Not knowing how to record certain things, or being familiar with any angles or lighting, or anything that contributes to having a high quality video, and nice shot of something, this source will not only benefit me when creating my movie, but it will also guide me along the way. I will be allowed to have a much better understanding on how to shoot my movie. This will allow my movie to be smoother and more appealing for the eye to see. This will also allow my movie to have diversity when it comes to the angles, the lighting, and etc.

Source #2: Courage, Film. “My Interview Tips To Documentary Filmmakers by Paul Blackthorne.” YouTube, YouTube, 1 Dec. 2013, www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8L4WgUTpXs.

With my project, interviewing people will have to happen. Although I have been interviewed plenty of times before, I have never been the interviewer, just the interviewee. In order to have a successful interview, I will need help. I will need to learn from to talk, which tone of voice to use, and etc. This source is tips from someone who not only knows how to interview someone, but is also associated with the film and digital world. The tips provided will allow my movie to have a nice flow to the interview when including these interviews into my movie/film/documentary.

Source #3: CreativeCreations.tv. “Creative Tips | How to Interview People.” YouTube, YouTube, 28 July 2016, www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPXOKZQzp-g.

With my project, I will need to interact with others that are involved and active in the community I am a part of. I will need to interview them. I have never interviewed someone in a way where it is important or for something that I am creating, especially not something as big as a senior project. With this being said, this source will help and benefit me when doing this because it will help me be a better interviewer, and giving my interviewee a better interview. I will also learn more and be able to accomplish more out of the person I am interviewing when using tips given from this website.

Source #4: Hartford, The. “7 Tips and Tricks to Keep Yourself Motivated in Any Situation.” Inc.com, Inc., 10 July 2018, www.inc.com/thehartford/7-tips-tricks-to-keep-yourself-motivated.html.

For me, personally, when it comes to projects that I have to do something in my interest. I tend to somewhat lose motivation and I start to procrastinate only due to the fact that I feel as if I can easily get done. This is because I believe that since this is a topic I am familiar with and I am dictating, I can easily wing it, but knowing how big of a project this is, I know that I will need as much motivation as I can get and I will need as much time as I can possibly get as well. This being said, I wanted to look up ways to keep myself motivated because my project is something that I actually want to invest my time into, and naste it. This source can help guide me into being a better student when it comes to completing this project that I feel passionate about.

Source #5:

“How to Make a Documentary.” Adora Learning Center, https://www.adorama.com/alc/how-to-make-a-documentary

Although I know that I can simply use my phone to record and edit and etc, I would also like my movie to be the best it can possibly be. This being said, it can only be done if I use the correct equipment as well as the correct tools. With this source, it tells me what specifically to look for when completing my movie. What techniques to use when completing my movie will also be needed, and this source provides this information. A movie/film/docu consists of so many different aspects and this source is only one of the many sources that will help provide different parts of creating a film like piece.

Source #6: Kessler, Sarah. “How to Conduct a Job Interview.” Inc.com, Inc., www.inc.com/guides/2010/04/conducting-job-interviews.html.

The interviews that I will be conducting will most definitely not be job interviews, but rather interviews that allow me to understand people more, how they have evolved and grown as a person through this community we are all a part of. Although this source does primarily focus on conducting job interviews rather than the interviews that I will be doing, I believe this source will help guide my interviews. Interviews should include being professional and the most professional and successful interviews consists of job interviews. This will help me visualize how the interview should go and what I should leave thinking and with.

Source #7: “Making Documentaries: A Step By Step Guide.” Desktop-Documentaries.com, www.desktop-documentaries.com/making-documentaries.html.

As I said before for the source above, I am not familiar with the digital world, nor do I know where or how to approach/start this “movie” of mine. Although this source does somewhat relate to the source above this one, this source helps me when creating my movie step by step. This will allow my movie to have a better flow and also have a variety of different things that can bring my movie to life. It will allow my movie to be more captivating and be more interesting for myself, as well as the audience to see. This source will help guide me as well.

Source #8: Moore, Michael, and Michael Moore. “Michael Moore's 13 Rules for Making Documentary Films.” IndieWire, IndieWire, 10 Sept. 2014, www.indiewire.com/2014/09/michael-moores-13-rules-for-making-documentary-films-22384/.

I have chosen this source to use when completing my capstone. I am not one who is good with film or documentaries, or anything related to the recording/digital world. With this being said, I  believe feedback and advice from those who know what they are doing and completely familiar with the digital world can help guide me to create the ‘movie” I know I can make. With this source, examples are given as to how to approach certain things, and which certain things to approach when creating this movie of mine. With this source, I also learned to make this documentary not a documentary or film, but a movie.

Source #9: Stibbe, Matthew. “How to Interview Someone like a Journalist.” Inbound Marketing for B2B Technology Companies, The Articulate Marketing Blog, www.articulatemarketing.com/blog/how-to-interview-someone.

When it comes to collecting information and recording information based off of what people are saying, there are certain elements to pay more attention to. There are also different techniques that can be used when focusing and collecting data/info from the interviewee. Although I have a general idea of what I should be paying attention to and focusing on when interviewing people, it doesn’t harm me to have more understanding and techniques as to what to pay attention to, and tips to gather more or close to all information. The best thing I believe doing is writing or collecting almost word for word what the interviewee says and when I can’t exactly record maybe, this source will come in handy.

Source #10: Tips, Science Filmmaking. “6 Tips for (Documentary) Filmmakers.” YouTube, YouTube, 19 Aug. 2015, www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0qsl_Tr_S4.

With this project that I have in mind, I will have to, to the best of my abilities, become almost a director. I am the director of my own film/docu/movie. Knowing nothing about how to be a director, how I want my movie to go, or anything related to how the finish product might look like, this source will definitely help me. Any tips that will allow me to have a better understanding and put together a piece that will capture what I have in mind will help me. This is also specifically towards filmmakers who are created a documentary type piece, which I am, so that will help me as well.

Make Economy Better

Make Economy Better

Trash is everywhere, no matter where people go. The amount of waste on the streets only increases, day by day, especially in the streets of Philadelphia. As a well known city, Philadelphia gets many visitors everyday. They flock to Philadelphia’s Old City to many other historical places like the Liberty Bell, The Betsy Ross house, and etc. Being able to live anywhere is nice, except when having to deal with the trash no matter where people go. Driving or walking around Philly, it is common to find places filled with trash, or places that are trashed up. These places have a negative impact on the city. If citizens were to own up to their actions and be more environmentally conscious, then Philadelphians would not feel discouraged as they trudge through old wrappers and cigarette butts. Developing a way to stop citizens from littering is the best way to improve the economy.

Walking around in Philly, people will find that there is a lot to observe. One thing people realize is the excessive number of homeless people. Homelessness is one of the reasons as to why trash exists in the city of Philadelphia. The homeless are constantly carelessly throwing away trash on the street. The people who do not have a roof over their heads have nowhere else to place anything besides on the streets, creating more and more trash. Philadelphia also has a 25.7%  of those in poverty, which is the same as ¼ of the population being in poverty. It was stated by Tony Abraham that the city does not have enough resources to provide more shelters. If Philadelphians had more care for the homeless then the city would be avoiding a great amount of trash laying about the streets. This will also be helping the economy and benefiting the homeless because it will create a cleaner space for them to live in. Without the trash that is partially created by them, it will help reduce the amount of trash in the world and provide better for the economy.

The reason why littering negatively impacts the economy is because there are different types of littering, from marine to land littering. Philly has great sites and places to visit and observe, but destroying all that the city has by putting waste into the locations, only makes the economy and living things go bad. The wildlife is highly impacted by the trash and the littering people create. The wildlife assume the trash they come across is safe for them to eat, although it is not. If wildlife is being destroyed, that also means the water people drink would have to go through more to be filtered, possibly resulting in a higher cost for water filtration. The rate at which people throw out food in the United States is alarming and also contributes to overflowing landfills. People do not want to find themselves living within their discards, and that seems to be the fate if people do not become more aware of the environment. If this was avoided, the economy would be more organized and healthier.

Diseases are beginning to spread. Dirt and trash are spreading in the air more frequently. With the trash Philadelphia has, it creates breathing problems for certain people. The dirt and trash are not only causing damage to people, but also animals. There are trash being thrown in rivers and other bodies of water as well. A very known river in Philadelphia, which is ẗhe Schuylkill River, is to be considered a dirty river. Trash can be seen in the river as people walk by it. It affects the water quality and also the air quality. Littering causes pollution, in which an article on a website called Philly mag, talked about pollution. ¨Here in Philadelphia County, the Air Quality Index, a color-coded scale that the EPA helped develop to show days when pollution is higher, shows that we have an average of 34 “orange” high-ozone days a year—meaning Philadelphians endure over a month’s worth of days during which the air is decidedly unhealthy to breathe.¨ This shows the statistics on how polluted the air is for people living in Philadelphia, and how it is unhealthy for people. If littering was reduced, the city of Philadelphia and the citizens would not have as big of an issue with this. Homes and sites would not be destroyed. The economy would be better improved.

Making the economy better is a possible solution to improve the health for residents of Philadelphia, and improving the pollution in the air. This can happen by citizens being able to own up to their actions and be more environmentally conscious. Then, Philadelphians would not feel discouraged as they trudge through old wrappers and cigarette butts.

Comparing Taming of the Shrew to 13 Going on 30

In the Taming of the Shrew, it is clear to the reader that romantic relationships revolve around what the male desires. Although it is not said clearly, it can be seen through the actions and the words being exchanged. In the movie 13 Going on 30, their way to determine who has more power and gets the better relationship with the desired one are those who are the most popular. These two relate because it includes people who seek the best for themselves that eventually get to where they want.

In The Taming of the Shrew, one of the main characters, Petruchio, does not stop but to ensure that Katherine becomes and remains his wife. Katherine is in a learning and adapting process during this relationship. Petruchio also approaches her in a manner that is not considered mean. In the movie, 13 Going on 30, the main character Jenna, wants to be the most popular and have the most attractive guy as her boyfriend, until something backfires. She wishes to be 30, only having it come true. Just like Petruchio, she wants to make everything her way and just like Katherine, she learns to change. These two stories show us that when it comes to marriage and love, there is also one who fights harder and does more so that there can be a relationship.

Petruchio: “Thou must be married to no man but me. For I am, he am born to tame you, Kate. And bring you from a wild Kate to a Kate Conformable as other household Kates.”

Page 95, Act 1, Scene 2, Lines 290-293.

In this scene, it was around the time of when Katherine and Petruchio first met, Petruchio already had the idea of marrying Katherine, set in his mind. They exchanged conversations when they first met. Katherine was a bit harsh with her words and Petruchio was calm. Petruchio is stating how he is the man Katherine should marry. He will also be the one to “tame” her. Petruchio saying that Katherine is to only marry him means that he has this idea of how life will be for her without even asking how she feels. He makes the decision based on what he wants. Taming her meant that he wanted to change her. He says things like this which shows that he believes that he has authority and that he should be listened to. Katherine has to act a certain way and do certain things so he can be satisfied. She has to do more to keep what they have, intact and together. She has to put the effort while Petruchio says what should be done.

In the movie 13 Going on 30, there was this one scene where it was Jenna’s birthday and she threw a party. She also invited all the popular kids over. When the doorbell rang, she told her current bestfriend at the time to play music as she excitedly ran to open the door. He eventually left to get something and she implied that she didn’t care because it didn’t affect her and her current status. Just like Petruchio, she had authority over her best friend, making herself happy. During this birthday party, she controlled where her best friend stayed and made him get things ready so that the popular kids that were coming would be welcomed nicely. This is like Petruchio because they both had decisions for the benefit of themselves. They display acts of leadership which makes people want to follow because they eventually do in the scenes. In the relationship between Matt and Jenna, Matt is constantly finding himself helping out Jenna and doing what she desires to keep her happy. This allows Jenna to pay attention to him. Jenna has other things on her mind while Matt only has her in his mind. Matt is doing what he is being told to do to keep her happy and their current friendship positive.

Katherine: “No shame but mine. I must forsooth, be forced To give my hand, opposed against my heart, Unto a mad-brain rudesby, full of spleen, Who wooed in haste and means to wed at leisure.”

Page 117 Act 3. Scene 2. Lines 8-10.

In The Taming of the Shrew, Petruchio and Katherine are indeed married, but it was a difficult process getting there. Katherine began with a breakdown. Petruchio was late for their wedding. She agreed to marrying a man who sought control, only to be left to look like a fool in the beginning of the ceremony. She only had the option of complaining about it because it was all she was capable of doing so. As long as she did her job in giving Petruchio what he wanted, even if she was upset, their relationship together was fine. Petruchio showed up late to their own wedding and he didn’t apologize, but ignored the fact that his soon-to-be wife was upset and carried along. Katherine had to put up with him and just accepted it. This allowed them to move on.

In the movie 13 Going on 30, there was this one scene where Matt was getting married to someone, someone that wasn’t Jenna. Jenna and Matt had reconnected in that time period and did more than what best-friends normally did. They both knew they felt more than just friends towards one another. Jenna goes inside the room and says something along the lines of “You shouldn’t be getting married, not unless it’s to me.” She wanted them to work as more than friends, but Matt saw it a different way, even though deep down he knew he didn’t. He wanted to remain friends although he did possess a large amount of love for her. Jenna agrees and goes away. Just like Katherine, Jenna has to accept what is happening for the better of their relationship. If they act accordingly, they will avoid other problems and be able to move on, leaving the other significant other satisfied, and keeping the relationship they still have with one another, alive.

Katherine: “Thy husband is thy lord, thy life, thy keeper, Thy head, thy sovereign, one that cares for thee,”

Page 219. Act 5. Scene 2. Line 162-163.

In this scene of The Taming of the Shrew, everyone was gathered in a place, dining together and talking amongst one another. Katherine then decides to speak up and make a speech. When she finishes her speech, it is clear that her whole perspective on how she should act changes. She has now convinced herself that the correct way to act is by acting the way Petruchio wants. She is the one in the relationship that must do keep them both satisfied in order for the relationship to keep moving forward. She also states it herself. By her words, she is allowing herself to give into what Petruchio wants as if it is what is right and what she should be doing. Petruchio seems to be having indirect control over her. She has to do more than Petruchio does to hold them both together.

In the movie, 13 Going on 30, at the end of the movie, Jenna returns to her 13 year-old self, only realizing what she has been missing out on. She is back into her closet and when she hears her best friend Matt, she quickly opens the door, runs to him and kisses him. She realized, from future her, when she was 30, that Matt was someone she couldn’t lose, the second she open the door, she secured him for herself, jumping on him and kissing him. She makes this action to make sure Matt becomes hooked, which he does, allowing Matt to be Jenna’s. Jenna relates to Katherine in this because they both took it a step further in their relationship to make sure things would be secure between both characters in both relationships.

Although the idea of love and how people should act towards their significant other has changed around time, certain parts of still very much the same. Love seems to be more one-sided whether it is intentional or not. Equalness in love is hard to find and see. It is easier and more likely to find one doing more than the other in a relationship.

Best Personal Essay Ever - Bettering Myself

Posted by Ailin Li in English 3 · Pahomov · A Band on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 7:48 pm

Bettering Myself

My friend Abby untucked herself from under the covers, pulling the blanket off of herself. She slowly climbed out of her bed and was now up on her feet. She took no more than seven steps before reaching the door. She placed her hand on the doorknob, turned it, and walked out of her room. She left the door open, knowing she was going to return to her room eventually. She walked at a normal-pace as she was approaching the other room down the hall. Abby was young, maybe nine or ten years old. She got to the front of the door, in front of the room. She placed her hand on the doorknob, quickly opening the door, pushing it open, and what she saw next, she was nowhere near prepared for.

She didn’t trust anyone with this story, anyone but me, and here I am sharing it. She remembers this vaguely, just enough to understand somewhat of what was going on. It was believed to be a weekend because both of her parents were home, and she barely saw them home together unless it was the weekend. Her mom didn’t work on weekends, only weekdays, and her dad always came home early enough for her to see him before she went to sleep for school, or just to sleep in general. Abby didn’t realize it then, but she realizes it now. Her parents had been fighting more frequently. She guessed it was because she gotten used to them screaming at one another and constantly fighting, Abby constantly ignored it, but she knew how it made her feel, and she knew that she didn’t like the feeling, causing her to ignore it.

Growing up, Abby wasn’t the best version of herself that she could be. She was mean to the students at school and at her program for after-school. She never really cared about how she treated them or what she said to them, as long as she felt she had power. She also didn’t pay much attention to her parents and was usually in trouble with them. It was hard to believe for someone her age, but it was true.

Yelling, screaming, inappropriate words, things being thrown, it started like that. Abby didn’t know why it was happening, but she knew it was happening. Abby was in the other room with her baby sister, her room, the place where she felt most safe, and the only place for her to go. Her parents weren’t in the room with her but in another. She remembers being on her bed, and her baby sister in her baby bed next to her, crying. Abby didn’t know what was going on. Her parents then came into the room. They were still yelling, maybe about the baby, maybe about money, She was not sure, but she knew they were fighting.

Seconds later, their yelling got louder, and Abby started crying. She was scared. She didn’t know what was going on, why they were fighting, or what they were fighting about. She was scared not knowing what was going to happen, she didn’t want there to be a next. The fighting of her parents hurt her, but not physically. Abby tried to yell at them, wanting them to stop, but it didn’t work. Abby’s grandpa then walks into the room and tries to make them stop fighting, but they still didn't. It kept going for a while, but they eventually came to a stop.

Time passed and Abby was now tucked in her bed. The lights were off, but she was still awake. She couldn’t sleep. Abby lay there, awake. There she was in bed, her dad in the other, but not her mother, not her. She didn’t know where her mom was.

Suddenly, noises began. They got louder and didn’t stop. She didn’t know where the noises were coming from, neither did her dad, and certainly not her baby sister, but she knew they were coming from her mom. Her dad then said out loud “go see what your freaking mom is doing.”

Abby untucked herself from under the covers, pulling the blanket off of herself.

In front of her was her mom, struggling to get out of the window while crying. She froze, then ran towards the window, yelling and begging for her mom to stop immediately. She pulled her mom away from the window and they then sat down on the floor together, crying. Her mom said, “I can’t do this anymore, I don’t want to do this anymore.” Abby didn’t know what to say or think, but she was hurt and she couldn’t believe what was happening. She didn’t want to lose her mom.

Her grandfather then walks in and does his best to calm them both down. It took a while to get her and her mom settled, but it happened. Abby then walks back into her room, worried. She couldn’t sleep knowing if her mom was now okay or not. She snuck out of her room and checked up on her mom, only to see that she was peacefully sleeping.

Ever since that day, Abby grew up with the mindset of having to watch everything she said, as well as her actions. The thought of losing someone she deeply cared about scared her. She never had to think about stuff like that. She didn’t want the reason for others to feel hurt, was because of her. She didn’t wish that on anyone, even though sometimes it seemed like others did deserve to feel hurt, but she knew that wasn’t right. Abby changed her ways and grew up a caring person. She knew what not to say and what not to do. Although Abby herself has gone through difficult times, not once has she done anything to make it “even.” She constantly did the right thing and let things go, coping in her own ways, and trying her best to move on with life.

After hearing about this story, I realized the person I was. I was a person I didn’t like, and a person I wouldn’t like if I was someone else and I met myself. I didn’t want to lose the people I loved the most due to the way I acted. I didn’t want the things I said and the actions I took to push people away and make them feel terrible, and I never wanted anyone to hurt themselves, especially not because of me. She allowed me to realize the person I was, and that if I continued acting the way I did, I could hurt someone badly.  I began thinking about how I could better myself for myself and for others. I started changing my ways and being more positive. Not everything had to be a competition and not everyone was seen below me. I let people in and I made sure those around me would not feel the negative energy they did before, from me. I only wanted to act the best possible version of myself I could, and to spread positivity. I no longer felt a need for others in the world to feel the hurt I did or do. I was a much better person than that. I constantly grew up thinking I had to look out for everyone and anybody I possibly cared about, which was everyone I met and knew. I looked out for everyone, even those who have done me wrong. I didn’t believe in revenge or anything cruel, just forgiveness and moving on.  I cared more for people and less for myself. I changed for the better, as a daughter, a friend, and as a student.

Power of Celebrities

Posted by Ailin Li in English 3 · Pahomov · A Band on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 2:14 pm

Teens like role models,  either famous athletes or some type of celebrity, or even their parents. This is the person they aspire to be or want to be like due to the celebrity’s lifestyle. They keep up with their idol’s trends and their life. Everyone has that person no matter the age, but it is most commonly found in teenagers. So, it can be said that teenagers learn first and foremost of what they want to do in life from observing celebrities on social media.

Kylie Jenner, one of the media’s most powerful people, started a trend towards the end of 2014, going into 2015, when she got lip injections as a teenager. She revealed that she got lip injections, after many interviews of denying that she didn’t get them, on her very own show, Life With Kylie.  According to Emma Akbareian, from The Independent News, on May 7th of 2015, some clinics the revelation had led to a surge in enquiries from the public, wanting to copy her pouting lip look after getting her lips done. After Kylie Jenner confirmed to getting lip injections on her show, Life with Kylie, it sent out a word to many teenagers, telling them that it was okay to get lip injections, and this inspired young teens that look up to her, to follow her ways of getting their lips done. Dr. Leah Totton from Dr. Leah Clinics told The Independent her clinic has reported a staggering 70% rise in lip filler inquiries in the last 24 hours from when Kylie Jenner posted her first picture with her lips done on instagram, with the caption “1 2 many selfies”. Because of the power that the celebrity had on social media and in general, she got a hold of the mind’s of the teenagers following her, inspiring those who did, to get their lips done. They did something they might have not even know they wanted to do, but because after seeing it happen to someone famous, it pushed them to do so.

Kim Kardashian, a major part of the media today that many people follow, started a trend  with when it came to body shape. One of the main things Kim Kardashian is known for is her body. People consider her to be today’s idea of a perfect body, with the curves and the thickness. She revealed her way of getting a bigger butt, given from her trainer Gunnar Peterson, which is by doing squats and other things in reps, using weights that is perfect for each body, but eventually having to use heavier weights. Hearing about this news and getting influenced by the body she has to get a body like that of their own, her fans and regular citizens began following after her ways. According to Daily Mail, a teenager named Charlotte Webb of 18 years old revealed how weights with squats gave her the perfect Kim Kardashian bottom. Webb also revealed that she began following after fitness icons on instagram because she was very unhappy with her body. If Kim Kardashian had not shown the world the body she had, people would not get the idea of working themselves out for the body they think is ideal. Webb and many other people realized what they wanted their body to look like and did what they had to do after seeing what Kim Kardashian looked like and what she did to keep her figure.

In Korea, plastic surgery is very big and popular. People that live in Korea get plastic surgery daily and it is seen as a normal thing. Some might get it for their birthday and some might get it just for their own happiness, but most get it due to celebrities getting their face done. They see that as inspiration for them to get it for themselves. The article The K-Pop Plastic Surgery Obsession states that “Feminist criticisms of body objectification are barely heard, and the racial argument that this surgery is a form of "trying to look white" has faded -- due to the rise of Korean pop music culture. K-pop has created a completely new beauty aesthetic that nods to Caucasian features but doesn't replicate them.” K-pop, which is Korean pop music, or even K-dramas, have korean celebrities who have admitted to getting plastic surgery. There was a plastic surgery called the v-line surgery, and after seeing the famous korean icons like Hani, Luna, and Hyomin get this surgery, many fans and regular people in the United States and in Korea began following after them, changing their face into what they thought was better. These people appear all over media and any social website. They provide pictures of their face on instagram, showing what they look like after these surgeries. Also according to the article, a teen named Hailey Kim told the press that she did not like what she saw when she looked in the mirror. She wanted to change a lot of her face and after seeing celebrities do so, she decided it was what she wanted as well. People get influenced by the cultural perspectives all around them to get their face done, and because the celebrities are all over social media. Those who follow and keep up with these icons see that this is happening and think that is it okay. They get the idea of wanting to get plastic surgery as well. They see it as something they want to do in life after seeing it from their most idled person and follow after them.

If teenagers stopped to think about it, they would realize that observing others is not just about learning how to be more like the person they want to be, but realizing what person they could be for the better, and learning more about themselves while approaching life. Being someone unique and different instead of someone trying to be like media celebrities is what teenagers should learn from media.

La Vida de Americano Asiática - Ailin Li

Posted by Ailin Li in Spanish 1 - Manuel - C on Sunday, March 27, 2016 at 8:09 pm

Soy Ailin Li

Vengo desde muy lejos

Como el ave que emigra

Y también los recuerdos desde mi infancia

Soy de China

Y soy Asiática

En mi casa

Yo veo la cocina y mi hermana menor baila

Yo oigo mi hermana menor canta y mi abuela grita

Growing Up Online

Posted by Ailin Li in Technology - Freshman - Hull - y2 on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 10:32 am

The TV show we watched in class is Growing Up Online.

This show was about teens being obsessed and overly using their phones, going online, and what they did online. It was also about how teens were being attacked online and those who attacked them.

The most memorable thing to me about this show was the fact that teens did everything you wouldn’t ever expect for them to do online. It was like they were living two lives. One in the real world and another online.

It is important to watch shows like this so you can get a visual image of what society was like before and what it will be like now if we continue our live’s always on online and on our phones/laptops/computers. It is also important to watch shows like this so you know what to avoid and what to do.

I will keep my future family safe online by allowing them to go online and posts things as long as they don’t have any inappropriate pictures of themselves or any negative things being said or put out there.

It is important to talk with your family about internet safety because you want to protect your family from what bad things happening online and so they don’t end up with situations online with others and/or themselves.

Advice I would you give to parents that don't know how to keep their children safe online is that to make sure that your child/children knows exactly what they’re doing online, who will see it, how they address things, and what to not do because one wrong mistake can lead to so many problems.

Finalized Slide

Posted by Ailin Li in Technology - Freshman - Hull - y2 on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 10:33 am
From the critique of my slide, I learned that simplicity is the key to presenting slides. You must keep your stuff simple, but still interesting to view. I also learned that you don't need your name on slides like this and that too much stuff on a slide is really distracting. One last thing I learned is how to create a slide for presentation the correct way.
I made many changes to the slide. For example, I removed most of the words, changed the background a bit, and removed my name on the slide. I removed most of the words because I realized you didn't need them. It was also distracting and too much on the slide. I changed the background because it wasn't as visible, so i made it a bit darker also so it would compliment the pictures on my slide more. One last change I made was removing my name because you don't need it and it isn't appropriate for the slide.

Media Fluency Li

technology me slideshow
The slide about me was set up in a way to let people know the things that are important to me and what goes on in my life. I put a picture of some of my teammates on the the slide, a basketball, and some quotes because they all relate and make up who I am. The pictures on the slide were bled off to create more space and to also add a cool way of viewing it.The colors chosen for this slide was mainly pink and white. I wanted it to be nice and simple colors, but would still stand out for its unique and plainness.  I also kept the size of my letters at an average size so it would fit and not look either too big or too small. I like to express who I am by showing what is important to me and what I feel people should know. My love for my team, for being who I am, and my surroundings influenced my decision into making my my slide the way it is.

Reflection, Ailin Li

Posted by Ailin Li in Technology - Freshman - Hull - y2 on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at 11:02 am
The video we watched in class today was a video from "I Am A Witness". It was about a young cyclops boy who was getting bullied in school and on the internet. There would also be an emoji that would only pop up when he was about to get bullied. You would click on that emoji to prevent any bad things from happening to him. After watching this, our classroom activity was to look ourselves up on google. What this video brings to mind in reference to the topic bullying is whenever I see online bullies or watch bullying movies because it they tend to be very captivating. Who I am online would be who I would be in person. I don't do much online. I would say I appear as just a normal and typical person going on social media. No one important or known. I think people perceive me based on this appearance by seeing me as just another person with social media, nothing else. I also feel as if the goal of internet trolls is to make people feel less about themselves so they can feel better about themselves since most internet trolls are private and usually provide no information about themselves. This way it is harder to find out who they are and they won't have a care for us. A positive result of online anonymity is that people won't find out who you are and you'll have your own privacy. A negative result of online anonymity is that people will report you and that you'll most likely give of a negative vibe to others, making them unsure and uncomfortable. This can lead to many problems.

Home Network, Li

Posted by Ailin Li in Technology - Freshman - Hull - y2 on Friday, October 16, 2015 at 11:07 am
My L.A.N Local Area Network has many things connected to it. For example, phones, a computer, tablets, laptops, and a printer.
The thing I learned about networks is that everything is connected to one another. For example, it all starts with the internet, then it goes to the coax cable, it then goes into the router, modem, or modem router, and lastly into the devices that are connected to the modem/router for internet. Another thing I learned about networks is that every time you go on any websites, it is actually sending a message to some states and then to another country all within a matter of seconds to have access to that website you are requesting to go on. The things I would tell other people they need to know about having an ISP/Home Network is that they should know where the internet provider in the house or building is and how everything is connected.
