The understanding I had while reading this essay is that helping someone almost never costs you more than what you get back for doing good. Not saying that you should expect something for being kind, but when you show kindness to people, you are met with kindness. I also really liked your writing style because you reflected a whole lot, while also giving a lot of backstory.
