Taylor Green Capstone

Posted by Taylor Green in Capstone · Enzweiler · Wed on Monday, April 29, 2019 at 12:21 am

For my capstone, I wanted to explore how music had an impact on the lives of people in Philadelphia. I knew that for this question, I wanted to somehow document the connections that residents of Philadelphia had to music or the industry. I conducted many interviews with aspiring musicians, songwriters, or people who wanted to be in the production part of music. At first, I thought I wanted it to be anecdotal and just small blurbs. But transcribing a full interview was much more insightful. In order to present these interviews, I made a website titled “Music of Philly” where people could sign up and read the articles. I also made an instagram page for the site to promote the articles more and I posted on snapchat every time there was an update. For me, working on my capstone has been an exuberant process and overall I’m proud of the work that I have put in. You can visit the website here.

Annotated Bibliography

  1. Xu Bing: Square Word Calligraphy Classroom - The Miriam and Ira D. Wallach Art Gallery, Columbia University. Libraries. Digital Program Division, www.columbia.edu/itc/journalism/isaacs/edit/MencherIntv1.html.

This source is from Columbia University. I will use to think of ways to prepare for my interview, such as writing my questions out beforehand and trying to get the person that I am interviewing to tell a story, while still staying on topic. However, if I know the person I should try to familiarize myself with their background as much as possible. I can do this by listening to their music before meeting them. This can also open up a conversational atmosphere. The source also talks about how you should try to read the person you are interviewing body language to try and see if they are open or more secretive, that way you know what questions to ask without being too evasive.

  1. Employment, Small Business and Training. “Creating a Website.” Business Queensland, CorporateName=The State of Queensland; 2 Jan. 2019, www.business.qld.gov.au/starting-business/internet-start-ups/online-basics/creating-websites.

This source is reliable because it is from a government site. The source explains that before you finalize your site, you should organize your content in a way that is designed easily to navigate through but also stands out to people. I want people to be able to know what content I'm posting and how to find it quickly. It suggests that you should have a professional make your site, however, I'm going to be the professional in this case and structure the content myself. The source also talks about finances, explaining that most companies that let you make a website make you pay a monthly fee. I will try to find one that is free, however I don't mind paying a fee.

  1. Green, Taylor K. “Interview with Sofian Zapf.” 8 Feb. 2019.

Although this interview hasn't happened yet it is planned for the future. Sofian Zapf has an extensive musical background and has been in a few different bands over the years. Not only does he create music, but he has experience with playing shows in front of a vast number of people and his music has accumulated a good following on Spotify and Bandcamp. He is currently trying to plan a small tour with his band. He will be one of the first interviews that I include on the website and this will give me experience on conducting interviews and what I can do differently in the future.

  1. Green, Taylor K. “Interview with Isaiah Vargas.” 26 Jan. 2019.

Although this interview hasn’t happened, yet I will use it on my website in the future. Isaiah Vargas is a Senior who attends Benjamin Rush High School, which is a public magnet school that specializes in the arts. Vargas has been playing drums for over seven years and he wants to pursue a musical career when he is older. For school, he has to complete projects that correlate to his major (music). I will use this interview to write a column on Vargas and include how going to an art school helps him pursue what he wants to do in the future, which is become a music producer and the difficulties that come along with it sometimes.

  1. “How Does Music Affect Your Brain?” Ashford University, 7 June 2017, www.ashford.edu/online-degrees/student-lifestyle/how-does-music-affect-your-brain.

This source was posted by Ashford University. It explains how music impacts humans, most importantly our brain. Whenever we listen to music, we become happy because our brains are releasing dopamine. The source also included information about how music is good for your health, saying that music is an effective treatment for many conditions ranging from premature birth to Parkinson's Disease. Music even plays a key role in the early development of the brain. Musicians have improvement in memory, learning, and auditory processing. The source also provides good ways to find new music or even instruments for people to buy. Maybe I can use this advice to find new music to review.

  1. “How to Create a Website.” Free Website Builder, Wix Photography Blog, www.wix.com/how-to/make-a-website.

This is Wix. It is one of the sources that I can use in the future to create my website. It also includes tips and advice if this is your first time making a website like this. It got me thinking about what I could potentially use the website for. It also got me thinking much about the design. Since I'm writing about something that's art and entertainment I should try to use an eye-catching website template. In the "Get in Touch" section of the source, they talk about how you should include social media icons so that people can get in contact with you. I thought about doing this for the people that I interview and maybe even including a link to their work/music.

This research paper talks about how music-based journalism tends to be an "unexplored" part of the profession. It talks about the initial emerge of music journalism over 100 years ago and how it's almost become a separate form of writing and organization. Over time, magazines such as Rolling Stone has globalized music based journalism and has made it more of a norm. This source uses information from books such as "Inventing Pop Culture" and "Popular Music in Theory", and it talks about the impact of music on culture and culture's impact on music. These sources explain that the relationship that links together industry and audiences are based in consumerism. I will take this research paper into consideration when not only writing articles, but when it comes to interviewing people as well.

  1. Negus, Keith. Popular Music in Theory: An Introduction. Polity Press, 2012.

This book was written by Keith Negus, someone who has a higher education and experience in the musical field, having played the guitar and keyboard in a variety of different bands over the past few years. Throughout the book, he is explaining the theoretical components that make popular music "popular". He talks about the history of music not only in the United States but the UK as well, and the emergence of "popular music" begins with the creation of rock and roll in the 1950s. This source is important to my research and the way I will conduct my interviews because it provides insight on what music people tend to enjoy more. This will affect who I interview and how I will go about interviewing them.

  1. Spencer, Megan. “How to Interview an Artist || Learn: Storytelling.” ABC Open, ABC Online Services, 1 July 2015, open.abc.net.au/explore/95656.

Although this source is similar to a blog post, it is from a network organization, meaning that it is reliable. The creator of this source has a background in freelance writing, broadcasting and is a critic and media arts professional. She offers a lot of advice and interview techniques that I'll take into consideration, such as being polite and being yourself. You can be honest with the person that you are interviewing and if you're feeling nervous about the interview, you can tell them that. Sometimes people lose track of what they're talking about, so you might have to prompt them to speak on a certain topic more throughout the interview.

  1. Varriale, Simone. “Music, Journalism, and the Study of Cultural Change.” Warwick.ac.uk, University of Warwick, 2012, warwick.ac.uk/fac/soc/sociology/staff/syrkaf/publications/music_journalism_and_the_study_of_cultur.pdf.

This source is a paper from a student from the University of Warwick who is describing the impact of music journalism and criticism over the decades and how it affects culture. Criticism provides useful data to study cultural processes, such as the tie between arts and pop culture. This got me thinking about how the music that I'm going to be listening to and reviewing is going to have a cultural impact, and that I should take that into consideration as I am writing. The source also uses an example of one of Sam Rivers' works/performances and the political engagement that it has.

The Game of Morality

Posted by Taylor Green in College English · Giknis · B Band on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at 11:45 pm

          The Importance of Morality

Taylor Green, Dayanna Hughes and Tai Bailey

INTRODUCTION:

In a world where human customs have been lost and concepts cease to be, your goal is to survive and to make it to a normal civilization that has preserved humanity. This game is a tale of exploration where you and other players are traveling through a post-apocalyptic world trying to survive. Are you willing to test your luck and lose all sense of morality in order to make it to your destination first? Or will you be able to stay sane and keep your morality intact?

RULES AND ELEMENTS:

The game is played on a game board that represents a trail to a better destination. In order to travel, you will have to roll a die. Along the trail are symbols relating to four different types of cards. If you land on one of these symbols you have to pull a card pertaining to that symbol. The four types of cards are risk, reward, health and morality. A risk card will have a negative impact on your player (i.e., your player enters an empty house however in search of food, however they get hurt instead). A reward card will have a positive impact  on your player. (i.e., your player finds multiple canned foods that are still good quality). A health card will affect your player’s physical and/or mental health (i.e., your player gets sick and their health goes down). A morality card will present you with a decision that will have a negative or positive impact depending on what you choose. This can increase or decrease your morality but benefit you in the game overall. You can keep track of these statistics by using a tally system on the note cards provided. Your main goal is to get to the end of the board first. If you do, the value system won’t apply to you.

VALUE SYSTEM:

Throughout the game, the three main things that players should keep track of is their health, food cans, and morality. Knowing the amount of these things will affect the choices that players will be able to make in the game and their survival. It will also affect the outcome of your character. Whoever reaches the end of the board first is the overall winner and has no negative setbacks no matter their stats. After the winner, the person with the lowest morality loses all sense of humanity. They steal, kill, and seek havoc with no remorse or care.  The person with the lowest physical health dies. The person with the lowest mental health loses their sanity, and becomes a shell of who they used to be. The person with the lowest amount of food takes all the supplies and abandons the group. The players don’t know until the end who will have the worst fate. In this world where everything is forsaken there is really no glorifying circumstance. There are just some circumstances that are better than others.

CONNECTION AND JUSTIFICATION:

Within The Road, the world has been reduced to its basic elements. Because of this throughout the novel McCarthy plays with the aspect of morality, showing that although there is an evident line between good and evil a world where there are no social constructs makes it subjective. This is what makes it difficult to survive. This can be seen on page 88-89 when McCarthy writes, “The world shrinking down about a raw core of parsible entities. The names of things slowly following those things into oblivion...The sacred idiom shorn of its referents and so of its reality.” This quote is basically saying that principals and words that signify them have been forgotten in a post-apocalyptic world. For our game, we wanted mortality and morality to play a big role and go hand in hand similar to the novel.

Luck is also an important aspect of the game, hence why this is a standard board game with a die. Having it this way, leaves the game strictly up to chance. There is no way to get over, or boost your chances of succeeding. Similar to the book, luck determines the boy and the man’s fate. For instance, on page 138 they find a bunker full of food and supplies. It was described as “crate upon crate of canned foods.”  This was pure luck, them being there at the right time provided them with the things they needed. With the whole idea of luck, there is also an equal amount of unluck. One is not over the other, you can get either or.

Animal Testing 2Fer #7 Taylor Green (1)
This is my best possible 2Fer because it’s about a topic that I’m actually passionate about. I used a thorough analysis and I had reliable sources throughout the essay. Also, I took advice from the peer edits, and I decided to add more to my analysis so that it clearly showed my thoughts and proved my point. I checked my grammar more than once and made sure that everything was concise.

What's a Relationship Worth?

Posted by Taylor Green in English 3 · Pahomov · B Band on Monday, April 16, 2018 at 1:18 am

Comparing “She’s All That” and “The Taming of the Shrew”

In William Shakespeare’s play "The Taming of the Shrew", relationships are only seen as a status symbol and possessions. Suitor Petruchio only wants to be with Katherine to prove his manliness and assert dominance. He cares more about having her as a possession and gaining status in Padua more than he cares about her as an actual person. He wants the money and glory that comes with marrying Katherine, he has no interest in actually loving her.

In the cult classic “She’s All That”, Zack Siler’s girlfriend Taylor Vaughn breaks up with him after coming back from Daytona Beach from Spring Break. Taylor is dating a reality television star, Brock Hudson and tells Zack that she can’t be with him anymore. Zack, fearful of losing his status as popular and wanting to prove that he’s still “top dog”, agrees to a seemingly impossible bet to turn any girl popular due to the association. He accepts a challenge from his shady friend Dean to get the “scary and inaccessible” outcast Laney Boggs to fall for him and become the school’s prom queen.

These texts reflect the timeless theme that both men and women use their relationships as a way to maintain or improve social status. Whether if it’s for proving their machismo to their peers or trying to earn notoriety and wealth, people will use their significant others as a stepping stone to get what they really want; a higher position in society.

PETRUCHIO: "And therefore, if thou know

One rich enough to be Petruchio’s wife,

As wealth is a burden of my wooing dance,

Be she as foul as was Florentius' love,

As old as Sibyl and as curst and shrewd

As Socrates' Xanthippe, or a worse,

She moves me not, or not removes at least

Affection’s edge in me, were she as rough

As are the swelling Adriatic seas.

I come to wive it wealthily in Padua;

If wealthily, then happily in Padua."

(Act 1, Scene 2, Lines 51-62 )

This quote is said shortly after Petruchio arrives in Padua from his town Verona. He tells his friend Hortensio that he has come to Padua in search of a wife who is wealthy. He is then pointed in the direction of Katherine. He is warned about her unattractive attitude but decides to brush it off. He doesn’t care that she’s a shrew, he’s just in it for money. This passage of text reveals Petruchio’s true intentions. He doesn’t need to marry someone he actually loves or someone who is gorgeous. He wants to marry someone who is rich because he wants to enjoy the same luxury since worrying about money is a burden for him. He wants to marry someone for the status that comes with it.

In the film, “She’s All That” mean girl Taylor Vaughn also uses relationships as a way to gain notoriety and to improve her status.

In this scene of the film, Taylor is explaining to Zach why she has to break up with him. She explains that when she went to Daytona Beach over spring break she ended up meeting reality television star Brock Hudson and claimed that they were “meant to be”. Although Brock isn’t that handsome or intelligent, the audience realizes that Taylor wants to be with him because he has a higher position in society, being a celebrity. However, Taylor is still concerned with maintaining her hierarchy in school so she tells Zach that they should still go to prom together because it’s only right that the two most popular people will be crowned king and queen. Similar to Petruchio, Taylor wants to live a luxurious lifestyle and achieves that by entering relationships with those who have a higher rank. She doesn’t care about Brock’s looks or intellect. Her main concern is his social status.

PETRUCHIO: “And therefore [for] assurance, let’s each one send unto his wife, and he whose wife is most obedient to come at first when he doth send for her shall win the wager which we will propose."

(Act 5, Scene 2, Lines 67-69)

During Bianca’s wedding, Baptista, Lucentio, and Hortensio are all teasing Petruchio about having a shrew for a wife. In order to prove them wrong, Petruchio comes up with a wager that whoever’s wife comes when she is called, will win twenty crowns. Hortensio and Lucentio accept this bet because they know Kate’s personality and that she is very headstrong. They believe that there is no way that she will come once she is called. Petruchio does this a way to not only assert his dominance over Katherine but to prove his machismo to his friends. He wants them to know that when it comes to manliness, he holds a higher status over them because of his ability to manipulate women and to be able to tame Katherine. He wants to prove his hierarchy over his male companions.

Popular jock Zach Siler agrees to a bet as a way to prove his machismo to his friends as well.

This scene of the film occurs after Taylor has publicly broken up with Zach. The audience can see that Zach is trying to keep his masculinity intact, by saying “There are over 2,000 girls in this school and I can bump uglies with every one of them.” Dean (Zach’s friend) decides to use this opportunity to present a bet. Zach has 6 weeks to get any girl of Dean’s choosing to fall in love with him and turn her into the prom queen. Zach agrees as a way to prove his manliness to Dean. Similar to how Petruchio’s actions were able to “tame” Katherine, Zach has the ability to manipulate women so that they will conform to his standards and he can improve what he truly cares about; his status and his hierarchy over others. Zach wants to do this because he wants to maintain his popularity after being publicly disgraced by Taylor.

Petruchio:

“Why came I hither but to that intent?

Think you a little din can daunt mine ears?

Have I not in my time heard lions roar?

Have I not heard the sea, puffed up with winds,

Rage like an angry boar chafèd with sweat?

Have I not heard great ordnance in the field,

And heaven’s artillery thunder in the skies?”

(Act 1, Scene 2, Lines 170-176)

In this scene of “Shrew,” Petruchio has just told Gremio that he knows of Katherine and that he knows of her scolding and harsh demeanor, yet that won’t stop him from pursuing her. The reader can see that he isn’t phased by her because he has been in difficult situations before, so handling a woman like Katherine is the least of his worries. This allows the readers to see that proving his manliness is all that matters to Petruchio. He wants the status that comes along with “taming” a woman like Katherine. When he proves his manliness, it makes him feel higher than others.

In the film, Dean Sampson decides to insert himself into the bet as a way to gain notoriety as well and to prove his manliness over Zach. He thinks he can do this by trying to sleep with Laney before he does.

In this scene of the film, the audience witnesses a dispute between Zach and Dean after their team loses a soccer game. Dean says that Zach hasn’t been on his game because he hasn’t “gotten any action lately”. It is then revealed to the audience that Dean is tired of watching Zach walking around school like a god, receiving all of the fame and glory for managing to form a relationship with the newly popular Laney. He wants to change the conditions of the bet and decides to put himself in the running as a way to sabotage Zach. He also does it because he is tired of being in Zach’s shadow and wants to prove that he is just as good as Zach and worthy of being more popular. Dean believes that once he enters a relationship with Laney and manages to sleep with her, it will help improve his social status and knock Zach off his high horse. Just like Petruchio, Dean wants to be known as the guy who “tamed the Shrew” (hooked up with Laney first) as a way to prove his machismo and to gain a higher position over Zach.

Humans have always felt the need to compete with each other, which is why they have to prove that they are higher not only in historical periods but in modern society as well.  In “The Taming of the Shrew”, Petruchio only wanted a relationship with Katherine for money and as a way to prove his machismo and his “shrew taming” abilities. He did it to earn notoriety and hierarchy over his male counterparts. In the film “She’s All That”, the characters Zach, Taylor, and Dean all seem to play the role of Petruchio and use people as a way to improve their social status or to prove their rank over those around them. The text and film both show us that relationships are built on what you can provide for the other person. People won’t enter a relationship unless it is beneficial to them.

E2 U4 Mural

Hola, soy Taylor Green. Vivo en el sudoeste de Filadelfia. Yo vivo aqui por dieciséis años. Me encanta mi comunidad.

Film Review- Gender Bias Lens

Posted by Taylor Green in Gender Studies on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 9:40 pm

The Mako Mori test is a test that analyzes films based off of gender-bias. It was created to show that movies can sometimes have the same archetype and   In order for a film to pass the Mako Mori test, there needs to be at least one female character, who has her own narrative arc that doesn’t support a male’s story. The Mako Mori test is quite important because sometimes the Bechdel Test can be an insufficient way to measure female representation in films. We need the Mako Mori test to add a twist to films, because in most popular films, if there even is a woman in it, have the woman’s backstory dependent to the male. It’s also important to have tests like these so that movies aren’t repetitive. Many directors use these tests because they want their movies to actually be more representative to women.

Things begin to shake up in the quaint little town of Woodsborough as a killer is on the loose. But this killer is quite different than your ordinary horror movie slasher, because this killer knows his scary movies and is set out on stalking and taunting his victims with trivia questions.  In the horror-suspense film “Scream” (1996), you’ll begin to find out that no one is safe. In the beginning of the film, we meet Casey Becker (played by Drew Barrymore), a girl who receives a somewhat flirtatious phone call from someone unknown. At first, everything seems perfectly normal as the caller and Casey are talking about films. The situation soon turns gory as the caller grows more sadistic and begins to threaten Casey, and her boyfriend Steve.

After news arises of what happened to Casey, the town grows on edge and the police start an investigation. Here is when we meet the main protagonist, Sidney Prescott (played by Neve Campbell), a reserved highschool girl who is still coping with the recent loss of her mother. It is then revealed that the killer has a personal vendetta against Sidney when she receives a phone call at home while waiting for a friend. Sidney is then attacked within her own house. This is when she realizes that the killer has been trying to torment her by attempting to kill the people that she cares for.

As the police investigation goes on, people begin to suspect that it’s Neil Prescott (Sidney’s Father) doing all the killings, since he hasn’t been seen since, and all recent calls have been tracked to his phone. But Sidney defends her father, and says that he’s gone away on a business trip, even though the police still don’t think that that is the case.

As more murders occur, school gets suspended. Stu, a fun loving party animal, throws a get together and invites most of the students from school. Sidney, fearing that the killer might strike again, and at the party specifically, shows up to put a stop to it, but to no avail. The killer ends up attacking a lot of people, inevitably leaving Sidney alone in the house to fend for herself. Can our tragic heroine survive? But the main question to this mind-bending mystery is, who is the killer?

Although the movie can have it’s funny moments, it’s quite intellectual nonetheless. If you've ever watched a horror movie and grew frustrated with the main protagonist’s antics, then this film is for you. “Scream” delivers a clever horror film by ripping on/critiquing past horror cliches. The characters themselves even have a conversation about movie cliches and address slasher movie stereotypes. “Horror movies are always about some big-breasted blond who runs upstairs so the slasher can corner her…” says one character in the film. “Scream” gives a unique twist to the horror genre, as it is almost as if this movie is self-aware that it’s a horror movie. The film also coves aspect of trust. As you go on watching the film, you begin to learn that those who may seem honest, might not have the purest intentions. With a killer on the loose only targeting those who are close to you, can you really believe your family and so-called friends?

“Scream” meets the criteria for the Mako Mori test because the protagonist is a girl named Sidney Prescott and she has her own backstory. Although there are many males throughout the film, Sidney’s backstory doesn’t draw any correlation to theirs. Towards the end of the film, it is proven that Sidney is quite strong and independent as she dukes it out with the killer all on her own, thus saving the lives of her remaining family and friends.

An anti-gender bias film test that I came up with was the Pregnant Betty Test. Within the Emmy Award winning show “Mad Men”, the main protagonist’s wife Betty, gets pregnant, but in my opinion, it wasn’t a fair portrayal of women during pregnancy. She seemed very calm and reserved in her pregnancy, and she had no significant changes to her body, besides the fact that she had a larger belly, I feel like a lot of times, Hollywood doesn’t really have accurate portrayals of pregnant woman, and it’s just overly glamorized actresses wearing pregnancy suits. This test is called The Pregnant Betty test to give film/television directors a more accurate way to portray expecting mothers, and not just make her out to be a pregnant Betty Draper. The criteria for this test is 1) have the mother to be show weight gain or any bodily change 2) show the mother having morning sickness 3) have the mother to be show mood swings (besides crying) and an optional one is 4) have a scene where the mother to be isn’t wearing makeup or dressed up extravagantly or 5) the woman having an form of difficulty in her pregnancy or miscarriage.

A movie that depicts this "What to Expect When You Are Expecting", as the movie portrays 5 couples as they experience what it is like having a baby. Within the film, they go through all accurate and different representations of pregnancy through each month.

Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions

Posted by Taylor Green in Gender Studies on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at 8:00 pm

I feel as though our roleplay activity in class of the Seneca Falls Women’s Rights Convention, was a good way for us to get a perspective on what women had to face during specific eras of time. Something different about our document, compared to the actual historical document is that our document splits up the women in different sections. I feel as though this is a good thing because it caters to each group of women. Another difference is that the actual document mentions” That woman is man’s equal—was intended to be so by the Creator, and the highest good of the race demands that she should be recognized as such”. Our document just states what women want, not they are equal. I feel like the actual document is very specific as well, and ours is kinda vague. Something that surprised me were the factory conditions that the mill women had to work in. When I was younger, I learned about women working in the mills during the Revolution and finally being able to have the same jobs as men. I didn’t really think about the conditions in which they had to work. I also didn’t know that it was legal to beat your wife. I knew that violence against women during this period of time was common, but I didn’t know that it was what was expected of men to hit their wives. I also felt like the roleplay of the convention did a good job highlighting important aspects of being a Cherokee woman as well. Although the Cherokee women were treated with respect by men, white men and women disrespected them. They had to give up their land for these people, which wasn’t fair at all. I’m surprised that the convention talked about the rights of women of color and not just white women. I feel like that’s an issue that is still prevalent today. I feel like we talk a lot about female empowerment, that we sometimes forget about racial inequality. I feel as though those subjects are both equally important, and have the same amount of spotlight. We talk about wanting to make men and women equal, yet we live in a society where not even all of our men are equal to each other. Another issue that is still prevalent today is women working in horrible conditions. Over time, conditions in factories have gotten better, but other conditions in the working world in general have gotten difficult. There can be a lot of sexual harassment in the working world for a woman nowadays.

Growing up Online - Taylor Green

Posted by Taylor Green in Technology - Freshman - Hull - y2 on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 10:34 am

In class, we watched a movie called Growing Up Online. This show was about how being online affects us in real life, and how kids are different on the internet than they are in real life. The most memorable thing about this show to me was when a girl named Autumn Edows told us about how she made a new personality online. It was interesting to see someone completely transform themselves because of the internet. It's important to watch shows like this so that you are cautious about your behavior on the internet. For my future family, I'll monitor how much time my kids spend online and make sure that they only get on educational websites only. I'll only allow them to get on the computer once they are done their school work. It's important to talk to your family about internet safety so that your younger siblings are aware and your parents know whats going on in your life in case something bad where to happen to you. Advice that I would give parents who don't know how to keep their children safe online is to look up some ways to protect them. If they can't do that, limit the amount of time your child spends on the web and monitor what they do and restrict certain sites.

Reflection and Second Slide

Posted by Taylor Green on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 10:46 pm
For my first slide, the majority of critiques I received was mainly about how I had too much going on in one thing. People said that I should've stuck with only a few pictures or just go ahead and make a collage. People also said that having photos of myself was redundant, since I was presenting.

For my second slide, I decided to just use one picture of my favorite singer, Lana Del Rey. She has inspired me to do a lot and I wouldn't be the person that I am today without her. I decided to put words that described me on the right side of my slide instead of all around because they would be too distracting. I also decided to stick with a black and whit theme, since it's really simplistic, yet interesting. I didn't use a default template as my background because they lack originality. Instead I made the entire background black and out in a black and white photo and made my words a white font.

The reason for the words on my slide is because they are all things that represent me. I am all of the things that are posted on my slide.

Media Fluency Taylor

For my slide, I decided not to use a normal template as my background. I feel as though the default templates are really boring and don't show any originality. I chose to stick with only a few pictures because I didn't want to over power the focus of my slide, but I still wanted it to be interesting. I used different colors for the words to make them stand out more. Color is always the first thing people notice.

When asked the question who am I, I usually think about the things that are more broad. I'm a girl, I'm 15, I'm a daughter, and a sister. I never really think about my traits or interests though. So for this project, I decided to focus on the things that make me who I am and my interests.

All the words are words that I would use to describe myself and how people have described me.I would say I'm caring because I’m always there for my family and friends. I support them whenever they need it. I'm a poet because I've been writing poetry for years, and it's one of my favorite hobbies. I'm smart because I tend to have bright ideas. I may not be the best in math, but when it comes to English and AfAm History, I tend to excel. For the picture of lush and forever 21, they are my favorite stores.

For the picture of my friends, I added it because they are really important people in my life and they help me when . For the picture of Lana Del Rey, I added her because she is a very influential artist to me. She's the reason I write poetry and her music always puts me in a better mood whenever I'm going through something difficult.

That's my slide! I hope you enjoyed.

Who am I Online? Taylor Green

Posted by Taylor Green in Technology - Freshman - Hull - y2 on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 9:55 am
  1. For tech, we watched a video on how bullying can affect someone’s life and how being someone who stands up to bullying affects them too.

  2. It reminds me of the movie CyberBully and how she was almost driven to suicide because no chose to stand up for her.

  3. Online, I’m a nice person. I don’t get involved in any drama and I appear as friendly.

  4. I think people perceive me as nice because of how I am on the internet.

  5. The goal of internet trolls is to annoy and get a reaction out of you. If you react, they’ll only bother you more.

  6. Something positive about online anonymity is that you can express your opinion without getting in trouble, but something negative about it is that people abuse this power. They use this to bully and harass others without getting caught.

Videos for Spanish- Taylor, Julia, Tony, and Deja

Posted by Taylor Green in Spanish 1 - Manuel - C on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at 6:27 pm

In Spanish, we've been learning how to say numbers. In this video, Halloween has just passed and Deja has some candy left over. Taylor asks Deja how much candy she has, hoping she'll share. In class, we have been learning months and dates. In this video, we have Deja and Taylor trying to wish Tony a happy birthday, only to find out that there has been a mistake. Since we've been learning about the temperature, and forms of weather in class, we thought that it would be appropriate to do a weather report for this video. A while back, we learned the alphabet in Spanish. In this video, we see Taylor and Julia getting ready for a spelling bee.

Home Network, Green

Posted by Taylor Green in Technology - Freshman - Hull - y2 on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 11:37 am
All the devices connected to my internet are my phone, my laptop, my xbox, and my tablet. My mom's phone, laptop, and tablet are also connected to my internet. My dad also has the same three products connected to the internet. Something new that I learned while doing this project is that my parents pay for our internet, phone line, and cable all in a bundle instead of sepearately. Something that I would tell other people about finding an ISP is that they should find one that fits them the best. For example if they have a small family, or live alone, they don't need a plan that includes a whole bunch of devices.
