Nyla's Tech Slide
Hi my name is Nyla Moore and this is my slide. I chose to pick 3 pictures to represent me because I didnt want to clutter my slide and I could make the pictures bigger. I chose this background because it was colorful but it didnt take away from the theme or other pictures of the slide. I chose this saying because it was short and straight to the point. I decided to make the word  "Nobody" and "me" bold to make the phrase stand out. I chose to make the words different colors to create contrast. I left some open space so my slide would not look cluttered. My slide has a visual theme, even though there are different pictures. My theme is that there is nobody else like me and the pictures represent the things I like to do. Hope you enjoy my silde!
During my presentation, I was given great advice on how to improve my slide. I was told to match the colors in the picture to the words quote I had. I was also told to delete the pictures and to find a clear picture for the background. I did all of this to my project. These tips made my slide easier to understand and a lot better.

Griffins Slide
I made my slide the way it was so it would be easy to remember after only a glance. I left lots of space so your eyes are drawn to the red text that pops from the white background and black text.  I also added the picture for people who don't understand the saying. Fishing is my passion there's nothing in the world I'd rather be doing.

The reason that i chose this picture for the slide is i believe that is had a good backing to simplicity and also it showed my view point. I belive that if you believe in something, everything that you are doing should be working towards that goal. This is shown in my slide because i have a quote by will smith that says if you have a dream, every penny of yours has to be working towards that goal.
Another reason i chose this picture is because it shows a baseball field, this is something i am passionate about. This is something that i want to work my whole life at, and put in the maximum effort that i can. My baseball dreams and passions tie into the quote because this really shows that i want to put in as much effort and money and time as i can into baseball. This really represents me, baseball and hard work. Effort and dedication is what describes my personality. My slide not only shows simplicity, but also a complex sense.

Cassie's tech slide

Tech- media project (1)

My slide means that I use many different perspectives when I view things in our world. My slide makes up one point in Zens article he says when “feature a single item at a large size — it gets noticed, read, and remembered” and thats what I did with the word “perspective” and the picture. I displayed the type in a big font to get attention and my point across. I contrasted both the picture and the slide; the picture has a dark foreground and the the sky is bright and clear. The slide is bright white and then has the dark words on the side. I use empty space to draw the eyes to the picture and the word on the side. This slide uses many of of the lessons zen talks about, I hope you learned enough about the design in my slide to know about me.

Darius Purnell Q2:Media Fluency Slide

I am greatness. Three simple words that could mean a lot to a person. I believe these words describe every ounce of me. Many people know thought I wouldn’t make it far into the second quarter of my first year of high school. They thought it would be way too hard for me and expected for me to fail. But I AM GREATNESS. I have talents and skills that might not show. But I AM GREATNESS. My passion is creative writing including poetry and stories. I may not be as good as others now, but just watch you never know. My goal is to be the next Tyler Perry. I hope to be nominated against him for an award it doesn’t matter which of the two of us win. I just want the feeling that I’m just as good as my idol and hero. Tyler Perry is able to relate to everyone’s experiences or change someone’s mind set in each of his work, I plan to do the same. I have faith in myself, I trust myself. I believe… I AM GREATNESS!

Darius Purnell I AM GREATNESS (2)
What i changed about my slide was the picture, text, and background color. With the picture i moved it over to the right and increased the size. Originally i was trying to make the picture bleed but people told me to just move it over and have the full picture. Also i moved the text over. I originally had it as a staircase form but i moved it so it had a pyramid form. Next i changed the color of the background from a dark popping blue to a glistening red. The blue wasnt working well with the text since it  was black so it was hard on the eyes. So i change it to red to calm down the eyes. From this presentation i learned that more eyes on ur work can help you to benifit the output

Vaughn's Q2 Media Fluency Slide

Posted by Vaughn Matthews in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - y1 on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 7:47 am

My slide is on track. I chose track because track is one of my favorite sports. I run track and I love track with a passion. Alot of people I know have been running track for a long time and love track like  I do. I chose to put Usain Bolt in my picture because he is a role model to athletes who run track and he is very fast and athletic.I love track because when I see how bad I am at any other sport, I look back and see how good I am at track. You win some, and you lose some. Lose or win, when I run track, I always feel like I'm a winner.

I made two changes to my slide. My first change was the font of the words. I changed the font because I didn't like the font and I thought it should be bigger so it would look better with the picture. The second change I made, was the color of the words. I changed the colors of the words because people suggested that I should change the color. So I changed the color, so it would flow with the the lights behind and around  the runner, Usain Bolt. I learned that font makes the slide really noticeable and color is important.

Shaina Keenan Q2 Media Fluency Slide

Posted by Shaina-Nicole Keenan in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - y1 on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 11:26 pm

Shaina Keenan, Slide #1
Hi, I am Shaina Keenan. To begin with, I utilized my own photography to make my slide visually appealing. Next, the point of my slide is to present one of the many parts of my life, taking pictures. I used my quote from my Me Magazine, because it is short, sweet, and gets the point across to the audience. For example, I love to capture small things such as flowers, because they are simple yet beautiful things that we all walk by everyday. As Presentation Zen suggested, I was not a wimp about the size of my font; I did not make it too big or too small. For my contrast segment, I chose the classic black and white theme, with hints of pale blue and gray; I really wanted the pictures to stand out. Furthermore, I did not want the placement of the pictures to JUST be side by side or perfectly centered on the slide; that is BORING. Therefore, I made the decision to have the pictures bleed over the bottom and side, a little. Lastly, as one of my final decisions that I made about the slide design is the information that it would consist, along with the space it would take up. I did not want too much empty space, so I made the font and picture sizes larger. Also, it allows the information to pop, and the slide to not be to boring or empty.
Shaina Keenan, Re-Slide
As a second part to our Quarter Two Media Fluency slide, we were to create a second slide based off of our feedback from the presentation. I learned a lot of new vocabulary from Presentation Zen and my fellow classmates. I learned such things contrast, rule of thirds, and more. This new information and vocabulary has led me to reviewing and critiquing other billboards and advertisements.

Reflection

Based on the feedback from my classmates and Technology teacher I have ended with one final product. I received a little amount of feedback, but it was very helpful. Ella and Ameena commented that I should change the positioning of my quote. Also, I was told the colors, and choice to bleed were strong and good. Therefore, I changed the positioning of my quote, and just removed my name and the quotations. I did not touch any colors or any of the pictures! Along with the vocabulary, I learned that your peers can truly support you to help you produce a better product, and become a stronger student.

Ella Donesky's Media Fluency Slide

Posted by Ella Donesky in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - y1 on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 10:25 pm

My slide represents my love of music, especially The Beatles and other oldies bands, and also my fascination with beetles and other insects. In the middle of the slide, is a quote from one of my favorite Beatles songs, that represents something I value.

The composition of my slide consists of decisions I made about the type, contrast, color, visuals, space, theme, and organization of the images. I knew which images I wanted to incorporate in my slide, and my main focus was to arrange them creatively, while also following the rules of composition. I chose a black and white Beatles image, and decided to tilt it on one side. This was mainly because I thought it was more creative than having it right side up, and because I didn’t think that you needed to see the image clearly to recognize who they are. Also, I didn’t want to have “floating images,” and I wanted to leave some space on the slide, so I pushed the image to the right side. I wanted to represent a single theme in my slide, so I decided to play on the word “beetle” and show the other side of what that word meant to me. I incorporated my fascination with beetles. I chose to put the images of the beetles on the left side of my slide, to balance the placement of the images, and to show more clearly the nature of the opposite meanings, but similar sounding words. There were no more images that I wanted to add, so I left it as it is. I thought of adding more, but decided not to, because I didn’t want to cram the space and give less attention to the images, individually. My last step was to add the text. I put the text in the middle, balancing the placement of all the pieces, while also following the rule of thirds. I chose the text size in the slide, because I wanted it to stand out, but not overpower the images. Originally, the text was black, the images were black and white, and the background was white, but I realized that I didn’t include any color in my slide, so it wasn’t very eye catching. When I thought about where I should add the color, I decided to add it to the text, because it contrasted between the color of the text and the color of the images, and the actual piece of text and image. The color I chose is orange, because orange is my favorite color, and it creates a visually appealing color scheme. I arranged the orange box, with the quote inside it, in the middle of the slide. Vertically, I placed it directly over Paul and Ringo’s heads, lining up with the ends of their heads. This creates an even and balanced composition throughout the slide.

I apologize for the cut-off image of The Beatles. I don't know what happened there.

Rifah's Islam Media Fluency Slide (1)
Hi! I’m Rifah Islam and this slide is about one major influence in my life. My ohana, or family is very special and important to me. This slide is dedicated to my family. Anyway, I designed the slide to made the it look the way it is for a couple reasons. I tried to make the slide visual, focused and understood by just one glance. I also tried to achieve good contrast in my slide. To do so, I kept text to a minimum and one picture. Since I only have three words and one picture, I needed them to be captivating and memorable. To make the text both easy to understand and eye catching, I used the largest font size for the word ‘Ohana’. Then, I made the definition of  ‘Ohana’ (‘means family’) only two sizes smaller. I kept the text plain all black, so there is also a fair amount of attention going towards the picture. The picture I tried to keep very simple, yet compelling. I used a white as my background color so that the beautiful blue of Stitch’s skin stands out. Finally, I used the rule of thirds to help me while arranging my slide. I kept some parts of my slides empty, to add some balance. I didn’t want my slide to be overpowering. That’s why I designed the slide the way I did. Thank you for taking the time to listen (or read) to me talk (or write) about my slide and it’s design!
Rifah's Islam Media Fluency Slide (2)
After presenting my media fluency slide to the class and receiving feedback, I changed my slide just a bit. Since I had gotten mostly positive feedback about my slide (thankfully!), I didn't want to change it too much. I kept the sizes of the text, the font, the spacing and the centered text and picture the same as before. I just switched the side the picture and text was on. Now it looks like the Stitch is looking at and the heart is pointing towards the text. This gives the slide a nice transition from the picture to the text. Thanks for all the great feedback! I hope that I was able to change the slide for the better.
