Journal 14 (Q4 English BM)
This was a journal response to the question "How do you feel about seeing the word nigger in a book/ anywhere?" we were reading "Kindred" and the word popped up a few times. I suppose a few people were offended but I wasn't and I'm African American.

As long as the word nigger is being used in an educational sense, I’m fine with it. Because if anything, the word nigger doesn’t apply to me. SO when I saw it last night, it was just another word. I’m past the whole racism thing and I refuse to get upset over the ignorance of others.

If my skin color doesn’t define who I am, then some word definitely won’t. And further more I don’t think it is ok when people change the ending er and put an a. It means the same thing. Anyways, I refuse to get upset about something that doesn’t apply to me. I’m a human not a nigger.
