on it, because we don’t. This just isn’t healthy for the atmosphere and for us as humans, I wonder if you could pass this on to anyone who can read this and consider what they are really participating in. This has got to stop because our world is crumbling to pieces and we are a contributing factor to this. If we want to achieve a good future, one of the big steps we can take is by doing something about climate change. Thank you for taking your time for reading this letter from a rambling mother, but this had to be heard by someone or no one.

This is my video for my second monologue

Blog #3: Making a change in the community!

Posted by Vilma Martinez in English 1 - Dunn - X on Friday, May 30, 2014 at 8:47 pm

Hey, Vilma Martinez again! In my first blog I talked about Kitten neglection that occurs here in the

city of Philadelphia. In my second blog I talked about animal neglection in general. Now for my

final blog post I will be talking about what I did to make a difference in our community. For my

Agent of change action piece I decided to start a bake sale at my school, so that I can

have an opportunity to donate the money I raised to the PSPCA. Selling the baked goods at my

school was tough work, but it was something I managed to get htrough. I was able to raise a fair

amount of money to donate. After a while me and my mom finally decided to go down to the

PSPCA to donate the money. After meeting with two of their employees, we were given a tour

around the building.

The tour was… WOW. The building contained murals of animals that have passed on and

places for the animals to play and relax. The cats were so playful and sweet and then looking

into the animal hospital was heart breaking, the poor animals were caged recovering from

operation. Witnessing this was something that truly was so powerful because these animals

managed to survive so many things. I felt very happy.

CAM00783.jpg

We were able to see the cats and kittens in the building that were being put up for adoption. They

were so sweet and adorable, and most of the animals there were only cats and kittens. It was

really sad to see them there without a family to care for them.

Finally at the end of the tour I was able to give them the money and leave the building satisfied

that I did something good for neglected animals. I really do hope the animals in the shelter find a

home where they can feel safe in.

Final Perspective Drawing

Posted by Vilma Martinez in Art - Freshman - Hull - b1 on Sunday, April 20, 2014 at 6:55 pm
Through out this project I have learned to pay attention on simple details in drawings because they will be necessary on accomplishing the final piece of art. Learning this has helped perfect details in drawings so that they can be better and more appealing to the viewers attention. The direction and setting to which I have drawn the tables would be set differently. I would tell them to pay real good attention in class, ask for help, and search up ways to improve their knowledge on the subject. Everything we have learned in class has helped equally, but if you wanna take things step by step, the final project website really helped in the beginning of the task.

YATW Blog Post #2: Animal Nelgection

Posted by Vilma Martinez in English 1 - Dunn - X on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 6:46 pm

Hello everybody I am back and here to inform you more on Animal Neglect. So in my previous blog post I mentioned Kitten neglection here in Philadelphia and how it affects the city. I have posted stories on examples of how they were neglected and how awful it is to look at this. Now I would like to discuss the topic on Animal neglect in general and I have been doing a bit of research and decided to make a survey about this topic. They are based on basic knowledge to appeal on others opinions. The first question included a ratio in which the viewer would think what a homeless person to a homeless animal is, 14% thought it was 1:1, surprisingly 0% was for 1:2, a solid 43% thought it was 1:3, another 14% thought it was 1:4, and the remaining 29% thought it was 1:5. The results for this was very surprising, I expected a good percentage to pick 1:2, but no one appeared to choose it. Many of this answers were a good shots at trying to get the correct answer, although the correct answer is 1:5, that 29% got it correct without even knowing so congrats! I believe that this answer would be correct because although there are many many homeless people there are also a lot of stray animals. There are more stray animals then you actually think, although you see many people out there asking for money that also don't have a home or food or maybe even family, there are also much more stray animals out there that also ask for comfort and food and the slightest bit of attention so that they actually know that there are people that care for them. I think that this is very wrong and something that can be fixed. Although there are animal shelters that are full and can't accept animals into theŕ hold you can also give an animal to people who would need the company. THere are plenty of homeless people out there why not give them a companion they can be with, they both know that they are secure with someone they would wanna be with. Doing this would be killing two birds with one stone (not promoting animal violence), you get to help the community doing two things. Although this seems like a good idea, there are plenty of other ideas that can help out in the community with issues like these. Just helping out would make a big difference.

Many of the animals that will be helped would be of the biggest population there is, cats. Now on my survey I asked  a agree disagree question to get the opinions of those taking my survey. Screenshot 2014-03-03 at 7.00.07 PM.png

As seen here I wanted to know if it was true for them if cats in particular were abused more than dogs and dogs in particular were used just to make profits off of. Here were the responses of the viewers. I hate the fact that their are people who say that dogs would be more abused than cats reason being that it is not true, they are either equally or less abused than dogs. I believe this as my own opinion because I have seen many of the stray cats that have walked around on my block and I have never once seen a stray dog in all of the states I have ever been to. Here in Philadelphia on my street I have seen with my own eyes that cats have been mistreated very badly and have been messed around with like a toy, this is unfair and discrimination towards them. ¨A dog is a man's best friend¨ is a saying commonly used and is true because a dog is most likely to find a home than a cat would. It is upsetting to think that animals in general are treated differently between one another and can be thought of ways through merely  little stereotypes between animals. This is like your common types in human diversity, it similar in animals. I wanna be able to help trying to shut out these stereotypes. So, to make a difference I will be doing field work on my block by creating a bake sale at my school to help raise money to provide stray animals on my block with shelter and food to keep safe in the harsh moments of the seasons. This is something that would be rare to find someone to do. Something your normal person would do is volunteer at an animal shelter, but I find that to be cliche so I decided to do this. I just hope to have this work out!!!!!bake-sale-sign.jpg

YATW Blog #1: Kitten Neglection in Philadelphia

Posted by Vilma Martinez in English 1 - Dunn - X on Monday, December 16, 2013 at 9:59 am
Hello my name is Vilma Martinez in Ms.Dunn's English 9 class and for this project we are required to find an issue in the community and find a way to help solve the problem. An issue I have with the community is Kitten Neglection. Many citizens of this community appreciate dogs more than cats. They don’t realize that cats need as much care as dogs do. Cats roam all over the street and they don’t deserve that. If you are a dog owner and you see a cat roaming around in the street do something to help them out. Now don't go overboard, I'm not saying to take the cat in as a pet, but the least you can do is give it some food or water or milk or a blanket to let them know that there are actually people in this world that care about them. They need to be shown that there actually people with hearts that don't treat them like trash as their previous owners did by throwing them out onto the street, if you know that you are going to get a cat then throw them out onto the street or do anything to endanger it, then don’t get the cat at all. Like, seriously the more cats there are in the streets the more heart breaking it becomes to see those cats die when you finally have the chance to save them.

In the article The Story of Bramble: A Story of Neglection A cat Bramble always wandered around the streets. People wanted to help him and then one night he somehow he got trapped in a random family's kitchen. The poor cat was so skinny the family thought his legs were broken, but it was his shoulder blades giving them that impression. Someone finally came to his rescue and decided to take the cat into her home, She gave the cat necessary essentials, but she knew he was slowly slipping away. She rushed him to the hospital where they tried their best to help him survive to live a good healthy life, but he died the second day of being in the hospital because his breathing collapsed. This right here is a tragic story that brought tears into my eyes for quite a while. Now the article Justin the Kitten, this cat went through just as much as Bramble did with the only difference that he actually... lived. Now Justin suffered from heinous physical abuse at only five weeks old. When he was found he had been set on fire by his owner. He was rushed to the hospital for immediate recovery. Both his ears were lost because of dead cartilage ( I know this was to happen because my kitten lost an ear due to a similar situation where only hers was an accident ) but he still has his hearing. After his recovery he was sent with a family that actually cares for him and being with that family helped him become healthy again.
And so we say thank you, Justin! You're an inspiration to us all.

Now people need to learn to care for these cats. If they tend to bad habits they are worth making them change instead of throwing them out onto the streets because you can’t take what they are doing. Give them a chance to change or at least help them change instead of leaving them alone to have no one to depend on. They are innocent creatures, if you have the courage to do that to an animal who knows what you can do to a child. An animal is another version of a child it’s like seeing a baby try to survive the terrors of the city. If you wouldn’t want to see a child in the same position don’t do this to a small creature who has as much feelings as a child.

Well my question why do people do this? Why do they decide to get rid of a precious animal who is in need of help? This project will help me get into the community to do something about this issue. Kitten Neglection is critical and it needs to come to an end.

Vilma Martinez: Many Slide

Posted by Vilma Martinez in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - b2 on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 8:11 am
In this assignment we were supposed to create one slide describing ourselves, and also create a script to present to the class. This presentation shows a simple understanding of who I am. As seen here a drawing of a book explains the passion I have for reading, writing, and drawing. Next to the drawing I used "Creative" to describe my personality. The rule of thirds has only been used in this project for the word.

To reflect on this, In the second slide of this assignment I edited a few things of what I was given feed back on. I darkened the gray of the background and then lowered the font of "Creative" and connected the c with the r. There was not much I had to change, just very small details to appeal to the viewers. I just reflected on what I was told and tried my best to fix those small flaws and the product is shown below

Home Network

Posted by Vilma Martinez in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - b2 on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at 12:56 pm

For this assignment the class was required to create a drawing of our home network and then recreate it on LucidChart. The significance of this assignment was to establish a clear understanding of how the internet travels in and out of your house. It was pointed out to the class that the internet is not something simple and practical, but something that requires a lot of work to function. This is a drawing to present how the Internet travels through my home.
