Print Making

Posted by James Prell in Art - 9 - Hull on Monday, June 13, 2011 at 9:21 am

For this project we printed out an element of the periodic table. My element was Cadmium with the atomic number 48.
Making the print was a long process, first we drew the print-mine was a television because cadmium is used in the cables-then, we carved the same drawing into a tablet and covered it with paint. After this we made four different prints, three we gave a border and one we used to make a large periodic table.

Periodic Table Printmaking Project

Posted by Seamus Kirby in Art - 9 - Hull on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 12:01 pm

In this project we were assigned an element, I was given zinc, and we had to create a print of something to do with that element and glue it onto a giant collaborative periodic table. We each drew three sketches of things we might print, and we had to choose our favorite. My favorite one that I drew was metal casting, which is one of the uses of zinc. We then transferred those sketches onto linoleum blocks, and cut out either the negative or positive space. After we finished cutting the block we had to print the block three times, and mat all three. Our final step in the project was to glue our best print to the periodic table the two classes doing this project were creating.

Seamus Kirby Negative Space

Posted by Seamus Kirby in Art - 9 - Hull on Monday, April 25, 2011 at 10:07 am

Negative space is what you get when you take a picture, remove the objects in the front of the picture, and the space that's left in between the spaces of the object and around it, is the negative space. It is basically the background of the image. The negative space in my cutout is the red on the left side, and the blue on the right side. I found the negative space in the stool drawing, by looking at the shapes inside of the stools, and drew those. It helps an artist to see negative space, because it allows them to see objects and scenes in two different ways. It does enhance drawings because it can add contrast into the drawing.

Single Point Perspective Roth

Posted by Michael Roth in Art - 9 - Hull on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 5:58 pm

For this project, we chose a wall of the art room and drew it from one perspective. The purpose of this was for us to learn about 3d drawing and what makes things look 3d. First, I looked at the back wall and guessed its approximate length relative to my drawing paper. Then, I found the center of my paper and marked it. I then drew the wall to the size that I had decided to use. After that, I drew lines going towards the vanishing point (orthogonal lines) from the corners of the far wall to the edges of the page. I made marks where each ceiling tile would start and end, then drew an orthogonal line through each mark. Next, I made a line from one top corner of the far wall to the oposite top corner of the paper, and then drew horizontal lines where each orthogonal intersected it. I then erased that line, and added in the windows and other details. One artist who I think did particularly well is Seamus Kirby. Since he chose to draw a more complicated wall, the way that he made the back area of the room was impressive.

Art Studio

Posted by Jasmin Hussain in Art - 9 - Hull on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 10:28 am

In Red Art, we first started to draw with horizontal, vertical, and orthaganol lines. We also used the vanishing point to make everything 3D and more precise. After drawing lines we practiced how to draw 3D objects such as doors and windows by drawing a bedroom. We continued to draw with vertical lines and vanishing points. After drawing rooms we progressed on to a even bigger project. We started drawing a large drawing of the Art Studio. Below is the picture of the drawing. The vanishing point is inside the smart board which is the back wall of my drawing. I had to use my vanishing point to draw a line to draw two more walls on both sides of the back wall and the ceiling. It was very difficult to draw the lines to make them more accurate since we couldn't depend on using out own eye to draw. We had to use the vanishing point for support instead. It was easier to learn where each wall was an how to draw them.

A good example of a drawing that was exceptional in this project would be James's drawing. He understand how to draw the different walls using the vanishing point.

Art Room

Posted by Laura De Jesús in Art - 9 - Hull on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 10:23 am

Well the project started by the square in the middle of the paper and then the point of intersection. We had to make the ceiling tiles and the above first, it was mainly just using the different types of lines and shapes.
The way i planned out to complete my project was i would finish a certain part every class but it didn't work out that way. I finished the beginning but when it came to the bottom. So it kinda evened out.
The easiest part was the lining being the fact that I had art last year I am familiar with it all. Also where the placement was that was easy as well.
The hardest part to learn draw was the putting all the details in the objects like in the window the blinds were difficult to draw. And the ceiling tiles were had to get straight but i I tried my best.
Victoria Odom
I chose Victorias because I think hers was well done. The way her picture came out in the end was perfect and the fact that she helped me made it even better, She has potential!

Art Class

Posted by Zaria Fortson-Linton in Art - 9 - Hull on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 10:21 am

The project that we did was based on us learning about perspective, 3 dimensional squares and also how to make a square equal in the middle of a page.

T
he process I used to complete this project was to use what we were taught about making squares and the perspective point to make the ceiling, the back round and the tables. it was hard because i wasn't use to drawling like this and because i lost my paper last minute and had to restart all over again today.

The person who's project that I thought was very good was Victoria Odom's. I think this because its not only neat and completed, she took her time and she was close to finishing it. It was clear and she worked very hard on it and you can tell.

Danielle Little's Room.

Posted by Danielle Little in Art - 9 - Hull on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 10:18 am

In Art class we focus on drawling simple shapes, to create a bigger master piece. Our assignment was to draw the Art Studio, veiwng from one part of the room.
First  we had to locate the center of the paper. Once you find the cnt point you had to create a rectangle equally around the center point. After you make the rectangle, you have to create the ceiling tiles. Next, you draw all the windows and blinds. Later you draw in all the details of the room, using the shapes and methods we learned.
The easy part about this part was actually drawling. The hard part was understanding how to draw each shape as it needs to be.

Gabe Beresin, complete the assignment very well. His details of the room are on point.
Gabe's Drawling, is a prime example to the assignment. He showed details in each little part of the room. His ceiling, and windows is well designed.

Three dimensional drawing

Posted by Isabela Supovitz-Aznar in Art - 9 - Hull on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 10:17 am

This is my drawing of the farthest wall on right of my art class. What we did for this project was we learned the measurements for a room, and how to draw them realistically on a piece of paper. we used rulers, and had to include everything in our drawings (three dimensionally) to make it look as realistically as possible.  I drew the table in the center back of the room, the ceiling as it'd be seen from a three dimensional view, and the window shades above the table!!

Tyanna Pleasant art room

Posted by Tyanna Pleasant in Art - 9 - Hull on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 10:16 am

We started this project with practicing drawing regular 3-dimensional boxes, and using the middle of the page as our point of perspective where everything will eventually meet up in the room. Then I looked at weather each of the objects that I drew in the room has a part that sticks out or that comes out of the wall because I have to make it look 3-dimensional. I drew the part that would be apart of the wall so basically the 2-dimensional stuff, then added the 3-dimensional things <the things that has to look like its jumping off the page.  I did this by Making lines meet up at the point of perspective, the center of the page.
The easiest thing to earn was drawing the strait lines that goes towards the point of perspective and finding the point of perspective.
The hardest thing to learn was how to make the items look 3-dimensional and knowing where to place each item I have to draw.
An artist in my class that i think understood it well was Victoria Odom.
She completed most of her project and she made everything look realistic. It looks like the actual room and everything is popping out of her page.
