Exploring Balance: Original Art Work [Simone M]

In my artwork, I depicted a person on two sides of lightness and darkness. It was to show how even the lighter side has some darkness that may affect the lighter side and vice versa.  I created balance in this picture by splitting my original sketch in half and coloring all of the white space in. Doing this, I created a balance in my picture. From a peer, we discussed my drawing. Our discussion involved the use of white space and how I utilized the space I had on the piece of paper. I decided to keep the design simple in an effort to make the main point of the picture pop out.

Week 9 - Day 1 & 2 Print/Matt

My element is Titanium. The atomic number of Titanium is 22. Titanium is one of the strongest metals. It is known as the metal of the Gods in ancient greek history. Originally named Gregorite, after the British chemist, Reverend William Gregor who discovered it in 1791. Titanium is usually used in Aircraft and Spacecraft. For my print, since Titanium is known as the “Metal of the Gods,” I wanted to portray that. My print is someone obtaining the power of the gods.

To start out, I had to come up with a sketch. So I drew steps that were to represent a temple, and the man obtaining the power, with Titanium in the background. I had to trace that to another piece of thin paper. With that trace out, I would trace the drawing into a styrofoam plate. That plate would act as the stamp. Once the stamp is completed, paint must be applied and stamp the drawing on a piece of paper.

For this project, I would change my drawing. I found that my drawing wasn’t as amazing as I thought. Although, I enjoyed pasting my drawing onto paper. I always loved working with paint, so it was a fun experience.

Final Stamp Design

Posted by Simone Marant on Friday, May 12, 2017 at 11:19 pm

Creating this stamp, I wanted to think of a symbol that, obviously, symbolizes me. I thought, what would be a better symbol than myself? So I wanted to highlight key features of myself that makes me, myself.

Previously, we were given the assignment to come up with three symbols. The symbols were supposed to match the adjective that you chose to describe yourself. I had few adjectives, but the ones that stood about to me were Affectionate, Generous, and Reliable. For affectionate, it was a figure with open arms. For generous, I drew a figure of open hands reaching out. For reliable, I simply drew a flexing arm in a fist. I didn’t feel as though any of the symbols really got out what I wanted to depict. So I decided to create myself.

In my design, the negative and positive space both are used to highlight my features. I cut out the positive space which is my hair, and other facial features.  To contrast, I left negative space to highlight the features.

Understanding positive and negative space was a really slow process for me personally. I had an idea, but I would always get confused when I would try it out on my design. I used inspiration from others, realizing that they were simply cutting out the spaces that they colored in to highlight the spaces they weren’t cutting.

Negative Space Cut Out

Negative space is the space around and between objects in an image. That space is used to emphasize the object of the image! In my cut out I found negative space by looking at the opposites. I knew that if parts of the one side of the owl were present, I would have to take that presence away on the other side.

For artist, it is very important to see negative space. Artist can utilize negative space to their benefit and create many wonderful pieces. They can use negative space to make the main object of their piece to stand out and become more unique! So negative space can definitely enhance a drawing because of that utilization of space!

Printmaking

Posted by Simone Marant on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 9:02 am
Printmaking has been evolved over the years. It was practiced in many different countries. Within each place, there were and still are different forms of printmaking. Printmaking is the process of making artwork by printing. Countries like China, Rome and Egypt. These countries and more have expressed their messages through printmaking which brings the importance about printmaking.

Printmaking questioned how far the forms of Art can go.
They answered "Pretty far,"

Megan Lino Fish Print

Megan Lino’s Fish Print really stands out to me as a viewer. I notice that there is a break in pattern by the fish’s “beams of light” which is really aesthetically pleasing. Also I notice that the things surrounding the fish are being attracted to the fish. I wonder how Lino came up with this idea. I also wonder what message she is trying to say. Although, what if Lino added another fish? I wonder how she would break the pattern once again. This is a great piece of work that probably took days and hours to create, which is why I appreciated it so much.

Inspiráo los leyendas

Pero soy yo

Producto de Filadelfia

Veo Discriminación

Oigo gritos de mi hermanas y hermanos

Heulo sudor y sangre

Saboreo mi historia en comida

Toco la densidad de aire

Bailo con mi familia

Como con mi familia

Estoy con mi familia

Necesito mi familia

Somos productos de África

Pero productos de Filadelfia

Comemos cheesesteaks

Pero África está en mi hermanos y hermanas.

My New Slide

In this new slide I improved the layout of the slide to further emphasize my message. Before there was no specific layout of the slide, there was simply different pictures put together. Since that was the layout, the main point ( the face ) didn't stick out enough to really draw you their first. This time, I set some sort of pattern so the face would stick out more. I added more fabric colors to give more texture to the photo and used the background ( the sun ) to set the overall mood. I decided to keep the locks because of personal reasons. Overall, I am very pleased with this slide because it provides more emphasis to the message I am trying to put out.

My Google Slide

Posted by Simone Marant on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 8:08 pm

For my slide I decided to bring something to the table that defines me by pattern and design. I wanted to focus more on a mash of different textures and colors to show a new type of rhythm that defines me. First I started off with a picture of a sun as the main background because that is the backbone of my character. A sun is radiant and gives life to the things around them. It shows reciprocity that lies within me. My second layer gives off some movement by its texture, being a slight velvety feel. I blended this layer to give more harmony to the first.  My third layer was a simple brown color that has somewhat of a smooth yet rough texture. It adds movement to the first. Then I continued with a picture of “ A Black Aesthetic “. I chose this picture because when I went to the National African American Museum in D.C. this stood out to me. I chose to choose a small font for my name to show off the main point of the picture, the aesthetic. I then edited a what was once brown photo to green because to show contrast that something that I’m into is different to what other people think is normal. I then took a photo of myself and photoshopped the eyes out of the picture and drew in colorful ones because it shows that I see much more and take in my surroundings, being aware of more things. I edited locks and put them as my hair. I put this in because I wanted to make more use of my space, also that ever since I chose to lock my hair I felt as though it is a huge part of me. All together it creates a different kind of harmony with a variety of different things.

My Home Network

Posted by Simone Marant in Technology - Freshman · Hull · c2 Band on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 10:14 am

Explain your L.A.N. Local Area Network - all the devices on your internet connection.

-My modem router with the ISP being comcast. Connected to HOME-0E0F-2.4 is more of the mobile devices. I have my PS3, my mothers Android phone, My brother and my IPhone 6’s. Connected to HOME-0E0F-5 is the two mackbooks in my home.

Reflect on what you learned about networks, did you have an OMG moment that you learned something new and interesting? if now write about what you learned.

-I was already knowledgeable about ISP’s, Routers and things like that, it was fun to find out more about the WWW and looking deeper into what was going on behind the scenes.

What would you tell other people that they need to know about having an ISP/Home network?

-I would tell them that they need to know, like what a L.A.N is and the devices connected to your Wifi. Also the cost of your internet because that is important in knowledge.
