Serbia ~ Election Country

Posted by Amaris Romero in Globalization - Laufenberg on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 9:17 am
Serbian Election Country
We went to multiple websites and couldn’t find much. Originally a peer of ours claimed that there was someone at her international school from Serbia and that we could interview her but unfortunately we waited about a month before we asked her if she could get in contact with her Serbian friend. Our friend made a mistake and sadly there was no one from her school that’s Serbian. We then started to look online for international schools in America for kids and there were several schools that had programs specifically for Serbian students. We tried to get in contact with the school through email but we never received a response. We started looking for other schools but during the moment in, which we were searching a friend of ours told us to look for penpals because that’s how they got in contact with people in their country. We then looked up penpals in Serbia and a list of emails popped up. We emailed several students from over there but only one replied and we took our chance. She is a 19 or 20 year old we believe and she is actually majoring in Economy. We had a small conversation with her at first before we asked her. Afterwards we asked her if she could help us and she did she got a interview with someone who was about to vote. It was interesting because she didn’t have a problem with doing it, she easily got the interview for us. There was only one problem with the interview her English isn’t that well so she tried to translate into English.

Interview:

1. What made you come out and vote ? What motivated you?
2. What would you like to see change in the political system?
3. How regularly do you vote? Do you always vote?
4. Are you always positive about who you’re going to vote for?
5. What impact do you think your vote will have on the election?
6. What campaigns have you come across? Which campaigning ad have you come across the most? radio,TV, Magazine, Other

1. A desire for progress and changes that are necessary for Serbia so it can be strong and powerful country.
2. Firstly I would like that every citizen is equally respected and honored no matter what is its sex and material status. Equality between women and men is necessary in every jobs. Structure of national parliament should be changed too, and young people should be there, ones who will fight for benefits for everyone, not just for those who are in parliament.
3. I'm trying to stand by my citizen duty and always vote if I can.
4. No. Because our parties doesn't have clearly defined goal, from campaign to campaign they change their stands which casts doubt on their determination for changes.
5. Probably not so big influence, but if everyone would think that one vote doesn't mean nothing then elections would be unnecessary.
6.Last few months politicians are everywhere, so I'm informed from every possible side about every party and their goals.

Immigration Success Stories

Posted by Amaris Romero in Globalization - Laufenberg on Friday, May 25, 2012 at 11:54 pm
Amaris Romero & Natasha Ashby

Reflection:

The most challenging part about this benchmark was trying to figure out how to layout the entire process. It was difficult for us because we were unsure on how to provide a good design. In the end we designed it in a way where we felt it was the most creative yet simple.

The story was easy for us to get because there are many students within the school who of course have a story to tell. There were many students who had similar stories and throughout the process of us finding  a topic to focus on it was simple because a friend was telling us her story and she started to mention the different people who are in similar positions as her. Her story inspired us to go outside of the box and interview multiple people in order to have a thorough general understanding of successful immigration stories.

I believe that this story hasn't received much attention because it hasn't been revealed. I feel like it is unknown but in a way it is known because we know about it. It's unknown because no one takes the time to acknowledge or notice an immigrants story.

Yes, if our article is shared to the public and no because if this article only stays within the walls of the school how will anyone else be able to hear out their stories.

I learned so much from this assignment I've learned about how strong people are and how monstrous others are. It all depends on the way you were raised I suppose because of everything that is being taught to them. I learned to be a leader like Bach and to keep moving forward never to let anyone bring you down.

Q3 Benchmark: Japan & Serbia

Posted by Amaris Romero in Globalization - Laufenberg on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at 1:24 am

The countries I chose were Japan and Serbia. The countries share a lot of commonalities involving environmental damages. My project overall discusses all of the five point framework points and also involves the ratings that I gave the country based on their performance. I decided to present my work on a pages document and convert it as a PDF file for online. I created my work in the same layout as a previous student's project at SLA. I really enjoyed the way she showed her project the way everything was organized. It was easy to read and to me I felt it was exotic yet fun and NOT boring.

Deciding on the ratings from the different countries I realized that I had to really be strict about it because this was the real deal to me. I felt as though it was complicated but then again it wasn't. I had a hard time trying to figure out, which number I wanted to give each country based on their environmental damages, climate changes and so forth. It was the point where I had to judge both countries on the same frame point. It got to the point where I didn't really focus on what other people thought because this was my opinion not any one else's.

If I were to do this project again I wouldn't wait til last minute like I did with this project. I would use my time wisely next time. I would also try to use a different kind if layout instead of going straight for Kimbery Bush's layout. It was creative and well thought out I believed I also think that maybe if I would have taken my time doing this project I would have though up a better way to present my work rather then following someone's layout.

Film Review: "Drive"

Posted by Amaris Romero in Digital Video -4 day a week - Herman on Friday, March 9, 2012 at 9:01 pm
"Drive" opens up with a similar view from the movie "Transporter" with a robbery and a get away car. With Ryan Gosling as the driver and techno music playing to set the scene of the "get away." Ryan Gosling's character shows no emotion in his face from the scene where he is waiting for the robbers to come out of the building no sign of impatience or anything just an emotionless character. I personally dislike his character because of how emotionless he was. I would prefer his character to be a bit more outrageous and unexpected because of the fact that he is a professional driver in films and out on the streets of Los Angeles. His character is very traditional because in the films such as "Transporter 1 2 & 3" Jason Stathman's character is emotionless just as seen in the film "Drive." I personally think the reason for this is to try to make the character as ordinary as possible. In the first several scenes of the movie there are many close-up, reflection shots. One of them being in the very beginning when Ryan Gosling is speaking on the phone with someone and hoe he was looking out the window, with the camera at a angle showing his reflection. Also another scene in the beginning where Ryan Gosling is driving in his car through Los Angeles and having the camera on the inside showing his reflection through the mirror. There are many of these shots throughout the film I believe that the director chose to do many of these reflection shots to prove and make the scene and create the character that was being shown.

The sound in this film is very natural I would say because the movie is very quiet. Most of the scenes  lacked in dialogue not exactly creating much. I disliked the lack of dialogue throughout the film but the music in the background created so much. Tense building up in the viewer, the scene in the elevator where Ryan pushes Irene to the side and the song "A Real Hero" starts to play sung by College Featuring Electric Youth. The lyrics of the song creates the scene and I believe expresses what Ryan is bound to do at that very moment getting ready to save the one he has a great interest in. Irene automatically speeds out of the elevator right after her intense, spotlight scene kiss with Ryan. As soon as she notices the dramatic fight that goes on in front of her eyes and the close-up with Ryan stomping on a mans face she speeds out in shock. The lighting of this one scene is a spotlight because it only focuses on the two characters at the moment and just when the lighting expands and allows the next character comes in, you can feel the presence of something bound to happen. I don't believe this scene was as realistic as it could have been. The way Ryan's foot drove down onto the mans face I felt not connection or relationship to realism. I felt as though the characters could have grunted a bit more and actually had an angle on the mans face as Ryan was stomping down.

The props in the film I believe created the characters and made them look more scary and intimidating. The way Ryan gripped his hands around a bat while wearing leather gloves in the scene where he was speaking on the phone with Albert Brooks who is one of the most powerful men in the movie. This scene created how intimidating the characters are meant be. The style of the characters and costumes they wore from Ryan being casual and ordinary to the big bad "Gangsters" of the film wearing professional clothing such as suits creating how powerful they can be or how to present themselves to the public. The environment in, which each of the characters are set in is very private yet very open. I wish why the director chose these setting for each Ryan and Albert individually. The way the director chose to create the film is very traditional. A typical person acting on an ordinary lifestyle but finds a great interest in one but ends up getting into trouble and having to face the consequences by having the one they care about get threatened in some way.

Ryan Gosling's character takes great interest in his neighbor and as he gets to know her a dramatic twist occurs her husband is returning home from prison. Throughout the movie the husband gets into some kind of trouble involving money and Ryan steps in to save the day but a big problem occurs and later on the husband is murdered and now Ryan is ready to step up to plate in order to protect Irene and her son no matter what the consequences and what dangers step in his way. He is ready to end this. This all ends when Ryan tells his friend to leave and never return in order to escape everything going on. His friend is then murdered in garage where Ryan works as a mechanic. Ryan goes after the men after he realizes his friend was just murdered and gets his revenge. He makes one last phone call to Irene and she answers but never speaks and Ryan feels like its to late that she will never forgive him so he hangs up and kills the "gangsters." He then drives off in the end and a back and forth shot between Irene and Ryan comes up where Irene is walking towards Ryan's apartment realizing that she will forgive him while he is driving off.

The main scenes that grabbed my attention throughout the film was the elevator scene when Ryan had stomped the guys face continuously. I felt this scene is important because it showed a sign of protecting and wanting between who he really was and what he was willing to do in oder to protect those he cared about. Another scene was when Ryan had first met Irene's husband he came off as intimidating. I felt this was important because a the saying goes "looks can be deceiving." I believe this is what his character did. When Ryan saw his close friend murdered in the garage emotion finally appeared in his eyes and the yearning for revenge came along. When Irene's car broke down at the grocery store this I feel is important because this is when their entire bond connected. In the end I don't think it was about him developing a relationship with the another human being but the fact of him continuing his relationship with driving. It all connected in the end with him driving off. I would say this all developed because of both of his careers his one career of driving for movies and another for illegal acts.

The most compelling scene of the movie as well connected to the storyline was the relationship between Ryan and his skill of driving. Not exactly his relationship with Irene because it was obvious thats where the story was heading. The storyline I felt was more compelling with his relationship. I felt as though it wasn't obvious that he was going to drive to off. It left the audience guessing and left everyone wondering if Ryan would randomly pop up behind Irene after she knocked on his apartment after no response. But no, nothing I felt this was the mystery and the continuing of his life and wondering if he would continue the same path except in another city/town. "Human Curiosity" is what filled the air at the end of the film.

World of 100 Analysis

Posted by Amaris Romero in Globalization - Laufenberg on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 9:33 pm

I was shocked at the overall data for those living on less then 2USD because my answers and the overall class average are roughly close to each and the correct averages were at about 47. I found it interesting that my answers were considered the highest because I was expecting a majority of people to live on less then 2USD where in reality and according to the correct answers it is actually fairly lower then my average and the class average. I was expecting the correct answers to be fairly high like my average. The data set for those living on more then 2USD shocked me as well because considering the fact that there are only 100 people living in the world I would expect, not many living on 2USD. I was surprised when the correct answers showed to be higher then 50 people living on more then 2USD. The class average seemed fair to me because it was in between not to little and not to much.

The literacy levels for the males who are able to read and write didn't shock me as much because I was right on task. I was roughly close and I had a good overall understanding although I wasn't as close to the correct answers. I didn't feel like anything could have been changed for my answers or the overall class average because of the different opinions people put into it. The males who are unable to read and write surprised me because I was expecting the correct answers to be similar to my results and to the class averages but the outcome turned out to be the exact opposite. The correct answers resulted in having a fairly low amount of males unable to read and write where I thought it would be significantly higher amount. The females who are able to read and write didn't surprise me considering the fact that the correct answers and my answers were similar to one another. Where the class average surprised me because it was lower then my average and the correct answers. The females who are unable to read and write surprised me as well because the correct answer and my answers showed similarities but I was confused by how off the class averages were.

I was confused by my data because it my head it made sense to have a low amount of cell phone subscribers because previously I had assumed that there were very little, persons getting more then 2USD and therefore I assumed that the results I chose were relevant. The non cell phone subscribers caught me by surprise as well because my answers were fairly high and so was the class average but the correct answer were low. I believe that this happened because of my previous decision of the cell phone subscribers. I assumed the same thing for the internet users, the fact that I had chosen very little, persons getting more then 2USD and that if affected how many active and inactive internet users there are. I was surprised by high my answers were for the inactive users and how low they were for active internet users. The class average surprised me because the results from the class and the correct answers were fairly similar and at about the same place for one another. My results were the only ones off.

I would say the most accurate would probably be in the category of literacy involving the female gender. I think this was the case because in my head in the past many females were very intelligent and knew many things about learning how to write and read. I think that overall in this case that it made sense to me to have majority rules because there weren't many peoples to base it off of. The most inaccurate would probably be in the technology section involving cell phone users. I think this is because of the way I answered previous date involving the poverty rates.
The poverty levels shocked me the most because considering the fact that there are only 100 people I never thought to settle more then half of them on more then 2USD. I expected it to be fairly lower and I expected a majority of them to be living on less then 2USD.
I would say that I was on spot several times and way off at other times because throughout the results and the averages overall I realized that not everything I decided would match up and I knew I would be off. My results resulted in the way the did because of previous decisions I made on the previous topics at hand. I based my overall answers on other topic answers I have chosen.

The Disappearance of Alice Creed (Review)

Posted by Amaris Romero in Digital Video -4 day a week - Herman on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 10:14 pm

“The Disappearance of Alice Creed” was written and directed by J. Blakeson. The movie was released in 2009, which is a crime and thriller film about two British men who set up an apartment so that it can be presented as a prison for a woman that they kidnap. This thriller film is a three-character film that takes place in one location, which never fails to set a very tense atmosphere.

Two men who conduct a plan to receive 2 million dollars kidnap Alice (Gemma Arterton), the daughter of a very wealthy businessman. Vic (Eddie Marsan) mainly thought of the plan the older male kidnapper; he planned the entire process while he was in prison.

The environment was very calm and stable it seemed to me like a perfect mood setter especially with the music, (by Marc Canham) to me it felt like drama was about to happen because although the music was low it was still tense and had that vibe where something was about to happen.

In the beginning of the film two of main characters Vic and Danny (Martin Compston) focus on setting up the environment in which they will keep the prisoner. There are a lot of close-up and extreme close up shots that really show the very descriptive and detailed scenes of the preparations of creating the environment and setting the mood of tense and drama. To me I felt as though the shots were positioned very well and the lighting of the area showed and expressed a very dramatic shot and scene. Most of the shots were focused on Vic or Danny preparing the room. The lighting of the shots showed and dramatized very simple basic scenes such as placing a cover over the window or nailing in nails to the ground to keep the bed I place, which Alice will be tied to. A lot of the shots change into mid shots, wide shots and many other shots throughout the film. I think that many of the shots in the beginning of the film show and set the environment and the entire setting of the movie. The very first scenes show and produce the Mis-en-Scene. Where many props and costumes were used throughout for the two kidnappers they both used different costumes throughout to show how professional they are they knew what they were doing and they understood the entire process well because Vic had been planning for this for years while he was in prison. The different outfits that were used were so that no evidence would come up if Alice escaped from them, no proof would be valid. I think that this process and this strategy in particular shows how much effort the characters put into this plan how much time they thought about it.

I believe that Vic’s character in particular shows how strong and confident he is because his character shows how determined and driven he is to get what he wants and in this case he wants 2 million dollars. Danny’s character is a bit more weak and scared of Vic because he is older and seems more powerful Danny enjoys being pushed around by him but at times is a little on edge and doesn’t enjoy being told what to do. There are several scenes in the film where he snaps and can’t really handle the pushing the around. One scene being where Danny says that he isn’t hungry and Vic forces him to eat something. Vic shoves food into Danny’s mouth and Danny gets upset but still feels at a weak state. One other scene where Danny feels like he should be controlled is towards the end after Alice and Vic have a conversation about how Danny really his, he’s playing for both teams. Danny’s character knows Alice because she is his girlfriend and she starts to play along with the kidnapping game in order to get money out of it, she made a deal with Danny. Alice ends up turning on Danny and tries to escape but fails when Danny knocks her out. Later on Vic and Danny have sexual encounter that shows that they are both homosexuals. Danny’s character is hard to figure out he is hard to read and at times you will never know what he is going to do. Alice’s character shows weaknesses and strengths, she is weak in the beginning when she is first kidnapped because she has no idea who the men are that kidnapped her but gets used to them and becomes stronger about herself. She breaks down when Danny puts a knife to her throat to force her to say some words to her father in a video and then is tied up again. Alice’s character then changes when Danny reveals himself to her after she has him at gunpoint. She becomes strong because now she’s confident on who one of the kidnappers is. She is actually smarter and more focused on her life rather then the deal she made with Danny to get her father’s money. She can’t really trust anyone but herself she is focused on her life and is determined to do whatever it takes to get free even if it means to betray Danny.

The dialogue in the film tells a lot about characters it gives the right amount of information that is needed in order to create the scene and to create the mood. Each character form the movie expressed themselves and proved how they really are rather it was scared yet strong like Alice or strong and confident like Vic or weak and crazy like Danny. The dialogues expressed all of their attitudes. They all presented themselves in a certain way that showed how they truly are. Several scenes had dialogue and music playing in the background to the point where they tried to make the scene more believable. One scene that expressed this was when Vic and Alice were talking about Danny and how he betrayed both of them. The music sets the scene and makes it dramatic and very tense.

There were several scenes with narration in it from one character to another between Vic and Danny you seen this a lot because Danny was always hiding something from Vic and Vic was getting curious so he checked in on him. I think that it would have been more interesting if there were some narration with Alice getting the mouth gaud off her mouth and speaking through the door to Danny and Vic it would of made the film more intense.

Throughout the movie there were many scenes where the lighting, the color of the environment was dull to set the mood of two crazy men getting what they want by taking a girl. I think that the editing was well done but I do want to recommend one scene in the beginning where the first kidnap Alice, maybe there could have been more to it. The director could have showed how she was kidnapped rather then having a fade in and fade out black. I think that the entire process of the storyline would click a little better if this one scene were to be put in the film.

I would rate this movie about 7/10 because throughout the film I saw various things I felt could have been improved or added in. One scene in the beginning, with Alice getting kidnapped could have been improved. Possibly could have added in more about Vic and how he went out to set different hints on the plan at hand. Maybe we could have seen the process through his eyes outside the doors of the apartment.

Act I- Set Up

The environment is set-up and provides close ups on the preparations on the area where the prisoner will be.

Plot Point 1:

In need of a hero Alice is in desperate need of help because she is taken hostage by two men and no one hears her plea.

Act II- Confrontation

Alice figures out one of her kidnappers, is her boyfriend Danny.

Plot Point 2:

Alice has him at gunpoint.

Act III- Resolution

Alice tells Vic about Danny and her Vic gets upset and comes up with a plan of his own to try and kill Danny but it doesn’t work because Danny escapes.

Plot Point 3:

After Danny escapes Vic escapes to the new area where they placed Alice and takes the money and tries to leave in a get away car. It doesn’t work because Danny shows up and kills Vic and leaves Alice there handcuffed and alone.

Aftermath

Alice is left in the new environment alone with Vic’s dead body next to her. Before Vic dies he passes Alice the keys so she can escape.

Plot Point 4:

Alice escapes with the money because she later walks down the road after she escapes and finds Danny dead in the car with a bag of money next to him. She is relieved she is safe, alive and free.

Student Cam Reflection - Amaris Romero

Posted by Amaris Romero on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 8:19 am
I decided to do this topic because I know I wanted to do something involving teens in high school I just didn't know what exactly it was that I wanted to do. I decided to work in a group of up to 3 students because we all wanted to do the same project involving privacy rights, the fourth amendment. I believe we are the only school in the district that does not have any metal detectors. It was interesting and we felt as a group to compare the different opinions o privacy from a school that has metal detectors and from a school that doesn't have metal detectors. It made sense for me because the fourth amendment speaks out on behalf of privacy rights and so do the students we interviewed from both schools. Overall I had a great interest in this topic because of the rights we have in our school and how independent we are.
My favorite part about this project was going to another school and interviewing the students. It was a good experience for me because I wanted to know how other students felt about their privacy rights overall. The most challenging about the interviews was the fact that a lot of the students were shy and didn't want to do the interview. We had a hard time trying to get the students to speak the first time we went out to interview. The second time we went to interview it became more interesting because many of the new students were volunteering to do the interview. It was also difficult because the principal wasn't there and we needed his opinions as well, so we just rescheduled and came back other day. The interviews I believe were the most challenging for me.
The most interesting thing I learned from this was the responses I got from the students. I learned so much on how they view privacy and how the process is for them. It takes the students about 15 minutes to get through the metal detectors, it's their process of getting into school where for us SLA students it takes about 2 seconds because we only sign in. It was interesting to see how their school life is and to see how affected the students were because of the process. The process also hasn't changed for them over the years.
I honestly don't think this project should be improved in any way except when it comes to the rubric. Maybe next time you should pass out on paper or online a rubric students can go off of during the process of the project. Other then that I don't believe anything else should be improved. I agree with the set-up and the overall process of the way the project is.
One big problem we ran into during the project was trying to interview the principal in SLA. It was difficult because at times because me and the rest of my group would get distracted and either forget to do the interview or would be to busy to do it. Also, when the time came down to us interviewing the principal we couldn't because he was busy. That was a major problem we had but we ended up interviewing another person.
The interviews with the students at both my school and at Benjamin Franklin High school went well. The process of going to the other school and being able to do the interviews with the students was great because we didn't come across any problems with the teachers or the students their. The project overall went along smoothly and well because we did have a few bumps along the process but we managed to get across and through our challenges.
If I were to do this project again I would manage my time better with the interviews from both schools. The decisions about the amendment I chose I would of possibly considered and brought up different high school privacy rights other then metal detectors and searches. I would have considered doing the topic about freedom of speech in high school and the overall views of how kids feel about it. Overall I believe we done well with the project and I would do everything else the same way I have done it now in the same process and the same decisions.
I learned a lot from this project about privacy rights and how other schools have to manage through it. How long it takes for them to go through metal detectors and how the process is. I learned that our school is the only school in the district that has no metal detectors. I also realized that our school is given a lot of freedom compared to other schools that have metal detectors and it's because our school can trust the students considering the fact that our school is an independent school.

Blog Post #4: Curfew

Posted by Amaris Romero in American Government - Laufenberg on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at 7:05 pm
I focused on one website that allows me to fight back against my city's curfew. The main point I am trying to do is make sure that society knows about the curfew law. I am trying to convince my council members in my area that curfews does cause an effect towards teens. The website I decided to work off of is basically a site that allows kids/teens to fight back against curfews laws. It also allows those who are fighting against to recognize and take more notice on the overall constitutional issues. I decided to apply to this membership in order to take action of curfew laws.

First I applied for membership and now have my own profile which, helps me promote my lobbying case on curfews.

Screen Shot 2011-12-20 at 7.50.01 PM
Screen Shot 2011-12-20 at 7.50.01 PM
Next the site provides different forums and discussion from kids all over who disagree with the curfew law as well in their city. From this I will be able to spread out to kids how we can help convince council members in our community I will be able to post and create my own forums where I will be able to add people in and I will be able to promote it on Twitter or Facebook any social networking site that teens use. I will be able to become apart of the issues and join different forums and discussion.

I plan to create a forum and allow all to join and allow them to share their opinions on curfews. I will be asking their support to assist me in this overall lobbying topic about curfew and having them help me write a letter to my representative about our overall opinions of curfew. We will be trying to convince them about all the positives on the curfew law. How much of an impact it has on us and what it is we are willing to give. I will introduce them to the forum so they will be able to see the overall thoughts of kids from all over. I will send them the post over email in order to get their attention.

Marriage Application

Posted by Amaris Romero in American Government - Laufenberg on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 6:51 pm
MarriageAppliction-1
Click Here to view the Marriage Application Flow Chart online.

Reflection:
For the project that was assigned to us, John and I decided to research the process of the marriage application. We really went deep into the research and provided all of the steps that are required for the marriage application. We chose to have a person explore throughout the flow chart the entire process and all the steps that are needed. We explained what would happen if you were a minor from the ages of 15-17 or younger. We explained the overall process on what it is exactly that you need in order to get married. Who are the people that need to be involved what kind of documents that are needed. We made sure all the very important facts about the process were given such as the "stop" signs we put in between. We put the "stop" signs in order to aware the reader of the little important things that MUST be acknowledged.

The process was very simple I believe because we only used one website which provided us with all the information all the steps that is required for a marriage license. The more complicated part for us was actually printing out a PDF form of the marriage license. We couldn't find no Marriage form for marriage in the Philadelphia county because in order to get an actual form we would have to pay $80 and we would have to be go down to city hall and request a form. We ended up downloading a Bucks county form of the marriage license and just used the steps that Philadelphia would use for the marriage process.

The paper work, the marriage license form (downloaded) was very simple and easy to complete. We each filled out one side of the form the "Female's statement" and the "Male's statement" we decided to create two different people with very different backgrounds and from their we finished the form process. We also had to write in BLACK pen otherwise the form wouldn't be accounted for.
If I were to change one thing about this flow chart, honestly I wouldn't change anything because I feel as though it gets to the point, it's informative, I DON'T believe that it's BORING and I believe we provided everything that was needed. I feel like the overall product came out well done. :)

I believe that the systems became so complicated for the Marriage application process because they want to be very sure and up to date on what it is that people are doing and who they are getting married to. I believe that they just want to be aware just in case they plan to marry again in the same state while they are already married. I also thing that it's to keep all of their documents in the systems just in case anything were to happen to those who are getting married.
Overall I think this project is well though out and well managed and organized.

Blog Post #3: Curfew

Posted by Amaris Romero in American Government - Laufenberg on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 12:11 pm
Only one person from the council didn't approve of the "Curfew" law all of the other council members signed and approved for it. There is support coming from all over the city to back up the "curfew" in a way where they don't approve. When the law was being decided there were signs up stating "Shame ! shame!" That the kids aren't the problem. One woman from the protests against the "Curfew Law" stated, "The kids are not the problem." Jim Lynam is also another person who isn't't in support of the curfew. He states that, "I never had curfews with my kids."

curfewimg00708-20111027-1252
curfewimg00708-20111027-1252
The media is giving into this very much because the people of the city are in support of the law but are also aren't in support. The main focus for the law is to keep kids off of the streets and into well managed areas during a right time. I also believe that the news in particular is really looking into this case because now the law is "more restrictive." Not many people are into the law which, is why the people still have a say in this.

no-curfew-85262389
no-curfew-85262389
The main opponent in this Law is Mayor Nutter. "There comes a point, whether in the neighborhood or anywhere else, where they basically should either be home or in the care and custody of their parent or guardian.” Mayor Nutter is of great power he is one the most powerful people in the city because he's the mayor. He is the one who believes that teens should be inside by a certain time because of all the trouble that occurs during the night such as "flashmobs." I don't believe that there are any policies regarding the support of no "Curfew" there are many policies regarding the curfew law though. I believe that I would nee to work with someone of great power in order to make this non curfew a policy.
220px-Michael_Nutter
220px-Michael_Nutter
One main stakeholder would be the national youth rights association organization. This organization allows a teen who is oppose of the curfew law to help make a campaign and support and advertise all over their city or state. "Fight Back Against your City's Curfew." I believe that the ones who definitely help support the non-curfew policy would definitely be the one council member who didn't approve of the law in the first place. I believe that this council member would be of great assistance. If I got this one council member to approve of doing a policy or anti-curfew than from there we would be able to move decisions and opinions in a way where the public is aware of the actions that we are making and to also consider other council members to change there mind as well. Sponsoring, convincing  and advertising is all we really need because overall we have a pretty good idea and feel of the overall topic at hand. Everyone has their own opinion.
nyra_logo_220x109
nyra_logo_220x109
The one council member, the organization, those who are in support of no curfew and the public as well. I believe that with the support of all these people also incorporating the support of those who are popular in sports such as Jim Lynam where he can help get the people of the city aware of this. If he gets the "word out" meaning speaks out on this then the people who are for the curfew might have a different view on this topic.
I can influence the people and those of great power such as the mayor to notice what we are trying to do. The entirety of the entire curfew law process has already reached it end basically the law is set and already in progress. There are no deadlines or meetings here right now.

National Meat Association vs. Harris

Posted by Amaris Romero in American Government - Laufenberg on Monday, November 14, 2011 at 11:55 am
pigs-downer-slaughter
pigs-downer-slaughter

Constitutional question:

The constitutional question here is determining or not if the Federal meat Inspection Act, which basically allows slaughterhouses to keep animals that can’t walk for observation, for evidence of disease, does this prevent a state law that determines animals like that to be immediately killed.

“Whether the Federal Meat Inspection Act which requires slaughterhouses to hold animals that become unable to walk for observation for evidence of disease preempts a state law that requires such animals to be immediately killed.”

“Is a California law requiring slaughterhouses to "immediately euthanize" any nonambulatory animal on its premises preempted by the Federal Meat Inspection Act?”

Facts of the case:

·      The Federal meat Inspection Act is basically an act that is concerned about animals that are going to become meat.

·      Slaughterhouses in California.

·      California made there own rules which is basically allowing them to handle or take care of or observe animals that cannot walk.

·      The right to purchase animals like any type of receipts was also banned in California.

·      Can’t sell meat if the animal was originally with the swine that didn’t allow it to walk.

·      The animals that can’t walk are caused by transportation.

·      220,000 swine die during transportation

·      440,000 become unable to walk during transportation.

·      Are animals suitable to turn into meat?

·      Inspections?

·      Humane treatment to animals that can’t walk. Do whatever they want to the animal.

Summary of the Arguments before the SCOTUS:

The argument before SCOTUS appears argues and states the overall points of the case. Mr. Wells, on behalf of the petitioner, states the rules that the California slaughterhouses have given themselves, which is basically handling animals that cannot walk. The case here is argued among Steven J. Wells, Justice Scalia, Justice Kagan, Justice Sotomayor and Justice Alito. One main thing that has come to their attention is the point in which California has banned all receipts for animals. Therefore not allowing any evidence of a purchase from an animal. The situation ended up leading to another case, which involved meat sales, receipts of purchase and such. Meat sales happens to be one of the main steps involved in the process of the slaughterhouse argues one person. Human treatment and food safety are other points made here. How is it that people could sit and sell food yet not knowing much about the health of the animal, this here can lead to health issues among people who buy the meat. The main focus now is the fact as to, why animals are unable to walk, which could be from transportation to the slaughterhouses and could be from the swine disease in, which the animals carry. There were multiple points brought up but the main one had to do with the process in, which animals become unable to walk.

Predictions on the outcome:

I am not sure what to thin actually I mean I completely disagree with the slaughterhouses in California and their rules. I believe they are the ones who will lose the case because of cruelty. Well not exactly cruelty to animals but the point as to, where they are handling and dealing with animals that can’t walk in the way they want to handle them.

Indian Civil Rights Act 1968

Reflection:

Originally I had chosen to do a different law but I had changed it because I wasn't as interested in it as I thought. I decided to do the "Indian Civil Rights Act" because I wanted to know more about them. I always had an interest in Native Americans. Every year I write about or talk about something that involves Native Americans and I wanted to know, I felt as though I didn't know enough. I chose the Prezi format because I felt it was one of many simple ways to create a story format. I came across many challenges while doing research, one of them being not being able to find the right answers for the questions that was being asked. I had another problem where I didn't know how to format the work in a presentation. I didn't know how to work Prezi I had never used it before. I got a hang of it after I had a brief tutorial of it. In the end I decided to do it like a story book with a table of contents, chapters, index, and glossary. The way a book would be setup. If i were to do this project again I would make my prezi a little less wordy because I wrote a bit to much information and not everyone wants to read a presentation when it resembles a book. Thats BORING, so next time I will make sure it is less wordy. I noticed that the project and the entire process doesn't just take 1 week or 2 weeks it takes time. Especially when it has to go through stages in which people have to agree with it. The entire research process was simple to me because I knew about it all and I knew how it would all turn out to be or so I thought. After my researching of the law I realized I didn't know to much about it all I knew that I would have to dig a bit for certain things such as those who were involved in the process. I found this BM very useful to me because of my interest in Native Americans.

Blog post #2: Curfew Representative

I am still against curfew, I'm represented by Maria D. Quinones-Sanchez from the 7th district. She represents the 7th district, she is known as the first Latina to serve in the Philadelphia city council. I am going to figure out her thoughts on my lobbying topic, curfew. She was born November 12 in Philadelphia, PA. She is married with 2 kids. She has been in office since 2008 till 2012. She had a high of, 80% of votes November 6 of 2007. She was guaranteed a 4 year term. There are many things that she is known for she is a member of multiple committees. Such as;
Education
Ethics
Appropriations
and many more
She is also chair committee of license and inspections. She is involved with so much especially when it comes o the public she is involved in such as
Housing and Homeless
Labor and Civil Service
Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs
Public Health and Human Services
She is involved with many things especially if ti involves the public.
In the past "Cyber Action" has completely disagreed with the curfew law that was set. This group in particular is basically setting a goal making sure everyone in the community is trying to get the council members to not agree with the law at stake about curfew. It seems as though council woman Maria D. Quinones-Sanchez was agreeing with the law that was being made about curfew. I believe that she is for the curfews and that she is not about to stand down in any way to make the curfew law, out. The city council states that the voting recently had been 15-1 meaning only one person voted against the curfew law. "It’s a bad bill,” Blackwell said. “It won’t work.”

It's ironic how she is Latina and I am also. Yet I feel we have nothing in common. I noticed she had done some pretty outstanding things in her time such as; focus on education throughout the city, focus on crime and public safety etc; her accomplishments are in a way similar to my community service. I help around the neighborhood and volunteer at the PSPCA. We both have a connection where we both interact with the community in a positive way.
A little more about Maria D. Quinones-Sanchez:
- She is from the 7th district
-  The youngest in city council
-  Known for her reduced crime rates
-  Known for her increase in economic opportunity
-  Known for outstanding achievements
-  Made history November 2007 by having 80% of votes and being Latina

Lobbying To Change Curfews in Philadelphia

I am lobbying to change the "Curfews" in Philadelphia that mayor Nutter has given. I know that there are many kids all around who don't support Mayor Nutter's opinion inn the curfews. I know that he did it for a good cause it's to avoid and try to protect teenagers from "Flash mobs." The issue that I want to change is the curfews rules. I think it would be better if Mayor Nutter had the ages vary and have the times vary based on age. Mayor Nutter has minors going inside at 9:00 on weekends. WHat if some kids have to work? What then? Not everybody agrees with the situation at hand. His main reason was because of "Flash Mobs" no? Was it a bad thing what he did? I say yes but it was for a good cause but several of the "flash mobs" have not been solved, this situation might have gotten worse.
I think that this change will be able to help elders witness and be able to see how much responsibility and leadership teenagers have. I am interested in this topic because there has been so much change in our generation and I think that one of the changes is the maturity rate in teens over the years. There is an article about a teen mom asking a question about how she knows if her teen is able to make their own decisions especially when it comes to curfews.
I believe that the main supporters are minors who must be inside their home at 9:00. There are teens who feel as if they don't get to express themselves they need a voice, they need someone to speak for them someone who is in support of them. The main opponent is Mayor Nutter because he is fully against minors being out past 9:00 on weekends. His view on it I believe is protectiveness but if he gave teenagers a bit more freedom teens will be able to show how responsible they are. It is also that fact that teens need freedom in order to develop although teens maturity rate levels vary depending on the teens.
I would love to here teens opinions. "Freedom of speech" they have the right to speak what is on their mind they have to opportunity to be heard. it seems as though teens aren't stepping up to plate and letting others hear them out.

Guitar
Sound is produced by the vibrations of the strings. The thicker the string the stronger the pitch. The energy that's being transferred from the strings cause a vibration throughout and creates sound waves. I'm changing the pitch by changing the strings by using smaller ones thin ones an thicker ones they all have a different type of pitch whether its high or low or average. The most important physical characteristic in my instrument is the strings which creates the sounds. I will be using the strings or rubber bands to help create the sound overall and I will be using wood possible and some tuning tools to help keep the strings in place and altogether. I will play my instrument using my fingers or a pick to pluck at the strings. I plan on using my class time effectively too help design my instrument and I plan to use outside time as well to help me as well.

Guitar

You play the guitar by using a pick or your fingers. It basically consist of strings and your just plucking them with the pick or your fingers. When the string is plucked from the guitar the string vibrates and it causes a sound wave. The sound waves move down the guitar till it hits the guitar's bridge which is basically where the stings are attached, and from the there the top vibrates, from there the inside of the guitar, the walls bounce out and from there creates a note from the sound waves.
When you change the note of a guitar you change the position of where you fingers and the pick originally are at, at that moment. You have to pluck different strings in order to change the note. The guitar is shaped like a spatula in a way. It is shaped that way because the strings which are towards the top in flat like a handle and starts to get thicker towards the bottom and to me it seems and looks like a spatula in a way. I can create sound by applying vibrations when I pluck the string and from there is causes sound waves and creates a note. You can change the sound by plucking a different string. I feel like energy is being released and from there the vibration moves and forms sound waves.I pretty much knew all of this and knew it would occur this way.
