Robert's Lord of the Flies Essay

Posted by Robert Aversa in English 2 · Pahomov · C Band on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 11:12 am

When a civilized person is moved to an environment where civilization does not exist, they will eventually become savage because their mind adapts into the environment, has a chance to go insane, and only care about what they want when they go into this situation. When you the reader will look into the past, you see that we (humans) were/are savages, but now we have evolved and became more civilized, with our minds adapting into high kinds of people filled with different kinds of emotions. So when we think about it, there were alot of times that mankind turned in savages. In this essay, there is about 2 big moments in history that humans were considered savages.

In the book Lord of the Flies, written by Golding, William, and published by new york penguin, in 2006, is about a group of boys, whose plane got shot out of the sky during a war, where on the island their on has no adults, and a group of boys who are in the church choir, back where ever they lived, and later on in the book, their “leader of the group” Jack, becomes bloodthirsty and savage. This somethings happens in our world, here are 2 or 3 examples.

Cortez killed and enslaved the aztecs even though they gave them gifts, even though they were defined as savages, yet cortez killed and them in ways that today in the modern world, and probability was looked on in shame back then as well. Knowing this, you can somewhat understand why it is savagery since, when he got gifts, he then murdered them all. I the writer define it as somewhat savage.

The other time that might of, or was savage, was the Freddie Gray, he was handcuffed in the back of a van without a seat belt. By the time he arrived at the police station a half hour later, he was unable to breathe or talk, suffering from wounds that would kill him, and those wounds did kill him. The van made about 2 or 3 trips until they got to the police station which was 30 minutes after. When he got to the station, he was unable to breath or talk, and the case of this tragic story, is still going on today. When you see the full report, you can think it was savage for several reasons. 1: When he was first arrested his leg was hurt, and officers were dragging him in a position that would look like it would make it hurt more. 2: When he was put in the van, he was handcuffed, and wasn't put in a seat belt and was in their for 30 minutes. 3: He had asthma, and when he asked for it, it was denied to him. This is like savagery for a few different reasons. The first one is how he was dragged like how jack killed the pig by engaging it in a circle -or a cage, like how Gray’s injuries were caused from being in the back of the van. How he was treated which was savage (not the roasting type, the old age type, or from the book in the lord of the flies).

This is why there is some savagery in our world still. It takes different shapes, and it always exists. Most of us, think savagery is the opposite of civilized which in some cases it is, but in other cases its just power hungry turning savage like, what happen with jack when he became a leader of his “own” tribe, and started spilling blood and killing his the others who don't agree with his intentions about the island.

Robert Monologue

I am a small kitten called Whiskers, who is asleep, bathing in the sunlight, since my owner Robert is away. But what is worrying me is that my human is coming home later than usual then at 4:00pm. I was wondering why he was so upset lately with . I always go over and lay next to him and sit on my lap to comfort him, but he just goes on his computer to do something like typing. He keeps saying he has to do his school work, but now I think it's just an excuse since he is always on his laptop instead of playing and relaxing with me. I see is he stressed about something, I always want to be with him, and protect him like how he saved me. It happened in December 2015, I was on one of his friends porch, trying to beg myself to be let into the house, then I see two people walk up onto the porch, at first the didn't notice me until I meowed softly, the boy slowly turned to me, and his face lifted up, he kneeled down and gestured his hand to let me know he won't harm me, and to pet me. Soon his friend and her siblings came out, to see him looking at me. He asked If I belonged to them, they responded with saying “No”, He then looked to his mother and asked if he can keep me. I saw she was thinking about it, So I started to circle him meowing, making her say yes, luckily she did, They found a cardboard box, scooped me up gently and put me in the container, and brought me into this warm nice vehicle. After we left his friends block, I climbed out of the box, and went on the seat next to his head. When we arrived to his house, I noticed some of his neighbors had christmas lights on, they hypnotized me, I jumped out of his arms and ran towards the light, slightly tilting my head, to watch the glittering lights, then I hear him calling my new name, so I trot over to him, inside in a warm room, with food. I always wonder why he called me Whiskers.  Maybe its because I have short whiskers or long whiskers, I don't know since mirrors confuse me. Well he is home, time to go greet him.

Cats are Family as well

Through my eyes, systems that are created and defined, are your choices and the karma that comes after it. Since every choice you will make or didn't, became a system of when you chose that choice, it created a system or a timeline. . But when you choose the option, you were given  a karma with it, and if you did something  you're giving  karma, but if you did something , you were given  karma.

In my own life, I saw this happen when I got my cat Whiskers, When I had gotten her, it was near December, on a freezing, winter day, I went over to a friends house with my mother. As we got to the porch, I noticed this kitten slowly, but quickly jump on the railing of the porch, and meow softly. I stayed outside and asked their family if they got a new cat. They said no, and explained that someone fed it, and it kept coming back for more. When the other 5 kids came out, it only stay near me, before it circled me, saying that I was her owner. I looked at my mother,  and asked if I could keep  it, and it took some begging to finally get her to say yes.

After a month of having Whiskers, I had to get her to stop biting and scratching me when I tried to feed her.  was also difficult  to get her to stop playing with my legos, as she kept  flinging them around in  the middle of the night.

However, after a few months, there was progress,  as well as some exciting amazing things she learned. She learned how to play ¨catch¨, and she also learned how to roll a ping pong ball over to me.   Over the summer, I go to this summer house in the catskills (funny since it's about a kitten) with me, my mother, my grandmother, and my cat. I sleep in the attic (not really an attic just a small room, not as big as most attics.) But back to the story. So when it was about 9:00 pm one day, I went on the ladder to go up, and my cat was crying, so I stayed and watched her , telling her it was going to be ok.  However,  a mere ladder wasn't going to stop Whiskers from not sleeping next to me. Then I heard my Grandmother say ¨Son of a B*tch” and when I looked to where she was staring, I see my cat climbing a metal, almost slanted ladder.

I quickly, but quietly woke my mother up and pointed. I could tell she was shocked and angry, since all the good things that happen with me or Whiskers, she doesn't have her camera ready, So I hug my cat who climbed up, and in the morning. She figured out how to climb down, by slowly jumping down a step, the repeat. Until she is 3 steps close to floor, then she jumped down.

So, karma are  like cats, Sometimes, there's a great side of a cat and a terrible side of a cat, it's just how it behaves, like we do. Cats are just like life, punishing or rewarding because of our deeds.

Don’t leap into danger

Friendship is sharing

So don't be a creep

Familia es el cuidado

Protección es atrevida

No salto en peligro

Amistad es compartir

TECH BOARD REFLECTION

I have learned that you need to click on everything Miss Hull puts there, also to check if you did it right. I have also learned that you need to give your slide a deeper meaning where it would show something you would like but would have an easter egg in it to show something else that you love. Research is important since you would need to know how to make it or what you would need to do. Also it is key for you to actually know what to do and how to do instead of asking miss hull since she won’t help you whatsoever and might be a bit mad since you didn’t listen to her instructions.

My Home Network

  • explain your L.A.N. Local Area Network - all the devices on your internet connection.
I have many devices connected to my L.A.N. First is the modem which sends Fios to the router. The router sends data to all devices connected to my network.
The devices connected to my network are a FireTV and a mac mini which are both connected to the network by ethernet cables. The following devices are connected to wifi. They are a macbook, chromebook, an iPad 3, an iPad mini 2, an iPhone 5s, a kindle, kindle paperwhite, and a bathroom scale.

  • reflect on what you learned about networks, did you have an OMG moment that you learned something new and interesting? if now write about what you learned.
I learned that the internet and wifi are two different things. The internet is brought into the house by fios and that the router transmits the internet to the devices on my network by the ethernet cables and Wifi. My OMG moment was when I realized why the wifi was turned off on the mac mini because it is connected to the network by ethernet cables.

  • what would you tell other people that they need to know about having an ISP/Home network?

I would tell other people that they need to know that wifi and internet are different things. They would also need to know that devices connect in different ways like Wifi and ethernet cables. I would also tell them that if they wanted to use a device far from the router they have to make sure is was wifi since wifi is wireless.
