Second Slide - Media Fluency Frankie Murphy

Posted by Francesca Murphy in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - y1 on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 11:27 am

What my project consists of is my second-draft slide of our Me Slides. My slide says '80's for Life' because I love the 80's and lots of my favorite music, movies, and clothes come from that decade. What I learned from our presentations is that you can make a statement by staggering things, playing with font sizes, and by adding simple photos of representation. The feedback I got from students was that originally, my slide was a little crowded and had a blurry photo in the background which wasn't good.
Information from resources that make sense with the changes I made is that from Ted.com saying that the bigger the font, the better and that you shouldn't crowd your slide with too many words. I used this tip to my advantage by spreading out the words to leave a mark on the audience, while only having three words. I also kept a color theme, so that all the aspects of the slide tie together nicely.

Destiny Patton Originality Slide

Posted by Destiny Patton in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - y1 on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 11:16 am

This slide is a representation of how it can be hard to be original and to be yourself but, you can do it. This relates to me because sometimes you feel pressured by your peers to like the things that they like and do the things that they do. I decided to make it stand out visually by using red. I was inspired by quotes like ¨Be a fruit loop and a bowl full of cheerios.¨ but, this is my take on it. I changed my slide by making it less busy and focusing on the bigger message. Basically, everyone is all different shapes, sizes, and backgrounds but, some groups of people all act the same to please each other. And even though you’re the same shape as them or come from the same background, you stand out. And that’s what I’m trying to portray visually and for you to think about mentally.

LaBrum, Harrison

Me
I decided to create a slide that was completely antithetical to what's considered good design. Text is overlapping, images are stretched out of proportion; overall it's schizophrenic and disorderly. In reality this was born from my laziness and refusal to complete the assignment but I decided that I might as well turn it into a guide of What Not to do While Creating a Presentation. However I think this slide represents me in a much more personal and realistic way that any clean and simple one might. It's unorganized, has no linear thought process; it's just a collage of ideas, images and unfunny in-jokes. I like to think that last sentence properly describes me as well. One of the concepts that came to me while finishing this up was that a slide shouldn't just talk about or show who you are, it should be your parallel. It should be designed so that when it's being described, adjectives and ideas should be shared with it and you.

I also created a second slide. This was when I realized that this stuff is graded and i can't just turn in some sub par project and call it "muh artistic achievement". The second one was a parody of sort on the whole "inspirational image and SUPER DEEP QUOTE" style, but also holds a personal truth of mine.

Nisa: Do You.

I created this slide the way I did because It shows that you can pretty much do anything you desire, no matter what people say. its only going to affect you in the end, not them. I also chose this because the font is the first thing you would see. Its big, bold but simple- something that would catch your eye. It then leads to the pictures, and the background, which is in good contrast with everything. The pictures tell a few things about me, what and who I like, and it is pretty self explanatory when it comes to how the slide is original. I didn't make a slide with anything too overbearing, just something original but with depth. The pictures are also not too small, as that causes you to forget what the slide was supposed to be about, because you are too engaged in what's happening the sides and bottom and middle.. and stray from the topic. The pictures also do not interfere with one another. They are all coloured and hold meaning, and they all correlate with the concept.

"WHATEVER"

Posted by Mohamed Bah in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - y1 on Monday, December 8, 2014 at 10:03 am

Tech Slide
My original concept for my slide was to base it around contrast and making things stand out. I started off with a green-almost-black background and put atop of it neon colored words that stand out not only because of the background's dark color, but because the words contrast each other. Dots around the words simulate isolated thoughts, but are also an excuse to make the words stand out even more due to them being either darker toned versions of the words' colors or a contrasting color. The arrow piercing through the slide can catch the viewers eye for three reasons: one being the fact that it's bleeding off of the slide, two being the pink neon "WHATEVER" plastered across it, and three being that it is considerate of the rule of thirds, being placed in a position that would be more likely to be immediately noticed by the viewer, forming an eye-catching setup to the slide.

Frankie: 80's For Life!

Posted by Francesca Murphy in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - y1 on Monday, November 24, 2014 at 7:37 pm

My theme for this slide was the 80’s because I love and identify with that decade. I chose the border for my slide because it was very colorful, bright, and full of neon; just like many things out of the 80’s. To go with it, I also colored my text paler because I know those colors also appear in the 80’s a lot, and I love colors of the rainbow. I chose that kind of font for my slide because this is my favorite type of font I’ve seen out of the 80’s. I chose to write ‘80’s For Life’ because it is a short message that I think of as an anthem for myself. I spent time to cut out that picture of the Breakfast Club and made it purple on a black background because the purple matches some of the text color and you always see big, colorful words on black backgrounds in the 80’s. The Breakfast Club is my favorite 80’s movie, so when I thought of adding them to my slide it was perfect because that picture is also really cool.

I decided to make the border, background picture, and text all match with rainbow colors because it allowed me to have many exciting elements but keep a common theme. I made one key point on my slide with my text because less is always more when it comes to text (according to Ted.com). I added the background picture to emphasise the 80’s theme, but had one key picture so that there was still lots of empty space in my slide. Finally, I made the background black and purple to contrast all the bright, rainbow colors and make them pop. All of these visual decisions help convey one theme when people see it: the 80’s, which is what I was aiming for. I did not overload my slide with tedious details, but made the most important aspects pop out so that you really get the message and soak it all in.

This slide represent the 2 main activities that express me. The title is called Step Up its a movie that has dance offs and dance battles. These pictures explain the moves I do when im dancing and it describes my passion of how I like cheerleading and dancing. I used the cheerleading pictures to explain the move I used when im up at cheer offs and ready to cheer. I used the dancing pictures to explain of the moves I used. My title is large bolded text so it can bring the slide out and catch the person eye. This slide express me as much as my personality.

¨DONT JUDGE¨ By: Jaszmine Randle

Behind A Slide

The significance behind my slide is to prove against judgemental view points. Before children even can decide what they want to be in life they get categorized as the kid with the big head or the ugly child because of their appearances. You cant make a stereotype about a child that is unknown. You should not do that to a child since they are not known in the world yet. For example people judge ¨Blue Ivy¨ & ¨North West¨ because of their parents backgrounds & their appearances. No one even knows what they're going to be in life.

The way I designed my slide was using ¨MAKE TYPE BIG¨ I made sure that my text was big on my slide. I ¨MADE IT VISUAL¨ because I made sure that my quote was visual and I got my point across with a few words¨. Creating this slide helped me learn the different ways to create a billboard. A billboard can be as detailed as you want  or described in 3 words. Presentation is the key to a good billboard because however you look at the billboard unless its well designed you can't’ get your point across.

Athalia's Slide

Posted by Athalia Tan in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - y1 on Monday, November 24, 2014 at 11:44 am

I chose to make my slide like that for many reasons. One reason is that I chose to use large text and I decided to manage my space so it wouldn't be too crowded. I also made some of my pictures bleed off the slide because not the full picture should be used. I wrote "Express Yourself" in red because I think that it would catch people's attention if it was on a billboard. It contrast with the light background which catches the eye. The pictures shows what I like which expresses me; myself. I like things simple but meaningful so I decided to make my slide not too flashy but resembles what I like. I sing and dance at church, so it became a hobby for me. I like working and helping out little kids, they're always make someone smile. I love chilling out with my friends and watch movies. Music and shopping is just my thing! I love music because everyone can relate to them and shopping is always fun.

I also use bold text to grab the attention of the viewer and make sure the viewer will pay attention to the most important parts. Also, I made the background kind of a grey fade so the star can stand out a little bit more. I chose this design because I was inspired by quotes like ¨Be a fruit loop and a bowl full of cheerios.¨ but, this is my take on it.
