Justin Mack's Capstone

Posted by Justin Mack in Capstone · Hernandez/Hull · Wed on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at 8:25 pm

For my capstone, I hosted a shoe drive throughout the month of April. I hosted this shoe drive to gain more experience in giving back to others who are in need. I also have a passion for collecting sneakers so I knew doing a shoe drive was exactly what I wanted to do. I noticeably found out that people tend to sell and throw away sneakers in good conditions, and hosting a shoe drive will instead attract people to give them away to a better cause. I worked with an organization called Soles4Souls which serves a mission of providing relief by distributing sneakers all around the world to the people in need. This shoe drive brought variety of pairs of sneakers from pre-owned to brand new, different colors and sizes. With my process of my shoe drive, I post this on social media and asked friends and family who had shoes they wanted to donate. After my shoe drive, I received over fourty pairs of shoes in different conditions and sizes. With the shoes I gathered, I sorted them out by sizes from youth and women sizes in one bag, and men sizes in another bag. I then drove an hour to New Jersey to hand deliver the sneakers to my local drop off location. I found this shoe drive very successful, as I felt like I was only going to receive a few pairs of shoes, instead, receiving and achieving over my intended goal of 30 pairs of sneaker donations.

Annotated Bibliography

Ravenhill, Megan. The Culture of Homelessness. Routledge, 2016.

After reviewing this source, it provided a lot of experiences with the homeless as well as causes that impacts a person into becoming homeless. It also provides the impact on long-term homelessness and homelessness process of getting back on their feet into a house society. This source gives me more insight on how homelessness is caused and the process of living as a homeless. What I noticed was that this book was published in 2016, meaning that these are fairly recent news regarding the homelessness of the 21st century. This source is more of an overview over homelessness for my project and later on in this capstone process, use this morally as an introduction for my film and presentation.

“Characteristics of Persons Who Are Homeless for the First Time.” Psychiatric Services, 1 Nov. 2002, ps.psychiatryonline.org/doi/full/10.1176/appi.ps.53.11.1472.

This source showed the characteristics of a person who becomes homeless for the first time. Something that I notice is that this homeless project took place in Toronto and interviewed 300 people in a homeless shelter who had recently became homeless. They had more similarities than differences and a major similarity is from the way that they all had issues regarding childhood experiences that relates to housing. The people who have short term experience with homelessness, after 6 months, 60 percent will fall right back into homelessness and into homeless shelters. This source is credible to me because I can use this in the beginning of my documentation.

Uccioli, Luigi, et al. “Manufactured Shoes in the Prevention of Diabetic Foot Ulcers.” Diabetes Care, American Diabetes Association, 1 Oct. 1995, care.diabetesjournals.org/content/18/10/1376.

This source is credible to me because it explains the effects of people without shoes. Many homeless people do not have something to walk in. Homeless people are always on their feet begging for money, or traveling to somewhere safer for them. Many of the homeless can inherit foot ulcers which can be bad for the homeless. Researchers find that it can get worse when continuing to walk without treatment. This source was really helpful for me because I may run into a homeless who has a foot ulceration and providing a gift of shoes to them will be helpful.

To, Matthew J., et al. “Foot Conditions among Homeless Persons: A Systematic Review.” PLOS ONE, Public Library of Science, 9 Dec. 2016, www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5147925/.

Foot problems are a common issue from homeless people, but are also very overlooked. This source summarizes the research about foot conditions and associated interventions among the homeless. Walking is a common form of transportation among the homeless which increases the risk of foot problems. Overall, the lack of health services because of financial resources prevents the homeless to recieve the right and best treatments. This source is credible to me because it gives me more information on why the homeless needs shoes more than anything. There are too many who walks barefoot especially in the cold and hot weathers.

News, CBS. “The Rise of Sneaker Culture.” CBS News, CBS Interactive, 1 Dec. 2016, www.cbsnews.com/pictures/the-rise-of-sneaker-culture/.

This source gives me an insight on “the sneaker culture” meaning that I learn more about how sneakers evolved and became important to the fashion as well as lifestyle industry. The gallery of particular shoes and the description about how its fame was created, showed that the particular choice of primary colors and geometric shapes, as well as the limited pairs made, which makes the demand for the shoe much higher. This source isn’t particularly going to make a big impact on my presentation, but it gives me a better reasoning to donate shoes to the homeless as a sign of giving them something they can cherish.

Johnson, Robert. “I Spent The Night In A Homeless Shelter-Here's What It Was Like.” Business Insider, Business Insider, 18 Jan. 2012, www.businessinsider.com/sleepingin-a-homeless-shelter-2012-1.

A reporter decided to see what it's like to be in a homeless shelter. He tried going into one in New York City, but he failed. He turned his way to Atlantic City where he somehow found a source that would take him in. The reporter explained that everything was well except for the bed, which was very tight and had trouble sleeping. This source is credible for my documentary because I am able to use this as a source on how homeless shelters are a good place for the homeless and with the amount of shoes I’m donating, it can be brought to a good home.

Silverman, MD Lance. “Two-Thirds Of Homeless Population Suffers From Foot Problems | Foot Doctor in St. Paul.” Silverman Ankle & Foot - Edina Orthopedic Surgeon, 22 Feb. 2017, www.anklefootmd.com/two-thirds-homeless-population-suffers-foot-problems/.

This source just like all my other foot sources, talks about the problems within the foot that the homeless has. Although this source provides much more in depth and main quotes from 2 students at Dalhousie Medical School in Canada, whose going out to these abrupted homeless populations. This is credible for my documentary because I want to run into these homeless people so that I can provide them a place to seek treatment. The shoe itself will not bring treatment, but ease foot problems and take some heavy weight off their feet.

dot, Toeslayer. “All about shoes.” The anatomy of the shoe, 1 Jan. 1970, allaboutshoes-toeslayer.blogspot.com/2009/10/anatomy-of-shoe-according-to-mcphoil.html

This source gives me the anatomy of a shoe which basically every part and function of shoe. It explains the different materials used, as well as how stitching works. It isn’t going to be used as a part of my project, but it is important for my process for just knowing more about a shoe and knowing every detailed part which gives my project informative based. I still find it credible because I am thinking about adding this onto the website I’m going to create for this project so that when I present, it gives details about it and how comfort plays a part within it.

“Best Sneakers For Walking.” Health.com, Oct. 2015, www.health.com/health/gallery/0,,20680036,00.html#sketchers-go-step.

I chose this source as a primary source because when I get into the process of using all my funds for finding a sneaker I want to buy, this would be the source I would go to. It has the perfect pairs that are affordable, as well as essential comfort parts that would provide cushioning. These would be good pairs for the homeless due to the fact that they travel their distance by feet. It would not impact my presentation itself, but it would show within the core value of research on how I found a credible source for choosing sneakers.

Fuller, Carey. “Homeless Shelter Systems and What They Don't Tell You.” The Huffington Post, TheHuffingtonPost.com, 27 Oct. 2011, www.huffingtonpost.com/carey-fuller/homeless-shelter-parents_b_1035952.html.

In a homeless shelter, this post explains that there is no guarantee when going to a homeless shelter. There is a process that the homeless has to go through. Even if they go through the process, there is still no guarantee that they will be manageable to get into the homeless shelter. They explained that there is also eligibility requirements. The particular man writing the post explains that he had an addiction which would not provide him shelter. I find this source credible to me because it gives me more details about homeless shelters that not all outside sources would hear about.

Reasons Beyond Advertising

Reasons beyond advertising

When someone is on the highway, or is walking home, they pass by a large rectangular board standing highly, easily visible. These are billboards with advertisements for a company, for the purpose of getting a message across to people. Some people ignore it and some actually pay attention to it. Billboards are important because the advertisements that are displayed are to impact the people that pay attention to them.

In Philadelphia, there was a protest about the SRC not paying teachers enough. Protest broke out and through all of it, nothing changed. According to CBS news, a teacher from Central High School, George Bezanis, raised $5000 to put up a crowdfunded billboard up on I-95. The billboard says, “Welcome to Philadelphia, where we don’t value our public schoolchildren. 5+ years without a raise for our teachers.” This went up to show awareness to the parents of students as well as the School District of Philadelphia, and to show that teachers were not getting paid enough to teach students. This would lead more parents, students, and others to help protest.

In Utah, two brothers raised $12000 to post a billboard to attack Jason Chaffetz to do his job. Jason Chaffetz is a US representative for the state of Utah. What he wasn’t doing, was investigating the Trump-Russia connection. The people of Utah weren’t happy about this which caused them to put up many messages on billboards all around Chaffetz local headquarters. From the power provided by the people, they were in hope that a change would occur. The brothers are gathering more people to help along with them. Although no changed has happened so far, the brothers are continuing to put up billboards until a change happens.

According to Yale Daily News, students from a class at Yale, has a project to create a quote that would send a message. During the period of this project, Trump had released his immigration ban against Muslims. Throughout the many quotes created by the many students, they all thought to create a new quote of the feelings they were brought upon the ban. “Hate Does Not Make Great.” This was the quote created by these students. To spread the feelings brought by these students, they effortly reached out to a billboard company to put it up out 15 minutes away from Yale’s campus on I-95. This was outside of the project’s requirements, but to spread a message against a big issue in America made people feel aware.

Billboards are essential to the cities that they’re located in. People need to be aware of the how billboards attract them so that people can get messages across so that a change in the city can happen. There are also regular company advertisements, but they get their message across to expand in the city. Overall, billboards easily get messages across to people and it can cause a change in  many people.

Over the many months writing 2fers, this is possibly my best 2fer ever written. This 2fer is my best one due to the fact that this is showing something that people see everyday. Billboards are something people see everyday and it can have a message to make someone smile. All the resources i gathered was a situation in a city that was people who was putting up billboards for a message, rather than the companies that are trying to pull in more customers.Although this isn’t my favorite topic to write about, it gives others to acknowledge what people provide to the city.

Chasing Love

Chasing Love

Comparing “Taming of the Shrew” to “West Side Story”

"Taming of the Shrew" proves, the idea of falling in love with someone soon after they meet is possible. In "Shrew," Petruchio were driven to make Katherine his wife when he first set his eyes on her. He went out of his way to ask her father for the consent to marry her and achieve the love he was looking for. In the 1961 movie "West Side Story," the character Tony has been led to the same situation of being caught up in love at first sight. He met a girl named Maria, who is also deeply in love with him. Tony goes out his way to hope he can get her without the interference of his boys and her brother Bernardo. In both of these scenarios, love at first sight shows the audience that people will do whatever it takes to chase after love.

Quote from play:

Petruchio: Signior Hortensio, ‘twixt such friends as we

Few words suffice; and therefore, if thou know

One rich enough to be Petruchio’s wife—

As wealth is burden of my wooing dance—

Be she as foul as was Florentius’ love,

As old as Sibyl, and as curst and shrewd

As Socrates’ Xanthippe or a worse,

She moves me not—or not removes at least

Affection’s edge in me, were she as rough

As are the swelling Adriatic seas.

I come to wive it wealthily in Padua;

If wealthily, then happily in Padua.

(Act 1 Scene 2 Line 62-73)

This quote from Petruchio is directed to Hortensio to let him know that he seeks a wife in Padua. He is mostly seeking a wife with a lot of wealth, and he does not care about any other features. Such as her being foul, old, and/or unpleasant. This shows that Petruchio is following a path that will lead him to finding love. The context of the quote shows that he is in Padua and is desperately looking for someone no matter who.

In West Side Story, Tony and Maria came to the dance separately. No one from the different gangs intermingled but them. They danced together until Bernardo separated them.

Screenshot 2017-04-24 at 12.01.34 AM.png

In this part of the scene from West Side Story, Tony and Maria locked eyes on each other at the dance. They walked towards each other and danced the night together until the point where they kissed. Bernardo, Maria’s older brother, broke them up and told Tony to stay away from his sister. Tony took to surprise that she was apart of the sharks. This truly shows the love at first sight that Tony and Maria had for each other during this scene of the first moment they met, but now Tony knows that he has a difficult task to fight and chase for Maria’s love knowing that she is apart of the other gang. Taming of the Shrew and West Side Story compares because Petruchio is in dire need of finding anyone while Tony already found someone, but is chasing after being with her.

Quote 2:

Thus in plain terms: your father hath consented

That you shall be my wife, your dowry ‘greed on,

And will you, nill you, I will marry you.

Now Kate, I am a husband for your turn,

For by this light, whereby I see thy beauty—

Thy beauty that doth make me like thee well—

Thou must be married to no man but me,

For I am he am born to tame you, Kate,

And bring you from a wild Kate to a Kate

Conformable as other household Kates.

Here comes your father. Never make denial.

I must and will have Katherine to my wife.

Act 1 Scene 2 Line 261-272

Petruchio lets Katherine know that he has the consent of her father Baptista to marry her. He lets her know that he will marry her whether she likes it or not. He further notifies her that he will tame her, calling her a wild Kate and placing her under the language of animal domestication. This sets the tone for their relationship through the rest of the book. The way that Petruchio is chasing his love, he looks to tame his wife since she does not truly love him. This is his way of finding love.

In this part of the scene, after the dance, Tony visits Maria at the fire escape secretly. They talk about their night and reaffirm their love for each other. 142679281469.jpg

Tony and Maria let’s each other know the way they feel for each other. During this moment, the jets and sharks had met up and is talking about an upcoming ruble between the two gangs. Not by dance, but by one on one first fights. Maria is then informed by Anita about the rumble and asks Tony to stop them from fighting. Tony says he will. This shows that Tony would do anything for Maria and by stopping this rumble, it would allow both gangs to be safe and benefit Tony and Maria so that no more conflicts between both of their gangs will continue to happen. Tony is chasing after her by doing what she asks of him.

West Side Story’s ending was tragic, as Tony failed chasing after Maria’s love. He ended up dying of the one favor he was asked from Maria. However in Taming of the Shrew, Petruchio was able to get the love he wanted by taming his wife, Katherine. Throughout the movie, Bernardo with his gang, and Tony’s boys, interfered with what Tony and Maria had for each other. It showed the audience that not everyone gets what they want in the end.

Family is everything

Posted by Justin Mack in English 3 · Pahomov · A Band on Monday, January 9, 2017 at 2:01 am

When going into Freshman year, I was really doubtful about how the year is going to go. I hit the middle of November, that is when I was crushed. It was the week before Thanksgiving, I was ready for our annual Macsgiving! Macsgiving is a tradition where we would throw a big party with all of my dad side of the family’s friends at my grandpa’s house. It would be the 3rd year in a row and I was excited to see faces I haven’t seen a whole year! Thanksgiving was one of my favorite holidays as I get to talk to family friends and eat.  l helped my mom put cases of beer and soda into the basement to store until Thanksgiving day. I went upstairs and layed in bed, pulling up my school’s website to start my homework. The phone began to ring as I ignored the christmas ringtone until my mom picked up. “Kids! Get ready we’re going to the hospital to see your grandpa!” My grandfather was in the hospital for at least half a year and it was going to be the first time I’ll see him. I haven’t see him in forever which made me a bit happy and sad.

When we were in the car for awhile, I knew it wasn’t going to be typical Jefferson hospital that we usually always go to. A hospital appeared out of the side window that I wasn’t familiar with. My family and I walked into the ICU and turned through a few hallways to find my uncles and aunt in the room in front of us which of course was the room my grandpa was in. When I walked in it was unbelievable what I saw. My grandpa had so many tubes all around his body, his entire body was filled with fluid to the point where he looked swollen. Like he was stung by 100 wasps. I didn’t even recognize him anymore. From that short old wrinkly man that I loved being around, to the swollen man in the bed that I didn’t recognize.

To see my grandpa, I had to put on an entire suit, gloves, and hand sanitize my hands. I was very uncomfortable. It was so unreal just to see my grandpa that I haven’t seen in so long. What was the point of putting all this on? I’m just visiting, not doing an operation on him. I did those procedures and walked into the room. Just looking at him was going to make me fall to my knees and cry. Everyone was surrounded around him. I was standing in front where his feet was facing me. I touched and rubbed his leg. It was the first time I touched him in forever. It felt fat, like a sausage from a deli. I looked up to see him looking into my eyes. He had no expression. But I knew that he couldn’t make one either way. A flush of warmth flowed up fast through me and I began to have a burning sensation throughout my entire body. I rushed out of the room and I was gagging into a trashcan. I didn’t know if it was the clothes they made me wear that was making me hot and lightheaded, or the thought that I haven’t seen my grandpa in so long to where it hurts to just see him in the condition he was in. After I settled down for a few minutes, I walked back into the room and walked right beside him again. My family and really close friends came by to let him know we’re here for him. I knew what was happening but I kept it in the back of my head.

When I was still at home, my siblings and I were told that he was dying. From all the faces surrounding the room, I knew it was the moment where we we’re gonna let go. To lighten up the mood and the intense emotions in the room, my uncle said, “grandpa smile for grandkids” although it was in cantonese. He smiles showing all of his teeth as if the the dentist told him to open your mouth and bite down. I laughed and smile a bit and started tearing up a bit knowing that’ll be the last time I would ever see him smile. I watched as my aunt, uncles, and my dad stood by his side and held his hand. I walked out of the room with my mom, siblings, and family friends as we gave them their time to see their father for one last time. We walked down to right turns down the hallway right into the patient room. There was drinks and snacks on the table, yet I didn’t touch a single one even though my stomach was empty. I had a blank face for a good 10 minutes as if I was thinking about life in the shower. I couldn't believe it. Happy memories flashed through my head remembering all of the things I did for my grandfather when he needed me. I started over thinking and became angry at myself that I didn’t spend enough time with him when I always came over. I kept those thoughts inside and kept the blank face.

Ding! I looked up at the tv where Steve Harvey was hosting his tv show Family Feud. I watched it, yet I wasn’t paying attention as if it was playing on mute. I heard crying coming through the hallway and looked through the opened door to see my aunt on the ground sobbing. My aunts very close friend was right next to her, holding her hands trying to pull her back up. The only thing I could’ve think of is why. Why did it have to happen now. It was the week of thanksgiving and it was suppose to be the month of being with family and having thankfulness for each other. My heart was beating out of my chest as I kept watching my aunt sob a bucket of tears in the middle of the hallway. I didn’t know what to do as I turned away and look at my brother and sister. There was no expression on either of their faces. Not even my mom or our family friends. My eyes blurred as tears began to build up. It’s been a few minutes of sitting in silence after I hear one of my uncles talk to my aunt in the hallway. “He’s suffering! Just lying there having a machine breath for him. He can’t even talk anymore!” I hear my aunt try to respond, but the tears and sniffing was in full control. I didn’t turn my head out the door because I knew I would cry, unable to control myself. I slouched down into my chair and kept telling myself to stay strong. It’s okay…... be brave justin, grandpa is okay.

“Kids lets go. We’re going home now. “ My mom demanded that we’re going home. “Where’s dad?” My brother asked. “He’ll be home later.” We got up and walked down the hallway in silence. It was the first time I witnessed my entire dad’s side of the family so close and together. I watched as my aunt was still on the floor and my uncle trying to pick her up. My other uncle is facing the wall, leaning on it with his arm up and his head under his arm. My oldest uncle and my dad was still missing as they were still in the room of my grandpa. I turned back around as we exited the building, zipping up my jacket from the wind that tipped my to the right. The car ride was silent the entire time. When we got back home, it was 1 in the morning and I showered right away. The burning hot water hits my head and flows down my body as the entire bathroom begins to turn into a steam room. My mind was blank and I just stood there. When I got out, my dad came back home. My dad walks up the stairs to get ready to shower and we all come into his room and asks when is he going to heal. “He’s dead. We cut the tube, he was suffering. Its 1am, kids, go to sleep.” I walked into my room, slammed my face into my pillow, and cried myself to sleep.

I woke up the next day walking into school with my eyes forcing to shut on themselves. A few of my close friends know what’s up and they were there for me. I handed out a funeral paper to my teachers a few days later letting them know that I’ll miss school to attend my grandpa funeral. Having family and friends is what kept my head up and let me know that everything is okay. I was basically taught that friends and family will always be there for you and you should really cherish what they do for you. My grandpa will live on in me and I’ll always remember him.

Hype in media

Posted by Justin Mack in English 3 · Pahomov · A Band on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 11:29 pm

Walking down the street, or even in school, people are wearing the nicest shoe. Shoes that won’t sit on shelves in stores because they are sold out instantly. The thing people may not understand is that those people may be “sneakerheads” which are people that goes after the shoes that are more hype out in the community. However, they are thrown off by the fact that Companies of shoes hype it up in the media as the fans follows onto that.

Public obsession with the latest trends means that The shoes themselves have changed drastically. Nowadays, it is about the materials that are being used in the sneaker as well as the looks. Materials like high quality leather, good stitching, as well as good cushioning would bump up the price of the shoe. For an example, the Jordan 11 Concords. As it started off as a basketball sneaker, the shoe began to make its pricy statement with the materials like patent leather, leather, mesh, and a tint of carbon fiber. The shoe is seventy five percent leather which makes the retail price two hundred and twenty. Quality would make shoes way more high in demand which is why people are trying to get their hands on them. It is put onto social media for people to see and follow.

From Konbini which is a sneaker website, In 2015, The NPD Group calculated an 8% year-over-year growth for the largely millennial-driven sneaker market, to $17.2 billion in total annual sales. When celebrities wear them before official release, the hype gets up there from social media which would bump the hype of the shoe. People like Drake and Kanye have collaborations with brands that would make the shoe hyped up. Kanye went a step further and started his shoe line with Adidas. His shoes, Yeezy, cost around two hundred and twenty dollars. It is very limited wear people start to camp out for the sneakers for hours. It is hyped up where people would spend extra hundreds of dollars to buy it off someone. Social Media is a place where people get their information on a shoe release which attracts people onto the shoe.

Brands like to created exclusivity shoes that gets people hopping onto the hype train. When a brand like Adidas creates a shoe that is only five hundred pairs made, it would make people go crazy. People will see it all over the media. Minds will be focused on getting that pair because of how limited they are. Shoes that are limited are more rarer in the sneaker community which would make people go crazy for them. The more limited they are, the higher it is for those shoes to be worth. An example would be the Jordan 4 x Undefeated. It is a collaboration with the apparel line Undefeated. This particular shoe has less than 80 pairs made. As it is known for being a Jordan shoe and being limited to less than 80 pairs, the cost for these shoes are above ten thousand dollars.

Although the sneaker culture only involves people who are into sneakers, it should concern everyone who wears a pair. Shoe brands will soon jump onto the hype and create better quality shoe, which will make prices rise for the average consumer as well. In the sneaker game, there will always be a buyer and a reseller. It is what keeps the cycle going in the sneaker community. And although many people may or may not support the sneaker culture, the prices of what they need will be influenced whether they like it or not.

Aniya’s childhood book that she loves is the Junie B. Jones series. She thinks they’re really funny and she can relate a lot of the books to her personal life. Her least favorite book is the Harry Potter series and is definitely not a fan. She personally thinks it’s too long and it gets less interesting when she reads it. If Aniya can meet anyone in a book it would be Vanessa from Kidnapping By The Enemy. She says that they are completely the same. They’re both goofy at times but can also be serious. She says they can get along very well.

My experience so far has been pretty well. I work with kindergartners as a teachers assistant. It is a cool opportunity to meet new kids, and being able to help them read and write. I also help out in the main office, bringing mail to different teacher's mailbox, and creating a bond between others. It's been a great experience so far and hope to finish the rest of the year well.

Support The Freeman! - Justin Mack

Posted by Justin Mack in African American History - Jonas - A on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 10:46 pm
Artist Statement:
African Americans can have a better effect in their lives as well as the era they were living in. When the African Americans have been given 40 acres and a mule, they were able to grow crops. They had soon made a system called the Sharecropping system. It allowed the African Americans to rent some more plot in exchanged for some crops that they grew for the landowners. This has helped the African Americans as well as the landowners. What else may not be clear was the education they were getting and how this relates. If the African Americans were making enough money, they would be able to support themselves and their kids with education. In Georgia, they demanded education once they became free and it shows dedication on how much they want to learn. This means something to our learning of African American history as a whole because it is showing some ways on how African Americans were able to get an education and their start of learning. It also shows how some Africans have started their lives as a free man or woman by the 40 acres and a mule. Also, most people learn the segregation of black kids going to school but not how they were even able to get to a school. In my flyer, it shows about one place on how they demanded for education for themselves and their kids as well.

Q3 Art Reflection

Posted by Justin Mack in Art - Freshman - Hull - y2 on Friday, April 10, 2015 at 11:12 am
I felt liked I accomplished a lot. I used my time wisely in class and got most of my project done. What i would change about the project would be to add more details like the pictures on the wall. I wasn't able to get details done but was able to get the basics like the ceiling, floor, and the two walls. Isaiah's drawing was really successful. His orthagonals made his drawing look neat, clear, and perfect which made it so successful. What I learned bout one point perspective was that you need ti be able to have orthagonals to make your drawing look as close as possible to perfect.

Justin's slide #2

Posted by Justin Mack in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - y1 on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 8:51 pm
Tech Slide
What I learned was making something more simpler. My last slide had so much color and the background was shoes with all sorts of colors. I think that the new slide I made represents the one true thing about me. That the organization I play for is what my whole life is about, supporting my second family through sports and events. I made the quote we use to each other in black and white because white on black is simple. I put the picture with the four corners as if the background was fading into the picture. I think that it makes the background bleed through the pictures which in my opinion is a cool tool to use. I used the same font for each word in the picture because each word means something.

Justin's Net Neutrality Blog

Posted by Justin Mack in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - y1 on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 11:43 am
Untitled presentation
I think that net neutrality is very important for teenagers. One way net neutrality will help you is when you are in need to watch a movie in school. If the teacher tries to watch a movie in class to teach you and the movie is blocked doesn't allow access, then it could stop your learning. I think that this is unfair to happen because some kids doesn't want to hear lectures all the time. Movies that help you learn gives you a break from lectures and when the movie isn't working, then the kids may hear more lectures.

Net neutrality helps students with homework. Like in this school, we have computers. Most homework is assigned online. If a certain website isn't allowed to be access then the student will have trouble with problems. The school may not have enough money to get the websites to be accessed. This could be a real problem to students learning through the internet.

Net neutrality can help teenagers with their learning. When students are researching in class, the internet could be a problem. The internet could become slower if the school isn't paying their provider enough money for faster internet. That makes the students education slow as well. This can cause slow learning for student who are learning through the internet.

Jmack's Slide

Posted by Justin Mack in Technology- Freshmen - Hull - y1 on Monday, November 24, 2014 at 11:38 am

I made my slide this way to show that right away you’ll see the three general things that are really important in my life. I didn't want my slide to have so many words or pictures because it’ll make the slide look too messy. My slide has a pretty colorful background with shoes bleeding off the screen so it looks bigger. I chose this background because it shows others how much I love shoes and gives a very strong image of colors to catch the reader’s eyes. I named my slide Justin’s World because there are the three main things that goes on in my life which is basketball, video games, and social media. I made the font big and the color bright so that it would catch the person’s eye. I put a picture of my basketball team and the organization I play for because it shows how dedicated I am to the organization. I made the social media and video game picture transparent because I am not getting as interested into those two things as much anymore. I think that my slide was a good start.

Home Network, Mack

1. My devices that are connected to the internet is 3 iphones, 3 ipads, 3 ipods, a playstation 3, 3 laptops, and a printer. The internet provider is Comcast and the internet cable comes through my parent's room on the second floor to a coax cable that connects to a modem. I then have a wireless router.

2.I learned that the router doesn't have to be connected to the modem. I also learned that it takes a lot of wires to connect to the internet than it looks like.

3.I would tell other people that when you are ready to have internet, make sure you have a good spot to put all the wires at because you would want  place where you could have wifi connection from everywhere in your house.
