For my Capstone, I wanted to apply all of the knowledge in various different engineering subjects topics I have gained throughout the entire course of the CTE Engineering program. I wanted to create a project that would demonstrate how anyone could create something for themselves while still being environmentally conscious and economically feasible just by learning engineering skills. I wanted to demonstrate this process by going through all of the steps of theoretically building a tiny house. My deliverable is essentially a “how to” guide on all of the different aspects and components to building a tiny house. This project is geared towards educating people on not just how they can build a tiny house but how they can take this process apply it to almost anything in their life. The goal of this project is for someone with little to no construction experience to follow this guide and actually build anything they wanted. This process of gathering the right materials and constructing by yourself could be for something as small as a birdhouse to something as significant as your own home. In order to complete this project I had to do thorough research on the process of construction a house, how to apply that into process to work in tiny house, and also how to gather so many essential materials that fall under the criteria.

For my capstone I decided to combine my passion and problem solving skills. I decide to do my capstone on hair and to showcase the different styles. I wanted my capstone to be something I enjoyed doing as well of something I can see the results of right away. So I went with my love of doing hair. Although capstone was only required 80 hours I enjoyed it so much that I did 250 hours. The joy of solving people hair problem such is there hair being to short to braid or even bald spots they want to grow up and watching them look in the mirror after and seeing them smile and the confidence boost made it all worth it which now inspired me turn it into a business page name Crowned Confidence. youtube.com/watch?v=4OowFS8MuiI

For my Capstone, I 3-D printed a Zen Garden Tray for children who had symptoms of anxiety or showed signs of inattentiveness and impulsivity. since I also wanted to incorporate Psychology and Engineering into my Capstone, I designed my Tray to appeal to 1 of the 5 senses. by appealing to 1 of the 5 senses, my design would teach children how to be calm and mindful.

It would also teach children a grounding technique, and possibly inspire them to do something Engineering-related. on the back of each design would be instructions, showing step-by-step instructions on how to design the product.

My capstone project is about the engineering design process and how I used it to showcase aspects of footwear designing. Throughout this project you will see the ups and downs I took within the process of designing a shoe, and other ideas that related to it. Overall this project shows an idea of how engineers go through the design process and how it is used.

For my capstone, I combined my love of writing with my love of my heritage and background. I know my parents immigrated here to give us a better life so I decided to research the reasons behind that in order to make a story. I specifically studied politics in Togo at the time of my parent's growing up and how it is now. I also based the story loosely on the life of my mom and how she came to be in America. This is just one chapter of many of a book I hope I’ll be able to finish someday. Here is an excerpt from the story: “ It is unfortunate because as a woman, you can marry into wealth, but as a man, you have to build everything yourself. Women should not seek men who are born into poverty because they are more than likely to stay there. My mom wants me to marry into money so I can bring my brothers into it so that they too can find wives.”

My capstone project was finding a way to allow dancers, like myself, have a safe practice space at home. Dancing at home can be dangerous if you do not have the proper equipment. I did research and used previous knowledge to help me gather what makes a ballet studio. During the process I had a Braskem mentor who I met with frequently. She helped advance and expand my ideas to creating an affordable at home studio for dancers. https://youtu.be/VHqFyeXkPxw https://docs.google.com/document/d/16vojxsQaemirLrezmfehbJVW4kVjKn_n2D4eCRErb10/edit?usp=sharing

What I wanted to focus in my capstone Project was People having a not so happy day and help them also learn physics. In my Idea I specifically targeted to teach people physics but if I where to be requested to teach people something else I would go for that, But I also do what it to be or feel like the people using it or around it be forced to learn physics, which is why if I had more time in the building to laser cut this and paint it and make it feel more comfortable and so people would not feel force to learn what the board is teaching them. If I could make a physical one and put it up some where I would I also want to make sure it where people are both welcome to use it and learn something or just use it because it is fun and they are having a very stressful day. I would also encourage all people to enjoy it, not just people who are having a bad day, because if more people use it then it will encourage the people who really need it to relief all they're stress. For my Capstone, I wanted to use my Arduino skills and knowledge of electrical engineering to create a quadcopter/drone and give it away to some charitable organization. My path, however, was riddled with many roadblocks, I tried reaching out to various toy donation organizations and asked if I would be able to give this project away, and sadly most were not currently accepting any toy donations due to the COVID-19 public health crisis and because of the chance of it becoming a fire hazard. When all hope seemed lost, I found an organization willing to help my cause, the National Public Safety Drone Donation Program, this organization creates and accepts donations for drones that can be used by mainly firefighters and different fire departments to save lives. They told me they would willing to take my drone and I also left a cash donation for their cause. My final product for my Senior Capstone is the images of the steps I took to make my drone/quadcopter and the receipt of my donation to the National Public Safety Drone Donation Program. I hope my donation and project can be used to help fire departments save a family or someone who is in harm’s way.

For my capstone project, I wanted to bring people together during COVID-19 to help a community in need. After working closely with Easterseals for two years, I knew that I wanted my capstone to involve them as their mission statement is one that I relate to heavily. The end result of my project was to have fully adapted toys to give to Easterseals. While the event has not happened yet, the website I've created stands as a place for the event mission, instructions, materials list, and why this event is so important to me. Growing up with special needs myself, even the simplest of things needed to be adapted for me, so in a way, I understand what these kids are going through. The children these toys will be going to have faced more challenges than most adults will ever, and to even put a smile on their face was the ultimate reward. My goal for the website and the event is that it can be done again for years to come. There is always a need for adapted toys at Easterseals even if they never ask for them. Adapting a toy also teaches basic engineering skills, which as an engineering student is something that I'd love to see other students learn. With all of this, I hope this event becomes an SLA regular and will forever provide the children of Easterseals with countless smiles. Kankoue Folly Capstone

To be an engineer is to be committed to expressing yourself unapologetically. That is what I believe. Last year, I was worried about what I wanted my capstone to focus on. I was thinking everything engineering, traditional engineering. However, after some meaningful class discussions with Mr. Ugworji, I concluded the best capstone would be something I would do in my own free time.

So I decided to focus my capstone around Fashion. Something I knew very little about when it comes to production and its direct relation to engineering.

After intensive research, I came across Virgil Abloh, a Mechanical Engineer, Founder of Off-White, and Creative Director of Louis Vuitton. Virgil helped me understand how I can use engineering concepts to aid my clothing designs.

I quickly realized that Virgil specializes in Deconstruction, an aesthetic that sheds more spotlight on the materials that make up the final product. Deconstruction is very similar to reconstruction, the aesthetic I emulate, directly influenced by my favorite designer house Sacai.

So why?

Well, we need more engineers in Fashion. Clothes production is one of the leading causes of the climate crisis. To produce one T-Shirt, it takes 40 gallons of water. So during the early stages of my capstone, I decided to work with second-hand clothing. I, alongside my brother, started a collective that focuses on using old materials and creating something new. This leads to a reconstruction aesthetic and a less polluted environment. Although I faced many difficulties while finishing this capstone(such as breaking my sewing machine three times and deciding to just hand stitch), I persevered, and I am glad to say I made something I am proud of.
