Capstone Artifact blog post

Posted by Brittany Riggins on Friday, May 25, 2012 at 3:08 pm

What I did for my capstone is write reflective essay for 9 days out of each of the month (5).  About how I deal with using a c-pap machine each night that allows me to breath continuously throughout the night.  What I learned from this is that I felt more strongly about having this disease then I thought once I had to think about it I realize it had made a bigger impact on my life then I had thought.

Below is the questionaire I had about 12 people fill out anonymously.

Quarter 3 Art Experience

Posted by Brittany Riggins in Art - Senior Art - Hull on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 9:29 am
I called this the experience because it was all something new I had to do this first thing I to do was the self portrait of my face. It was difficult for me to do this because I think I see myself one way but I look a different way. I had to see what I was seeing and I realized is what I have to do is scale it down so that it looks realistic but its not ridiculous. So I started drawing the face drawing by looking in the mirror and that didn't work because I still was making the drawing to big. So I asked my teacher what I could do in order to have it be scaled right and she told me to read this book called Exploring art where I could see the drawing of how to draw a head and make it look right. From there I was good to go I started to sketch and draw what I could, I had to draw the head at least 10 times ad even then I still wasn't sure if I had really grasp the correct way to draw the head.

My second drawing was of the color wheel. I heard of the color wheel many a times but I never memorized the colors or the colors that mix to make other colors so this was like a refreshing course. I looked into it by going to read another book my teacher had called discovering the art history. I looked into this book and there I found where it was that I could go to find detailed information about the color wheel. So I drew that color wheel on a big piece of paper with pastels. Then we were asked draw a color wheel with only the primary colors so I did that also with some construction paper and pastels.

The last thing I did was the texture draw, this is where we had to draw something that looked like it had texture to it so at first I was going to draw the snake which was in the example but I was having a little trouble drawing that so I decided I would make something else that loked like it could have texture to it but really didn't so I drew some rain drops and some clouds and some puddles to make it look like if you touch then the rain drops look real but are really not.

Overall I am happy with the work that I have gotten done this quarter I was able to do a lot more research then I expected would go into drawing pictures. I am happy with everything and look forward to be challenged more throughout quarter 4.

Quarter two- Art Creations

Posted by Brittany Riggins in Advanced Art - Hull on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 8:48 am
This Quarter in art class things got a little more advanced we where now taking the basic tools that we have learned in the previous year and applying them to everything we did this, quarter, the list of projects we were assigned to do were, a clear object, a 3D object and to take 200 photos on our own and edit 5 of those photos. The first thing I worked on in the class was the clear object, in quarter 1 we were asked to do something very similar and this is why this was the easiest of the projects to do. "clear object" Starting the clear object was easy Mrs. Hull provided to us a series of clear objects for us to.choose from and I chose something that looked like an hour glass, that tools that I choose to use for this project is a piece of charcol and a 24x36 piece of white construction paper. I started by shading the background with the charcol and making sure it is all evenly spread out. I then started next with making the body part of the glass and shaping a reshaping and making sure that it is as even as possible the top part of the clear object was the most, difficult part because you had to show the object as if it were upright and also evenly circled at the top and at the bottom. Most of my inspiration for this project has been just the fact that I love shapes and objects that have a flow feeling and looking at the picture and I also like the fact that it seemed very easy for me to do. I liked this project because it was easy to. "Edited pictures" I loved this assiignment because it allowed us to use our creative sides we had to take pictures of whatever we like and then edit five of those pictures, the pictures I chose were of my niece that represents life in my eyes and the other inspiration came from fun, I am a teenager and at this point in my life I think fun is a very important attribute to maintain in your life. This assignment was not difficult because the program you have to uae in order to edit pictures is called photoshop and because I have used this before it was fairly easy. "Map of Pennsylvania" My map of pennsylvania was by far my favorite project to do becaise it was all my idea and what I wanted to do my inspiration for this project was my state of course, the tools that I used to complete these projects were construction paper and me I got cutting and pasting and moving things around and that is when I decided what I was making. I love the way my project turned out but I wish I could have completed it faster it took up alot of my class periods to make but I am still proud of the overall project.

Quarter 2 Benchmark: 14th Amendment

Posted by Brittany Riggins in American Government - Laufenberg on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at 6:46 pm
I would like to start out by saying me and my partner Samantha have learned alot more about ourselves and our struggles with our past and our present by completing this project. Using the 14th amendment with both of us having ethic backgrounds and expeirencing discrimination in some sort of way whether it be school, jobs, or anything that we as people can come into contact where you can possibly be judged for, we deal with on a daily basis. I know that not only is the 14th amendment important to me and Samantha, but that law being written im the past has given us ample opputunities for today and will give us even more our futures. We hope that you enjoy our video.
One of the main reasons why me I choose amendent 14 is because I realized that without this amendent there would be a drastic change to,the lives we lead today. although there are many topics that fall under the 14th amendment the one that hit close to home was discrimination. We live in a time where everyone has the same equal rights but not for a second do I forget the people who fought, died and marched to get those rights granted. I did this amendment because I could relate to the feeling the desire and the privelege of people who were discriminated against but ultimately survived and knew they deserved better and got better. What I enjoyed most about this project is that it allowed me to take time out to think about the day to day things I do without even thinking about it twice and really examine if this amendment was not there, there would be many things even on my way to school that would be difficult for me to do, on the other hand the most challenging thing to do was to relate the message though a presentation even though there was a Set way you had to present it making your video unique and different was the hard part. While doing this project the most interesting fact is that people who we incuded in our video were good at explaining thier point of views on the subject and had stories as to go with our topic that was interesting. I loved doing this project but overall if there was anything I could improve it would be our timing and our editing. The timing part was good but towards we had some problems with sound and what not, but if we would have had more time that we paced ourseleves we could have had it perfect. And editing it was both our first time working with editing so that was kind of difficult. What I learned is that don't forget that life is how itbecuase of these amendments.

Lobbying Post #4 Sick Leave (Communication)

Posted by Brittany Riggins in American Government - Laufenberg on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 7:03 am
I have decided that I would write a letter for the communication choice. In the letter I explained who I was and why I was writing to them and for what purpose. I have decided to write to mayor Michael Nutter who vetoed the bill in June 2011. In the letter I expressed to him how I am a supporter of the sick leave bill and that people who have to take care of a sick family member for a few days or take a day off for maybe people who has lost someone recently, these people should be payed.    I explained that I think in the work place of businesses people forget that outside of work the people who work for them have lives outside of the office, they have children and husbands and families that they need to attend to sometimes and I think that people lose the humane part of themselves while working and worrying about money.

The first step in writing the letter was to figure out who i could write to that could make a difference, when I did research one people who could make a difference that I could get into easy contact with and the first person I thought of when I decided was Mayor Nutter he is the Mayor of Philadelphia and he has also vetoed a bill for it so that made it even more easy I knew that in writing to him about the issue that he would care because he was already involved with the situation. The next step in making contact with the the mayor.

The second step is sending out the letter and hoping that it gets to the right person at the right time. The whole point in trying to make contact with someone directly in the system is to get some sort of result on the issue that you found interesting or hopefully someone can contact me back letting me know specifics on what is to come with the sick leave bill in the future so that I can be more updated on my topic.

What I hope will come from m contacting the mayor is for him to know that there are people that are outside of legislation who do pay attention to what is happening in our congress and our government and there are people who know the importance of the future things that are going to take place today for tomorrow. I hope that when he gets this letter he responses with positive feedback and is more then impressed with the project that we have been working on for the past months.

FAA VS. Cooper

Posted by Brittany Riggins in American Government - Laufenberg on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at 9:13 am

FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) Vs. Cooper.

Question: What did congress mean by actual damages?

The issue:  The issue is do mental and emotional injuries count and actual damages under the privacy act of 1974?

Cooper sued:  In 2007 Cooper sued the federal government saying the three agencies in safe pilots intentionally violated the privacy act when they sent his records to other agencies trying to cause him embarrassment, humiliation, mental anguish and emotional distress

 Privacy act no. 5 U.S.C

Cooper’s rational:  he felt as though people knowing his HIV status would have a bad effect on his job and his being gay would affect other aspects in his life.

CASE:  This case was about a man named Stanmore Cawthon Cooper was private airplane pilot since 1964 and when you are a pilot you get a flying certificate and to legally be able to fly a plane you have to follow the rules set by the FAA which is a pilot has to have a valid up to date “airman certificate” and this means the you have to let the FAA know if you have any illness or disabilities or surgeries you have had or have currently. This became a problem for cooper because in 1985 he was diagnosed with HIV and he knew that he would not be able to get his certification to fly with this on his records so he decided that he would stop flying. Then in 1994 with this he had to give in his medical information again but this time he chose not to give the information on him having HIV. This time because he did not tell them about his HIV he received his flying certificate and for ten years he was flying for ten years each year still keeping this information hidden. Copper eventually got caught when one his health started getting worse and he applied for SSA (social security Administration.) for long term disability. and when he applied he told the SSA the he had HIV with the understanding the everything he puts in the application is private and confidential in order for them to see if they find him eligible. He was found eligible and received the benefits from SSA for a year during this year his health improved drastically and he no longer needed the benefits so he drops the SAA he was receiving. In 2002 and agency named DOT (department of transportation came out with “Operation safe Pilot” which was an investigation to find unfit people with pilot certificates and this agency was partnered with the SAA so during the investigation they went through the list of people who were pilots and cross examined their information to make sure everything matched up and while doing this they found that Cooper had been lying and not telling them about his HIV status.  Because he lied to the government in 2005 he was found guilty on 3 counts of false statements to government agency. He pleaded guilty to one count. His pilot certificate was revoked. No decision has been made but Copper is fought to get his pilot certificate back and he did after careful consideration the FAA reinstated it for him.

Lobbying Blog Post #3 Sick Leave Bill

Posted by Brittany Riggins on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 12:56 pm
The legislature I chose is not against the sick leave bill either is is mostly indifferent. he feels as though people who have a medical emergency or have been working for a company a long time should be consider to be payed on the days they have to take of to be sick, he feels it would not manke any sense for people to stay in the workplace if they are sick because then they will just make other people sick and then you would have many different people in the workplace calling out and then no one will be working. Democratic Gov. Dannel Malloy, this bill has been a bill that has been argued over and over again for many and many hours, 18-17 to be exact is what it keeps coming down to. He has promised to sign the bill.

Malloy was born and raised in Stamford Connecticut and was not considered to be a very bright boy in his earlier years until he was diagnosed with dyslexia. he then learned the he was not stupid but would just have to learn differently then his classmates.  He went to college in Boston and earned a degree in law and he would later go to New york and become district attorney (1980-1984).  The people who are going to be effected by this outcome of the sick leave bill will ultimately be the people who work and come to work even when they are sick, there are many people working on this veto to get it all signed and everyone on the same page.

When I first took on this issue to lobby I thought I could not inform people about it or make a difference but I think if you let people know how they can possibly be working without pay then I think people will pay more attention to the cause and make more of a big deal about the problem.

Certification to be a Teacher

Posted by Brittany Riggins in American Government - Laufenberg on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 9:34 am
Screen Shot 2011-12-09 at 11.34.36 AMMe and Alaya White decided that we would do the Bureaucratic tasks of finding out how to get your certification to become a teacher in the state of Pennsylvania. The process was fairly easy it was easy to find information it was a bunch of information on the internet to find pdf's and other paperwork that you need to fill out to become a teacher and to find where there was a high demand for teachers. While dealing with the paperwork side of things it was straight forward there were two specific paperwork packets that we had to fill out that were important to that process, the first packets name is (General Application for Pennsylvania Certificate) and the other is (College/University verification Form PDE 338C.

Another thing we noticed as oppose to other people's topic is that this process is a fairly more easy to get a teacher certification in Pennsylvania, one question that I asked myself is why are some processes more complicated to complete then others and the answer that I came up with is because there are many ways that you can get around the systems today this is why people in charge and the head of companies make so many steps and processes that they make you go through so that they can make sure that your information is legit and you are who you say you are so that things can go smoothly and correctly.

Even though we really enjoyed the project if there was one thing I could change it would be to know how to work the program lucid chart better, this was the first time that I had ever worked with it so I feel like if I would have worked with it before it would have been better for me to really get into it and make it even more advanced and even better then it is.

In conclusion, I enjoyed the process of really figuring out what a teacher has to go through in order to become a teacher, I would not mind being assigned more projects in the future where we have to use lucid charts to give information and describe processes in the upcoming projects.

Go to Lucidchart!

Science and Society Benchmark 2011

Posted by Brittany Riggins in Science and Society - Best on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 11:45 am
Personal Reflection
In this unit we have looked at many different things including organic food vs. conventional food we have looked at how animals are treated and raised before they are killed, we looked at big businesses and small businesses and we also have taken a look at fast food places and how they like to have their food replicated the same way. The one thing I think was most important about all of the discussions we have had about what we can do differently ourselves to make a difference in the our own communities. some people suggested that they would become vegetarians some people suggested that we stop buying from bigger businesses and start eating from smaller more healthy places. Another big deal that is going on is that we have talked about health insurance and obesity in the country. I personally think that the biggest problem with food related issues in children is that it is very accesible and cheap. I think if corner stores were not on every other corner in almost every section of the city than the obesity rate would drastically change just from that. Some changes I can make are to eat more healthy I have already eliminated soda from a regular diet and I do not eat after a certain time but I can make more conscious choices to pick out organic foods specifically or read labels and ask more questions. I think in making some of these choices I would feel better maybe be more energized and maybe lose weight . I think if I really wanted to I could make this change

Step 3: when the noodles are done place them into the strainer and drain all of the water from the noodles

Step 9: then the next thing is take a tablespoon and a teaspoon of relish and place this into the bowl
Step 10: this step is based off of skill and eyeballing and feeling now salt and pepper into the bowl
Step 11: mix everything together
Step 12: taste everything and make sure it taste good
Note:  the amount of each ingredient depends on how much you are making. so amounts may vary.

Analysis:
Even though this dish is not the healthiest it is delicious and tasty. As long as I can remember my dad has been making this dish and it has always been my favorite thing to eat. This is why I decided that I would make this dish for the class.

As far as each ingredient goes it really depends on what you want to make it you can make this dish more healthy for example instead of using regular noodles you can use wheat noodles and you can change the meat that you put into it, relish has some kind of syrupy type of liquid into the relish, you can put whatever kind of eggs you want to put into it.

This dish can come from anywhere most of the ingredients are processed and ready to go, I had trouble trying to find exactly where all the ingredients come from but we can produce some of the ingredients on Philadelphia farms also.

This meal did not cost that much we have most of the ingredients already but if I were to guest I would say an maximum of  20 dollars. Overall the project was fun and exciting it is nice to not only see people bring in cultural foods but foods that mean something to them.

Lobbying Blog Post 2: Robert Brady

Posted by Brittany Riggins on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 9:31 am
I did some research and I found that Robert Brady is my district representative of the 1st district. I was very excited at the fact that I found out he was my representative because he,really is a good representative of what Philadelphia needs, he is involved witht the NAACP, the human rights association, he was honored by the National parks association, he goes on the streets of Philadelphia and helps with the homeless shelters and he makes sure that the budget for Philadelphia is as evenly spread out as possible. Lately some of his business ventures have been heavily based upon medicare and things of that nature even though he has his hands in many things at the moment some of the things he,voted against th cut to parents who get WIC, he has voted for womens healthcare and senior medicare. I have not seen anything about how he voted on the sick leave bill that, has been proposed but if I were to guess I would have to say, that,he would vote for it from reading about Robert Brady I get the feeling that he is a for the people by the people kind of guy, and when you think about it who in their right mind would want someone to work when they are sick. He is the type to have the the better for the people and I can comfortabley say he would be on board with the sick leave bill. Quarter 1: Life size model drawing

Posted by Brittany Riggins in Advanced Art - Hull on Sunday, November 6, 2011 at 8:39 pm
This was the first project that I was assigned to do and I first thought there is no way that I can ever draw a life size human being and I have never done this in my life. That is when my insructor (mrs. Hull) told me not to say I can't do it because I,can but I just have to try and from there I started. when I first started out I had one model but them that drawing got thrown away so I had to start over once I stated over I was bot completely happy with what I had but I thought with a little tweaks here and there it would get better, until that one got thrown away by someone, needless to say at this point I was beyond frustrated because now this is my third time drawing, but I did not give up I started one last time but this time with a different model because the one I had started with with not there that day. The tool that I used to draw the life size drawing it called pastels. I am happy thati got threw it and drew what I could to the best of my abilities, I was very inspired while drawing to music and looking at how other people approached drawing their life, size drawings. Thank you for reading my blog post and viewing my art

Quarter 1: Clear Object Drawing

Posted by Brittany Riggins in Advanced Art - Hull on Sunday, November 6, 2011 at 7:38 pm
I would like to welcome you to look at my first clear drawing. I am in advanced art and one of the assignmets we were assigned to do is to pick a glass object and draw it as you see it. The object should appear from your point of view and should be as detailed as possible. The object that I chosr to draw was the one I thought would be the simplest, I was wrong but I chose a sort of bowl shaped object. When I first started the object I was hesistant to start becuase I didnt want to mess up, I soon got over that and decided thst I would start, from the simplest task and draw lightly. We were insructed to use a tool called charcol which is a skinny black chalk like tool and it can break very easily. My first step was some thing called shading, to do this i just took the charcol on its side and move the tool up and down left and right and then take your hand and kind of smear it in just a little bit. After I had my background all set I move on to the bowl. I first drew the top of the bowl how I seen it and then I drew the aide of the bowl and tried to make them as even on both sides as possible because the bowl is wide this was at times frustrating but I would shade again and start over. The next part is the inside of the bowl on the bottom is a circular part of the bowl but to the eye it is invisible so I had to draw it and then shade the inside of it, shading is my favorite part of the art process by the way with this project. After I drew the object the best I thought it looked it was time to put what I call the glare into the bowl where the light hits it. When I did this I had to use an eraser to give it that affect. I loved this part to I found it interesting that just with little tweaks here and there you can really make a picture come alive. After I drew this object I felt really good about it and it also made me feel more confident about doing other art in the future. I n this process I really got most of my inspiration and motivation from watching everyone in the class and watching, how their art hhas changed witht the drawing and re-drawing and changing thier perspectives and starting over. I like yhe fact that with this perticular piece we had time to think about what,we wanted to draw, and how we wanted to draw it. This gave this project more or a free independent feel rather then an assigment that you have to get done and over with. I hope you enjoyed reading my blog post about my spectacular clear art.

Story of a bill; Employment discrimination Laws

Posted by Brittany Riggins in American Government - Laufenberg on Friday, November 4, 2011 at 2:36 pm
When choosing which bill I should do it was kind of difficult because there are so many bills and laws out there to choose from so I decided that I would choose the first one that sounded interesting to me and the one that I really know least about. After choosing this bill I decided that the best way to present it was in prezi, I like prezi for presenting things because it is not lecturing to people and it is not boring, I like prezi's because they give out the information but in a interesting way. Even though I like presenting in a prezi there were some issues that did occur. Some of which what order I wanted to tell the story, another problem that came up is how long should the presentation be so that is does not become boring and so that people can get a full understanding of the bill is saying. If I can do the project all over again I probably would would maybe try to present it in some kind of comical way. What the research and investigation process tells us about the creation process is basically what happens with other bills some one notices that something is not working for them so they propose a way to solve it and it goes from there, what I did notice is that it is not that hard in the beginning but towards the end it became much more easy.

Lobbying For: Council Votes 15-2 to OK sick-leave bill; veto chances unclear

Posted by Brittany Riggins on Friday, October 14, 2011 at 11:57 pm
http://www.philly.com/philly/news/pennsylvania/20111014_Council_votes_15-2_to_OK_sick-leave_bill__veto_chances_unclear.html

With the economy today I know we are trying to save money and be as resourceful as possible with our money. Recently introduced by Wilson Goode Jr. the council voted on what is being called the Ok sick-leave bill, which is basically saying that when you are sick and cannot come into work you should be payed for that day. Some people such as Brian O'Neil feel that this is not fair because you should be payed only fot the work that you do, and some people such as Bill Greenlee and Darrell Clarke which were two men who had the bill sick-leave measure but did not get the the council enough votes to override Mayor Nutter veto they also felt as though if you feel your sick you can't work but you still need to get payed so why not just pay them. I feel as though you should be payed on a sick day, the reason being is that for one thing when you are sick you do not work as efficiently as you would if you were in good health, another thing is if you come into the work place sick and their sickness is contagious that will spread to other workers and now instead of having one person call out at a time you have three or four people calling out at a time. Today we look at things through one lens we and we see the money money money issue but we fail to realize that we need people humans to make this money and as a human at one point or another you are going to get sick and you are going to need a break, but why be punished for something that is out of your control. There has not been any final decisions made on the case so far but the are going to keep trying to get the bill passed and have the votes override the mayoral vote or veto so that they can pass this bill and hopefully for once not only look for the money in things but realize that sometimes we have to remember that as a government we put them in place to have things in order and be able to make decisions fo us the people.

What If? Taking the power out of the NAACP

Posted by Brittany Riggins in American History - Laufenberg on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 3:49 pm
what if Prezi

What I liked about the project was the same thing that I disliked about the project. For this project we got to choose the topic and the way in which we would present the information that I have found I liked this because it gave us the freedom to be in charge of what we wanted to do, but at the same time I rather do things that have a rubric and specific steps to follow because I find it easier that way. When I was doing my research the most interesting fact that I found was that most of the people who were already involved in the NAACP were people who did not have a lot of power but had more of a faith in what their organization stood for which created power. I like this because I thought before I need the project the only reason why the group got anything done was due to the fact that there was power in the group but that did not turn out to be the case, which made my hypothesis not entirely factual so this added a twist to my project.  The actions of specific individuals is made up of the reasons why the historical record is impacted, for instance if Martin Luther King Jr. was not born this would have made a huge impact on the historical record which would be changing the record completely. Also the way in which historical events happen is different too because if something happened before the time it was suppose to happen that could make sense. One decision can influence historical events because usually when things happened back then then that stirred up a whole chain of events. Throughout the project I had a certain way that I wanted the project to look like and a certain way that I wanted to story to be told, if I could have improved anything for the project it would be the way I choose to present it. If I could do it all over I would like to have more of a solid topic when I first started I had two topics in mind so it took me a while to start the actual process of getting the project started. So I felt like with research and other things I had to rush a little but I am still happy with the final product.

Musical Instrument Blog post #2

Posted by Brittany Riggins on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 9:44 am
I think that sound is produced by the vibrations of the metal/wooden stick hitting against the metal part
of the xylophone and that is what creates the sound. For example when you hit the metal thing with the
stick and then we heard the noise we came to the conclusion that the reason why we could hear it was
because of the air particles around the metal piece that was vibrating the us could hear the sound.

A way that I can change the pitch with using a xylophone is to change the size of the metal pieces that
I will be using some can be thick and some can be thin. Some can be bigger than others. The specific
characteristics that will make a difference are if I make some metal pieces are small and some metal
pieces are big.

The materials that I will need for this instrument are metal, wood, wooden or metal stick and some
crews. Metal is for the pieces that will be banged on to create the sound, the wood is for the foundation
for the metal pieces to sit on, the screws are to keep the metal pieces in place and the wooden or metal
stick is to create the sound.

One question that I still have is, what kind of math is involved in creating any kind of instrument, but
specifically for my project a creating a xylophone.

How is it played? What does the person have to do to produce sound?

Metal
reeds are good for Jazz and hard rubber is good for classical sounds.
positioning the mouth:  The reed should be even with the top of the
mouth piece the reed should be down toward the lower lip and you teeth
should be on top roll your lip over you bottom teeth then you want make
a smirk so it will pull the muscles surrounding your teeth up. this is
vital for the tones that you wanna get. You get sound by blowing air
into the reed at the top of the saxaphone and depending on how much
air pressure you breath into the saxaphone that is that specific tone
that you will get make sure that the air is steady do not move the
mouth along with a process called tounging which is used to seperate
notes.

How do you change a note? (you might have to watch very carefully to see this)
With
the saxaphone they use a process called tounging to seperate notes.
also when playing th saxaphone it is very important to keep all
fingers down, and you do not have to lift all the fingers every time you
play a different note this will make your hands tired.

How is it shaped?
The saxaphone is shaped like a check mark but a curve on the top or like a Nike symbol and has buttons on the front of it.

What does this make you think about how you can create and change sound?
This
makes me think that I can create sounds by making minimal changes to
the instruments. and you can create mostly anything an instrument.

What connections (if any) do you think you can draw between what you are observing and you might already know about waves?
The
connection that I have made with the saxaphone and what I already know
about sound waves are that pressure and force are always involved in
how the tone or sound of and object will come out.

Anniston, Alabama PCB Poisoning

Posted by Brittany Riggins on Monday, May 9, 2011 at 1:12 pm
Reflection:

a. What went well?
The things that went well with the group is that we had a lot of knowledge about our topic and we knew how we wanted to present that knowledge to our peers.
b. What did not?
The things that did not go well with the group is that sometimes the whole group was not together in one place, and sometimes we could not find all the info we needed so we needed to do deeper research.
c. What would you do differently next time?
The things that we said we would try to do differently is to make sure we are all on ethe same page about what information we have found.
d. Specifically comment on the 10 tips for effective infographics -

Be Concise: This makes sure that everyone you are presenting to knows and gets all the knowledge that you have.

Be Visual: If the visual is attractive then people will gravitate to your project and want to know more about it.

Be Smarter: If you think deeper about your topic then you will have more ideas and have a better project overall.

Be Transparent: If you can see your project how someone else would see your project then you can make your project that much better.

Be Different: People like different because it is appealing so you should always be different.

Be Accurate: If someone is reading your project it needs to be accurate so that people can know exactly what you are saying.

Be Attractive: If you project looks good it will make people feel good!

Be Varied: have some differences and some debates on you topic that is always interesting to a reader or viewer.

Be Gracious: The topic is a sensitive one depending on who's point of view you are telling it in so be mindful of the  different types of people that will or may be reading it.

Be Creative: creativity is always is a plus because it shows how much time and effort you put into giving a good.

Which of these areas did you excel in? I excel in transparency and creativity Which were not so well represented? varied and gracious  Why do you think some elements of design were easier or harder to include in the end product? Sometimes this happens because there are so many things that you want to focus one that you forget the little things that make that difference in whether someone likes the project or doesn't.

Voting election project/interview

Posted by Brittany Riggins on Monday, November 15, 2010 at 1:27 pm
The interview:
These are the question that I asked:
1) Do you vote in every election? (how regularly do you vote?)
2) What was the most memorable campaign ad that you have encountered?
3) Are you always sure of who you are going to vote for when you walk into the booth or are you still deliberating?
4) Did you learn about voting in school? If yes did that impact your willingness to vote today?
5) Do you know why we vote on Tuesday?
The interviewee- Michelle Bowe
answer to question 1- yes. every time
answer to question 2- The most memorable campaign ad that I have come across wold have to be the portrait with the first black president and his family. It not only shows him as a politician but also as a real person and I like to see those kinds of qualities in people I would want in charge.
answer to question 3- You know what I keep up on all my current events and watch the news and everything but when it comes down to going to vote I'm still kind of second guessing myself because the mission of these politicians is to get your vote and they make all kinds of promises and very Little do we see the results of those promises so I think and think because I do not want to contribute to being one of the people who put the wrong person in charge or in office.
answer to question 4- No. No at all like this going out and asking questions and stuff. I don't think I started voting until my late 20s until I had an understanding of political awareness and knowing that that my voice needed and needs to be heard.
answer to question 5- No.
