Joan's Zucchini Bread

Posted by Cassandra Hand-Northrop in Science and Society · Best · E Band on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 9:25 pm

Ingredients:

2 cups zucchini raw, peeled and shredded

3 eggs

1.5 cup sugur

.5 cup honey

1 cup applesauce

1 cup coconut oil

3 cups flower

1 teaspoon baking soda

3 tablespoons cinnamon

Instructions:

Mix all ingredients

Cook for 45 mins at 350 degrease

Check center with toothpick

Cool for 10 mins

My mom make zucchini bread all the time, and I've always loved it. This recipe has a lot of whole foods but still some processed ones. sugar, applesauce, and flower are all processed while; the zucchini, eggs, honey, baking soda, and cinnamon are all whole foods. The only ingredient I wasn't sure about was the coconut oil. All coconut oils taste different, but are still very similar. The actual oil comes from the flesh of the coconut and its extracted at high temperatures not being processed, making it a whole food!

Fifty is better than One

A comparison of the movie 50 first dates and the play the taming of the shrew

I will be talking about the main male characters in both the movie and the play. I will be comparing and contrasting the methods they use to win over their love interests.

In the movie 50 First dates, the main character Henry Roth (played by Adam Sandler) has to work to win over his love by taking her on a 50 first dates. He has to do this because she has short term memory loss and forgets him by the next morning. This is completely different than the method used by Petruchio in The Taming of the Shrew, Petruchio manipulates his love interest Katherine by “taming her” and withholds things from her. He tries to win over his love interest through manipulation, whereas Roth from 50 first dates allows his infatuation to guide him.

These texts are similar because in both they demonstrate how one can try and use different tactics to win over a love interest. Even if they go about it in greatly different manners, the dedication is still the same.

In act four, Petruchio is having a conversation with Grumio about what he is planning to do to make Katherine more obedient.

PETRUCIO

“That bate and beat will not be obedient.

She ate no meat today, nor none shall eat.

Last night she slept not, nor tonight she shall not.

…

This is a way to kill my wife with kindness.

And thus I’ll curb her mad and headstrong humor.

He that knows better how to tame a shrew,

Now let him speak: ‘tis charity to shrew.”

This quote from Taming of the Shrew demonstrates his ruthless disregard for the woman he supposedly is in love with. He is showing how selfish he is by making sure his own needs are cared for while not considering hers, and actually withholding basic needs from her.

In this screenshot, it is easy to see that Henry is willing to go to any length to win over Lucy. He attempts to win her over everyday and uses a different and creative method to do so. Here he attempts to discover what she loves and in giving her lilies, he also gives her a movie that had taken a lot of effort to show her what is going on in her life. Henry goes above and beyond every day to win her love and is successful.

The main difference between the idea of courtship in the movie and the play is that in the movie Henry actually loves Lucy the way she is and follows his heart to win her over. In the play however, Petruchio has more of an obsession and wants Katherine to be a certain way and tries to tame her to his specifications.

Mother & Father

Posted by Cassandra Hand-Northrop in English 3 - Pahomov - D on Sunday, February 7, 2016 at 6:59 pm

Joan Catherine Hand was twenty-something when she met Matthew Northrop. I don’t know where they met -- I never asked. All I know is what she has told me -- that they were together, and my mom found out she was pregnant sometime after that. She wanted to keep me, so my grandparents made her get married, because they’re catholic, and they said “you can’t have a kid and not be married.”

So my mom had to get married. And he turned out to be really controlling and abusive. She couldn’t do anything or have any friends. She was stuck in this horrible situation.

She called my grandparents. THey picked her up one day when he wasn’t home, and then she went ahead and got a divorce without him.

It was an awful living situation. “This isn’t how I want my child to grow up.”

I was only eight months old when all this happened.

Part 2: your discovery of the backstory

My mom met my step-dad when I was three. I would always ask questions, because I knew he wasn’t my real father. I probably started asking about the story in earnest when I was ten, around the age when I could comprehend everything. this the

Part 3: sorting out your feelings of the story

I had the hyphenated name, and it really bothered me. “Who is this? Why is this bad person a part of my name?” I really questioned it. When I was younger, I really didn’t want the name Northrop on anything.

Part 4: how you feel now

I feel like my mom did well with raising me without my father. I always knew that he was a part of my life, but he wasn’t a good guy to my mom, and I wouldn’t want a person like that around all the time.

there was this one time when i was maybe 13 when i was spending some time on facebook. i somehow came across the people that were blocked by my account, and one of the names was Matthew Northrop. i sat there pondering whether i should unlock him or not for a while. i clicked it, and freaked. i was scared, what if i did something bad? would my mom get mad at me?

i was suddenly became very curious, i just really wanted to know who he was. i quickly went to the facebook search bar and slowly typed in “Matthew Northrop” tons of results showed up. i did know who it was so i picked the one that made the most since. it turned out he had a whole another

Cassie's tech slide

Posted by Cassandra Hand-Northrop in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - y1 on Monday, December 9, 2013 at 10:26 am
Tech- media project (1)

My slide means that I use many different perspectives when I view things in our world. My slide makes up one point in Zens article he says when “feature a single item at a large size — it gets noticed, read, and remembered” and thats what I did with the word “perspective” and the picture. I displayed the type in a big font to get attention and my point across. I contrasted both the picture and the slide; the picture has a dark foreground and the the sky is bright and clear. The slide is bright white and then has the dark words on the side. I use empty space to draw the eyes to the picture and the word on the side. This slide uses many of of the lessons zen talks about, I hope you learned enough about the design in my slide to know about me.
