Stella Peterson Capstone

Posted by Stella Peterson in CTE Senior Capstone · Ugworji/Walker-Roberts · Wed on Monday, May 10, 2021 at 10:00 am

My capstone was to create an Etsy shop, AStellarCraft, which is linked below, to see how digital media and consumer goods where connected. This would also help provide me experience and eventually lead me to my future career in marketing and advertising. All the profits that I made from this store was donated to the Trevor Project, and the receipt of my donation is also shown below. I have during the time of lockdown and coronavirus, I have been able to hone and study a new skill: crocheting. I wanted to use this skill to not only help gay youth around the country, but also investigate the ties between what I have been studying in CTE Digital Video for the past three years and the abundance of online marketplaces and stores. My element is Tungsten, or Wolfram as it is sometimes called. Its atomic number is 74. Tungsten has the highest melting point and boiling point of all the elements that have been found. It is a transition metal. My element was found in 1783 by two brothers in Spain. They found it when they isolated it from acid. Tungsten can be used for a lot of stuff from military weapons to lights bulbs and x-ray tubes.

I got the idea to do a cello because I learned that Tungsten is used for one of the strings on the cello. The C string on most cellos are made with Tungsten. Because Tungsten is so dense, it gives the C string extra projection. Since this is a less known use, I decided to do that.

First, I sketched out what my cello would look like in my art sketchbook. Then I traced it onto the tracing paper Ms. Hull gave us. After that I traced it onto styrofoam. From there, I painted it and put the image onto paper.

If I was to do this project again I would have a more interesting texture in the back and I would try to indent more so the image is clearer.

The part of the project that I enjoyed most was painting the styrofoam and putting onto the paper with a wooden spoon. I enjoyed this because it was fun and gave me a better understanding of negative space.

 A. What is negative space
Negative space is the space around and between the image of an object.
B. Explain how you found negative space in your cut out?
I first cut out the image from the white paper. Then I put those pieces onto the yellow paper, the color that I wanted the tree to see. I placed th image of the tree on the yellow and cut it out. From there, I placed the yellow tree on the black paper, the color that I wanted to be the background. I placed one place of the yellow tree, or rather the background of the yellow tree, on one side. From there, I just flipped the image to mirror the missing part.
 C. Why does it help an artist to see in negative space?
It helps an artist to see negative space because negative space helps define the image and provides a background to the image.
D. Does seeing in negative space enhance drawings, why or why not?
It does enhance drawing because it the draws attention to the image that the artist wants you to see.

Remix Google Slide

pdf

I made several changes to my slide for this class. I was told that my slide had some distractions in it. Previously I had my name in a big font above the Shakespeare quote, but Anthony pointed out that he didn't know where to look first, at my name or the quote. Because of that advice, I decided to remove my name, and make my quote bigger. Once I did that, I centered it and made it the first thing people looked at, using the rule of thirds.

To remake my slide, I decided revisit all the websites to see what I could do better. They said that I should have my slide focus on one thing, make it the first thing that captures the eye. Another source I used were my classmates. While I was remaking my slide, I went to them for their opinions on the changes I had made.

One thing I learned when remaking my slide was that you can't rush the changes you make to your slide. At first, I made my name bigger, and my quote smaller. I then deleted my name and changed my quote´s font. Another thing I learned is the rule of thirds. I learned how to properly use it and have it on my slide.

Slide About Me

Posted by Stella Peterson in Technology - Freshman · Hull · d2 Band on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 8:20 pm

I made this slide to reflect who I am and what I care about. I chose a theater because it fills the space and the image bleeds off the page. Another thing the websites said was to have it be visual, so I made my font big and made it pop out. I chose the cursive font because it is very elegant and catches the eye. I chose the Shakespeare quote because that is one of my favorite quotes for him. I feel like I can really relate to this quote, and I also put it on my slide to reflect my love of literature. Thank you for listening

Digital Home Network

Posted by Stella Peterson in Technology - Freshman · Hull · d2 Band on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 1:10 pm
a. The devices that are on my home network and mine and my parents. There is our phones, our laptops, and there ipads. There is also our chromecast, which is hooked up with our television.

b. I learned about what exactly my home network was. Before this I had only a vague idea of how the internet/ wifi worked. I learned about who controls it, and how it works.

c. I would tell other people that they need to do research on how the internet works and the parts needed so they don´t get ripped off.
