    Hi, my name is Chris Tran. Today I’m going to talk to you about my capstone that I have been working on over the past few months of the school year. A capstone is a graduation project that can be on any topic of your choice. I decided to choose something that I have been passionate about and that was to fundraise and donate money to Doctors Without Borders to specifically provide them money to help them on their mission of aiding the world. Also another reason why I donated to Doctors Without Borders because they were accepting donations to provide care for those who are ill with Ebola. I believed that all I could do is do my best to fundraise a specific amount of money to help them with their mission. I also dream that someday I could have an opportunity to do a fundraiser by myself. The process that I took to complete this project is really easy at times, but it can be difficult. The easy part is to make a website that provides the people on the web information about Ebola. I used information composed by research and compiled them into a website. Then I went out and went store-to-store asking for donations to support my capstone. When I ask them for donations, I give them a card that has all of my information as well as a link to my website. I ask them to read it and spread the information that they have learned about Ebola to people that they know. At times asking for donations is difficult because they aren’t as open to donating, but I later learned that there is a technique to talking to others and I used that to my advantage.

What I set out to do is to tell a story of a student who was messed up in all kinds of way changed after 4 years of SLA. It is a success story. 


How did you accomplish this goal?

I told a story of me being able to push through and become successful.

What do you hope your audience gains for viewing/listening your piece?

I hope the audience would gain an understanding of how effort and determination and of course SLA could change a person.

​Fried Rice: (Brown rice alternative)

Ingredients:


  • 2 cups of brown rice

  • 1 cup of mixed vegetables

  • 1 cup of ham or any kind of meat

  • Salt

  • 2 Garlic

  • 2 Red onions

  • Pinch of Vegetable Oil


Recipe:


  1. Gather all of the ingredients needed, prepare a small frying pan and add a pinch of vegetable oil.

  2. Chop the garlic and onions into small pieces.

  3. Prepare the ham or any kind of meat wanted with rice.

  4. When the pan is hot add the chopped onion and garlic. Fry until it is the color of gold.

  5. Then add the rice into the frying pan and stir fry the rice, onion, and garlic for about 5 minutes. Add ⅙ teaspoon of salt and continue to stir fry for another couple of minutes.

  6. Add 1 cup of meat into the frying pan and stir fry for about 2 to 3 minutes.

  7. Then add 1 cup of mixed vegetables and stir fry for about 2 to 3 minutes

  8. Then decorate your plate with the rice and enjoy!


Analysis:


My version of a healthy fried rice is mostly whole food. About 90% of my fried rice’s ingredients are whole foods and only 10% processed. For my fried rice the total calorie is about 250 calories. The sugar content is pretty low at 10 g in total, the sodium is 25 mg., total carbohydrates is 27 mg., and protein is 4g. Well based on my research my meal doesn’t take long to digest because it is only 270 calories all you need to do after you eat is to exercise and you can work it off. Based on personal experience, I have lost 20 pounds due to this recipe. Well for the sugar, proteins, and carbs, they are something that our body needs to do simple things everyday and they can also help our bones and our body become stronger or slimmer. Well some of the health issues that can rise from this would be nothing because rice is something that my culture has ate for almost 2,000 years and nothing happened to our health. It would just improve our health a lot more than it would hurt.

Well most of my foods are from the U.S, but the brown rice is from China. The food that travelled the furthest would be the brown rice. This rice would have to be organically grown because this brown rice is filled with nutrients that no processed food have. Well since none of my foods are processed. I would have to say that processed foods can cause pollutions due to the factories creating it creates pollution and the processed foods can also create cancer or can cause diabetes.

In total, the cost of the meal was $20.79. All of our food choices were from fresh ingredients and where much more wholesome than a fast food restaurant. That being said, it was more expensive to prep and buy all of this food in comparison to fast food. Most of our food ingredients are regulated by the FDA and USDA to ensure that our Chicken doesn’t have salmonella and that our vegetables aren’t covered in herbicides. The majority of the people who made money off of the food we purchased will benefit the farmers who grew the crops and chickens. The biggest corporation that will make the most money off of our ingredients is the infamous Monsanto. They have dominated the market have a monopoly in their favor.

There are no social ramifications of my meal choice, but there are some controversy involving the import of rice from China to the U.S. The trace for rice would be that it was grown in a field in China or any warm climate environment and was picked and packed and sent to the U.S. Now for the rest of the ingredients they are all from the U.S. Also the side dish most of the ingredients are common things that we eat. These items are purchased at a local chinese supermarket. They are healthy, organic, and convenient. The organic rice are grown in fields and takes months to grow compare to factory rice. They grow it chemically and then picked and processed. Then for the herbs its the same process. They grow it organically and for companies they grow it chemically and picked it and processed it. Now for the vegetable oil they just make it by factory, its possible but you would have to dry the plants or veggies and then get the oil out of them.


Personal Analysis:


Chris: Looking back into this unit, I think my role in the larger food system is that I contribute to the fast food business and contribute to the growth in obesity in this country. I think I should turn to a more healthy diet after this unit and continue to work out everyday to contribute to the growth of a healthier America. I think the biggest problem with our food system is that we add too much carbs and sugar into our food. It is hurting people and causing diabetes and heart diseases. Another problem would be that fast food has artificial meat which hurts Americans and everybody else because we are not taking in the healthy, real, natural meat that is needed in the human body. Some of the changes that I can make with my food choices is to choose more healthy food and to cook more instead of eating out. The impact of these changes would be losing weight and living a healthy life. Yes, I am willing to make these changes because this is something that I need to be healthy.  I feel like after watching the TED talk that Jamie Oliver did I wanted to quit fat food and move on to the more healthy alternative.

Johan Santana Segunda Oportunidad


Este artículo se trata del lanzador llamada Johan Santana. Él era un lanzador bueno en MLB pero dos operación por en el hombro izquierda. Él nunca lanza un pelotazo porque de dos operación. Ahora sin un trabajo, él tenía encontrar un trabajo antes de la temporada de béisbol o él es nunca lanza un pelotazo en un juega otra vez. Pero cuatro días hace, Johan Santana firmó un contrato con los Orioles a lanza por el equipo pero en el entrenamiento de primavera él tenía a lanzar bueno a guarda un trabajo con los Orioles. Yo pienso Johan Santana con dos operación va a lanzar bueno esta temporada porque él es un lanzador bueno y todos los lanzador con dos operación lanza bueno la temporada después.  El vocabulario que yo aprendí en el artículo es hombro. Este artículo se trata de la defensiva de Seattle en el Super bowl. Él juega de fútbol americano pero dos semanas pasadas, él era proyecto por jugar béisbol por el equipo de Los Texas Rangers. Este artículo se trata de un jugador llamada Roy Halladay. Roy Halladay es un jugador por los Blue Jays y los Fillies.Después 16 años de jugó béisbol, él anunció sus retiró con sus equipo de primero, los Blue Jays. Él es mejor en pitching. Él jugó bien en sus 16 años de béisbol. Pero el año pasado, Halladay era herido. Ahora Roy Halladay quiere un lugar en el hall of fame. Este artículo se trata de el equipo de los filadelfia Eagles. En la semana pasada, en filadelfia los eagles impuso contra los lions en un épico en la nieve. En este juego, un jugador llamada Nick Foles era jugar el juego bien con 179 yarda y LeSean McCoy un jugador bien corrío por 217 yardas. Hizo el registro por el mejor yardas corr en un juego. Los Eagles, ahora con un registro 8-5 van a jugar con los Vikings a hizo el registro 9-5 van a playoffs. Los Eagles con Nick Foles tenían jugaron bien. Ahora con el playoffs en la imagen por los Eagles. Ellos pueden hacer historia con un temporada ganadora. Yo pienso los Eagles pueden jugaron bueno y impuso el superbowl. Este artículo se trata de un jugador de baloncesto llamada Dwight Howard. Dwight Howard jugo por el equipo de Los Rockets. Un equipo va a el play-offs, yo pienso Dwight Howard es un jugador este ayuda Los Rockets a el play-offs. Pero en este artículo Dwight Howard era multado por que él lanzó un baloncesto en la multitud. Esta acción hizo él pagó 25 mil dolares a NBA. Pero él tenía 33 puntos y 11 rebotes. Howard hizo este falta hizo Los Mavericks acercar dos puntos y hizo marcado 116-112. Los Mavericks impuso el juego con el marcado de 123-120. Yo pienso Howard no tenía derechos a lanzó un baloncesto en la multitud. English Q1 BM: Book Review for The Golden Compass

The author of this splendid book is Philip Pullman. He is an excellent author who won awards for his series trilogy of “His Dark Materials”. He was born in the town of Norwich, England in 1946. He taught english at Oxford Middle Schools for a while until he went on to teach at Westminster College. He tries to write stories that can grab readers attention, but most of his reader are pre-teen and teen. Philip Pullman also wrote other fantastic stories like book 2 and 3 of his trilogy of His Dark Material, Puss in Boots, The Broken Bridge, and The Butterfly Tattoo. The book that I’m doing this book review on is his first book from his award winning series. The Golden Compass is a book that takes you back to the era similar to the Victorian Era that occurred in England; an era where the church rules everything and there are scholars and students who attend Universities. Lyra, a young girl who lives in the university with her daemon, Pantalaimon, likes to lurk around the university and nearby towns. One day, her uncle, an important man, has came to the university to talk to the headmaster and other scholars about a discovery that he had uncovered in this journey in the great North. Then Lyra saved her uncle from being killed by an attempted assassination. Saving her uncle was just the beginning of the chains of many tortuous and dangerous events that Lyra will experience later in the book.  She went through many hardships during some events and also found herself in danger. Events like getting abducted by a lady that commits hideous acts, traveling to the great north with Egyptians to save children from being severed, or risking her life to save her friend’s life. During this grand journey, Lyra has found her talent and unique qualities, qualities that she would soon use to unlock key information that relates to the rescue of these children. Lyra, who is intelligent, brave, and adventurous, has gone through a journey that will change and influenced her life.  



The structure of this book is like any other book, the story has an uphill part which leads to the climax, and then the downhill. The Golden Compass did a great job of grabbing the readers attention on the very first page. Throughout the book, the author used lots of figurative language and adjectives that gives off lots of imagery, which grabs readers attention and makes books more interesting to read. The type of speech that he included in this book caught my attention as well. The speech matches the context of the story and its plot. Since this book has a setting similar to the Victorian Era, the author has carefully set this type of language back into the story to help the readers be aware of the time period that the setting is in. The idea that this book explored was the idea of mixing the Victorian Era and its complex language with a genre like science fiction. This kind of mixture for an idea of book is difficult. Something that happened in the past is really difficult to mix with the idea of futuristic and fantasy ideas (just thinking about it is impossible) but somehow this book had succeed on something that I  assumed to be impossible. This book includes description of the past, but adds futuristic things in its context. For example, a city in the aurora borealis is an example of science fiction that exist in this book. Philip Pullman did a fantastic job writing this book because he has fused two different kinds of genre into one book that’s enjoyable to pre-teens and teens.

The areas in the book where expectations were exceeded was how descriptive it is. While writing this book, the author did a stupendous job being descriptive with all of the action that is occurring in the book. One example was the in the beginning, when Lyra and Pantalaimon was sneaking around the Master’s meeting room. He gave us a very illustrative description that makes us have the feeling of actually being there with Lyra sneaking in the room with her. Other than being descriptive, the book exceeds my expectations by not making the introduction into the setting of the story long. In other books that I have read they took time describing the world that the story takes place. Meanwhile, this book provides us with little context of where the setting of the story is, and instead went straight into the rich details of the action that occurred in the book. The part in the book that fell short of my expectations is at the very end. At the end of the book they left us with a question that I felt remained unanswered. This question I think is not going to be answered until the second book. This question is about the relationship between Lord Asriel (Lyra’s “uncle”) and Miss Coulter (random woman).  The author made a mistake of not being descriptive enough when explaining about the relationship of Lord Asriel and Miss Coulter. There has to be something important about their relationship that Philip Pullman did not describe enough to let me understand why that would lead to the event in the story. The age groups that I think would love this book are kids ages 11-16 because kids at this age would like to read something that is fantasized into a world where there is danger because they love books that have danger, suspense and drama. The reason why older adults wouldn’t like this book is because this illustrates fantasized characters that exists in books for little kids. Characters like witches and talking animals are considered to be little kids favorite characters. But Philip Pullman does such a superb job in coordinating these fantasized characters into a book where it is enjoyed by pre-teen and teenage kids.

La noche ayer era el juego final por Mariano Rivera con sus carrera con Los Yankees. Nadal Impuso de U.S Open



El artículo es sobre una competición de tenis. El juego es una competición entre Rafael Nadal y Novak Djokovic. Los dos son muy competitivo, pero Nadal impuso la competición. Nadal, quien impuso mucho competición de tenis, no tuvo impuso una competición por tres años. Entonces Nadal practicó mucho por esta competición. El impuso dijo el mundo esté Rafael Nadal impuso competiciones si usted practicó mucho. Djokovic estaba triste porque el perdió la competición. Pero Djokovic dijo está el va a impuso el año próximo. Yo use este artículo porque tenis es un deporte excelente y también los dos jugadores tuvieron excelente personalidades. Los dos juegan bueno por el impuso. Las conexiones entre el artículo y mi vida es que los dos Nadal y yo trabajamos duro en practicando deporte. Los dos béisbol y tenis son deportes que tienes que mucho practicar. In this journal we have to choose one part of a scene in the play of Othello and make director’s edits. These edits gives you the freedom of making the script in any tone of voice that you choose. The target that I was focusing on, during this edit of the line by Iago is the audience. The reason why I target the audience was because I want the audience to experience the amount of anger and hatred that Iago has for Othello.  Here is the reason, why I put a period, is because I want to add a short break to make it more dramatic. In this first line I added a period because I want to add movement during the short break of each lines.The second line added another short break in between the lines so that the characters can have a breath between words and lines. This gives the character a chance to walk around the stage to make this scene more dramatic. So,it would make Iago sound serious. Exclamation points helps the line and the character sound serious, because without it, it would sound plain and the audience wouldn’t know what the expression the character is expressing. During this serious situation, the character’s posture has to be straightforward. Some serious monologues have occasional scenes where the characters express what they are saying by their unique postures and hand gestures. Different movements throughout the breaks between lines helps the audience have the full experience of the emotions of each character. That’s why in this short director’s choice, I choose to add two or more breaks in between these lines.


Benchmark prompt 2:


A couple of important scenes that Rodrigo appeared in:

- When Iago and Roderigo plans to get Othello caught being with Desdemona. (Act one,scene one)

- When Rodrigo was stopping Cassio from getting out of control and got into a fight. (act two,scene three)

- When Roderigo and Iago plans to ambush Cassio. (act 5,scene 1-2)

- When Roderigo got killed and betrayed by Iago. ( act 5, scene 1-2)

In this play, Rodrigo has experience with tons of moments of betrayal. For example on act 5 scene 1-2 he was very collaborative. During that scene he followed the detailed plan that Iago has settled out and went to take his position. The way I see it he is more betrayed than collaborating, because he wasn't there for one large portion of the story. For the part that he was out the plan still carried on only he used other victims like Othello to cooperate with him and help him succeed with his plan.

Well what Rodrigo observed second handed is the plans that Iago has settled out to get revenge on Othello. During the whole book there was no part in the story that showed us that Rodrigo was the leadership type, he was mostly the follower.


Well one way we can understand the character's motivations better is that when you focus on one small part ,you can carefully analyze the character's thoughts and feelings. Their statuses in society can also be an influence of how their future can be in real life or in stories. We can also understand how the character's expressions and actions can affect them in the future.



Benchmark prompt 3:

When he was young, Brabantio have a lot of affections from his parents. When he grew up and got married, he loved his wife just like his parents had taught him. His favorite past time when he was small, until now recently, he loved to go fishing at the creek near his old house. He loves to catch the fishes and release them because he believes that those fishes will soon reproduce to have more offsprings. His affections toward nature was carried in his blood forever. When he had a daughter, he swore that someday he would do anything to protect his baby girl. That love that he had for the nature, influences him to make that promise. On a stormy day, his daughter felt scared when he was there to hug her and comfort her until the storm was over. By the time he was well-known and became a senator. He took his time to write memoirs about his life and how he and his daughter had claimed the world by storm. They are never to be separated no matter what. Thats the type of person that Brabantio is, he is a loving person.

In this journal I wrote about my performance and how my group plans to make our performance stand out. Some of the specific actions,movements,and tone of voice that I have to bring during the performance are some unique emotions because since I play a role of a dad who is losing a daughter to someone I don’t want her to marry I have to sound sad and sometimes I have to be mad and angry. Brabantio has came a long way to lose his daughter like that so he has to act this way. Other movements that I have to bring into the performance is the way I talk to Nomi, who is acting as Desdemona. I have to gesture her over to my side just like any father would command his daughter. There will be two props that I will use throughout the play.One prop is a lantern or a flashlight and another is a cane because Brabantio is an old man so I think he must have a cane. The thing that will make my group’s performance stand out is that we are going to have suspense and action. There is also lots of movements in the scene instead of just standing there and looking into the crowd or audience. Well one thing that both groups of mine agreed to is that we have to have more movement in the stage to make the performance be more eloquent.

“I pray you,hear her speak: If she confess that she was half the wooer,destruction on my head,if my bad blame light on the man! Come hither, gentle mistress: do you perceive in all this noble company where most you owe obedience?”


This quote was one of the 8 lines that Brabantio had in this play. This quote in my point of view is the most important line that Brabantio had said throughout the play. This quote states that Brabantio can’t believe the event that occur to him. He wants to hear the full story to see if Desdemona really married herself to Othello without his permission.Then he said that, if its true then he would not accept it. He would blame Othello for everything that happen. Therefore, he needs to call upon  Desdemona and ask her if she truly love the man. This quote is really important to the story because it shows the fact that Brabantio is too mindful of Othello’s race. He doesn’t want her to marry a Moor. I think he expects her to marry someone that is noble and of an appropriate race. During the play,  I was trying to act like I’m not accepting this marriage. I was acting like a strict parent who disapprove everything that the child is doing. I was trying to put the situation under my control and articulate my thoughts out clearly as possible. I delivered this in a serious sad tone because of the fact that he is getting his daughter taken away from him is sad and also he wants to get this situation straightened out so he has to be serious as well.

Well yes the performance went really well. Both groups that I was in proved that they placed their best foot forward and performed their best. The way I planned it was just exactly like the actual effort and outcome of the performance. Well what I’m most proud of is that both groups’ scenes were really intense because of the way we planned was really well-planned and executed. Then also the point of that I memorized all of my lines are one of the things that I was proud of.  What I could have done differently in my performance is the costume. Most of the groups has costumes and I really don’t have anything. If I could have a chance to do the performance again. I would definitely bring a costume. After performing the play, this play has changed my whole understanding of the Shakespearean text. I learned that I can always act the part out if I really don’t understand it. Also the performance influence me to not be shy anymore and be more expressive more.


Financial Boundaries

This man, my father, Tony Tran at the age of 48 now have went through every struggle that involves with having problems with his finances.

Reflection:

During this project what I learned was that most people, they don’t all of a sudden have good finances. What I learned was that you have to figure it out yourself and if you need help then call somebody to help you with your situation. During this process I learned more about editing audio using something other than garageband. Also I have learned to strengthen my weakness of interviewing people because sometimes I can be really shy when I have to record myself interviewing somebody. What I have discovered from my dad was that he was alone at the times of his struggles. I always thought he had someone by his side helping him solve his problems, but instead they avoid helping him and left him to solve it for himself.


Well when it comes to crossing boundaries I have learned a little bit of what it means, when I was interviewing my father. I think the meaning of crossing boundaries is to take the problem and solve it, but not solve it and then learn nothing from it. You have to learn something during the process of crossing a boundary. Also during this interview I get to learn the other side of my father, the side where I never get to see before. The side where he is actually alone all of his life for everything, even to the part he got married and started his own family. Well last but not least my strengths for this project was starting a conversation. If the interview doesn’t have a conversation it wouldn’t be an interview. My weakness is that I have trouble making good questions. I think during the time where I was creating the questions to ask I didn’t have enough inspiration to create great question. The next project with an interview I should take my time brainstorming good questions to ask my interviewee.

Mixed Ngon Ngu

“Hey”, Phu said.
“Hi”, I replied.
“You co lam homework trua?”, I ask.
“ Co chu sao ma cong co.”, Phu answered.
“ May cong co lam di you’re in big trouble.”, I replied back.
“ Toi biet roi.”, He replied.

Another friend walked up to me and ask me, “Yo did we have any homework last night”? At first I thought he was my other friend Thanh who was also Vietnamese. So I told him, “Cong, Cong we don’t have homework.”

My friend Michael started laughing and ask me, “What did you just say”?

As I felt embarrassed I told him again but this time in english, “No we don’t have homework last night”.  Thats the moment where I realize the I have been mixing the two languages a lot. Right there at that moment I made a promise myself that this will never happen again,but sooner or later it happened again.

My whole life was ruined because I kept mixing my native language Vietnamese with my secondary language English. I am use to speaking one language so much when I get to school I tend to mix these two languages together without noticing. Ever since I learned english when I was 6 years old. I started having this habit of mixing 2 languages. Having a knowledge for both languages confused me. Learning english is the most complicated process of my life. Taking ESOL classes (English for Speakers of Other Languages) doesn’t help at all. The stuff I learn in ESOL and English class makes me even more confusing. Then at the same time learning one language is hard enough. I have to use another one at home. The constant mixing and switching of languages from school and home left a permit mark on me. The permanent mark that was left on me was memories of laughter and frustration.

Then one day I was working with my mom in her nail shop. A customer came by and ask, “Does your mom have time to do my nails today?”.

I replied, “No my mom has no time to do it for you today, xin loi.”

As I realized what I have said I heard her ask me, “Excuse me, what did you just say?”

At that moment I thought she was going to laugh at me for what I have just said, but I answered her anyway. “I was trying to tell you that my mom does not have time to do nails for you today I’m sorry.”

“Oh well thats interesting. What language do you speak? What is your native language?”.

“Well I speak Vietnamese at home.”

“Oh thats cool I have a friend who speaks Vietnamese and I think its an interesting language to speak.”

As I heard that I felt as though my language does mean something to her. It gives me strength to be not feel embarrassed, but also to feel proud that I speak a language that some people find it interesting.

I can imagine myself in the future speaking in mixed languages more, instead of just avoiding it in all because speaking in mixed languages makes me who I am and thats what makes me special. Speaking in a mixed language can also helps me understand things that I learn in school. It makes it more simple to me to understand. It could make me forget the permit mark that was left on me long ago and move on improving myself. Now I can just close my eyes and see myself using my abilities of speaking mixed languages to communicate with my friend Phu more.

Now, because of that one moment in the past has affected my future with my languages. The girl from the story “ Tongue Tied” by Maxine Hong Kingston hates speaking out loud and has been laughed at before. She thinks her accent is making her different. In the first part of the story she has told us about the story of the knot-marker. She said that the knot-marker after a while in China has been outlawed. Then she stated, “ If I lived in China, I would have been an outlaw knot-marker”. She was trying to compare her accent to the knot-marker. She is trying to tell us that if the knot-marker was outlawed in China. Then here in America her accent is breaking the rules of the way you speak as well. She is trying to show us that she is not proud of her accent. During the time that I had trouble with two languages. I wasn’t proud of myself either. I tried hard to change to fit in, but the changing doesn’t work as well. I still continue to mix the languages and suffer the laughter from my peers. She made another statement about her accent later in the story. She stated that, “ The teacher, who had already told me everyday how to read “I and here”, put me in the low corner under the stairs again,where the noisy boys sat.” Now her mind set is giving up on perfecting her accent. Even the people she know, her teacher has paid her no attention at all and decided to ignore her. Thats why the girl in this story hated her accent.

In my case the laughter and torture to change my accent and my mixed language has made me think that I want to improve and speak it more. My story about the mixed language and the girls’ from “Tongue Tied” has the same situations but different results or change. I went from being laughed at to speaking more and being inspired to learn more about both languages. Instead of just abandoning them. Meanwhile the girl from the story is on the verge of probably giving up. Some people just give up while others take their time to realize that their accent or language is something that they can never let go. It make them who they are and symbolizes the unique traits that the person have. For me I have kept that unique thing and I am trying to improve as well. I decided to keep it because I have spent some time learning new things from both languages while I was making my decision and the influence that these two languages brought affect my thoughts and my decision. The fact that I can speak more than two languages makes me an interesting person to most people, but then to others they think I’m a topic for their jokes. Even though I had a complicated time fixing the habit of speaking and mixing both languages. The fact that knowing them and learning them makes the pain go away. Theses languages and their culture makes me who I am today.

My Motivation

As I was sitting in the library on a gloomy afternoon. I wrote in my journal, “I hate myself”. I was staring at the window looking outside. At the same time I was thinking about the girl that I really like. She is in my class and her name is Samantha. Yeah I got to admit she is pretty cute and beautiful. It doesn’t matter if she is popular or not, I still like her no matter how she is. I smiled at the image of her that I have in my head, but soon the smile became a frown because of the thought of folding to her in front of my friends. I was facing a life of laughter because I keep avoiding her after promising and texting her tell her to meet me after school. I avoided her because I was nervous I had butterflies in my stomach and then that feeling took me over and I have to avoid her. But she agreed to meet me and I ditched her because of my nervousness trait. In my mind I always remember the words face your fears, but I can’t face my own. I shook my head as I have that flashback to the scene. I shook my head as I have remembered what have triggered this nervous shock that cause me to be nervous whenever I talk to girls. It was in 2006 as I was a young boy. I really liked this girl in my class. Then one day I went and talk to her and she rejected me. From that moment on I felt unsure when I was talking to a girl. I always have that thought that she doesn’t like me. After the flashback I looked up at the clock and I found out that I have been sitting here for about an hour now and so far I can’t study at all. I have been slacking off a lot because I keep thinking about Samantha. She is always in my mind. Well since I was slacking off I picked up my phone and check to see if I had any messages.


The words “No messages” pops up on my phone. Well I guess nobody, none of my friends are going to text me a sign of motivation. Just as I put away my phone in my pocket. I felt my phone vibrated like crazy, like its yelling at my to pick it up. I picked up my phone and saw the display of the words “ 1 Message” on my phone. Now the dampen feeling that I had before has now brightening because of the text that I just receive.With anxiety I press the button on my phone that will lead me to the text of motivation that I have been dreading for minutes. When I saw the message the read it quickly, reading word for word. Quickly I discovered what the message said. It said “ Hey Jack I know you were stuck and folded to Samantha. Don’t even bother talking to me anymore if you don’t get this figured out.” I remembered that time when my friend Ralph was telling a girl name Matilda to meet him after school. I stood there waiting for the bus and I saw her standing there waiting in the freezing weather for Ralph. As 15 minutes went by I knew then that he wasn’t coming. I know my friend Ralph ever since we met in 5th grade he was a jerk then and now. I guess people never change over a series of time. Now as I was reading this text I was reading with a smile on my face and now that smile has turn into tears of frustration.


I was crying to the thought that everyone was on my side at first, but why do they have to turn their backs on me? Why does it all change after I folded to Samantha? The thoughts of killing myself and hurting myself start coming in. I had a thought of killing myself. I thought to myself, why do I have to live in a world where everyone betrays you. Then the reason why I can’t hurt myself is because my religion influences me not to hurt myself. My Catholic religion taught me to appreciate life and don’t do anything to hurt yourself. Well now because of that reason anger started filling in the spots of my heart where it was broken because of the constant mocking of laughter. Then I started having difficulty with breathing. “ I can’t breathe. I have to do something about this.” Then I knew what to do. I have to run down to the river down the street. I walked slowly because of the difficulty of breathing, but then I started running. I can’t take it anymore I need fresh air. I ran out of the door and I realized that it was dark outside, but that didn’t stop me. I run down to the river with the goal of breathing was completed. I breathe really hard and now I looked at the water flowing peacefully. The sound of the water sooth me and made me calm down for a moment. I stood looking at the water and I realized that there is nothing to be upset about. I realized that me, myself can find peace and happiness. Then I thought of my family. My family carry me through no matter what happens. I realized that family and my effort is a formula to happiness and I think thats a good motivation for me. I started walking back to the library. “ Its time to study”. “Its time to study”.

Communists In Vietnam: Post for Change

   The things that are done currently to raise awareness to my topic is a petition posted the official website of the White House. They put up a petition asking President Obama to help them find a solution to this problem. So far they have 150,000 signatures. There is also a video on YouTube that shows one of Viet Khang’s song asking the people who are watching the video to donate money. To an organization that is set up to help Viet Khang get out of jail. There is also a movement called the Viet Khang Movement. This movement is a organizations that matters in global, political, human rights,religious freedom and social equality. This group so far has set up two events. These two events are meetings where hundreds of Viet-American delegates come to protest against the administration and also to deliver their petition to the administration. The second event is about to present their concerns over the problem of human rights violation and also press release of Viet Khang and other prisoners that are put into jail for expressing their opinion.

   ​What should change about Vietnam is that the government should give the people democracy. They should give the citizens freedom in what they want to do or not to do, instead of letting the country crumble because the citizens and the government won’t cooperate. Also the citizens will continue to protest and go against the government's decision for the country. The ways I’m proposing for change is that I’m going to make a petition to sent to President Obama stating that he should send help over to Vietnam to help those prisoners get their freedom and go back to their family. The petition will also propose to the President that he should help Vietnam turn into a democratic country. This petition sends a good explanation of why he should help the country turn into a democratic country.  To give the people a chance to choose who they want to run for president or to choose the option of whenever or not the country should sell themselves to China or not. Communism in Vietnam Blog #2

   Since the last post what I have found is so surprising I can’t describe it in words. The information that I found was about people protesting about communist rulers in Vietnam is selling the country over to China. These protests in peace.Some of them protest communism by writing songs expressing their feelings. One out of the many songwriters this person’s name is Việt Khang, his real name is Võ Minh Trí has been locked up because two of the few songs that he wrote was talking against both the Vietnamese and Chinese government.

  The songs are called “Anh la ai” ( “Who are you”) and “Vietnam Toi Dau” are both songs that have a strong message to the world, even though the Vietnamese Community wasn’t paying attention at the time. Soon the community found out about his capture and decided to take action. Now Vietnam has three problems, one is about the Catholic church being taken over by the communists rulers, two about the communists ruler selling Vietnam to China, and the final one is about Việt Khang’s capture. During the research I have came up with several questions. What can the citizens of Vietnam do now?

   Is the communist going too far with their plan? If the communist sell Vietnam to China, what would happen to the citizens of Vietnam? What would happen to their lives? What terrible events would occur after this exchange?

   Well now I’m well aware of what the people of Vietnam are going through and I understand that there has to be something that I can do to change it. My personal opinion about this topic is that the communism’s power over the people is expanding. I think they have gone too far about not letting their citizen have the freedom to express their feelings towards that problem.  I still wonder if I can do something about it. To help the people over there who are in search of democracy instead of communism. My plan is to go out and talk to people and inspire them to help the citizens over in Vietnam, but in the third blog post I will talk more about my plan of change.

Communism Controlling Freedom in Vietnam

      In English class, we are doing a project called “You and the World”. In this project we have to choose a subject that we want to research about. For example a subject like “Pollution in our drinking water”. After choosing a topic we have to research about this topic and on a blog day. You have to blog on what you research on this topic. In total we have to make 3 blogs. After our three blog we are making a debate. We are going to be separated into 6 groups and each group chooses a topic to debate to the other about.

      Well for this project I choose the topic of “Communism ruling Vietnam”. The issue is that in Vietnam has been ruled by communist for 36 years now. Over the last year the communist in Vietnam has taken their power for granted. They started controlling his people and what they do. The reason why I am interested in this situation is because my family and I are Vietnamese and we felt like we have to do something to fix what the communist has done to our country. Also I like researching and learn more about my country.

    Well in my research so far about this subject. I have found out that the Catholic Church in Vietnam has been controlled by communists that rule Vietnam and they are claiming the land that the Catholic Church theirs so they can destruct the building to build a mall or a shopping center. This church is the most famous church in Vietnam and many people go to that church. Started to protest against knocking the church down. Soon after that situation a priest from that church has been beaten and arrested by communist cops. This problem soon raised its climax when the citizens are protesting even more and they are sick and tired of seeing communism control everything they do everyday.

     At this point, I wonder if Vietnam could just stand up together hand in hand try to stop communism from ruling our country. I wonder if the citizens can’t do it would the country get worse or better? Well I have several questions I hope someone could answer it for me. Can Vietnam be better without communism? Can it be better with democracy like America?

Negative Space

What is negative space?
Negative Space is a drawing where you have to draw what you see the outline of the object not the whole thing then using your observations. Color or shade in the blank space or the negative space.

Explain how you found negative space in 1. your cut out?, 2. in your stool drawing?

How I found negative space in my cut out is that by looking at the example on the wall and using that drawing I pointed out my negative space. Then on my stool drawing when I finished my outline I saw these space that I knew on the top of my head was negative space

Why does it help an artist to see in negative space?

What helps an artist to see negative space is just drawing the outline of the art and then the details after that what you see is blank space is negative space

Does seeing in negative space enhance drawings, why or why not?

Some of the enhance drawing does have negative space because all drawing has to have some blank space in the drawing that can become the negative space.

1. Food matters because it factors into what we eat to live but if we eat healthy then we can live long and enjoy our life.

2.Well food plays in my life is that food fuel me to do what I do. For the community is that food powers the community to continue what they do each everyday.

3.Well food plays a role of fueling our brains to focus on studying instead of feeling hungry all day.

This my creative project for the book Macbeth. We have been reading this book and learn how Shakespeare write his play. This creative piece has two parts to it. One is a poem follow by a video that you can watch while reading the poem. This project has help me to learn many things. One is that you can be creative in many ways and also how you should love your work more than everything.

MacBeth’s Journey:

 

This is Macbeth’s journey…

A journey to his destiny…

A destiny where he could be King….

He believed that when he heard,

He heard the weird sisters predictions,

Surprise he said, “supernatural soliciting cannot be ill.

Cannot be good…”

As he said that his luck change

Yes change,

He became a noble guy to becoming a killer…

A killer who is greedy for power and

After that reflecting stating, “To know my deed

‘twere best not know myself”.

He was safely King,

Oh how coward of him to kill a guy

A guy who is a great king, to take his position from him.

Who is his next victim?

Who is it?

Well the next victim is Banquo

How could he kill his partner?

He had a suspicion that Banquo is a danger to him and states,

Then this time he summon murder to do his dirty work

What a coward Macbeth has become from brave man.

Then after that murder of Banquo,

Macbeth has planned to kill Macduff because of his betrayal

Actividades en la clase: Hacer experimentos, trabajar juntos en el trabajo de clase, y aprender a trabajo una grupo.
Responsibilidades: estar preparado, prestar atención, y participar.
Materiales: La computadora, un cuaderno, un lápiz, y seguridad gafas.
Opinión: Me gusta porque es divertida, trabajar duro, y informativo.


La Clase de Bioquímica:

 

Tengo la clase de bioquímica los lunes-jueves todos los días menos miércoles. En la clase de bioquímica mi hacer experimentos, trabajar juntos de clase y aprender a trabajo una grupo. Para la clase mi necesito una computadora, un cuaderno, y seguridad gafas. Señor Sherif es muy inteligente y simpático. Sí Señor Sherif enseña bien porque su método de enseñanza es el mejor. Sí nosotros somos aprender mucho. Para la clase mi necesito una computadora y un lápiz, pero nosotros somos tienen que ser muy trabajar duro. Sí, bioquímica es mi favorito clase porque la clase de bioquímica es muy difícil y enseña tú para trabajar duro. ¿ Y a ti? ¿ Te gusta tu clase de bioquímica? ¿ Qué te gusta hacer experimentos?

Profesor/a: La Srta. Thompson

Opinión: Me fascina porque es dificil y trabajar duro.

   Tengo la clase de geometría los lunes-jueves todo los días menos miércoles. La clase de geometría es muy importante. En la clase de geometría mi hacer la solución de problemas de matemáticas y aprender ecuaciones. Para la clase mi necesito una computadora, una calculadora, y una carpeta. Señorita Thompson es muy simpático y seria de las matemáticas. Sí mi enseña bien, mi enseña mucho. Sí nosotros somos aprender mucho. Para la clase necesitan para tener éxito en la clase de geometría es su comprensión cérea de las matemática. Sí, geometría es mi segundo favorito clase porque la clase de matemáticas es muy difícil pero mas o menos fácil. ¿ Y a ti? ¿Te gusta tu clase de geometría?

Mi escuela SLA es divertida, extraño, y muy diverso. La escuela tener un café para comer y relajante. SLA tener muy estudiantes. SLA tener cuatrocientos- cincocientos estudiantes. La escuela escubicacíon en céntrico Filadelfia. Mi opción de SLA es muy diferente porque la escuela hacer actividades.

Reflection on Q2 Media Fluency

​What I learned from last class was to make everything big. Make the picture big and the text big. It will make the audience contrast between the two baseball players. Then I learned that you can use the magnifine glass to see if the color of your text is the same color or are they different. I also learned that when you do alpha try not to make any part of your picture that you need disappear. The reason why I change the pics is because the other pic with Cole Hamels is too hard to use alpha to make it disappear. Ms. Hull said "try to use alpha without whipping out anything that you need". So I try to fix that and I fixed it. I also adjust the color in the text to make it match.

In this slide I have used all of the methods from Presentation Zen and the slide design website. One of the things that I have learned was that slides have not only text but pictures to support what your slide is showing about your presentation. This method is called Visual Aid. It makes the crowd's attention focus on you and your slide. On Presentation Zen it said here that human's used their sense of looking than any other sense. So you have to add a picture to make that sense even stronger.

I also use the method of using big fonts to make your crowd read less but to think more of how your presentation is like and think of what your presentation represent. In the article about slide design for developers it stated that "letters can be part of an actual presentation". Just like how pictures support the wording on your slide. Words on your slide can also support your visual aid.Also making words bigger in your slide stands out and brings the meaning of your slide out even more.I also leave out lots of space because if you add more and more to your slide. It will cause confusion to your audience.

"What Time is it?"

Imagine a time where your really late to school, but then you don't know the time. You see a spanish speaking person and you don't know how to ask for time. Here in this lesson I'm going to teach you how to ask for time and how you answer it. So the phrase for asking time in english is "What time is it", but in spanish it is "¿Qué hora es?","¿Qué hora son?",  or "¿Qué hora tiene(s)?". Well when you answer it is really simple. The phrase is Son las.. which means It is.. 
Well when you answer for 12:00 pm or am there is also phrases for those too. For 12:00 pm in the middle of the day it is " es el mediodía". For 12:00 am it is "es la medianoche". Well in spanish when you say one o'clock its not " son las uno" that is not the right way to say one o'clock.The correct way is "es la una punto". Well "punto" means "on the dot", so if i say "son las dos punto". It means 2 o'clock on the dot. Well there are also phrases for in the morning, afternoon, and evening. In the morning is "de la mañana".For afternoon is "de la tardes". Then for the evening is "de la noches". You will have to add this when your giving somebody the time. Below you will see flashcards that you can use to practice the phrases in the lesson.
This video is going to be about asking for time and how to answer say time in Spanish. In this scene you will see again a guy and a girl, but this time in this scene this guy is in a hurry. Wondering what time is it really? Then stops by and ask a lady or girl who is sitting in the bench. This guy asks her “¿Qué hora es?” meaning, “What time is it?” and then the way she answers it is “Son las..” meaning “ It is..”.

How to Greet Someone When You First Meet

Well there is a way to greet someone in Spanish. The word to say hello is ¡hola!. Well after you say hi don't you want to ask for their name? Well the phrase to ask them for their name is ¿Cómo te llamas? or to ask an adult you got to ask formally ¿Cómo se llama?. As you can see I underline "se" is the sentences. When you ask a adult you have to use "se" not "te". 


As you can see here there are flashcards you can use to study spanish anytime and anywhere.
Well now I'm going to show you how to answer and ask how are they in spanish. When you ask how are they there will be three phrase for asking how are they. For example ¿Qué tal? or ¿Cómo esta? (tú or usted). Well "usted" is used at the end of the sentence. It is used when asking an adult, tú is used to ask a friend or someone younger than you. So one day if you want to ask your grandparents how are they you should say "¿Cómo está usted?. Well when you answer there are three possible. One possible phrase is Mas o menos, Muy bien, or Muy horrible. On the bottom here there are flash on how you say these things. When you wanna ask someone back you would say "y Tú" it means how about you. Then the person answer back.
Well here is an example for a realife situation of how you ask and answer a " how are you doing" type of questions.

When they ask you you have to end the conversation by saying nice to meet you or nice talking to you right? Well there is one phrase "mucho gusto" means nice to meet you and the way to answer is "igualmente" means  likewise.
This video is going to be about this lesson of how to introduce you. In this scene you will see a guy and a girl. Who are actually meeting each other for the very first time. In this video you will hear these two saying hi to each other. Then the guy asks the girl for her name. After the girl answers him, she also want to know his name so she would say “¿Y tú?” which means “and you”. Also pay close to how they ended the conversation with the words “mucho gusto” meaning “nice to meet you” and “igualmente” meaning “likewise”.
