Alan Li Capstone

For my capstone, I wanted to see what it is like to be a video game developer. In order for me to create a working video game in a shorter amount of time, I used an existing video game engine called Unreal Engine instead of programming a new one. Initially, when I started my project, I asked Mr. Hernandez for feedback on what my game should be about since I was not sure what I want my game to be like. Ultimately, I decided to create an open-world game that would allow the user to travel in a three-dimensional map. To create a game that would appeal to a broad audience, I decided to get feedback from people who have different interests from each other. While the feedback helped me get ideas for what the content of my game should be, I had difficulties implementing all of the mechanics I wanted to create due to the differences in how Unreal Engine performs tasks and commands under C++ compared to how other programming languages work like Java. From this experience, I was able to get a better understanding of why cooperation is important in regards to video game development through the feedback I received. Although I mainly worked by myself in regards to creating the game that did not have as much content as I initially hoped for, I was able to get a better comprehension of why video games tend to undergo long periods of development before they are released.
