Portfolio For Fashion

Posted by Zillah Hernandez in Capstone - Manuel on Monday, June 4, 2012 at 5:12 pm
Summary:
For my project i decided to do a portfolio on fashion. I would be taking photos of people with fashion.

Abstract:

For my project I basically made an online Portfolio On Fashion. I chose this project because fashion inspires me and I like half of the things people wear now. Sometime people wear the things they wear for their personal reasons and I would like to know why but at the same I don’t want to be all up in their business if its private. For me I would like for people to show the clothes they have in their closets/wardrobe to show whom they really are, now. The process of my project wasn’t that hard but at the same time it wasn’t easy. I had to do a lot of editing for my website, so it can look really good. I learned a lot from my project, I’ve learned that sometimes fashion describes a person’s personality really well.

Unspoken Story: Students Pay Too Much For Senior Dues !

Posted by Zillah Hernandez in Globalization - Laufenberg on Friday, May 25, 2012 at 11:29 pm

Option #1

Trying to figure out what i should write about. I wasn't thinking straight because i had other benchmarks and capstone work to do so i wasn't even thinking about something i should right. Well i'm pretty sure lots of people don't know how much everything came out to be there whole senior year. Then the juniors have no clue of what they have to pay and how much everything has to be, so me telling the story on it can have them a heads up for when they hit there senior year. It doesn't receive more attention because no one really talk about it because it's the end of the year already. Yes but at the same time no because there are seniors who haven't paid there dues but then i see it as in only a teacher would mention it out of the whole school because i personally think its already the end of the school year and who is going to keep bothering a student who hasn't paid there dues when before they had to do it but never did. So it's on them now not anyone else. I learned that my parents had to pay so much for my senior year because it wasn't only just me, but it was me and my sister Amaris Romero, then my parents had other stuff they had to pay so it was hard half of the time to actually give in money on time.

Europe Vs. Dominican Republic

Posted by Zillah Hernandez in Globalization - Laufenberg on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at 8:58 pm
Basically the countries i've chosen are kinda going through the same problems but not really. My two countries were Europe & Dominican Republic and the issues europe had was air pollution, soil, water Etc. The issues DR had was water shortages, and soil problems, basically the same but not really. The changes they had were the same and that was that the sea level was rising. Both of my countries are going through something bad and they kinda can't do anything about it at the moment. I thought i did really well on this benchmark, it was a couple of days late but i needed more time to actually think on it and to make it into something. I read a lot about my countries and i've learned things that i thought that couldn't happen in the countries. I thought the 5 points were difficult because there were times where i couldn't find the right information on my countries. If i could change one thing about my project i think it would be the countries because even though i've learned more about 2 countries and that really good but i think i would be more interested in learning about countries with the same problems and how they deal with the problems or what the difference in how they deal with the same issues. Other then that i thought i did a great job on my benchmark and i really worked hard to get it done.

Chart #1- Languages
For the language graph i basically thought this was an interesting graph because my answerswhere close to the correct answers. The whole process to this was kinda hard because for my answers i didn't know how much i should have put for this language, so i just thought about what i see now, and thats mostly english speaking and spanish speaking, that's why i made them both the highest from my choices.

Chart #2- Age

I was surprised when i seen that my answers were close to the correct answers and the class average, so i already knew that my graph made sense.

Chart #3- Electricity
This graph is Electricity, and basically you would be looking at how many people would and would not have electricity. Im not surprised that my answers were close to the correct answers because in all my graphs i had close answers, but if you see the class average actually had the most of not having electricity and the correct had the lowest, i would actually thing the the correct was going to be more then what they have up there.

BAR CHARTS

Screen shot 2012-02-10 at 9.11.26 AM
In ma Bar Chart #1: Languages, has 10 categories and i've noticed that my answers was kinda close to the Class Average and My answers was way off from the Correct answers.

Bar Chart #2: Age, has 3 categories and i've noticed that My Answers were some what close to the Class Averages and the Correct answers.

Bar Chart #3: Electricity, has 2 categories and i've noticed that My Answers and The Correct Answers were so close to each other and the Class Averages were so low, the rest weren't close to the class average. Not surprised though.

This is a small project that was done surrounding the issue of illegal domestic spying and what exactly caused the NSA (National Security Agency) to go from looking and tapping into calls coming from foreign countries to being able and going around tapping into any cellular device even emails on occasion looking for a "domestic threat". This is meant to give a brief inside into a specific piece of a bigger idea surrounding the privacy of the American People; this also goes against the 4th amendment which states that without a warrant appointed by a three-judge court a search a seizure can't be performed.

Why did you choose this topic?:

Me and my partner chose this project because it was something that we could relate to because we actually have all kinds of crazy electronics and we didn't think something like this could happen, i just think this is crazy period.

What did you like about this project? What was most challenging?

I liked how we actually went along with our project. We learned a lot just by doing our project and it made us realize that we got to be careful at all times when we're on a computer or a cell phone. It was very challenging when we we're looking for the exact points and information we could use so that it would be relevant to what we were trying to convey in our video, but other then that i believe that my partner and i did a great job on our project and we got things done successfully.

Describe the most interesting fact or event that you investigated.
The most interesting fact that we found was during one of the court cases the judge in the case went back to square one with one of the heads of the NSA asking him to briefly talk about what it was this was intended to do and in doing so never really denied the fact that they never asked for a warrant to be issued to tap into phones that weren't foreign

How could this project be improved?

I think that this project could be improved by showing more details and making our interviews longer and the video could've been longer as well.

Where did you run into trouble with the project?
We had trouble when we was trying to look for where exactly the different points and clips should be placed because we had so many to use and so many that went with each other, it was hard at times to actually pick out which clip would actually convey a message, there were so many good answers to our key but we had trouble trying to see if it was really good or not.

What went well with this project?

I thought that our interviews went well because we had so many different answers to our questions, i also thought the videos went good as well because even thought we didn't use a camera from school the videos still look like we did and they were clear and the sound was where we wanted it to be.

If you had it to do over, what would you change about your decisions or your process?
I really wouldn't change anything because i thought the interviews we did with a couple of students at school was really good and it was a good thing that we got to ask them what they thought about the whole problem because i already knew that some of the students was going to be surprised at the fact that we were being spied on, so it was good that we had that in our video.

What did you learn?

I learned about how the government has complete power to do whatever.

http://www.tennessean.com/article/20111105/OPINION03/311050016/State-s-curfew-meets-constitutional-standard

Curfews have reemerged recently as a popular option for policymakers in their efforts to deter juvenile victimization and delinquency. Imposed on and off since the turn of the century, curfews tend to receive increased attention when there is a perceived need for more stringent efforts at social control. For example, curfew ordinances were originally enacted in the 1890's to decrease crime among immigrant youth. During World War II, curfews were perceived as an effective control for parents who were busy helping with the war effort. More recent interest in juvenile curfew ordinances came as a response to growing juvenile crime during the 1970's Curfew laws vary with respect to the locale affected, timeframe, and sanctions. Most restrict minors to their homes or property between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., with some jurisdictions allowing exceptions for weekend nights or summer months. Many curfew ordinances provide exemptions for youth who are going to or from a school-, religious-, or civic-sponsored event. Youth traveling from places of employment or responding to emergencies often are excluded from curfew provisions as well. Several ordinances allow unrestricted mobility for youth who are married, accompanied by an adult, or traveling with a parent's permission.

In addition, some curfew laws impose more stringent curfew parameters in specific zones of the city, usually in targeted high-crime or commercially important areas. A recent example of this type comes from the city of Austin where, in 1994, the city council took action to limit youth activity in the nightclub district of the city. In that area, the curfew begins at 10 p.m. each night, compared with the 11:30 p.m. curfew for the rest of Austin. This isn’t a good year because there is still problems going on with this issue, there are people under age still outside pass 10:00 pm. They can get in trouble if they are being seen out side under age with a crew, they can be blamed for flash-mob or any other thing out there that kids are being blamed for. Teens can be fine with being in the house at this time but they just chose not to listen and follow what there friends are doing, and that’s what will screw them up. I didn’t notice anyone working on this currently since this law has passed on October27th.

Theirs really nothing anyone can do at this point but if anything do come up they can always address it to someone. I just think curfew is important because is respectful of the responsible party's time. For example, if a curfew is set by your parent or guardian, it is respectful to the them to be home by it. Otherwise, they are left worrying about you and left to decide if they should start an emergency search for you, etc. If a curfew is set by city officials, it is important because it allows law enforcement officials the ability to know right off that someone out after curfew is most likely causing trouble. It would also allow the city quiet time, in which residential folks could count on being able to sleep without noisy cars, yelling or other disruptive behavior.

Macaroni Salad

Recipe:

◦ Macaroni – Whole box

◦ Vegetable oil – 2 caps

◦ Salt – 1tbs.

◦ Butter – 1 TBSP.

◦ Parsley Pereil – N/A

◦ Turkey Ham – A Whole Slice Of Turkey Ham Cut Up

◦ Bacon Pieces: Bacon Flavored Bites – N/A

◦ Peas - Half Of A Can

◦ Dry White Cooking Wine – 4 Drops

Steps On How It Was Made:

  1. Stir macaroni into 6 cups boiling water
  2. 1 tsp. of salt into the pot
  3. Boil rapidly 7 to 10 minuets or until macaroni is tender
  4. Drain the macaroni
  5. Put it into a bowl (or wherever you want to put it at)
  6. Grabbed 1 slice of turkey ham
  7. Sliced the ham into little boxes
  8. Put it into the salad
  9. Pour 2 caps of vegetable oil
  10. 1 TBSP. of butter
  11. Mix it up
  12. Pour some parsley into the bowl, doesn’t matter how much you pour but what I did was I shacked it once or twice so that it can have some type of taste to it
  13. Same with the bacon pieces, you can pour how much you want into your salad but I shacked it a little once or twice so that it can have flavor
  14. Pour half of a can of peas
  15. 4 Drops of white wine
MIX IT ALL UP & you’ll get a macaroni salad

Self Reflection:
I’ve learned a lot since I’ve had science and society. In this class we talked and read about the big food vs. big Insurance op-ed basically the op-ed talked about how three-quarters of health care spending now goes to treat “preventable chronic diseases.” Not all of these diseases are linked to diet, there’s smoking, for instance. We also learned about cancer and one of the articles we had to read was a cure for cancer? Eating a plant based diet, and that article talked about how one out of every two of us will get cancer or heart disease and die from it. And starting in the year 2000, one out of every three children who are born after that year will develop diabetes. We also talked about sugar prices. My mom also said that cooking at home can be a healthier and cheaper solution, the effects of diabetes can be reversed with a good diet and that eating healthy is much easier when you have a simple food rule to live by because buying stuff from the store or from the cart isn’t healthy. I think its better if you cook at home then buy junk at the store or from anywhere else it’s way healthier if you cook at home because usually my mom would buy mostly healthy stuff for the house even though me, my brother and my sisters love junk food on regular basics.

Food Rule:
This is a statement my mom always said to me when i used to always buy random things in the store and eat anything i had in my house. I thought this was a good rule because i thought it was true, you cant trust everything you eat, what if its old or have something in it that you don't know about.

  • I chose to do my benchmark on Defense Of Marriage Act, because i thought it was interesting and i wanted to know more about it. I chose Keynote because i think keynote is awesome but sometimes it crews you over because it can't be uploaded to some places such as Scienceleadership.org so i had to screen shot the slides on my keynote and add it to google docs and make it into a presentation on there so that my teacher can see it, so of course i had to share it with her. If i had to do my benchmark over i would probably put less words, (i do not know if its to much words) because i have lots of wording in it and i think it looks smashed together, and i do not like my presentations with to much of information. When i first started researching my bill/law i noticed that the Defenses Of Marriage did have lots of problems, people had trouble with there lover because they couldn't marry the same race. I thought it was pretty hard doing because i didn't know exactly what to put on my keynote.

Blog post #2

The person that represents me is Maria D. Quinones-Sanchez http://phila.gov/cityCouncil/MariaDQuinones-Sanchez.html from the 7th district. Maria has a lot going in with her life.

-She has gone down in history for being the first Latina woman to have a seat in the Philadelphia city council.

-She is also the youngest in the city council.

-She is also known for her reduced crime rates in the city of Philadelphia.

-She is married with 2 boys and still resides in Philadelphia.

In the past she voted for my issue considering the fact that she is basically focusing on public issues and of course this law, the “curfew” law is indeed very public. She has voted with one of the 15 council members to agree with the overall law at hand. She signed for it and only one person didn’t agree with it.

My representative and I have many different things in common such as helping out in the community. I have worked with community service opportunities and volunteer work in the past. Maria does everything for the community; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria_Qui%C3%B1ones-Sanchez

-She helps out with community service projects;

-She helps out schools, schools in which my younger sisters go to. I think the work she is doing means a lot to the community in multiple ways she is helping out the community and even thought I am helping out in the community its not in the same way Maria is. She helps out in ways to make the community a better place;

-She is involved with educational purposes

-Crime and public safety as well. She has a strong connection with the community.

My thought on Maria overall is a positive vibe. I believe that she is making the community better starting out with her vote for the approval of “curfews” I believe that she is doing is for the safety of teens. She is making sure that everyone has bright future and I believe she is making sure and sort of testing out teens in way. I believe she and the council member are testing teens out in a way to show how responsible they can be to show leadership skills and to be able to show the drastic change of roles in teens this generation. How much has teens changed over time? Maybe the “curfew” law is a test to see how much society has changed in the view of a teen.

I am lobbying for the issue of curfew. There has been a new law about curfews and how children have to be in by a certain time. I completely agree with the law because several kids have to learn how to obey laws and rules. The main reason as to why the mayor, Michael Nutter decided to make “Curfew” for kids under the age of 18 a law is because of “Flash mobs.” http://articles.businessinsider.com/2011-08-09/politics/29968295_1_flash-mobs-curfew-young-black-men I completely understand the point he is trying to make. I am not just saying this because the “Curfew” law no longer applies to me considering the fact that I am already 18 years of age but because teens need to understand that things aren’t always going to go the way they want it to go. Teenagers are getting out of control in society each and everyday. What they need to do is stop and we need to put a stop to it. There are rules that need to be obeyed even for the young ones.

The mayor and other council members are clearly in favor of the “curfew” law and so am I. The voting for the signing of the law trial was signed “15-1” meaning 15 council members agreed to the “curfew” and 1 was opposed of it. Teens who have to go inside because of the time obviously aren’t to excite about it and several kids aren’t really acting as if it is a law or acting as if it is serious. There have been teens that have been collected by police officers and had to pay fines. There are several teens that of course obey the rules but there will also be kids who don’t follow rules, changes have to be made even if it has to do with teens causing a big riot of some sort. They have to be stopped one way or another. Changes must be made one step at a time.

The main supporters of my lobbying topic are 15 council members and the mayor of course. There are possibly elder citizens who agree with this as well. The main opponents would be teenagers those targeted because of the “curfew.” Although they don’t agree with it, it doesn’t mean they are going to follow it.

There is a law that has just been passed for a 2-year trial to see the results of it all. Of course the results are going to be pretty accurate, in the way the mayor wants it to be because there are already kids breaking the rules with the “curfew.”

Other background information that would be completely relevant in this case would possibly be way the parents raise the kids and how responsible they are or how responsible they should be. Not everyone has a parent that cares as much or is up to date with societies rules. I think it be best if we had a better understanding and opinion on teens parents who have been fined and arrested.

1. How is sound produced by this instrument (now that you know more about sound, please try to refer specifically to the energy transfer and vibrations)?
- It is produced by hitting the notes, when that happens it vibrate and there for it would most likely produce sound.

2. Based on your understanding, how are you changing the pitch? What physical characteristics are important in this instrument?
-To change the notes so that it can change the pitch, i'm guessing, you would have to switch notes up.

3. What materials will you actually be using for your instrument and why? How will you play your instrument? What is your plan for constructing the instrument?
- I would be using a flat surface like a board or something so that my tabs can be leveled right and i would have some type of pipes for my tabs and i would use like a spoon or something to hit my notes.

4. What outstanding questions do you still have?
- I don't have any questions to ask =)

My group & i decided to spell xylophone "Zillaphone", i'm telling you this because i dont want you to get confused when you see it spelled like that. =)

-How is it played? What does the person have to do to produce sound?
You hit the notes with the mallets. The Zillahphone strike the metal bars of the Zillahphone (xylophone) with a stick produces a vibration. This vibration's sound is determined by the length of the bar. The longer ones produce a much deeper sound than the shorter ones. These sounds are enhanced by the resonator tubes below the bars. Air is pushed into these tubes, creating more vibration, but at the same pitch as the bar struck. A cord runs through the center of the xylophone, lifting the bars slightly away from the frame of the instrument, letting them vibrate freely.

-How do you change a note? (you might have to watch very carefully to see this)
On an Zillahphone, there are different sized bars, the smaller the bars the higher the pitch is. The notes change depending on which bar you hit.

-How is it shaped?
Its Piano Shaped.

-What does this make you think about how you can create and change sound?
It makes me think that this would be easy to play/handle.

-What connections (if any) do you think you can draw between what you are observing and you might already know about waves?
Well i personally think that how hard you hit might effect the length of the wave, and every time you hit the bar, its another pulse.

Soy Silvana, y tengo catorce anos.

Zillah's Resea

Posted by Zillah Hernandez in Spanish 4 - Manuel on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at 7:13 pm
