If Gone Girl was a Wes Anderson Film

Posted by Charles Velazquez in Reel Reading · Giknis · C Band on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 12:40 am

In order to convert “Gone Girl” into a Wes Anderson film we had to change a lot of the cinematic  and theatrical elements of the film. We chose to do this by creating a storyboard of the scene where Amy returns home as we felt that it was one of the most powerful scenes in the film. In order for the scene to truly be recreated in Wes Anderson fashion we had to change the color palette. The palette used in “Gone Girl” is a Fincher’s palette which is a lot of blues and yellows in order to set the dreary mood of the film. Wes Anderson uses a pastel color palette and bold colors  in most of his films. So we used reds, pinks, lighter blues and other colors that we felt fit with Wes Anderson’s style.

At the beginning of the scene we get a shot of Nick on the couch looking confused about the commotion occuring outside . Nick is in the first two thirds of frame and we get a side profile shot of him. One trademark in Wes Anderson films is his use of symmetry in his shots, so we decided to have Nick look directly at the camera and make him centered. This allowed us to have Nick be completely symmetrical in the frame. We also changed the couch color and background, as the couch was dull yellow. We wanted the couch to stand out so we changed the colors of the couch to red and blue. We also drew a window behind Nick in order to continue with the symmetry of the shot.

Wes Anderson uses an array of different shots in his films as well, with some of his favorites being medium and close up shots. He uses medium shots to establish the setting of his scenes and uses close ups to convey an emotion of a character. The part with the most emotion in the scene we chose, is when Amy gets out the car wearing a white dress covered in blood and pretends to cry. So we recreated that frame by doing a close up of Amy as she is staring at Nick. Wes Anderson also utilizes transition slides in Films that has Bold lettering. We created our own transition slide where we wrote AMY in bold font and colored it in red, we the slide to transition from a close up of Amy falling into Nick’s arms to a wide shot of Amy in Nick’s arms.

Overall converting a scene from “Gone Girl” to Wes Anderson’s style was not as difficult as we thought it would be. Since “Gone Girl” is a  thriller with a complex storyline and Wes Anderson’s style is more catered to adventure/comedy films. We wanted to keep the general storyline of the film and change more of the cinematic features of “Gone Girl”. Wes Anderson usually sticks to the same trends when it comes to the plots of his films. Where everything ends well for the characters in the film unlike in “Gone Girl” as the movie ends on a bad note.

At the beginning of the year when I was brainstorming capstone ideas, I made a goal to learn more about carpentry. In order to accomplish this goal, I decided to build furniture for students at SLA. I chose two students to build furniture for, one of the students wanted me to build them a footrest and the other one wanted me to build a bookshelf. In order for them to be involved in the process and give them something they actually will like, I asked them about the specific features they want for their items. I essentially treated them like clients and had meetings with them, where we discussed different things pertaining to the design until they tested the final products. The final products were a 17”x10”x6” footrest that was filled with Nu-foam and a 47”x22” bookshelf that they are going to pick up once they are ready to. From building the furniture I can say that I accomplished my goal as I learned a lot more about carpentry. I learned how to biscuit joint two pieces of wood together, how to upholster a cushion and a multitude of other things. I overall had a good time creating the furniture for my capstone.

Best 2fer

Posted by Charles Velazquez in English 3 · Pahomov · B Band on Monday, May 1, 2017 at 1:41 pm
                                                      The Decline of Advertising

Intro:
Advertisements are the best way to display a product. The best ads attracts viewers’ attention and gets them to buy the item shown. With the introduction of new technology in the last decade, the advertisement game has change for the worst. With phones, computers and the internet it is easier to get an advertisement to the consumer, but the quality of those advertisements has went down as companies can just spam out ads. This is different from ads back in the day as companies had to make the advertisement count because they will only have a couple ad spots on television. The introduction of new technology has made advertisement lazier and a nuisance than the ones created before it.

Mobile Game Ads:

Advertisements in mobile games are sometimes annoying. They can stunt the gameplay as some game developers do not allow the game to be played for a couple hours until  an ad is watched. These type of ads are called rewarded ads; a video is watched and then the player is rewarded with lives or in game currency. Usually the advertisements displayed would just be a video of the gameplay. These ads are most of the time generic and shows viewers that not much effort was put into them. In order to account for the lack of quality, the advertisement have small X’s making it hard to exit out of ads. This causes people to accidentally click on the ads

Pop Up Ads:

The most hated form of advertisement on the internet is the pop up ad. These ads occur when a person gets on a website and then a random advertisement pops up. The advertisement is not apart of the website, instead it is a whole new tab. Sometimes these advertisement can give out malware and viruses if you click on it. The creator of pop up advertisement stated, “I’m sorry. Our intentions were good.” The Internet allowed advertisements to be forced onto people, so it doesn’t matter how good the ad is. People are going to see them regardless, they may even accidently click on the ads.

Old Advertisement:

Before the internet, one of the best places to advertise was the newspaper. Newspaper advertisement did not intrude on the articles and conveyed a straightforward message. They did not try to trick people into accidently doing something like mobile game advertisement. Overall, they were a simple and effective way to advertise. Though internet advertising may be more effective now, they do not have the same quality as newspaper ads. With even some mobile games false advertising, making their games look like a first person shooter, when in actuality it is a tower defense game.

Conclusion:

Overall, people may think that this is no big deal but they don’t see that this reflects where society is at the moment. Where people value fast advertisement over quality. This is neither a good or bad thing, it just makes advertisement over saturated and harder to make something stand out. Advertising is just adapting, and in return the consumer is adapting as well. Seeing advertisements as a nuisance instead of a pleasurable clip of a fascinating new product.

Why this is my best 2fer:

I think this is my best 2fer because I had a nice and simple thesis that is arguable but not cluttered. Unlike some of my other thesis that were kind of complicated and did not have a straightforward objective. I also made sure that my work was peer edited and not have simple mistakes. In my other 2fers I had errors that I did not catch before submission.

The Purpose of Marriage

The play, “The Taming of the Shrew” displays marriage as a priority for the men that it  follows. As two suitors Petruchio and Lucentio beat out other suitors in order to marry Baptista’s daughters Bianca and Katherine. Even though they have differing reasons; Petruchio, in order to obtain the wealth Katherine has and for Lucentio, to obtain the one he loves. It depicts the role marriage has in the Elizabethan era. In “Crazy, Stupid, Love”, the main character Cal after learning that his wife (Emily) wants a divorce, meets a guy named Jacob who is bachelor. Jacob teached Cal how to pick up women in order to get over his wife. With that said, as the movie goes on he realizes that his wife is the only girl he wants and wounds up fighting to get his wife back. Jacob as the movie goes on met a woman named Hannah who he started instead of just having a mindless one night stand. The play and movie both has to do with marriage/courtship but shows as time went on woman obtained more ownership in who they want to marry.

“Content you, gentleman. I will compound this strife. ‘Tis deeds must win the prize, and he of both That can assure my daughter greatest dower Shall have my Bianca’s love. Say, signior gremio, what can you assure her.”(Act 2, Scene 1, line numbers 365-)

In this scene Lord Baptista is talking to two potential suitors; Gremio and Tranio, for his daughter Bianca. Tranio is dressed as Lucentio, the man who actually wants to marry Bianca. Baptista wants to see what these men has to offer his daughter and him, promising Bianca’s hand in marriage to the richest man. This scene shows how marriage was arranged and the daughter has no choice in the matter. Marriage is seen as a business transaction by Baptista instead of a badge of love. In order to marry Bianca, Lucentio goes as far as becoming Bianca’s tutor to get closer to her and have tranio play as him. Showing that this marriage is really important to him and that he truly does like Bianca. In order to get her though he has to convince Baptista that the marriage will benefit him as well.

Screenshot 2017-04-23 at 2.46.34 PM.png

In this scene Cal and Emily are about to go into a parent teacher conference for their child Robbie. Cal confesses that he hates himself for not fighting for her even after finding out Emily cheated in him. He states,” I should’ve fought for you. You fight for your soulmate. At least that's what our thirteen-year-old tells me.” This scene shows the emotion connection that Cal and Emily has. Unlike the Taming of the Shrew suitors, Cal is already married but the way he confesses to her can be compared. Cal married Emily because he loved her while Lucentio had to prove himself to the father before he was able to marry Bianca. The movie reflects that in the modern age women have way more control of choosing who they want to marry than what is reflected William Shakespeare’s play.

"Marry, so I mean, sweet Katherine, in they bed And

therefore, setting all this chat aside, Thus in plain term: your father hath consented That you shall be my wife."

(Act 2, Scene 1, line numbers)

This part of the play has to do with Katherine and the suitor her dad has allowed to marry her, Petruchio. Petruchio is trying to train Katherine into becoming the perfect wife for him by complimenting her when she does something he likes and punishing her when she does something he deems wrong. Katherine does not want to marry Petruchio, but since Petruchio has Baptista’s blessing what she wants doesn’t really matter. Since Petruchio is very manipulative as well, he is able to talk his way out of situations that may have stop the marriage. This scene in the play reflects the way marriage was perceived in William Shakespeare’s era (1558-1603). Where marriage was seen as a business opportunity in which both families involved would benefit. It also shows that the father has majority of the say in who the daughter is going to marry.

Screenshot 2017-04-23 at 2.50.37 PM.png

In this scene, the movie reached its climax as Cal plans of winning Emily back was interrupted by Jessica’s Dad and Jacob. He found out that Jacob is dating his daughter Hannah and Cal does not like that at all. Calling Jacob a womanizer, while Jessica’s Dad thought that Cal was having a relationship with his 17 year old daughter. Jessica babysat for Cal and Emily, she had a crush on Cal throughout the movie but nothing ever happened. This scene reflects how a women has way more power in who she chooses to be in a relationship/marry because Hannah was introducing Jacob to the family. Even though Cal does not want her dating Jacob, it is socially acceptable for Hannah to not listen to her father. Katherine does not have this luxury as she has to marry whoever her Dad sees fit. This shows that the modern era of marriage is about love and compatibility than just furthering a family’s power.

Overall, “The Taming of the Shrew” and “Crazy, Stupid, Love” even though they are fictional works, shows society views on marriage in the Elizabethan and modern era. From the play’s perspective, marriage was seen as a tool to gain more power and prestige. From the movie’s perspective, marriage is more complicated and has to do with the emotional connections between two people. Showing that the purpose of marriage has changed over the years and is always subject to change.

It's All Satire

Posted by Charles Velazquez in English 3 · Pahomov · B Band on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 7:37 pm

Satire is defined by dictionary.com as “the use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule, or the like, in exposing, denouncing, or deriding vice, folly, etc.” It is used in shows like Saturday Night Live to make fun of recent events such as presidential debates and celebrities. In mainstream venues like broadcast television, satire is used in a humourous and for the most part in a light hearted way. However, in the Youtube commentary community; people who make videos reacting to other videos and mock and make fun of them using under the umbrella of “satire.” Many YouTube commentary channels are not actually satire, they are just a way for them to get away with bullying and harassing people.

One of the YouTubers who pioneered this fake-satire genre was “Leafyishere”. They have almost 5 million subscribers, and in his channel description it states, “If you don't like satire content, probably not the place for you.”. He made a video called,”THE MOST UPSET FEMINIST GETS 0-100 ANGER TOWARDS ME.” In this video he talked about and watched a video with a person who was talking about all the hate they were getting because of the last video Leafy made on them. The first video he did about her was him making fun of one of the women’s youtube video, talking about her intro and some of the points she made in the video. In the video he said,“So I made a video on her or, or him… she’s trans so I don’t really know which one. Uhhh anyways I made a video on this f****ng creature. Umm *laughter* Okay that was f****ng joke…” In this statement he is blatantly making fun her for being a transexual, comparing her being trans to that of being some “creature.” Since he knew that was an inappropriate comment, he quickly defended himself by saying that it was just a joke, so he doesn’t get backlash for making such poorly taste statement. Since his channel is satire he is basically saying that the statement he just made was “satire”. This seemingly worked for no one made a comment about him making that statement, when it was not satire and just bullying someone over being transgender. So he got off “scot-free” for making that statement. If he were to use actual “satire he could’ve mock her video style or an statement she made that he felt was outlandish, not attack her sexuality.

In another one of Leafy’s videos called, “ANGRY UPSET FEMINIST SAYS SHE WANTS TO KILL ALL WHITE PEOPLE.” Which was about leafy commentating about two high school poetry slam students and how he feels that they were just hating on white men. He says, “Time out, you guys see the one on the left. You know the one with the hat; can someone please explain to me why she is wearing f****ng safety goggles.” He also stated, “I feel like these two annoying f****ng monkeys don’t fully understand…” These two quotes aren’t as harsh as the one in the previous paragraph but shows that his content not satire because he is directly attacking their physical appearance. He is not sarcastically saying this or using irony to prove a point about how what they are saying is foolish. He is just plain out attacking them and just labeling what he is saying as “satire” when it actuality it is not.

A YouTuber named “ColossalIsCrazy” who makes similar content to that of “Leafyishere” actually openly admits to using the word satire as a way to not get hate in the disclaimer of his video. Stating, “Please do not attack/harass anyone I discuss[insult] in this video. I hide behind the shield of satire, but I am also a strong believer in strong criticism...”  What this tells me is that the YouTube commentary community are not oblivious to this but still use the word for protection anyway. Collosaliscrazy is not that much of an offender of this because most of his videos are just criticism and not deliberately bashing on somebody. With that said his channel is basically criticizing people which is not satire. So claiming his channel as a satire channel is just called that just in case he needs it for protection against criticism.

If Youtube commentary channels stopped to think about it, they would realize that using satire as a shield does not just involve the misuse of the word “satire”, but it also involves lying to your fans and tampering with the definition of the word satire as well. Many of their fans maybe do not know what the definition of satire is and may get the wrong interpretation of it from their videos. What is needed to prevent this from happening is more YouTubers calling it out to discourage the people doing from using the claim of satire for protection as many such as Idubzzz has. With people doing this they can make the YouTube commentary more respected and honest for their viewers.

Mohammed is a reader that is mainly into fantasy texts and any other takes a lot of work for you to get interested in them. His love for fantasy books stems from him reading the Harry Potter series as a kid. His favorite being the fourth installment, Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire. Harry Potter is a book that he loves till this day because of how the main protagonist is relatable with a lot of depth.
Mohammed struggles with sticking with a book, it is hard for him to find a book that maintains his attention. He also struggles with finding the motivation to read. His reading happy place is when he finds a book that is so interesting that it doesn't feel as if he is reading. His weak spot in reading is that he doesn't comprehend books with complex sentences as easily.

The Struggle For Power

Posted by Charles Velazquez in English 2 - Pahomov - E on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 6:13 pm

People have many different groups or activities they are a part of. It makes them feel safe and at home. Like they are contributing to something greater. From being apart of a certain political category or an extremist group, everyone thirst for this feeling. In William Golding’s, Lord of the flies, a plane crash left a group of British boys stranded on an island with no parental supervision. They go through many obstacles such as voting for a leader and starting a fire. Throughout these struggles, they battle with war versus diplomacy. As a society, people are taught that it is important to contribute to the success of our communities. Like voting for a president that people feel will make a difference, inputting their opinions, but in the end, unless they have power it is out of their control.

In this scene from, Lord of the Flies, the group of kids just got done the voting for a leader. They chose Ralph to be the leader and Jack was not too happy about this decision. "This toy of voting was almost as pleasing as the conch. Jack started to protest but the clamor changed from the general wish for a chief..."(22) This quote shows that diplomacy is effective because people can bicker and complain about the decision, but the decision is final. Later in the scene, Jack was given the choirboys but Ralph is the overall leader. From the choirboys perspective they have no say in the matter, they have to follow Jack and listen to his commands. They are too young to control their own decision making and leave it in the hands of anybody with “authority”. This relates to what is going on in the presidential elections and how that most of Bernie Sanders supporters are young. In an article, from newyorker.com, which talked about the attendance of Bernie Sanders rally stated, “Another was how many young people were turning out to see an irascible seventy-four-year-old senator from Vermont.” Since a lot of Bernie Sander supporters are below the age limit they are not able to vote. They are like the choirboys not able to make the important decisions because they are too young. The young Bernie supporters can voice their opinions on social media, but in the end they can’t control the outcome. They have to leave it in the hands of their elders.

In pursuit of control many people start extremist groups to create change. In a Cnn article talking about the increase in extremist groups in america it stated, “"They believe the Constitution is being raped. With hate groups, things are going to get worse because they feel like they're in battle,"” Many extremist groups feel that they have a duty to fix what they feel is wrong with society and the government. They try to put their values out there through protesting and in extreme cases acts of violence. Since they do not have political power they feel that doing this is the only way to get heard. In their opinion the “injustice” that has been committed is big enough to start a group against. These types of group is like Jack’s viewpoint. In this scene Jack had just got done getting into a heated conversation with Ralph. In which said that Jack would even get scared if he saw a beast. This got Jack real mad and he called a meeting to impeach Ralph. He stated, “...The next thing is that we couldn’t kill it. And the next is Ralph said my hunters are no good. I never said that! I’ve got the conch. Ralph thinks you’re cowards running away from the boar and the beast” Jack tries to turn the group of boys against Ralph in this quote. He even lies about what he said, like a extremist group, he is trying correct the “wrong” that he was dealt. He left the group with his minions and formed kind of a cult that sacrifice animals to the so called Beast. He tried to change the group he was in, but failed exiling himself from the group. He was able to become leader of his own tribe but made enemies of the people around him.

In this scene a boy name Roger was walking across the island and was stopped by one of his clan mates. The clan questioned him because Jack wanted them to challenge everyone they met. They talked about what was happening to Wilfred and stated, “He’s going to beat wilfred. What for? I don’t know. He didn’t say. He got angry and made us tie Wilfred up. He’s been...he’s been tied up for hours waiting.” This quote shows that power over a whole group has gotten to Jack’s head. He is becoming a dictator, punishing anyone he pleases. The followers of Jack just go along with it either fearing that they will be next or trusting Jack because he is in a position of power. Jack doesn’t tell the group why Wilfred was being punished leaving them to think that he committed a heinous crime. This shows how power can shift people’s viewpoints of you and what you can do. He harnesses the power to take over the island, something he couldn’t have achieve before.

In conclusion, power rules the way people act and treat others. Without it they are not able to change the perspective of people around them. As we can see in, Lord of the Flies Jack gaining power affected how he treated the people around him. He began ruling with fear instead of being diplomatic like Ralph. In real life the youth lacking the power to vote affects the outcome of the presidential election which is out of their control. No matter what though people are going to try to voice their but without power nothing will change.

What went well in my ILP was that I ate pizza every single day. I also learned a lot about engineering. I am looking forward to the final presentation, where we are going to present our ideas about a park design. The different locations we go each week really stick out to me. Nothing is important.

The Divorce

Posted by Charles Velazquez in English 2 - Pahomov - E on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 7:08 am

(Sitting at the dinner table)

Guess what happen to me the today? No, I did not get a girlfriend dad, but I’m one step away from getting one. Mary Beth waved at me today. What do you mean that doesn’t mean anything? Mary Beth is the hottest girl in school and she acknowledge my existence and waving obviously means that she likes me. Oh, so waving doesn’t mean she likes me in that way, she just probably likes me as a friend. Okay, I guess that I might have misread the situation. Talking about meeting people, I was wondering how you and mom met.

No mom did not put me up to this. I just thought that if you remember the good times you and Mom had that you guys will stop fighting. Yes, I know that you guys fight. You do not do a great job at hiding it. Every night I hear you guys fighting and I stay up frightened, thinking that you guys are going to get divorced, but I know that is just a crazy thought. (PAUSE) Right. Wait, no…. don’t tell me. You guys are planning to get a divorce. When were you guys planning to tell me? When the time was right, so you were going to take me to the movies or an amusement park or something dumb like that and tell me then. You should have been honest with me from the beginning.

You don’t love her! But she is my Mom, you know the person you have been married to, for the past 20 years. I heard that marriages goes through rough patches. Maybe this is just your marriage’s  rough patch and eventually you will rekindle your love. So you’re not going to even try? Those 20 years of watching me grow up. Watching our family form is just nothing to you? Do not let this marriage fail, I will not let this marriage fail. If you’re not going to do it for her, then do it for me. You’re only son, the person you changed their diapers, the person who you taught how to catch a ball, the person who you bought them their first car.

Mom’s asking for the one asking for the divorce? Why is she the one asking for the divorce? You cheated on Mom! How could you do that to her? You have a single handedly teared a who family apart just for a piece of side action. I looked up to you Dad, I thought you were the best person in the world, not capable of hurting no one. I was obviously wrong about you. You are now nothing to me, except for the peice of shit who left my mom for a whore. NO, I will continuing using this tone with you and you’re going to listen.

(What the actor sees: The Dad begins walking to the door)

Now you’re leaving because you are not man enough to face your problems. If you walk out that door, Dad you will lose me forever. *Door Slams* He actually left, what does this mean for my family? I didn’t mean some of things I said, I was just angry at him. He left us though, he had the nerve to leave us. There’s is no going back now I guess. I lost my Dad, the person who is suppose to be there for me. I should not have push it so far.(Curtain Drops and Lights turn off)

Be Comfortable With The Way you Speak.

Posted by Charles Velazquez in English 2 - Pahomov - E on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 3:21 pm

“Don’t say the word jawn.”

“Why not, I hear Dad say it all the time.”

“I don’t want my son to sound ghetto.”

My mom told me this as I was having an average conversation with her. I was using the word jawn to describe an object in the room. I don’t really use a lot of slang when I talk, so I took offense when she told me that she doesn’t want me to sound ghetto. Every time I say something that she considers to be ghetto she will tell me, “Even though you live in the ghetto you don’t have to act ghetto.” It sounds like a tape recorder on replay.

“It’s not like I talk like this all the time.” I said.

“I don’t care, just don’t use that word.”

“Okay whatever you say woman.”

I walk away not really listening to my Mom’s advice because I know how to control my language around different types of people. I talk usually talk proper with my mom, but when I talk proper with my Dad’s side of the family it’s a whole different perspective. I was at my grandma’s house one day and I was having a conversation with my aunt she’s the complete opposite of proper, she doesn’t have a filter on anything that comes from her mouth. She speaks her mind no matter the consequences, which is an unsavory character trait.

“How’s school?”Aunt Maria asked.

“It’s going okay, I am just kind of stressed out because I have a lot of work to do. Other than that it’s fine.”

“You sound like a gringo.”

“This is just the way I talk.” I said.

I walked away thinking about what she said. If you don’t know what a “gringo” is, it’s a person who doesn’t know spanish but in this context she was using it as a way to say “you sound white.” This got me a little mad , I knew  that I talked proper but being called a gringo was a punch to the gut. In order to not be called a gringo anymore, I tried speaking a little more slang and spanish around my family. A couple months later I was at my grandma’s house again and my grandma served me food.

“Gracias” I said.

“Denada” My grandma replied.

“Why do you say gracias like that?” My 10 year cousin teased.

“Like what?”

“You say it funny.”

No matter how hard I try there is not a win-win with my Dad’s side of the family. That is why I like talking to my Mom’s side of the family more. I can talk about anything and in anyway I want to and not be judged by them. With my uncle I always talk about reptiles and game and not feel like an outcast in my own family.

“How is your bearded dragon doing.” My uncle asked

“He is doing well, I just bought him a new heating bulb the other day.”

“That’s cool, I just got my leopard gecko the other day.¨

“How big is it.”

“It is about 6 inches.”

If I talked like that with Dad’s side of the family, they will silently judge me and think that I’m weird. I forgive them though because that is the way they talk and I understand that me talking a certain can be really foreign to them. As J.K. Rowling said, “Understanding is the first step to acceptance, and only with acceptance can there be recovery.” I forgive them for judging the way I talk and this will help me become better at being more attached to my roots. I want to fit with my family without abandoning who I am as a person.

In the end, it doesn’t what people think as long as you are comfortable with the way you talk. The only people you have to please is yourself and the people close to you. I am going to continue talking how I want to talk and you should too.

Radical Republicans

Posted by Charles Velazquez in African American History - Jonas - A on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 8:39 pm

Artist Statement:

In my visual it may be hard to understand certain aspects such as the date written and the name of the newspaper itself. I am here to clear all that up. lets start with the date the newspaper was made. It was made on April 28, 1870, the reason why I chose this date was because the KKK was created about years prior. They also had a lot activity during this time with the Radical Republicans and African Americans in general. Andrew Johnson was also Impeached 2 years before this date and the Radical Republicans had a big role in the impeachment.

Now to the second point. Why did I name the newspaper,¨The Philadelphia post¨?

The first reason is pretty simple really, I just like the way it sounds and I also live in Philadelphia. With further reflection though I figure that Philadelphia is a recurring state in African American history. It has been a staple in which African Americans go to, to have a taste of freedom. That is basically why I called it ¨The Philadelphia Post¨.

Finally to the juicy stuff, Why should you care about Radical Republicans? In my opinion Radical Republicans are not afraid to think out of society standards and stand up to what they believe in. You can draw from those traits and learn how they stood up for what they believe in and apply to your own life. Thank you for taking the time to look at my artist statement and actually looking at my visual.

Art 123
Art 123
1.) I felt like I deserve a 90-95 because I think that I have improved drastically in my drawing skills. I drew the design on the back wall and I drew stuff on each of the walls.

2.) I would add more to the right wall and not leave everything to last minute.

3.) I think that Tajnia's was the most successful one because of how much detail she put into the drawing. She shaded in the blinds and created an beautiful table. The stools were sketched but had an great originality to them. Nice project overall.

4.) That it is hard at first but easy after a while doing it. I learned that your lines should always point to your vanishing point or your drawing will be off a little.

Charles's Slide #2

Posted by Charles Velazquez in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - y1 on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 8:39 pm
Slide for tech
In my new slide I have made some slight changes to the word layout and the places of the controllers. I took out the shadow from one of the controllers because of the feedback I received from my peers. They felted like it didn't fit in with the style of the slide and I agree. I wanted to stay with a simplistic style for my slide. The contrast between the controllers and the background still remains. I went with a less is more approached with the words on the slide, I want the viewer to develop what message I'm trying to get across with this slide. Thanks for looking at my slide and I hope you have enjoyed it.

Net Neutrality and Teens.

Posted by Charles Velazquez in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - y1 on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 8:24 pm
Net neutrality
Net Neutrality is important for teens to understand and to stand behind as well. With Net Neutrality we are able to have a voice, we can say, see, and do whatever we want on the internet. We are allowed to do this with a magical thing called Net Neutrality. Net Neutrality is a rule that all data is treated equally. This means that a Netflix show can't come faster than a YouTube video.
Without Net Neutrality everything will change, your Internet service provider will be able to pick and choose the packets of data that comes faster and slower to your computer. This also effects your voice and it's impact on the internet. If you love to blog without Net Neutrality your blog would be render useless if you don't pay a large fee to get it out there. It would be impossible to have a voice. If you have a favorite website that not many people go on, it will take FOREVER for it to load.
My final point is that you will have to pay more for internet. Like in my third link, your favorite websites will be packaged into different categories and you will have to pay for all the packages you want. You will have to pay this on top of what your paying right now. This is a legitimate problem, and we need your help. Protect Net Neutrality.

Game On, By: Charles Velazquez

Posted by Charles Velazquez in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - y1 on Monday, November 24, 2014 at 11:38 am
Untitled presentation
The reason why I created this slide is to show my love for video games but in a creative way. I wanted my slide to be simple but visually appealing as well. The black background has perfect contrast against the white wording and negative colored controllers.I wanted the viewer to see my interest with only a glance. I didn't want them to be bombarded with an overwhelming amount of pictures and wording, so I don't lose their interest. I also wanted to focus on, just one of my hobbies that define me. Not all of them, that would've taken forever to do. I used big font to really catch the viewers eye and so it can be seen from far away. I hope you enjoyed my slide and Game On.

2.) explain your L.A.N. Local Area Network - all the devices on your internet connection. Take this from the 1st assignment, when I sent you home to list the parts of your network.

3.) reflect on what you learned about networks, did you have an OMG moment that you learned something new and interesting? if so write about what you learned.

4.)what would you tell other people that they need to know about having an ISP/Home network?

2.) My Internet Service Provider is Comcast. It gets into my house through a coax cable. All the devices connected to my WiFi is 4 phones, 2ds, tablet, Chromebook, Computer.

3.) I did when you showed us the videos on what happens when you upload a page. I was like that is a complex process and it looks like it can mess up quick. It only happens in a second too, that blown my mind.

4.)Your Internet Service Provider can slow down certain websites in order to stop other companies from stealing their customers. Also, you can set up rules for you home network.
