Favorite Stats Benchmark

Posted by Kamille Granby in Statistics - Thompson on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 12:01 am
My favorite Stats BM would HAVE to be the third quarter benchmark. That benchmark was all about probability and the statistics of obtaining one object over the other. I always had a problem with keeping up with the math of certain probabilities but with that benchmark, it helped me keep up with it and not get so lost. Finding a way to be creative with the task was also a super fun way to keep me interested in the project. But the project seemed easy, which in some cases it was, but the only explanation for that is because the previous work before the benchmark was assigned helped me get a much better understanding and made me feel like I breezed through it. So overall, that benchmark gave me a well deserved understanding of probability.

Inquiry: Using two boxes or bags of Skittles; what are the probabilities of grabbing certain colors of Skittles out of a bag?

Research: Find the equation for obtaining one type of Skittle after another.

Collaboration: Get a few peers to grab a certain amount of Skittles for me.

Presentation: Using a keynote to show the probabilities of getting a certain color of candy/candies. Multiple slides will show the differences between two colors or
one color on its’ own.

Reflection: Reflect on if the probabilities are plausible and if the presentation could be better.

Egypt Gapminder: Health and Education

Posted by Kamille Granby in Globalization - Laufenberg on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 12:33 pm
The first picture represents the ratio of girls to boys in primary and secondary education in Egypt in the year 2005.
The second picture represents the Infant mortality in Egypt in the year 2005.

The y-axis or Life Expectancy for both graphs lay in or near 70 years but the x-axis, which is different for each graph, tend to be higher and radiating in the 20 or 30 area. While for the other graph, it's radiating in the 90s. The Infant mortality seems to be decreasing quickly over the years while Ratio of girls - boys is slowly increasing.

Kamille's Q3 CollapseBenchmark~

Posted by Kamille Granby in Globalization - Laufenberg on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at 11:00 pm
Oh! Well here it is.  > 'Collapse'ibility in China and Guatemala
Bibliography included.

The countries I chose were from two regions, Central America and East Asia. I picked these countries in order to learn more about them and their structure. The five point framework was quite simple but finding the 'correct' information was the challenge. There was not a hard part of the framework for me to look up. The only problem I had was trying to find out a way to present it. If I could do anything differently, I would have finished it earlier in order to get pointers on what to improve.

American Government Q2 Benchmark

Posted by Kamille Granby in American Government - Laufenberg on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 11:32 am
Hey, look! It's my benchmark!

When I was deciding which topics to use, I read them and tried to apply them to situations that I've encountered. Most of the topics that I came across had nothing to do with me, while some had a somewhat relevance to my life. The most complicated process was trying to put how it effects me and how I live into written or typed words. The process overall was simple yet challenging. Some of the topics, such as the ones in the Executive branch were easy to sort through. While other topics that were in the Judicial, were a bit harder to sort through or find. I can see my life becoming more affected by the government but not by a large amount. Reasoning being, since I already feel as though I'm not extremely affected by it now, I don't think it will change drastically just because I'm getting older.

Bureaucracy Reflection

Posted by Kamille Granby in American Government - Laufenberg on Sunday, December 19, 2010 at 2:01 pm

My bureaucratic 'task' that I selected was task Food Stamps. Food Stamps generally help low-income people purchase food. Although some of the wording on the paperwork was confusing. The paperwork was also lengthy and seemed to ask the easiest questions in the most complicated way. I would not change anything. The whole process was pretty straightforward altogether. But I think the systems have become so complicated so that the people who do not NEED the system, will not abuse it.
