For my capstone, I decided to create a BSU Archive. The purpose of my capstone is to give future leaders of BSU a guide full of tips and tricks so they can run the club easier and more efficiently. It has a series of google docs and videos that discuss key concepts that will be helpful in running the club successfully. As the President of BSU 2020, I recognize that in order for the club to grow each leader will need to build on the progress from the last. This project will provide the tools to do that.

Advanced Essay #3- Light on the Shadow

Posted by Jayden Tull in English 3 · Block/Harmon · Y Band on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 2:10 am

Violence. A word that has a negative history. Death, war, strife, anger, sadness, loss, brutality and many more are things that all can come from violence. But just because violence has negative associates doesn’t mean it is a negative thing. Look at this definition for violence, “Violence is the intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against oneself, another person, or against a group or community, which either results in or has a high likelihood of resulting in injury, death, psychological harm, maldevelopment, or deprivation.” (Violence in the Media and Entertainment, 2016).Violence is something that must be inflicted on someone but if you read that definition, the word evil or bad is not used. Does this mean not all violence is bad? Short answer, yes. Violence can be used in a positive way like to entertain or teach. It can also be used to get a positive outcome like arresting a murder. Violence is seen as a negative in the world but it is not always negative. As stated before, violence can be used to entertain. In the movie, Box Office, as of April 27th, 2019, Avengers Endgame is breaking records for the amount of money being made from people buying tickets. The movie is about superheroes who lost their friends in a war for magic stones by an alien titan and must fight to get their friends back. The movie is oozing with violence, but are people leaving that theatre traumatized? No, they are leaving entertained, and hopefully, they enjoyed those three hours. Another example is Boxing and MMA fighting. Those are sports where two people engage in hand to hand combat willingly. According to HBO, roughly 820,000 on average are watching a boxing match in person or live.”The most widely watched live bout on HBO of 2018, a middleweight title fight between Gennady Golovkin and Vanes Martirosyan, drew 1.3 million viewers.”( HBO Says It Is Leaving the Boxing Business-nytimes).People pay good money to see them fight and the fighters get paid good money to fight. People who watch fights are entertained. They have repurposed something negative and made it positive. Violence is also used to teach. One way to discipline a child when they were being naughty was with a good ole wack on the cheek or hand. Or in some cases, a butt whooping. Speaking from my own experience I know I am a better, more sensible person because I received the occasional spanking. Not only parents but teachers used this method as well, back in the day when kids would misbehave, it was normal for a teacher to wack a child with a ruler on the hand. I bet a lot of you teachers reading this still wish it was. Violence is even transferred to our children shows. Shows like Power Rangers or PJ Mask; These shows and many like them are made to teach children about friendship and morals. When the bad guys do bad things or put others in harm’s way, the hero’s fight to bring them to justice, even in cartoons that air on Disney junior. In shows like this, violence is used to show kids that if you do bad things you get disciplined; not groom them to be criminals. Acts that may be seen as brutal or cruel are usually not unprecedented, meaning there’s always a meaning behind it. Violence can happen for both good and bad reasons. One good reason is self-defense. There are many situations where self-defense is warranted like breaking and entering, robbery, bullying, protection of others and self; the list can go on. Although some of these issues can be “talked out” or worked out in a non-vicious way it is not certain and since we are a violent species we will naturally gravitate o the more ungoverned method. Humans often succumb to their primitive nature when riled up or follow instincts when scared and before we were civilized, we were like wild animals. According to research by Steven Stinker, ” bodies and brains have “direct signs of design for aggression,” and that men, in particular, bear the marks of “evolutionary history of violent male-male competition.” (black Slate, 2002, Steven Stinker); the things that usually got us to that state was wild animals. Usually, wild animals are vicious and dangerous so when you see one in its natural habitat, you need to be ready to defend yourself. You are in their world and in their world, it’s kill or be killed. Wanting to live warrants violence and it is those ideals and mindsets that transfers to today when we feel threatened and feel the need to defend. Violence is like Thanos, (WARNING AVENGERS ENDGAME JOKE!!!!!!)is inevitable. It’s apart of our everyday lives. The average adolescent has an 80% chance of witnessing violence on their phone or TV (Violence in the Media and Entertainment ). Violence can’t be deleted. Just like Sir Isaac Newton says:” for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.”. Where the there is good there is bad, where there is light there is dark, where there is sausage pizza there will be pineapple pizza, and where there is peace there will be violence. Instead of trying to take it out our society we should embrace it so that we may control it. Allow the light to shine over the shadow. “I would rather control the weapon then not have it so that our enemy can” (Jayden Tull 2019).

Advanced Essay #2 Under Pressure

Advanced Essay #2 Under Pressure

Peer pressure is everywhere. If you make a decision based on any opinions, ideas or advice from anybody but yourself, that's peer pressure. Peer pressure is seen as a child’s issue and although it is most common in teenagers, peer pressure can happen to people of all ages. Peer pressure is seen as negative but it can be positive as well. Being vulnerable to peer pressure is a big part of one's identity. It’s about being true to who you are but also learning from others to become the best you can be.  Here's an example of how I handled peer pressure.

“Bro I didn’t know you were about that life?”
“What you mean?” I said back.
“Bro that’s no regular Brownie”
When he said that I caught on. I was holding an edible in my hand. I looked around and noticed all my friends chowing down on the brownies and I debated. I mean everyone else was enjoying themselves why can’t I?  I contemplated heavy.
“Jay, you gonna eat that jawn or you finna hold it like it has sentimental value?” my friend says with a mouth full. My other friends laugh at his joke.  I chuckled too to hide my worry.  I mean drugs?! That’s not me but what do I know. I’ve never tried it. Plus all my friends say it’s fun and I should try it. I decide to just hold it and walk around with it, pretend I been eating them the whole time when it’s the same piece I had an hour ago. I felt like I was one of them. My one friend saw me and was like
“Jayden if you don’t stop playing and eat that brownie we know its the same one. If you don’t want it just put it back you don’t gotta pretend with us.”

So I put it back. I remembered that I don’t have to be high to have fun and I didn’t want to do something that wasn’t me. My friends tried to convince me but I stood my ground, staying true to myself.
At that moment, I faced a conflict between seeking acceptance from my friends and staying true to who I was. While this is one form of peer pressure, there are many other forms. One form is Dares, most of the time a dare is something you don’t really want to do but people convinced you to or made fun of you because you didn’t want to. The main thing that makes peer pressure work is our desire for acceptance. Serenity Lawrence talks about the peer pressure and how it works in her Ted Talk. She says, “By doing things to fit in you get this feeling of acceptance which is like an award to your brain” (Lawrence April 2018). From this point, we can see that as people we value acceptance. Nobody wants to be separated or considered different. We would much rather be considered normal or cool, “good enough” for society. Now I know what your thinking. Being Different is good, but what you don't realize is that being different is today's normal. We follow the norms unconsciously and mistake action for our own ideas when we actually do it sometimes just to fit in. We succumb to peer pressure without even knowing.
Teens are the most common group to be affected by peer pressure. There was an article about watching the people you surround yourself with. It says, “teens may find it more difficult to control impulsive or risky behaviors when their friends are around”(Schoolistic 2008).   Submitting to someone else’s idea or opinion makes you a victim of peer pressure. This is most common in teens because between the ages of 14 and 17 most people go through the identity phase. That awkward phase where you are learning what kind of person you are. You are developing your individuality. For most adults, they are already firm in their identity so it is harder to pressure them into doing or thinking something out of their character. Peer pressure is everywhere. Just by talking to someone and sharing opinions, you are introduced to peer pressure. That’s not always a bad thing. Let’s say you been dressing a certain way your whole life and go to high school and now you update your look after seeing other kids. Boom: peer pressure and there’s nothing wrong with a new look. It’s not always bad.
Although conformity isn’t always bad, there are times we need to stay true to ourselves; there are ways to resist conformity. You don’t have to give in. It depends on your personal strength.  In this article about dealing with peer pressure, it said, ”Inner strength and self-confidence can help you stand firm, walk away, and resist doing something when you know better”(Dealing Peer Pressure). You control peer pressure. It’s more than just surrounding yourself with good people it’s also staying true to yourself. Know yourself, know your worth(that's Drake). This doesn’t necessarily mean don’t listen to anybody, listening to your peers can also be positive and help you grow as a person. You have to pick and choose how you respond to the new ideas and opinions. You are in control of how it affects you.
Peer pressure is a powerful thing. It can make or break you. You have to spot it and decide if you are going to conform to its ways or do you and follow your own path. That’s life, a big long journey full of different paths and roads leading to new things. Make sure you're the one choosing the path for yourself and not someone else.

“So do yall wanna call it or play universe in the rain?”

“UNIVERSE!”

“Alright let's go”

I lined up with my six other teammates. We all had the same intensity in our eyes, I started to giggle with excitement, I mean this is Ultimate Frisbee  at its finest. We had a full 7 on 7, each player was skilled for the game and to top it off it was pouring down raining. My team had defense first so we threw the frisbee down the field. The other team caught it and connected a few passes. The disc gets to one of their handlers and he messed up his throw. I don’t blame him, I mean it’s raining hard and we are throwing a piece of smooth plastic around, it’s bound to be slippery. It didn't matter anyway because not too long after my team did the same.

The two teams were evenly matched. I realized that the other team had one player making all the plays so I called a switch so I could mark him and shut him down. With me on him nobody would throw him the disc. Finally he loses me by faking like he was walking then taking off. He had a good three steps on me, just enough for him to get the disc. He was fast but I was faster. They threw him the disc and using all my speed I ran and dove in front of him blocking the disc with the tips of my fingers. He drops the disc making it a turn over, our disc. I was so excited that I bursted down field and ran for the endzone. My teammate picked up the disc and threw it to me but it fell short of the endzone so I doubled back to catch it. I saw an open man and threw it but like everybody else it slipped from my hands and I threw it right into the other team's hands. They capitalized on my mistake and threw it down field and scored. We lost. For a split second I was the hero of the game but I was also  the downfall of what should have been an easy win.

After the game we gathered for lunch. I was soak and wet so I went back to my dorm room to change into some dryer clothes. The walk to my room and to the cafeteria was kinda depressing for me. I kept going back to the moment when the disc slipped out my hands. Like I can never finish. This is a reoccurring thing with me like I do something good or even awesome but soon after I make a mistake that overshadows my good making my good pointless. I wish I was like those kids who don’t make mistakes or make small mistakes that really don’t matter so I can stop making a fool of myself. The rain sure did not help but aid in putting me into my depressing mood.  I finally made it to the cafeteria and I came in to a warm welcome and everybody congratulating me on my block. It was like nobody noticed my mistake costed my team the game. They were super siked about the D. Somebody even got it on video. I still felt bad but listening to everyone saying that I did good brightened the day and made me feel better. One of my coaches/counselors came up to me and said:

“Why so glum chum?”

“Just thinking about how I messed that throw?”

“Duude! Are you serious? You made an amazing block made the biggest play of the game and your crying over a bad throw. You can’t worry about your mistakes, you must learn from them. What you should focus on is what you did right and give yourself a pat on the back. Don’t let your mistakes rule your life.”

After she said that I started carrying myself different. I became comfortable with my mistakes and I learn from them much easier.  Don't focus too hard on the bad, keep your head up and stay positive. Nobody is perfect accept your mistakes and let them make you a better person.

Lord of the flies Essay

Posted by Jayden Tull in English 2 · Pahomov · E Band on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 8:31 pm

Sides of A Leader.

What do humans value in a leader? Do Humans want somebody strong or weak? Does their character plays a role? The idea of a good leader varies from person to person. This was expressed in  William Golding’s Lord of the Flies. The main characters, Ralph and Jack, get into many arguments  about which of them are the better leader. They are polar opposites and butt head on every issue till the end of the book. Even though the leader has loyalty and control of their followers leaders will use force and fear to make other people change to their side because they cannot turn off the need to conquer everything.

In the book, a group of english boys crash land on an island where they are the only people there but island has plenty of fruit and pigs for them to eat. After evaluating their circumstances they elected Ralph for leader of the group. Jack did not like this, believing that he should be leader thus starting off the rivalry between Jack and Ralph. To accommodate Jacks uneasiness with not being leader Ralph made Jack captain of the hunters. This kept little balance. While Ralph was in charge, the boys didn’t do much work or keep up on the island. It was mainly Ralph and Piggy ( a nice kid who stood by Ralph since the beginning) doing work, building huts for the littluns, and keeping up the signal fire so they can signal any ships passing by so they could be rescued. Most of the boys were focused on a “monster.” There was no real monster, it just a personification of the boys imagination and fear. Jack decides making the monster top priority and needs to be hunted down. The believers of the monster join his crusade leaving Ralph who isn’t really worried about the monster and just wants to get off the island. Eventually all the kids have been persuaded or tortured to join Jack's tribe leaving Ralph and Piggy to survive on their own.

When the kids left Ralph to follow Jack in his savage ways it lead to the idea of switching sides and what makes people want to switch sides. After doing research, an article about switching sides came up. Most of theses ideas came from a book called “Nudges” by Richard H. Thaler, PhD, and Cass R. Sunstein, JD.The authors study behavioral science. The article says that two main tactics for switching one’s side is lying or torturing. Lying is like persuading. It's a way to convince people that they have what they want or joining they side is at their best interest. Torture is more of a force. They use tactic to force them onto their side. Making fear and pain their persuaders.

In chapter 8, the boys divides into two groups. Jack was leader of one of these groups and he ruled with an iron fist. He left Ralph because they had completely different views on how they should survive on the Island. He gets tired of Ralph’s ways, he says,” I’m not going to be apart of Ralphs lot-- I’m going off by myself. He can catch pigs on his own. Anyone who wants to hunt when I do can come too.”(27) His group started off with just the kids from choir and a few others but it grew. The boys started to realize that Jacks way was more prosperous and more fun. What he said  before he stormed off was a way persuasive talking. To the other boys he’s the only one who knows how to actually hunt. He also gave them a choice. When they first came to the island they made Ralph leader and that was it, now they can choose Ralph or Jack. Choice gives people a sense of power so now they may follow him because of the things that Jack has to offer. It was up to them to choose their own path and leader. After he gives them the choice, those who didn’t join over time were forced to join. There was a point in chapter 11 where all the boys joined Jack's tribe except a few including Ralph and Piggy. The tribe took Piggy’s glasses to make fire leaving poor Piggy blind. So for Piggy and to make their own fire the remaining members of team Ralph travel up to Castle Rock to retrieve Piggy’s glasses. When they get there the Tribe is hostile and Jack and Ralph get into an argument that turns into a fist fight in the midst of it Piggy gets pushed off a cliff side by a boulder and dies. Ralph runs for his life and those of team Ralph who stayed were tortured into joining the tribe, “ You got to Join the tribe.”(182) Now they are using force and fear. This tactic is used when words don’t influence others. Jack has all the boys that were easily persuaded now he needs the ones who need a nudge to join his side. A leader who has used fear in the past is Ivan the Terrible. He was a darranged leader. A wiki site described him as “intelligent and devout, yet given to rages and prone to episodic outbreaks of mental instability”. The fact that one minute Ivan was chill and sensible and the next he could be angry and sentence his followers to death scared people. As a servant to Ivan they would never know where they stood. That’s a scary thought knowing that one slip up could be your life. So in fear the people, of Moscow kept quiet and followed Ivan without question. This shows that fear is a strong controlling factor and leaders use it to control followers and demand loyalty amongst them.

When Ralph was leader, this wasn’t the case. Ralph was chosen to be leader because he had charisma and a plan. Ralph came out the plan barking orders. It was Ralph’s idea to blow a conch that would signal to the boys for them to meet up. Ralph wasn’t good leader just because of his ideas he also had charisma. Charisma is compelling attractiveness or charm that can inspire devotion in others. But after reading that definition it can be said that he had limited charisma because he could only get a few boys to actually do work and after a while he lost the boys devotion and they changed sides. As time went on Ralph no longer had what the boys wanted in their leader.

That’s the thing with leadership. The moment the leader no longer has or is what his followers want, his people want a change and sometimes that means a new leader. Jack went on his own because he believed that he would make a better chief. A better leader. He convinced  and forced the boys to join him and prove that his leadership is the best. The boys fell for the two main ways of coaxing one's thoughts. Persuading and force. They were young so it was easier. If they were older, more force would have been involved. So what makes people switch sides  is a change their mindset or an overwhelming force that's more controlling than their mindset. If the leader can scare them into the other side, fear of the leader will make that side the better choice, against their better judgement. A great way to control a group is by using fear, but it is not always the best way. Lord of The Flies was a great example of what fear can do to a person.

Monologue//Broken Pride

Posted by Jayden Tull in Foundations of Algebra · Estey · D Band on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 9:31 am

Thanks Coach! (Coach walks away after giving him a pat on the back now he is to himself on the sidelines.) Let’s get it. Finally I got some real play time. Not 5 minutes, not 10 minutes, but 15 whole minutes, plus while I was out there I had a shot on net, I mean I didn’t make it but still. I need to make sure I’m ready go back in cuz the way I was playin, I’m def going back in.(sips water and walks over to bench and slightly limping) oo that walk kinda hurt. Woah its starting to hurt to stand. (sits down) Let’s gooo Cosmos!! This cleat getting tight and my foot really hurts. I must’ve kicked that ball harder than I thought. ( takes off cleat) ooo that meg alejandro saucin it up today. Yo what is going on with my… is that my toe?! That jawn dumb fat. I-I-I-I can’t move my toe(starts panicking) crap I done messed up my toe. It’s cool I’m good I can still play ain’t nothing keeping me from getting back into this game.(tries to put back on cleat) are you serious, I can’t put a cleat on because my foots so fat.
GOALALSO!!! (tries to stand and celebrate with team but fails) ah I can’t even stand. That’s it I’m out for the day. I gotta tell coach that I think I broke my toe. I’ve broken bones before no problem, I broke my wrist last summer, my pinky before that, my other pinky before that, even my thumb. Like all them bones and not one tear but this one got me about to cry like 2 year old whole couldn’t that one doll out of the toy store. So why is my toe different. Is it because of the pain cuz trust me this crap hurt like my whole foot is immobilized by the pain. Like every movement of my foot, ankle, and leg hurts. Like i can’t do nothing without bringing the stinging pain to my foot. Like I can’t compare this pain to nothing I’ve ever experienced.(holds foot) Or is this deeper than pain, maybe because we all know that this it for me, for my season.(pauses and looks at field) ooooooohhhh Alejandro wit the rainbow.(looks at coach) sorry coach I’m out I think I broke my toe….. How? Ummm that’s good question. (back to self thought) That kid! Number 27. That fat white kid. The one who messed up my shot. I remember now. When I kicked the ball it wasn’t the ball. It was his foot. That’s how it broke. I already didn’t get a lot of play time. Now I could be out for the rest of the season. Look I know I’m not the best player in the world but I try my hardest and I give it my all every time I touch the field. Who am I kidding. Lets face it I’m top trash. I can’t dribble I can’t do none of that fancy stuff like Alejandro, my passes are inconsistent and my shot. Tuh my shot I don’t even know if I’m right footed or left footed. But I still try my best and this.. this what I get for hard work. Is this the result of my training. The worst part is I feel like I was getting better. And so did coach. You know last practice was the first time I went a whole practice without a single insult from coach or a player. No you suck or no jokes about how I can’t aim. Or how I ride the bench every game. I finally felt like part of the team. Well that’s all over now. and my mom. She’s gonna kill me when she finds out. To her I’m always breaking something but I’ve only broke like 5 bones is that really a lot? I mean we have 206 bones in our bodies. What’s 5 to 206. Practically nothing. But she don’t care she gonna be mad I’d rather act like nothing’s wrong than deal with her. I want revenge when I get back I’m scoring in 27’s face and I want his ankles. Ima tell coach he’s mine he better be ready when I get back. I mean If I get back.

Small in Size but Big in Spirit

Posted by Jayden Tull in English 2 · Pahomov · C Band on Friday, September 29, 2017 at 2:54 pm

“All right, All Right!! It’s game time boys you ready!!?” said the captain.

“YEEEAAAH!!!!” The team screamed back.

“ That’s what I want to here! Arlight Cosmos let’s get this dub. Cosmos on 3 Cosmos on 3. 1! 2! 3!”

“COSMOS!”

It’s a cloudy day, a little chilly but not too cold. Perfect weather for soccer. Today we were playing a team called Lighthouse. I play for the Cheltenham Cosmos. As a new player I didn’t get a lot of play time so when I got in I played my best. Aside from personal skills I have a serious height disadvantage. I am only 4’9 so I am really short compared to other kids my age. Despite all this I get up and work hard to earn my spot on the team.

“Jayden! Get ya ass over here!” The coach said.

“Yes coach” I replied anxiously.

“I’m putting you on left mid Will needs a break. Can you play that today?”

“Yes coach”

“That’s what I like to hear. Keep ya head in the game, now go warm up.”

I got excited, finally a chance to play. I got subbed in and the second I went in I was running back and forth to the ball. And back and forth and back then back then forth. In 7 minutes of me on the field I only touched the ball twice and when I got it I had to pass it right away.after 10 minutes coach subs me out and tells me I did good. This made me feel good cause now I have served my purpose, now I am worth something to this team. When I got back the team that was on bench all congratulated me and said I did. I was happy but I was thinking to myself, what did I do on the field to deserve so much praise? All I did was pass the ball. Halftime came and we were up,5 to 2. Coach says the score doesn’t matter that it’s always 0 to 0 during the entire game. We gotta play like it's Golden Goal. First Goal wins.

“We’re doing good boys keep up the intensity. Same line up but Jayden I want you up top. Your speed will creep on them and by the time they realize you’re there you gonna be gone. Put balls on net got it?” said the Coach

“Yes coach!” I said nervously

I usually play mid or defensive back but forward? That’s a whole other level, but I can’t let coach down so I gotta play my hardest. The half starts from the grip I’m already touching the ball way more. In 5 minutes I already had two shots on net. The goalie saved both of them but still, I’m doing good. Now here’s where I shine the other team has subbed out 3 kids on their defense. All of them are strong but not faster or more physical than me. I made a few good runs but I haven’t really done anything significant. During this one play, there was this one player who wasn’t paying me any attention.

“Ayo Brad watch 35 he’s on ya back.” said a player from the sideline.

“Yo don't worry about short stuff over there, focus on 13!" the player responded.

So you  know this where the player from the other team messed up because I now am motivated to score because he thinks I’m not gonna do anything so now I gotta prove him wrong. The other team shoots the ball at our net and our goalie saved it.The ball gets punted up field and since the guy was so far away from me I just darted for it. One thing the player didn't know was that even though I'm short, i’m very fast and the player couldn't catch me. I ran so fast that I got the ball and put it the top right corner.

"Yeah don't focus on short stuff worry about the other boul" I said to the player as walked back to my position. The player had the funniest look on his face. Coach was so proud of me and I was happy. I finally proved myself.

All this happened four years ago. Today I am 16 and still playing soccer along with the new sport called Ultimate Frisbee. Soccer taught me that size should never matter. Every sport is strictly intellectual, it’s all in ya head. It’s not enough just to have skills and athletic abilities, you must have a drive and the will to keep pushing and fight for what you want.

Since that day I’ve carried that and always told myself to never give up. By the I’m still short, I’m only 5’3 now. So I know that I can do anything you put your mind to.

Scandium Print

Posted by Jayden Tull in Art - Freshman · Hull · d2 Band on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 11:41 am

  1. My Element is Scandium. Its ATN is 21

  2. Scandium was discovered by Lars F. Nilson in 1879, in Uppsala, Sweden. He extracted it from euxenite, a complex mineral containing eight metal oxides. He had already extracted erbium oxide from euxenite, and from this oxide he obtained ytterbium oxide and then another oxide of a lighter element whose atomic spectrum showed it to be an unknown metal. Scandium is mainly used for research purposes.  An aluminium-scandium alloy has been used in Russian MIG fighter planes, high-end bicycle frames and baseball bats.

  3. As I was reading about it they said my element was hard to find and that they had to scavenge for it and when I hear the word scavenge I think of the bird scavenger, better known as the Vulture.

  4. I first drew different versions of my vulture and picked the best one. Next I redrew it but on a bigger scale. After that I got transparent paper and traced over it.(there’s a lot of drawing and tracing) Then  using the transparent paper I traced my print backwards on an impressionable piece of material. Finally I got some paint and rolled it onto my impressionable material and stamped it onto a piece of paper.

  5. If I could do this differently I would have made a more detailed vulture and used different colors.

  6. I enjoyed drawing out my ideas. It gave me a chance to use my imagination.

The Final Stretch

Posted by Jayden Tull in English 1 · Giknis · A Band on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 10:53 am

Well here we are. We have reached the end of my project which means this is my last post. It was a crazy ride. This project took a lot, I learned that you should keep up with your deadlines for assignments because once it’s late it gets added to the 15 million other things you have to do and it becomes more difficult to find time to complete it. Well that’s enough reflection, now let’s talk my progress since my last post and my agent of change.

First lets look at past posts. For you faithful viewers you should remember my first blog post where I introduce my project and it’s purpose and importance. That post had the most information about my issue. If you are new or just want reread that post please click here . After that post I then posted a second post called Exercising The Public. In that post I showed you my results from survey and talked a little bit about obesity and who it affects.

This is post 3 where I tell you about my agent of change. For my agent of change I partnered up with my good friend Elijah Afrifa. For his You and The World project he wanted to promote parks so that they can build more in the communities that need them. For more info on his project click here. Together me and Elijah invited some kids from Science Leadership Academy to join us for a day at the park.20170607_161511.jpg

We went to Penn Park and played sports and other games that involved physical exercise. The activities included: Soccer, a Relay race, Skateboarding, and a game of tag. This was to show that exercise could be fun and going to parks can be fun too.

 20170607_161702.jpg20170607_161647.jpg

From the reviews I got from the participants they said they enjoyed themselves and would like to do this again. Honestly if I were to do this again I would change the park because we had to share it it with others who were there doing their own thing. I would aslo plan it better because it was kinda last minute and not a lot of people could come.

This shows that it’s not hard to get out there and exercise, you just need to find the time to do it. If you are still stuck on where to start with exercising look at this site. It has a ton of information and it gives workout routines to help you plan out workouts. If you choose to do any these plans you should do them consistently. I think I have another website like that one that also gives out ways to workout in my Annotated Bibliography.

Thank you for your faithful reading. I hope you took this to heart and decided to get you health and body on the right track if it wasn’t already. Till next time stay healthy.

Exercising the public

Exercising the Public

So last time I talked about the general idea of exercise and why it was important. Now I have done some research of my own. I have sent out a survey to get everyones opinion on exercising. If you didn’t read my last blog or you’re just generally confused on what I am talking about or the purpose of this post read my first post. It’s really informative and will explain my topic well. You can also check out my annotated bibliography for all of my research and websites.

Screenshot 2017-05-29 at 11.45.25 AM.png

As you can see, out of the 86 responses I got a majority of my responders are female. From that I can make educated guesses of of what gender said what in all my questions. So for rest of this blog I make guesses based on the amount of answers to question and my outside knowledge.

Screenshot 2017-05-29 at 11.46.10 AM.png

Also, the age of my responders will also play a factor in my educated guess. If you have any thoughts on my opinion please let me know in the comments section of this post. Well I think I have explained how things worked enough now let’s get to these questions.

Screenshot 2017-05-29 at 11.46.33 AM.png

Screenshot 2017-05-29 at 11.48.16 AM.png

As you can a majority of my responders are active but a big portion is not. Judging by the average age of my responders I conclude that it's the more older people who are less active than the younger, which is not surprising. As you age you start to gain responsibilities and new ways to occupy your free time. Eventually if not committed to having that perfect body you start to lose interest and stop exercising. I believe that’s one of the reasons that obesity is more common in adults over 20 then in the age groups under it. Obesity is the condition of being grossly fat or overweight. Obesity often results from taking in more calories than are burned by exercise and normal daily activities. Obesity occurs when a person's body mass index is 30 or greater. The main symptom is excessive body fat, which increases the risk of serious health problems. The mainstay of treatment is lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise. For more information on Obesity go to this site and read up.

After I received my response I used my results and made my conclusions about people  in general. As you age exercise becomes less and less of an everyday activity. I’m a very active person and I’m 16 and I don’t see that part about me changing so that’s not true for everybody. For those of you it is, please join a gym or try to get into some type of regular exercise. If you need help starting one or just need a jump start please let me know and stay tuned for my agent of change which should aid with that.

Final Stamp Design

Posted by Jayden Tull in Art - Freshman · Hull · d2 Band on Friday, May 12, 2017 at 9:50 pm

Hi my name is Jayden Tull and this my stamp design. My stamp design is a dog. I made it a dog because the stamp is suppose to represent us and who we are. I picked a dog because dogs loving, playful, smart, strong, and loyal, all qualities I consider myself to have. Now I didn’t make this cut out for my amusement, it was an assignment. The assignment was to make a positive and negative space cut out of an image that represents you. What is positive and negative space you ask? Negative space is when you have a picture that has one main part shaded in or around the picture.and positive space is the fill out of the image. So when you look at my stamp the white is negative space giving it the shape and the brown is the actual image that you are seeing giving it dimension. Don’t worry if you don’t understand positive and negative space just yet, I was stuck for a second too. I could look at a picture and tell you which was which but making it for myself was a struggle. You had too see things that wasn’t even there because it wasn’t cut out yet so you have to draw and plan for that. I personally struggled with that but with help from friends and my teacher I was able to make my stamp. After doing this assignment I learned that we see positive and negative space everyday. One way we see it is shadows. All shadows are is positive and negative space. Thanks for viewing hope you enjoy.

Negative and positive space cut out

Posted by Jayden Tull in Art - Freshman · Hull · d2 Band on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 6:24 pm

Negative space is when you have a picture that has one main part shaded in or around the picture. Just look at my image, see how the green gives out the shape of the bird. The green is the positive space and the black is the negative space.

I found negative space by tracing out the outline and moving key detailed parts to give it it’s dimensions.

It helps them by giving them the shape of the image so now they can later add detail.

Yes it gives an overview of the image.

The Importance of Exercise

Posted by Jayden Tull in English 1 · Giknis · A Band on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 10:36 pm

You probably already know or at least heard about how important exercise is for you and your body. But what you don’t know are the facts behind that importance. Like, did you know that exercise can help prevent heart diseases like, diabetes, low and high blood pressure? My project is about exercise, how we don’t get enough and why it is important. There’s more for you to know so if you’re interested please read the rest of this blog to learn more.

First we will talk about the benefits of exercise. As mentioned before, exercise can prevent heart and other diseases  like diabetes, low and high blood pressure and even some forms of cancer. Exercise is really important, especially when you’re younger. If you start an exercising routine when younger it will be easier for you to keep up with it as you get older. Children nowadays don’t get enough exercise. Now I know what you’re thinking,”kids don’t get the exercise they need because of the TV and new technology of today”. Although that plays a factor, that's not the entire reason. Some of issue simply they may not know what to do or have anybody to do it with. If you’re a parent/guardian it is part of your job to help them stay active. If you are asking yourself why is this so important please visit this site to learn more about the importance of child exercise. Exercise isn’t just for kids, it’s just as important for adults to get exercise. To learn more about click here.

Image result for adults exercisingadults working together https://www.consumerhealthdigest.com/workouts/exercise-according-to-age-group.html

Now lets dig deeper into the benefits of exercise and staying healthy. I’ve already mentioned that can help prevent diseases but did you know that it can help the mind too. Exercising causes the body to produce endorphins, chemicals that can help a person to feel more peaceful and happy, It can help people sleep better, and help people with mild depression and low esteem. Exercise can give people a sense of accomplishment when they achieve a goal like scoring a point in a game or finish a morning run. Now there are different types of exercises that help your body. There are three components to a well-balanced exercise routine are: aerobic exercise, strength

training, and flexibility training. Aerobic exercise is any type of exercise that gets the heart pumping and quickens your breathing. Strength Training is when you basic things that you’d do in a gym that builds your muscles. Flexibility training includes stretching exercises for the purpose of increasing one's range of motion. For more information on the benefits and how these forms of exercise help your body click this link to learn more.

This shows the difference a person who exercises regularly and a person who doesn’t http://reclaimyourlongevity.com/articles/reduce-disease-risk/muscle-downgrade-is-a-blow-to-your-body/Image result for strong healthy muscles

Now you can just go outside and go for a run but there are also cool routines and specific exercises that can help your body in whatever way you need. This site suggest a few of those.

I choose the issue of the importance of exercise because not a lot of people know how important it actually is. As an athlete I take my body seriously and like to keep it healthy and in shape. I want to spread the word about exercise so that those who want to become lean and healthy now have the knowledge to do so. Now you have no excuse.

For all my sources and a brief description about their content take a look at my Annotated Bibliography. Thank you for your time and please tune in for more about the importance of exercise.

Printmaking a revolutionary art form

Posted by Jayden Tull in Art - Freshman · Hull · d2 Band on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 8:42 pm

Hello and welcome to my blog about the art of printmaking. What is printmaking you ask? Relief printing is a process where protruding surface faces of the printing plate or block are inked; recessed areas are ink free. This art form is one of the best because it is mobile and pretty easy to complete.

There are 9 different ways to perform relief printing. The relief family of techniques includes woodcut, metalcut, wood engraving, relief etching, linocut, rubber stamp, foam printing, potato printing, and some types of collagraph. The most common way to do a relief print is wood cuts. This style of printing was established in the 15 century. Johannes Gutenberg started work on his printing press around 1436, in partnership with Andreas Dritzehn.

Now this form of art can take a place on almost any canvas. It’s most common place is paper. There are a lot of different things you can use to print it aswell. It uses ink the most. The ink is what you see on the paper that makes up the image.

This art form is revolutionary because of its features. It has a feature that makes it movable. Another thing about it is that you can make more than one painting by using the same template multiple times. This form of art is really cool. Another cool thing about it is that it doesn’t just make art. It can make money and newspapers.

"Gopher Tortoise" - Mary Wolfe

Image result for relief printmaking The image above is Turtle eating a branch of leaves. The artist use positive and negative space to create the turtles shape. The white lines on the turtle create a pattern that we normally see on a turtle’s back. I think this was a picture of the artist pet or something. They probably caught it in action of eating. I think this is a good painting because the artist uses the space well darkens the spaces perfectly. I wonder how hard it was to make this artwork. I notice the lines in the background that give a sense ground so the turtle doesn’t look like it was floating. I can’t help but think what if there was more picture, it might have deeper context.

1 slide (1)

I lI I learned that color is really important and so is the structure of your photos. You need to make sure both are clear and pleasing to the eye. That why I changed the color of my title and changed its positioning. I also played with where the pictures as well to make sure the weren’t going off the slide. I also got rid of some photos because I thought there was too many and that they were distracting.

Jays Media

Why my design

I choose this design because I wanted my slide to be like one of those collage billboards. You know the the billboards that have multiple pictures about one subject or product. I was try to show the aspects of my life. I wanted pictures that could reach the viewer and give them something to relate to. I was trying to use glance media and catch your eye and make you a little interested in my slide. Now looking back at my slide I wish I would have done closer research on design instead of just listening to my peers and and using only a fraction of the billboard designing ideas from the     http://www.presentationzen.com/presentationzen/2008/08/learning-from-the-design-around-you-ikea.html . I could have made this slide way better. I could have used more pop and eye catching colors and changed the color of my font so that everyone can see also my images.
