Blood Simple Review

Posted by Shakeelah Finney in Digital Video -4 day a week - Herman on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 10:04 pm
The movie for the most part held a great story line. The set up of the first scene had a good way of capturing the audience, by starting with the affair head first. For the first scene where the affair is acknowledged the director did a good job in not only focusing on the couple but filmed different parts of the room. You can tell that the couple were very comfortable with each other as a whole. This clearly wasn't the first time that they had messed around. The chemistry that had showed not only by the way that they carried themselves around each other, but by their dialect. When the husband called and the manstress answered the phone, once finding out that her husband had knowledge of her affair, Lisa showed no signs of her being worried. She in fact continued seeing this guy throughout the movie.

The twists and turns at first had me confused because i thought that Ray was two different people because i didn't quite process the fact that he thought Lisa had killed Marty at first, and that that was the reason he was getting rid of the body. So the ending for me wasn't really expected but it came together amazingly.

Act I- Set Up (establishes Mis-en-Scene)

The lady,Lisa, is talking to Ray, a guy whom she is having an affair with, about her husband/marriage

Plot Point 1- (establishes Dramatic Need of protagonist)

The husband of the wife, Marty, finds out about Lisa’s affair. He then hired a hit man to off his wife and her boy toy.

Act II- Confrontation (Dramatic Need plays out on screen)

There is a scene where Lisa and Ray are talking in a apartment which they share together. This scene sets up the next scene where the hit man shows pictures of Lisa and Ray, whom he apparently in the apartment, to Marty.

Plot Point 2- (major obstacle to protagonist's Dramatic Need)

After being given the money for his completed job, the hit man shots Marty who appears to have died. Ray goes to the bar where Marty was shot and takes him somewhere to be buried. There he realizes that Marty is still alive but buries him anyway.

Plot Point 3- (Climax- the final answer on whether the Dramatic Need is accomplished)

Ray found the gun, which the hit man left at the bar. He initially assumes that Lisa had tried to kill him. In suspicion of Lisa and Ray knowing that it was he who murdered Marty, the hit man attempts to kill the both of them.

Act III- Resolution (Leads to whether the Dramatic Need is achieved?)

After shooting Ray, the hit man targets Lisa who gets away and ends up shooting him instead.

Aftermath- (What has changed for the protagonist, his/her world as a result of Act I,II, III?)

Lisa is now widowed and lost her boyfriend all because of the affair that she had. She will more than likely be trialed for the killing of the hit man, but it might be overlooked and seen as self-defense.

Phoenix Models Casting Calls

Posted by Shakeelah Finney in Reading, Writing, and Rising Up - Rami on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 7:24 am
An ad/card for a casting call. Modelling gives people the oppurtunity to be pampered and beautified. It helps boost self-esteem and for the most part is fun.

Anybody looking to be in the world of fashion.

Everybody wants to be considered pretty and what better way than to have your face represent beauty in every aspect of the word.

If i were to do this again i would have a video incorporated with the casting card

My Rwanda. My Genocide.

Posted by Shakeelah Finney in American History - Laufenberg on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 2:43 pm
 DropBox: Link

For my project I thought that a web page would be more exciting because I could add any aspect of my topic in any form that I wanted; Pictures, videos, essay’s etc.  Specifically for my project I had chosen to write a few paragraphs giving the background and overall information on the topic of interest. I then created a video that showed some of the pictures and videos that were primary sources of the Rwanda genocide. I put everything together using iweb, so that it be easier to put everything in a C.R.A.P formation.

For the actual timing of the project was great. I had the project done six days before the actual due date, there fore was able to go over everything multiple times without worrying about the time rather or not there was enough of. This also enable myself to have a few of my peers look over the project and correct any mistakes that I may have been overlooked. The only fault that I ran into was the day I had to turn everything in. I was not in school, but I still managed to get my project in nonetheless.

The longest part of the project was they making of the video. The pictures weren’t to difficult to find, but trying to get video was almost impossible. I would find different pages with amazing video but I had no way of downloading them. This is partially what made me add the part of my website that had links to other pages. I wanted the viewer to get the entire feel of what had happened in Rwanda and what other way to do that than to have actual footage of the genocide taking place?

But, overall the project went pretty smoothly. I kept looking and I am satisfied with my final design. If I had to change anything about this project I would probably have interviews with some victims about the entire event. The interview would be to bring the audience closer to allow them to connect and hopefully feel what the victims have felt in Rwanda.

Building Marian Anderson

Posted by Shakeelah Finney in American History - Laufenberg on Monday, November 15, 2010 at 11:37 am

Building History: Marian Anderson Recreation Center

In 1911, the world’s very first public recreation centers created were named Happy Hollow Playground and Starr Garden. These Centers were created for school-aged kids with no specific goal at mind but with the foundation of these buildings came opportunities for getting involved for young children. As time went on the age range for which the building were created for had expanded. Today there are over 185 recreation centers in Philadelphia alone. Many buildings named after honorable people. One in particular is an African- American woman by the name of Marian Adnderson

Marian Anderson, daughter of John and Anna Anderson, had a major role in the history of African American artist. Marian, for those who don’t know was a contralto. Made famous through her singing she performed in concert and recital sometimes doing opera.  During the twentieth century, when racial and prejudice views were very well alive, Marian became a figure for African American artists trying to “get in where they fit in” as many artist would put it today. According to lkwdpl.org, Anderson had made many honorable achievements during her lifetime such as becoming the first black artist to perform at the Metropolitan Opera in N.Y,C as well as singing at the March On Washington for jobs and freedom.

Her impact on the world is still remembered today and in membrane of her many things have been created including different awards and buildings one building known as Marian Anderson Recreation Center.

Marian Recreation Center was built in 1954 in honor of Marian Anderson. The building being named after Anderson was destined for greatness. Nobody would understand the pentacles that this facility would reach until it was in its process. The recreation center became home to the first African American baseball team to go on a bond-storming trip. Traveling to 10 states in 13 days the team had the opportunity in first hand discovering how life for African Americans were during The Civil Rights movement. They were buzzing all over Philadelphia. And their proliferating reputation was only at its beginning. Besides sports, in 1993, Marian Anderson Rec. had housed an important meeting pertaining to the building of a strategy to save teachers’ jobs. Today the recreation is home to a boxing ring, batting cages, play ground, baseball/soccer field one indoor as well as outdoor basketball court and a public pool. As many would agree Marian Anderson has a positive role on the south Philadelphia community in keeping the kids off of the streets and into productivity.

Recyclable Dress

Posted by Shakeelah Finney in Advanced Art - Hull on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at 7:46 am
Hello my name is Shakeelah Finney. I am a junior attending Science Leadership Academy. For our Advanced art benchmark the entire class was given the assignment of making art out of recyclable material. After scanning through a variety of ideas i had finally chosen the recyclables jean and Capri-sun pouches. With these two elements i would create a dress.
The process for creating the dress was elongated but once i started i didnt stop until it was finished, meaning late nights or should i say early mornings. I would sometimes stay up until 5 am because i was so eager to get the dress done, which meant i was tired when school was in session, but in the end it was all worth it.
This was probably one of my most amusing benchmarks of my entire high school life. Mainly because it was something i got to choose and play around with. The possibilities for what to do were endless. I could've made anything. Something that described myself as a person. It wasnt like any other project where your told you have to do a report on this person, 12-font, double space, 2 pages. This benchmark spoke freedom.
This allowed everybody to be themselves and speak on things that mattered to them. Everybody had so many ideas which was evident at the finish of the benchmarks. The diversity was worth the world. We went from a tv out of cardboard box to a peace symbol made with condom wrappers or what not. And the meaning behind the art pieces were priceless. It spoke a lot on the class as a unison.
The most exciting part of the benchmark for me would have to be seeing everybody in action. Watching them as they build their art pieces and explain the meaning behind it. It proves that teens also think about the world around them. Not all the negative stuff you hear in the media or on the news.
