For my Capstone, I wanted to research how effective online learning actually is. I used research from 3 different sources to learn new crochet patterns and make 3 different items. I was able to learn 2 completely new patterns from this over the course of a few months. and was able to become more comfortable learning with certain media online. links- capstone products- https://docs.google.com/document/d/1y5HAdSUwjgx5DAvu-Lg4TY5NB6eHVllHmv6Gl3BFYis/edit?usp=sharing bibliography - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Pw1_6TWwRHSo_hIMdudA-CjUn3IP-eZ07iKie50RFbk/edit?usp=sharing

Ethan Friedman - Capstone

For my Capstone, I created an application that brought together my love for programming and problem-solving. I created a desktop application for SLA teachers to allow them to manage their student rosters by class. It allows them to create a visual representation of the classroom’s layout along with student profiles for easy access. I was able to learn a completely new programming language over the course of the last 5-6 months and apply it to this project. Computer Software is one of those things that can never be “completed”. This application will forever be a work in progress as there are always new features to include.

Mo Kelly Capstone

For my capstone, I wanted to do something that explored the question of “How can we connect with other cultures and have meaningful experiences through a pandemic?” Through my experience with the SLA exchange program to Poland, I learned to understand the true value of connection with places different than our own and the importance of creating a community full of diversity. Because of the pandemic, I knew that the typical exchange programs would not be able to continue, but I knew there were still ways to have these same experiences, even in our own homes. With the help of my mentor, Ms. Giknis, I was able to connect with a group of people from the Rudolph Brandeis Gymnasium, a school in Germany. With a group of SLA students and our partners from Germany, we designed a tapestry depicting our core values of community and connection and are currently working on putting it all together.

While the Tapestry isn’t fully finished, I have compiled a few documents to show the work I’ve put into this project for the last couple of months. I have a google drive with photos showing the process of assembling the tapestry, and a google doc of research for the design on the tapestry.

The idea for my Capstone was to create a pop-up book answering the question “In what ways can art be interactive?” My final pop-up book, Die Papiertänzerin “the paper dancer” : An Interactive Art Exhibit uses a variety of interactive story telling techniques greatly inspired by White Noise (David A. Carter), and Bauhaus Ballet: A Pop-Up Performance (Gabby Dawnay and Barnes Lesley). Bauhaus artist Oskar Schlemmer’s work was also a great influence in the designs of the pages. To create my book I mainly used Adobe Photoshop and a Cricut Explore Air 2 (which I had to learn to use). The designs of each page were drawn out and then further developed in three stages until they were finalized digitally to be cut by Cricut. Throughout the process I also received feedback from Ms. Alvarez, Ms. Leaness, and Ms. Giknis (my mentor) on the progression of my book.

Tyler Carter's Capstone

My Capstone Project is about my challenges of having autism and ADHD. First, I made a Google Doc outline the research that I planned to do and what my project would be. I interviewed my Mom, my developmental pediatrician, and my former TSS worker to get some information on my earlier years. I decided to make Google Slides as well as a website. It was a lot of work but I got it. I hope that people learn a lot from it.
