Chevy Camaro Commercial

Posted by Nailah Adam in Reading, Writing, and Rising Up - Rami on Friday, January 20, 2012 at 8:48 am

My product is the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro. My message for my product is to persuade audience to buy a vehicle that promotes the many values of having a sport car. My intended audience are males, of any age range, determined to drive a fast and stylish car. I think it is an effective way to reach my audience because it uses pop culture phenomenon "Taylor Gang" to persuade buyers to join a subliminal bandwagon.

Analysis

Pasta salad is one of the healthiest meals that is entirely organic and a part of the Whole Food category. Pasta salad can be served as a side or a meal. According to the nutritional facts of all the ingredients, two-three cups of pasta salad totals to a minor four hundred calories. Not only is it nutritional, but fulfilling. The carbs, or pasta, in the pasta salad serves as two of our six daily grains/per day needed for our body to function healthily. Carbohydrates provide energy throughout the day and help your metabolism speed up. The vegetables used in the pasta salad are used to fulfill some of your daily servings of vegetables and fruits. Vegetables are needed in a daily diet because it provides cardiovascular health, gastrointestinal health, strong vision, and other life long advantages. However, some health issues that could arise if you ate nothing but pasta salad everyday are hair/skin effects, lack of growth of muscles and blood and hormonal disorders, that are caused by lack of enough proteins in diet.

My ingredients come from the United States and Italy. The tomatoes and cucumber comes from Florida, while the olive oil, balsamic vinegar and pasta come from Italy. The olive oil, balsamic vinegar and pasta (all organically grown) have traveled the farthest at steep four-thousand-four-hundred-and-thirteen miles.

The cost of all the ingredients was ten dollars, for a serving of twenty. Compared to fast food, the average double cheese burger and French fries cost two dollars and fifty cents.; resulting to a total of fifty dollars for twenty people. Overall, you come out cheaper preparing pasta salad. The Food and Drug Administration regulate the food items used in pasta salad.

There are some social ramifications of preparing pasta salad. The price of a regular bag of pasta can cost about one dollar. However, the price of a whole-wheat organic pasta bag cost about one dollar and thirty-nine cents. While some may not see a big difference, a lot of people are always focusing on the bottom dollar, where that extra thirty-nine cents can go towards other needs. Tracing where the vegetables came from was not hard. The tomatoes and cucumber were harvest on a farm where they grew these crops. The whole-wheat pasta derived from the form of unleavened wheat dough of buckwheat flour. The balsamic dressing and oil came from a reduction of cooked white Trebbiano grape juice and olives. All of my ingredients are organic; therefore, there wasn’t a lot of processing. The ingredients were purchased from my local Supermarket, Brown’s ShopRite. Needless to say, Pasta salad can be categorized as one of the healthiest, tasteful and fulfilling meal.

Reflection

In this unit, I have learned a massive amount of information about the food industry, food itself and how I am a prime factor in it. What I found most intriguing while learning about the unit, was that I can contribute to the wrong doings of the industry by buying its products. Essentially, I learned that by supporting the non-organic food industry, I am supporting the mistreatment of animals, people's health and my health.

The biggest problem in our food system is the lack of organic food resources in urban areas for cheap prices. I believe the majority of the people who are malnutrition from non-organic food suffer because the lack of organic food resources in urban communities. In order to change the statistics and change the health of suffering citizens, we have to change our unhealthy diet to a healthy diet. In order to change the statistics, we have to change the resources.

A change I can make to my food choices is  taking out the fattening, greasy and sugary foods and replacing them with vegetables, healthy proteins, grains and fruits. The impact of these changes will be a longer, healthier life. I am willing to make these changes if the food industry agrees to cheapen the cost of organic food and increase organic food resources in my area particularly.

It makes me think I can cut different sizes of metal plates to create the different notes. I can conclude that the waves produced are caused by the vibrations. The vibrations determine the sound.

Nailah Adam's What If? Benchmark

Posted by Nailah Adam in American History - Laufenberg on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 10:28 pm
Here is the link to my benchmark

I liked the creativity portion of the benchmark the most. It allowed me to show off skills that I had not been able to display in other benchmarks. The most challenging was completing the numerous amount of assignments. The most interesting fact I've investigated was how demographics, female or male, can determine the outcomes of elections. Individuals overall influence people whom look up to them as leaders. In my benchmark, I explored how individuals have affected history and how history has been affected by individuals. This project can be changed by being less freely with the topics and less primary source documents. I feel that the expectations were a lot higher than what people could've met based on the time period given and knowledge amongst the class in general. If I could do this over, I would change the form of multimedia I used to present. I would much rather use iMovie or Quicktime, but due to little time, the website had to suffice for it.

Posted by Nailah Adam in Spanish 4 - Manuel on Monday, March 21, 2011 at 8:46 am
machuca-1

Yo soy Silvana.

This quarter in our Art class, our main focus was working with pencil and charcoal and learning new skills. We developed basic skills of drawing hands, self portraits, clear bottle drawings, etc. There were many strengths of this quarter's projects. One was the effort we all put in it. We all work hard and tediously to complete our projects. Below, are all of our projects
. For our last project of the marking period we were asked to do something involving art history.I chose to draw a 6hour drawings from art history that reflects the inspiration and the theme of spring. I was inspired by abstract expressionism. The paintings up this time included multiple shapes and colors. Above is the final product.

NHD Benchmark Reflection

Johniera and I chose this topic because Ms. Laufenberg suggested when we were searching for project ideas. We chose to present it as a  documentary because there was an endless amount pictures available to us to show the Indian boarding schools and the affects they had amongst the students. We ran into trouble when my computer broke 3 weeks prior to when it was due, which limited us in having a lot of time to find pictures. Disregarding the stress that came along with it, the final product turned out nice. The collaboration and communication went well in our group. If I could do it over, I would add more video. I learned about the Native Americans and the trials and tribulations they went through, throughout the times of European explorers. I also learned about how their heritage was desecrated through the times because of the boarding schools.

Quarter 2 Art Project: Lotus Flower in the sunset

Posted by Nailah Adam in Advanced Art - Hull on Friday, January 14, 2011 at 5:49 am
My art comes from inspiration. My inspiration for painting the lotus flower came from the lack of me not knowing how to draw a flower and the lack of me never seeing a lotus flower in person. I started with just a one-on-one drawing session with Ms. Hull, where she showed me how to illustrate the basic design of a flower and how it should be drawn. Once I got the basic "how to draw a flower" down pack, I decided to sketch more and more and practice each class how I want my drawing to be. My favorite thing about my work is knowing that I tried something I've never done before and it came out as a masterpiece. I knew my work was going well once my sketch was not only  what I pictured it but even better.

The decision in how to correctly illustrate my final project is what hindered me the most in this project. I knew I wanted to paint because I've yet to paint a canvas for my final art project yet. Once I knew I wanted to paint, I bought 2 canvases (1 extra in case I mess up). After I purchased the canvas, I came to Ms Hull in excitement ready to learn the fundamentals of painting and export a dazzling final project. Ms Hull taught me various techniques on how to paint including shadowing and manipulating dark and light colors.

The final product consisted of a lotus flower in the water with floating lilly pads around them and a sunset that consisted of the many colors that catch my mind when I look at a sunset. The hardest part of the project was making a sunset. Since I already pictured in my head what I wanted the sunset to look like, there was no way that it could turn out another way. With the correct usage of water and paint, to give it a soft look, the sunset turned out to be as wonderful as I depicted in my head.

I knew my canvas was finished once I put the finishing touches of the lotus flower. The usage of the dark and light colors and the hard, dark stroke around the stems of the lotus flower, really put a finishing touch to the project. I also knew my canvas was done when I looked at the canvas and said "This is what I pictured in my mind."

*I would like to give a special thanks to Ms. Hull this quarter because she truly helped me through developing the final product that I pictured. Her patience was truly a blessing to my art piece.*

Recycled Fashion: Revitalizing Fashion (joint project with Brooke Thompson)

Posted by Nailah Adam in Advanced Art - Hull on Friday, November 5, 2010 at 1:24 pm
Hello, My name is Nailah Adam and I am a junior at SLA. My Quarter 1 Art Project focuses on recycling and style; rebirthing the means of reusable clothing and saving the world. Brooke Thompson and I have taken that idea and made clothes out of recyclable items. Those recyclable items include, trash bags, plastic cups, bottle caps and old clothing we no longer wanted. In my art, I tried to achieve looks of couture recycling that will influence others to want to create recycling art and fashion and not a way of disposing things.
The tools that I used to achieve the clothing were old American Eagles shorts, a black tank top, an old bra, the recyclable tools listed in the paragraph above, glue gun, scissors and paint. There were sketches drawn to get the pictured look. In the sketches, the drawings resemble "tu-tu" dresses. The dress had a poof bottom that was "poofed out" with the future trash bags. The top of the dress , or the bustier, had bottle caps and plastic cups with a distinct design.
The "tu-tu" was executed by sewing the trash bags to the shorts and cutting the trash bags to give off a "poofy" look. The bustier had a plastics cups in a design that fitted the shape of the bra. The cups were glued using the hot glue gun and cut to fit the bra. Although, were not able to execute the rest of the dress, we plan to keep going on with our project because it is very inspirational to us and people whom are interested.
I discovered, when I work with things that are helping to others and still relative in the world, I feel accomplished. Recycling is not only a major issue in the world, but being yourself is also very controversial in the teenager world. Though the clothing would not be suitable for any type of everyday wear, it is suitable when you want to make a statement about who you are as a person and how you've contributed to the betterment of the world.
Here are some pictures of our work:

Reflection

My interview was intended to answer the questions in detail and come up with conclusions. The answers that the interviewee gave showed that the people in my neighborhood (age 35 over in Mt Airy 19150) are people who subsequently vote every election. Also, the answers the interviewee gave supported that education in high school helped improved their willingness to vote. I enjoyed doing this project because it allowed me to see what is going around in the community and how people feel about voting.
