The goal of this project of this project to help the SLA student with laptop insurices. We  all have to pay $75 every year. We wanted to give it to someone so they won’t have to think about how they will get the money to pay it. We made it into a scholarship call scholarship  B . A . S . I . S (Bold and Successful Intelligent Scholars).  To make it funny for the student at SLA we fundraise and made a 2 part spirit week. I had up one week well my partner the 2nd week. This was to help people get into school spirit. This was to also help people be open and no judge anyone.

Fruit Salad

Ingredients

4 servings, serving size: 1 cup


2 apples, cut into bite-size pieces

2 oranges, peeled and break into pieces

1 lb strawberries

1 lb blueberries

3 Kiwifruit

2 Mango, peeled and cut into bite-size pieces

1/3 cup of sugar

2 tablespoon- balsamic vinegar

1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping (such as Cool Whip®), thawed


Process


  1. Refrigerate, 8-10 glasses in the Refrigerator

  2. Cut all fruits into 3rds or 4ths.

  3. Add all fruits into large bowl

  4. Then add 1/3 cup of sugar & 2 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar

  5. Gently Stir

  6. Next, wrap with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes to an hour

  7. Last, spoon fruits from bowl to the chilled glasses.

  8. add one serving of cool whip

  9. Enjoy!


Analysis:


The percent of the meal that is processed is 20%. We are using all organic fruit from whole food. This store is the only store that sell organic food only. That mean all the fruit are not processed and locally grown. But we do know that the balsamic vinegar, sugar, and cool whip are factory made. One person will be consuming 39 caloric per serving, 1.5 g total fat, 1 mg sodium, 6 mg potassium, and  5.1 g  Sugar. We would be able to process the food better because it doesn’t have a lot of genetically modified ingredients. It will also mean that when you was to work off the fat it will not be as hard. We would not have any protein in our meal but we will have your 9 serving of fruit everyday.

We think all our food (fruits) for our recipes were locally grown in the U.S, since we brought them from whole foods.The Whole food products come from local farmers across the country. The apples are prominently grown in Washington. The Oranges are grown in Florida, California, Texas and Arizona. The strawberries are grown in California. The blueberries are from Michigan and Indiana. The Kiwis aren’t from here but are grown in California. The mangos are also grown in California and Florida. Most of our fruits are from the South or West where there is nice weather all year around. The foods that travel the farthest would be the ones from California which are the Oranges, Strawberries, Kiwis and Mangos. Our fruits were organically grown from these farms. The fruits were organically processed and it’s better for the environment because there are no outside chemicals tainting the environment.

This meal will cost about $5.00 per serving which correlates to about 20$ for the 4 servings which would feed about 8 people. Our price for this healthy meal is more expensive but way healthier than a fast food “McDonalds Meal”. Fast Food restaurants use a lot of grease and fatty materials and processed foods that ultimately is unhealthy and will kill the consumers. There food is cheap and will cause great health problems vs. our slightly more expensive healthy alternative. Our food isn’t genetically modified or tampered with as it has very little preservatives and is organically grown. The businesses involved are Whole Foods cooperating with the local farms, also the Cool Whip® Product at General Foods. There aren’t any social ramifications of our meal choice because it is a healthy delicious meal that everyone could enjoy while sticking to a healthy way of living.

I learn a lot of about organic food and what we should eat and not eat . I believe my role in the food system is to learn and inform people on what's happing with how they know if the food is good for them and how they can fix there what they want to eat to be healthy in life. We read about people how are overweight in the U.S and where the places are. People tend to buy fast food when they are at work and it lunch time. People don't see that buying the food that's not made by yourself. One thing that I leaned in Mr.best class what organic food is. Organic food promote healthy eco-systems and prohibit the use of genetically engineered seeds or crops. For live animals they have be humanely treated animals by providing organically-grown feed and healthy. So of the thinks that I will be changing about what I eat is if i can't read and understand 5 ingredients than I should eat it.

So far in this quarter, I feel that I have learned a lot about food and food in the major industries. This was probably one of my favorite quarters because it's a topic that I can really relate to. In my opinion I don't have a major role in the larger food system, but I impact it in small ways. Major industries rely on the common people to but what they have to sell. They depend on us for their profit. That's why these industries use so much propaganda and advertisements to drive us in looking for food alternatives, healthy or not. I feel as though the biggest problem in the food industry is the amount of processed and unhealthy foods being sold to the U.S people. From 2 early assignments form earlier in this quarter, "Obesity in the US" and " Teach Every Child About Food(Ted Talk)" told us that 2/3 people that's about 66% of the U.S population is obese or will become obese. That is an extremely unhealthy way of living that could and will kill our people. It also stated the Japanese people of obesity is about 6%. This fact really stuck with me that the U.S knows that we are living so unhealthy but we still sell our people garbage. Changes in my diet that could make would be to eat foods that are less processed, not organic foods though because there too expensive (Simpsons Episode). If I just cut down on my sugary snacks and junk and instead eat more leafy foods than I would be living a healthier life. My diet would be better and I would be healthier. I am willing to make these changes but only by a little bit. I workout a lot and stay in shape. The sugars and cakes go against that, but I burn it off regularly. So I would limit my treats but not get rid of them. One of the "food rules" said you shouldn't deprive yourself, you want it eat it, just be smart.

The beginning .


“Mom! Mom! I got my letter.”


Having the letter in my hand looking at it. I was so happy, and enhances. it few like I was waiting for this letter for years when it was only 7 months. Most people like to be the one to open their letter but I was scared. I didn’t know if I was going to get into to the high school that I wanted. My mother walked in the room looking confused.


“What letter are you talking about ?”


“My Letter is here, my high school acceptance letters. I’m scared to open it can you open it for me ?”


I felt like I was going to cry when I gave her the letter.


“Sure sweetie, are you ready?” with a smile on her face.


“I remember when I got me my high school acceptance letters. It was years ago.”


“Mom can you tell me the story later and open the letter”


I want to say mom I don’t care,  just open the letter you're taking to long.  


“Okay okay” she said .


She started to tear the side of the envelope, that how she open it. She don’t like to open it from the top. She says that opening it from the side is much easier. She started read the paper out loud.


“Dear Ms.Jean Here are your five schools you applied. If you don’t get into any of the schools you will not be allowed to go to high school. You will Have to go get your blue papers and start look like for a job that will take for. ”


I didn’t want to start working yet, I wanted to go to school to get more education before looking for a job. I started to remember when My mom told me about when her mother was a kid and everyone have to go school. And if you didn’t go to school you would get a good job. But this was in the year 2041, and it 2094 and a lot of things changed. My mom looked at me and read the schools name.


“Reddy Science High - accepted”


I like that school but it’s not my dream High school.


“Union High school - accepted”


This school with one the the biggest school I applied to. I’m scared it might be too big.


“Mac Smith Math High - accepted Dream High - accepted ”

These school was my safety school. I know I would be able to get in. I have a 38 GPA and the highest GPA is 45.


“And last but not less the High school I know you want to get into Central High School -- accepted.”


My mom gave me the letter . I wanted to start crying but I was to in shock to say anything. Today was a day that I will never forget. Central High school is one of the top school, I get to live at school and meet new people. This is the only school I really wanted to go to. Everything change, the stories I would hear about how My great grandma would Went to college and got her master and still couldn’t get a new job. To me that sounds sad, I didn’t understand how that could happen.


First day !


First day of Central high school the school was so big. We drove 20 miles from the city to the suburbs. There wasn’t a lot of noise outside. It was like no one was there walking on the sidewalk. Looking out the window Waiting to see the my dream school My mom started to talk to me.


“Sweetie I’m really going to miss you. It’s going to be different without you being there with me.”


Tears started to come down her face.


“I remember when you was a baby, changing your diapers, doing your hair and making sure you ate your vegetables”


“imma miss you to mom,” I said.


“Now I want you to work hard not get into any trouble at the school. You know they will kick you out if you do. ” she said wiping her tears.  


“I know mom I know mom.”


We go up to the front out the school. When there were hundreds of kids just like me waiting to start their first day. I got out the car went to the truck and got my bags and suitcases. My mom came over and help me out. I looked at the mansion-like building. Everyone was walking through the big front door. As me and my mom follow everyone else , there was a Man wearing all black suit. He had blue eye and blond spiky hair.


“Welcome to Central high school my name is Eric. I’m the Dean of the school. I will be making sure you kids who are young adult now, get the best education. If you can come follow me, I will be showing where your kids can sign in, get there rooms, and their food card.”

I was so happy, I know I was going to make new friends. Their was 5 line so the students can sign in. I hope this don’t take all day. 30 mins passed I get to the front of the line.


“Next! ” Said Mike, it was on his name tag.


“Hey” replied back nervously


“What your name?”


“My name is Carly Jean”


“Here’s your Room number 307 here is you key, you will be rooming with two others girls. If you lose your key come to the office and they will give you a new one, but please try not to lose it. Here your food card. You get breakfast, lunch, and dinner free. You will have 2500 points for other foods like snacks throughout the year.”


“Thank you”


Eric walked in the room with this big smile on his face. His smile make you feel like you going to drop to the floor how pretty his smile is.


“You might being having the dean as your new father.” My mom turns to look at me.


“ Ill mom, don’t say that ...” I look at her like she crazy. I can’t see my mother being with the dean of Central high school the school. He probably makes more money than my mother plus some of the parents. I can see him in his big house with lots of cars.


“It looks like everyone is almost done here. This is the time when the student and parents say their goodbyes. If the parents have any question you can come to me call the school or email me. I will answer any of your question. We will be seeing you in three months for visiting day.” Eric said .


“My baby is all grown up now. You can call me anytime to talk. If you need anything call. I love you Carly Jean.” saying While my mom hugged me so hard that I felt that I couldn’t breath. I tried to move my arm up so I can hug her back.


“Mom I can’t move.”


“Im sorry” I pick my arm to give her a real hug. After the hug my mother gave me a kiss on the forehead. She started to walk away from me. I remember I didn’t say I love you to her . “Mom I love you!” I yelled not caring who seen me.


“Okay student everyone grab a map of the school and go to Central Living building there are 10 floors in that building. Whatever is the first number to your room number you will be the floor your room is located. After finding your room you will have until 1:30 until we will meet at the ballroom.” Eric told us.


I was scared I didn’t know anyone in the school. I was hope the my roommate was going to be nice and fun to be around. I was so nervous that I was thinking of how I was going to say Hey to them . Hey my name is Carly Jean I'm your roommate. Or Wassup my name is Carly Jean. I also wanted to know if my roommate was going to me all freshman or mix of classes? Their was so many question in my mind. I follow everyone to central living building. There were elevator and stairs . I didn’t like the elevators because one day I got stuck in between the 3rd and 4th floor of my mothers jobs. She works as a Lawyer at so fancy building. After that day I never want to get on the elevator. So I took the stair as some people waited for that elevator to come back down.


When I got to the 3rd floor I started to look for my room. The hallway was long and narrow, It felt like I was walking for year looking for my room. I finally found my room 307. I used my key to open the door. I felt like I was a grown person. I didn’t have my mom here, and i didn’t know anyone. One I open the door I see a tall girl with long black hair. She was so pretty that i felt like the school was fill with beautiful people. Looking at the girl she made me feel like I wasn’t as pretty as I was People always told me that I was pretty but looking that her she made me feel avenger looking.


“Hey my name is Carly Jean.” I said not knowing if she was going to be nice or mean to me. I was hoping we like the same thing so we can get alone.


“Hey Carly nice to meet you! My name is Helen.” Said Helen with a big smile on her face. She even had straight teeth.


“Nice to meet you Helen.”


“So I picked my bed it’s this one” she point to the bed on the left of the room. There was three twin size bed in the room. Three working spaces with lamps and a flat screen t.v, they even have refrigerator. One bed was on the left side against the wall that the one Helen pick. One bed was in the back right next to the window I wanted that one. I wanted to look outside and see everywhere. I come see the fields and the mean building where we are going to be learning at.  The other bed was on the right side it was against the wall. We all had desks next to our beds. all the beds look alike and so do the desk.


“I think I’m going to pick the bed right to the window.” I said to Helen as I walk to the bed.


“Are you ready to take the test?” asked Helen as she unpack her things.


“Ugh I’m scared I want to do well on this test .” I replied


“You're going to be fine just don’t think about it too much.” she said smiling.

I started to unpack my things as I see a short girl with glasses on walk through the door. As she walk in,

“Hey everyone ! My name is Rita”


“Hey Rita my name is Helen”


“Hey Rita my name is Carly”


“We pick I bed already the only bed left is the right side one.” I said pointing to the bed.


“Hey you guy It’s almost 1:30. We have 15 mins, we should leave around leave in ten minutes.” Helen pointed out to us.


“Rita you ready for the test their about to give us” I asked


“I don’t know, I didn’t know what type of test it would be? I’m nervous”as she unpack her thing on to her bed.


“I know I’m not going to finish unpacking right now.” Helen said.


“Same here” rita and I said at the same time.


“Let stated going to the Ballroom before we end up being late.” Rita said


When we got to the ball room everyone was taking their seat. Helen, Rita and I sat right next to each other. Eric walked in the room and went to the stadium.


“Alright everybody take a seat we’re about to get started. So as many of you know you’re going to be taking a test. This test does not affect anything just let us know what you know already. Try your best and we will help you become smarter. Goal is to make sure that everyone has a IQ of 1800 or more.”  Eric said.


“That high number for the IQ test” Rita look worried saying it.


“The test will start after this speech. You will be ok, just try your best. Everyone will get a going to a class room. the teacher will come and count the people to go to the classroom. ” Eric said


A teacher came over to where I was sitting and started counting us off. The teacher walk us to the classroom . We all sat down, they gave us a the test and pencils.


“Here the test no talking. If you don’t know something you can skip it, It will have all the time you  need to finish the test. Good Luck! ” The teacher told us .


The test was a package, I felt like I wasn’t going to finish this all today. I started to look in the test to see what i know in the test. It really wasn’t that bad. I got a lot done in about 40 mins, but most of the people felt the classroom. There was some question I couldn’t answer so I got up and walk to the teacher gave her the pencils and test.


“Ok your done you can go get some lunch and class will start 2 days from now.” The teacher said quietly .


I turn to see if Rita and Helen was still taking the test, but only Helen was in the room. So I walk in the cafe, think to myself, if I did good on this test even if I there no good or bad grade for this I will still want to be very smart. I finally got to the cafe. I walked up to the lunch line to pick something to eat . They had everything that you can think about from pizza to hotdog. Everything you wanted was here. I got a hotdog and an apple juice. I started to look for somewhere to sit.


“Carly ! Carly over here, I have a seat for you ” Rita was yelling and waving her hand.


I walked over to her and took a seat.


“Hey how long you been here ?” I asked


“I got here 5 minutes ago. They have everything here, I ever have so much food and one place.” Rita


“I know right! Well we have two day to look around and see everything here.”


“Oh yes, I want to see everything. I hear they have a pool, I think we should go swimming.”


“That sound funny!” I said


Later that day I was walking around that until I got lost. These hallway all look the same after a while. But I seen Eric walking so I started to walk behind I didn’t want to yell. But he walk in this room. The room was filled with computer and scientists.


“They kids are so dumb . They would be able to get 1800 on the IQ test. Do you have what I need? ” Eric said looking mad.


“Yes , Sir . I’m done make the GS shot. This is will make sure they will get higher than 1800 on the IQ test.” a scientist said with a smile on his face.


“Good we will started tomorrow! These kids are not going to make my school look bad .” as he started to walk back to me. I started to look for somewhere to hide. I was behind the door. I was still lost and I didn’t want to ask Eric after finding out that he going to give us shot to make us smarter. I started to think the I wasn’t smart . But I didn’t know where I was at so I follow Eric until I got to the cafe again. I ran to my room, where Helen and Rita was there.


“Hey where you been ?” Helen asked


“I got lost and guess what I seen Eric and some scientists, and they made a shot called the GS shot. It’s how the students get smarter. I don’t like the idea of this. What if we die, or what if we get something for it . I don’t like the sound of this. Eric keep saying that we was not smart and we all need the shots.” I said.


“What that not right! “ Helen said.


“I think we should tell everyone what happening.” Rita said .


“Yes, but we need to show them the GS shot.” I replied .


“We will need to go to the lab and get the the shot” Helen said.


“We should go to the lab tonight and go get the GS shot I want everyone to know about it,” It started to make me mad that he call me dumb. I was one of the told people in my class. “ let go right now because I think he is not in there now” I said



“Your right let go” Rita said putting her shoes on.

We all went downstair to the stairs to the lab. I looked inside to see if there was anyone in there but there wasn't. We all slipped up to look for something call the GS shot.


“I found it” Rita yelled.


“Lets go” I said.


We ran up stair but in to our room, locked up our door.


“Tomorrow I going to call the police and tell the school.” Helen said.


“Yes let go to sleep.” Rita said.


In the morning we got when to go get something to eat people was talking about the meeting with Eric. After eating Eric starting his meeting in the cafe


“Goodmorning student, today I’m going to be talking to you about a shot the you're going to have to get. This shot will make sure you don’t get sick, ” said Eric


“You're lying!” said Rita.


“Yea you're lying!” said Helen.


“We know what's the shot is for to get us smarter you say that we was the dumbest student. And I have the shot with me.” I said  Showing everyone “It’s call the GS shot. He made scientists make it so we can get smarter. But we don’t know if it can hurt us or even kill us.” I said.


“How did you get that ?” said Eric.


The police walk over.


“Do you know Illegal for shot like this ? You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you. Do you understand the rights I have just read to you?” said the police officer walking away with Eric.


“Yes we did it now we can learn without no chemicals in our body,” Rita said.

For my english class we made to pick away that we was going to answer “What is the role of individuals in creating and sustaining change?”. I pick to make an audio because It will help answer the question, “What is the role of individuals in creating and sustaining change?”.  Most people are good at writing how they feel, fact, or making story, but I feel when I write it is harder for me to get what I want to say. It’s harder because I don’t know how I’m going tell the information with other repeating over and over the same things.  When I’m writing sometime I start to get off topic and that a way you can lose the read, and I don’t want that. But when I talk about it I can give you the facts that you need and now get off topic.

This audio will be a question and answer this will help some some of the answer about the main question. To answer the question I will give an example of what creating and sustaining change is so people can know what I’m talking about. I will bring up an issue that is happening now or did happen and talk about it . Then I was give my opinion and other so I can show “What is the role of individuals in creating and sustaining change?” is. I will also talk about the people I mention in my speech. I will give fact on what they did and how they did it. The will show people how the change happen .

Something that we all know is the guy who set himself on fire so he can make a change. Change can happen in a lot of ways, but every change that we was teach about in school or seen on the news was started but someone. Most people are scared to stand up for their right until someone else stand up by them self. So when I was ask “What is the role of individuals in creating and sustaining change?” my answer would be Yes we do need a individuals  to help create a change. This is shown in a lot of way. For example Gay right, the right to sit anywhere on the bus. Most people are scared to break the rules because they don’t know what’s going to happen to them. So that why people don’t want to but when some do for something good then other will be there for them.

Comparing "Taming Of The Shrew" to “Pretty Women”

The play “Taming Of The Shrew” , it tells the reader about what love is all about back in the 1600’s. In the book there was a young lady name Katherine. She will be getting married to a guy name Petruchio. He want her for the money that she will give him. 

In the 1990 movie “Pretty Woman” Richard Gere as Edward Lewis needs an escort for some social events. He hires a beautiful prostitute, Julia Roberts as Vivian Ward, who he met on Hollywood Blvd. Petruchio and Julia Roberts’ character are different because their stories take place in different years. However, these situations are similar because they both agree to be somebody’s lover. For Petruchio, he is not a prostitute, but he got paid to get married to Katherine.

In this quote,  Petruchio describes why he really came to Padua. He wanted a rich wife, and he didn’t care how they look or how old they were. This shows He doesn’t care about the women he’s going to marry. He’s only in it for the money. made the guy would get pay to get married to the lady of their choice.

In the movie, there a scene with Edward on the phone with Philip talking about meeting up with a business associate. Edward is looking at Vivian in the tub as he on the phone. Vivian is also singing with headphone on.

“Edward, I know a lot of nice girls.” said Philip

This Show Edward has a plane to us Vivian love for other things. Most people don’t hire an escort to be with them at a business. He only did this because he didn’t want to be alone when he went to the meeting.

In this quote, after Petruchio got Katherine he knew that he could do anything now. He was late to his own wedding. In Petruchio mind he knew that he won the challenge. The challenge was to see if he could get married to Katherine. This show that the person that did something to go someone love changes after they get what they want.

In the movie, there a scene with Edward takes Vivian to a pole game. This is where Edward show off Vivian to people he knows. Now people are starting to ask question like where did  you meet Vivian.

This show that Edward didn't care what people will say when they found out that she was a hired a escort to show off to people. He knows that he have alot of money and he can pay her anything. This show that Edward and Petruchio and the same because they don't care what the person their with thinks. The will hurt their feeling. Most people can see this in the movie "Pretty Woman" and "Taming Of The Shrew" are the same when It come to the guys.

Humanities Final Portfolio 2013

“I’m an individual, yeah But I’m part of a movement. My movement told me be a consumer and I consumed it. They told me to just do it I listened to what that swoosh said, Look at what that swoosh did See it consumed my thoughts. This is a song from Macklemore called wings.” (#Journal #35 English ) When I listen to this song the first thing that came to my mind was English and History class. It showed that we can use poetry and fact to make a point. Poetry is the best way to tell people how you feel like my High School poem.  “Being the smoothest guy that you know if you want that girl all you have to do is give her that look and say I want to be with you I think I love you. Knowing that after saying these words she will do anything for you, she like a salve and you’re her master.” (High School) I had to share this show to my class. The people are alway being told what to do and I want people to see that they a plan already for you . But they don’t even know it something. People are always told what to do. We work on an op-ed and mine was about LGBT right. In my op-ed It was about how we are being told what to do and how to be in life. “Slavery is a system under which people are treated as property to be bought and sold, and are forced to work. Slaves can be held against their will from the time of their capture, purchase or birth, and/or deprived of the right to leave. Look at us now, we worked to get our rights but we still are treating people like slaves. Lesbian, gay, and bisexual people are still being treated like slaves because others are against their marriage.” (Op-ed).


This year I feel that I learn the most about the about how life can be view. How people don’t get to do what they want. We read a book call  Thing fall apart. The main character was a person person who made the rules I wrote the last chapter which say “They came and talk to us about making are place better but it not doing nothing . We should stay with the things we know. Just like my 2nd wife son Nwoye when with them. He not my son. No son of mine is going with the missionary. After that I sent for my 5 sons and they came and sat in my obi. I told them "You have all seen the great abomination of your brother I will only have a son who is a man, who will hold his head up among my people. If any one of you prefers to be a women, let him follow Nwoye now while I am alive so that I can curse him. If you turn against me when I am dead I will visit you and break your neck." (Chapter 26) People feel that they need to stay with the thing the know. If the don’t the feel like they are doing something wrong. That not true all the time. We also read a story call Lord of the flies. These story show that even as kids they alway have someone tell them what to do. Just like when “ People find out that bad thing will happen if they don’t let piggy be the leader, and instead, they pick Jack.” (LOTF). We set up the world like this anything we do. There was a people who told us to do it. Their the one who are making us follower. I one of my journal was about a quote “The degree of civilization in a society can be judged by entering its prisons” (#journal #42 English) This show that everything that we do or who we are as people can tell if people will like us or hate us. I want you to think about this do I do what others do ? Am I an individual? Do I judge people by how they look, date , or doing ?

Kids Vs Adults

Kids are changing up language everydays. The make up words that are call slang. It’s like there cord to talk to other kids. But when the start to talk to an adult it change. They sound like they when to school and very educated.  Everyday I see kids talk like they don’t speak english. Yo wha you doin’? Nuffin chillin abou to go to class. Wha class you have? Why u askin all them question? You ratched. YOLO! That dead. You don’t have any pics. To Adults they are asking themself what are y’all saying, speak some english.

One day in math class. We were all sitting to talking to our classmate doing math. Our teacher Mrs. Thompson came up to my table. Ask me Lala What dose bars mean?? Everyone in the class started to laugh.  I hear everyone say that word but I don’t know what y’all mean. I know y’all not using it like music note. Ron said Bar in a line from a rap. It you got bars then it about rapping.

Everyone one of my friends says that they don’t talk like to talk to the parents like that  like my friend  Emily she told me this. I'm in 5th grade, watching Full House on my couch. My dad's in the basement, and my mom's in the kitchen. I have a bookbag filled with homework, which i ignore. "Em!" mom shouts. "Yeah?" i respond, eyes glued to the tv. "It's 7 and you still haven't started your homework?" muting the tv i yell back "My bad! starting it now."  unzipping my bag my mom sits next to me. "I'd appreciate it if you'd stop saying 'my bad'." "why? i'm not curisng." im confused. "i know, it just... makes you sound.... i dont know...." i know where she's going with this so i interrupt and say "okay mom, i get it. sorry." she smiles and goes back to the kitchen.

What I am trying to say is we change the way to thing to people. We never talk to the older people that same. But we talk to are friend in code.

What Pipeline ? Monologues.

​In my 10th grade world history class, we have to learn about the keystone XL pipeline. I had a partner name Charles. Charles and I had research about that Pipeline. After learning about the keystone XL pipeline we made 5 monologues in different point of views to show our feeling about the pipeline effecting the world and these people. I hope you enjoy the monologues.
​Monologue 1
Who!? Oh yeah yeah, send him in Rachel, ok.

(Pause)
(A young man in a freshly pressed suit enters, very nervously)

James! Just the man I wanted to see! How’s the wife? And the kids? Beautiful, beautiful here, take a seat son take a seat we have much to talk about you and I. In trouble? No no no James of course not! Trouble... Bah no no. As you know James Senior executive Barry Gordmon passed last week, god bless his soul, and um well I’ll be frank James we need that position filled. No no not replacing him James, just a placeholder. Well you see we’re in a very critical state right now, we’re on the verge of building this monumental structure that’s going to change lives but we can’t do it without a Senior executive. So whatta ya say?

(The speakers face goes from a perky smile, to a look of bewilderment)

No!?
What the hell do you mean no!? I’m throwing a promotion right at your damn face and you tell me no! No no don't say anything son, I see now that you’re an ungrateful idiot who doesn’t know a golden opportunity when his puny little eyes see one. We could have those Americans by the damn balls and you want to pass up this oppurtunity because of your ‘morals’.

(Both persons are shocked at the sudden outburst, there is a pause)

I’m-- I’m sorry son therapist always said I need to get my anger under control, I implore you to reconsider James, an oppurtunity like this doesn’t come around everyday.
You’re dismissed James.

Monologue 2

Why is Mr.Lock always walking around the classroom clapping his hand all the time?
Please don’t call on me please don’t call on me.
(Mr.Lock calls on the speaker)  
“Oh, um the keystone pipeline? Yeah, I heard about that on the news Mr.Lock. ”
Elaborate?! Why did I even open my mouth...
“Well the news lady was talking about a pipeline that is sending oil to Texas . They say the pipeline is in Steele City. I don’t know all the details about it but they say that this can help with the lack of jobs. I think it a good thing right?”

It can do all of that ? I don’t want that in my city the air will change and then we all going to die. This is how you know that people don’t care about their life. Do the people who are doing this know about it? Hold up let me look it up and see what can happen the world
(Open the computer and start typing)
OMG!
(Looks up from her computer to talk to Mr.Lock )
Here an article about it that say “To meet an 80 percent reduction in carbon emissions by 2050, significant changes must occur in our transportation sector, which
is now responsible for 30 percent of global warming pollution in the United States.” How are they going to that if they are making a pipeline that send dirty oil, No one don’t really come to my city. I live at 30th  Steele City Avenue, Steele City, NE. I live right in the mix of things. I think most of the people know how these ass hole are say that it’s good because its more jobs but not care about the earth.  What did you say Mr.Lock?
(Class bell rings, speaker jumps up from his seat)

Monologue 3

Hello little friend, won’t you stay for a while and talk to an old friend?
These are troubling times. The world is changing and I don’t think it’s for the better. These people don’t care about my world. Everyday they make or do something that makes me hate them more and more everyday. How did we go from homey little caves to obnoxious ‘sky scrapers’ everywhere? And!!! If that wasn’t enough … they started to build the pipeline call umm i think it call Keystone Pipeline . Yes ! that right the keystone xl pipeline. This pipeline is to help (when they say help make quotation mark)

us to have more oil. But the oil is tar sand oil. It’s one of the most dirtiest oils that known. Most people don’t know the difference from tar sand oil and regular oil that we used. I feel that more of the people need to see what this oil can do to my world. I would like to see them survive for a while but they way they are treating my world the world will end by 2050. My little friend your going to die with them. That the most sad part of thing.

Monologue 4
Hey doc, I’ve been fine yeah… the night terrors have stopped what you said really helped. Oh yeah the knee? It’s fine I’m off the crutches now, yeah; they said soon enough I should be able to run again. I missed being on my feet ya know, humping equipment back and forth, that’s what they called it when you carried things, humping it men will be men huh. Oh yeah most of us hated it, but I loved those long marches. That’s where I met Sandra ya know. She was a rookie a green collar she still had that fire in her eyes, that fire that said she was proud of fighting for her country. Hell, everyone else fire dimmed a long time ago, some lost it after their first time they killed a enemy, others when the sand storms rolled in and it felt like we were cut off from the rest of the world, trapped. The sandstorms had a way of making you think what the hell you were doing out there away from your family. We never said anything but we all had this... vibe this mutual sense of doubt as we marched along through those barren lands.
No… well yes I had my own doubts at times but I loved it there not the killing but the friends I had and marches we did talking about things a million miles away from that damn war.
Sandra? She was a rookie I could tell because she carried everything according to protocol see if you’ve served for a long time you would know when you marched some things are just unnecessary and heavy so you just leave them at the base and tell your officer you ‘forgot’ them but not the rookies, they brought everything. Every single thing. I remember talking to her and telling her that she really didn’t need to carry all that equipment it would just tire her out.
What!  Was I… No I wasn’t attracted to her we were soldiers comrades, brothers and sisters in arm, we didn’t have time for anything else, we got close but no… we were…soldiers that’s it… I mean let’s not talk about that doc, please.

Anything please, I just can’t think about her anymore I keep reliving…those bastards took her away from me.
Keystone? No, I haven’t heard of that. Canadians? I fought with a Canadian once, the guy was a tough motherfucker, 3 purple hearts and he still wants to serve, Barry was his name. A pipeline eh, finally America getting back its independence I’ll tell you what maybe with this oil we won’t be fighting those damn battles overseas. Maybe if this pipeline had been built Sandra would still be alive, maybe we would have met somewhere maybe we would have gotten married maybe she loved me doc,  maybe she fucking loved me like I loved her.

On a summer afternoon I walked into my apartment with a view of my living, dining room/kitchen looking like a jungle. As I walk through the door, I was feeling exhausted from my big day at school . It was back-to-school night. I was dragging my feet.  My dad decided to tell me in his deep voice "Oh you're going to have to move all your things in your room. we are painting the walls tomorrow." After he said that all of these questions ran through my mind. Why are we doing this now? I'm tired, can I go to sleep? oh my god I have homework. Then he added on "we have to move the things in the living room, your room, your brothers room , and last but not less my room." I replied "All this tonight!"

Then I walked into my room looking that my queen size bed, just wanting to throw myself on the bed and taping a nap. But instead I looked that my mother built in closet with a broken door with a mirror. The closet is big it takes one fourth of my room. After look that myself and putting my book bag down on the corner of my room where my window is.  I dragging my feet to the living room about to ask my dad " Can I work on my room while you and mommy work on the living room? We will get done faster ."
"No we all should work on the living room so when that done we can find a place to put y'all things." he replied to me. I thought to myself then we going to be here all night! I have homework and I need to sleep, I’m tired. I took a big breath and said “okkayyy....” My face change as a Cheetah running; but i keep my cool and help out. This always happening when they don’t understand that we can be done faster. I think that most out the time people hear what I’m saying but they don’t listen to what I’m saying. I hate when that happen to me. When  that think they are right all the time. I just want them to see my point of view. I feel to need to say think sometime my idea might help everyone not just your idea. After 5 mins my mom told me to work on my room. I wanted to say I just told dad that but he said no. My dad decided to tell me my mom was right . That I have school tomorrow. I started to laugh because I told my dad this. But they don’t listen to me. I think it because I’m young and they think they are right 90% of the time.

But the thing was that it remind me of when my mother tried to changed how her room. She wanted to me to rotate her bed 90 degrees. I thought to myself I’m going to die. The bed weighted like a truck. That day I want to stay in my room. But She keep call my name like a song “La La La La La La”. She didn’t think about how she going to open her closet; or where she going to put her T.V. Her bed was bigger than my room. I started to tell her that it would not work (but everyone know that it going to be a verbal argument).  
“Mom the bed is not going to fit when I rotate it because you're not going to get into your closet. I don’t think this is a good idea maybe you should leave it how it is.”  I told my mom. She looked that me “You're just saying that because you don’t want to move it.”  She relied
“ I would a meant that I don’t want to more it but if I more the bed it’s really not going to fit and If I rotate it you can’t tell me that we should move it back! I not going to do all of that .” I said nicely
“Well ok then when your dad comes he going to more it how I want it and I will see with my eyes if it fit or not.” She said looking that me like I’m just saying it because I don’t want to do it. But I really was telling the truth. Then thought I don’t want to do something I will always tell you the truth about the problem you have.

For a while I've been putting up information about bullying. If you didn't get to read the click here for Blog1 and click here for Blog 2.

My change is to let people know about what they are doing to people. I believe that I will let people know by going to some classes in SLA like Mrs. Dunn Class and telling people about bullying. I think a lot of people don’t think about what they are saying to people. Maybe if I tell them to think about what they say, then they might stop bullying people so much. That how I will make a change.

I found out a lot about bullying by doing this project. I found out that a lot of people that had been bullied or seen people get bullied start to bully other people. This help me understand why bullying was a big and everyone needed to know about this. That’s why I made a video about bullying. I only thing I ask is to please stop and think about what you are saying to people and doing to people.

Now since you know what bullying is, I am going to tell you why I want you to know about it. I am telling you because most people don’t think about what they are saying to others. I been bullied and I don’t like it. Now I think about what I say to people and I try to say pleasant things to everyone. I try and say "hey" to everyone I know. I do all of this because you never know if you made someones day by just saying "hi" or "you look nice today."

I have been bullied in the past. I was one of the tallest girls in my school, so people would make fun of me for it. But what they didn’t know was that it hurt me. I explained this to adults and to hear that they understood, made me stronger. But most kids can’t do that. They might think that people really don’t like them when it's not true and they will, most likely, hurt themselves. I think that bullying is not the right way to go in today's society. If your reading this then you should do something about it. Be kind to people and think about what you say to people. This could be happening to any one you love.

You and the world

I am doing this project in English class about you and the world. It’s about problems around the world. So I have to find issues that happen in the world. My issue is bullying. Bullying is one of the things that happen a lot in the world and I want to tell you all about it. Then I would like to see if we can find a solution. If you asking yourself how is bullying an issue? Or what is bullying well today is your lucky day I’m going to tell you.

According to www.stopbullying.gov “Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. Bullying includes actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose.”  To me bullying is when you are not repeating someone.

There is different type of bullying. There is bullying by saying something example are:

·      Teasing

·      Name-calling

·      Threatening to cause harm

After that there is Physical bullying:

·      Hitting/kicking/pinching

·      Spitting

·      Taking or breaking someone’s thing

Last but not less that there is social bullying:

·      Telling other children not to be friends with someone

·      Spreading rumors about someone

·      Embarrassing someone in public

These are just the beginning with bullying. Bullying can be even harmful.

Bullying happen at school, online, and even where you live (in that neighborhood). A lot of parents don’t even know that it happen in their neighborhoods.  Some bullying can happen at home. But most of it is happening online no because of social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and many more. Your phone can even be one of the things that can help others bully you. Example by text message or e-mail, and more. There is way to find out if you that bully or not maybe you can take a test. If you a teacher you can make thing a class game.

Hello today I'm going to tell you about negative space. What is negative space? Negative space is a cut out part in the picture. Look at the bird picture, do you see how the black is in the back. The blue was the one I cut out. I used half of the blue paper to cut out the bird and place it to look black and blue (a pattern). That how I know its negative space.
