Monologue #1
Act 1. Scene 1.

INT., STATE DEPARTMENT OFFICE - DAY

Our main character, CALEB, is sitting at his desk. He’s talking on the telephone.

He’s writing and typing away, busy at work. There are two phones on the opposite sides of his desk. He works and works for a few moments, until one of his phones begins to ring. He picks it up and answers.

CALEB
Hello. Assistant Secretary Caleb Marcs speaking (pauses) Umm, uh, no. I’m not too busy (pauses).

He puts his pen down and focuses on the phone call.

CALEB (cont’d)
(laughs) Yeah, yeah, it’s-it’s crazy here. The recession is, uh, it’s really getting to us (pauses) Well, uh, well yeah. (pauses) No, no, here in the State Department we’re, uh, we’re completely topped. Funding’s gone heywire (pauses) What, huh? No, no, I, uh, I don’t watch the news anymore (pauses) Well, uh, I don’t watch the news that much anymore (pauses) Why? Because all I get is FOX News now (pauses) No, no, I just watch Jon Stewart for all of that (pauses) Wait, huh? What story? About what? (pauses) Ok, ok, I’ll, uh, I’ll read the report online.

He puts the phone on his desk, not hanging it up. He pulls out a laptop and types for some moments. After a while, he picks up the phone again, his voice fearful.

CALEB (cont’d)
Is any of this stuff accurate? (pauses) Well is it!? (pauses) No, no. I’m sorry. I just have to be sure. (pauses) This can’t be true. Do you know what this would mean if this was true? (pauses) Yes, yes, I uh, understand. (pauses) I understand. Thanks for the call.

He hangs up the phone. He walks over to the front of his desk and sits down. He sighs.

CALEB (cont’d)
This can’t be true.

END OF MONOLOGUE.

Monologue #2
Act 1. Scene 2

INT., STATE DEPARTMENT OFFICE - DAY

CALEB is in his office again. There are papers everywhere. On the ground, all over his desk. There is a stack of papers that are holding up one of his phones. The phones continue to ring off the hook. He walks in from stage left, with his coat on, coffee in one hand, and a briefcase in the other, making it clear that he just came in for the day. He hears the two phones ringing and looks at them for a moment.

CALEB
Meh.

He ignores both phones. He takes off his coat, and sits at his desk. After a while, he becomes so annoyed with his phones that he unplugs both of them. He sits and his desk and writes at his desk for some moments. As he works, his phone vibrates in his pocket, he pulls it out of his Blackberry out of his pocket. He doesn’t even bother to look at the screen.

CALEB (cont’d)
A Blackberry call is a work call.

He doesn’t hesitate to promptly throw his phone into his wastebasket. He gets back to silent work for some moments. After a while, another phone vibrates in his pocket. He pulls this phone out quickly and worriedly.

CALEB (cont’d)
But an iPhone call is important.

CALEB pulls out the phone and talks to his wife.

CALEB (cont’d)
Hey, honey. (pauses) Yeah, I’m at work. (pauses) I know, I know. (pauses) Listen, listen. I understand why you’re angry. (pauses) Listen, listen, please listen to me. I’m sorry, ok? I’m sorry from keeping that from you. (pauses) Why? Why? I don’t know why. I can’t understand why. I honestly don’t know why I lied to you. (pauses) All I can tell you is that I’m sorry.

END OF MONOLOGUE.

Monologue #3
Act 1. Scene 3.

INT., THE MARCS’ HOME - DAY

MICHELLE Marcs, CALEB’s wife, is in their home. She is in the living room of their home, which is messy. She is dressed in pajamas, somewhat sloppily. She is eating cereal from the box while sitting on her sofa, watching TV. The phone rings, and she has to look for it for a few moments. She finds it after a while, and she answers the phone.

MICHELLE
Hello? (pauses) Oh, hi mother. (pauses) No, no, I’m not dressed yet. (pauses) Well it’s only (looks at a clock next to her) 11 o’clock? Jesus. (pauses) Oh well I lost track of time, mother! (pauses) Oh, well he left for work already. (pauses) Well, uh, not quite. Actually, do you have a minute to talk? (pauses) Yes, well, it’s been pretty tough for the country lately, you know, and a lot of people are out of work and losing jobs because of the economy. (pauses) Well it turns out a lot of people are dying, too. (pauses) This economy is affecting human rights all over the world. (pauses)  Well with no money, mom, the government can’t afford all of the foreign programs and things like that, a lot of which actually keep people alive. (pauses) Oh, that’s terrible, isn’t it? (pauses) Oh, he’s distraught. Absolutely distraught. He’s, he’s really getting into this. (pauses) Well, that’s the thing, mother. He’s getting a little too into this. (pauses) Well I’m afraid he’s begun to take matters into his own hands.

END OF MONOLOGUE.

Monologue #4
Act 1. Scene 4.

INT., STATE DEPARTMENT OFFICE - DAY

CALEB walks into his office. He leaves the door open, he is yelling out of it.

CALEB
And you tell him, Dan, that if goes through, it’ll be your ass that suffers for it! (pauses) Yeah, that’s right, your ass!

He firmly closes the door. He walks over to his desk, but before he’s able to sit down, he receives a call.

CALEB (cont’d)
Assistant Secretary speaking. (pauses) Yes, may I, uh, may I inquire whose calling? (pauses) Oh, oh, great, great. How’s it going, Tim? (pauses) Good, good, that’s great. (pauses) Now, uh, now listen. This is very important and I don’t want this message to be forgotten. (pauses) Also, I would like all of this to remain between you, I, and any third party I may bring in in the future. (pauses) No, no, Tim. Rest assured that we will be doing nothing against the law, or too against the law, rather. It’s just too sensitive of information to be common knowledge. (pauses) Ok, ok, now listen up. I don’t quite know you well, but I am a good judge of character, and I can only assume and hope that you are not a cold-hearted man. (pauses) Oh, well I guessed right. (pauses) Now, thousands of people are dying now, so there needs to be no slip ups.

END OF MONOLOGUE.

Monologue #5
Act 1. Scene 5.

INT., TIMOTHY GREY’S OFFICE - DAY

TIMOTHY Grey is our new character. He is a member of the executive branch of government. Working in the confides of the White House, he holds important power. Timothy walks into his office, a stark contrast of CALEB’s as it’s much larger and tidier. He also has an assistant, who does not speak.

TIMOTHY
It appears that Mr. Marcs knows a bit more than he should, unfortunately. If he thinks he can change the world, he’s sadly mistaken. Now surely, I’m not happy about what’s going on, but what can I do? I’m just one man, but furthermore, a man who knows his appropriate place in
society.

TIMOTHY pauses, as he sits at his desk. He swiftly rests his feet on his desk surface, looking calm and confident.

TIMOTHY (cont’d)
Mr. Marcs. Caleb, Marcs. A very foolish man indeed.

He looks down at his desk, in which his phone is resting, and notices a call.

TIMOTHY (cont’d)
Ah, (looks at his phone), it appears it that’s Mr. Marcs now. (TIMOTHY answers his phone) Mr. Marcs, how are you? (pauses) No, no, not yet, there are many things we have to do before we get to that point, Mr. Marcs. (pauses) It would suppose so, now wouldn’t it? (pauses)

Losing Hope.!

Posted by Jennifer Landham in World History - Block on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at 11:59 am

So this project is mainly about modernization. The issue with people these days is that we believe if a place doesn't have wifi or the latest iPhone that we need to fix them and make them like us. A place that modernization hit hard is Ladakh. Ladakh was once this peaceful place that kept quiet and away from the outside world in Tibet, but then we moved ourselves in. Except for making it better we made their little place worse and worse… So thats practically my project.

Ablae Angmo- Is a man around the age of 32, he is against the westernization, km he is a very confused man and loves to allow his points to get through to everyone that he believes matter and why he thinks everyone should follow his lead. He is about 5’4” and he wears only hand made clothes, which his wife Reni has made. He lives far from the Ladakh now culture. He walks miles away form his home to go get some clean water. He is frustrated, very angry, and finding a lot of things funny

Francis Angmo- His Wife- A quiet woman, very soft spoken. Doesn’t agree with her husband at all. She believes he is just going through a mid life crisis and just hates change. The move is driving her family apart.

Taylor Angmo- His Daughter- Frustrated at her parents that she had to lose all of her friends and move away. She is a loud mouth back talking teenager. Westernization started changing her as well as Ladakh. She is 17 and when she turns 18(soon) she plans to run away from her father’s rules. She argues with her father constantly and completely ignores her mother

Damian Angmo- His Son- Quiet seven-year-old child. Very respectable but very curious. He is not as spoiled as his older sister, he’s confused about the move but doesn’t say much to the family. He keeps to himself in a little room in their current home.

Jacob Angmo- His Brother- Ablaes older brother; Very strict and is not accepting westernization. He is not a stubborn as his little brother he’d rather

Sunset Angmo- His wifes sister-

Act I Scene I

Ablae Angmo

(Ablae is pacing outside and he seems ticked off about something. He’s acting like he is doing something productive but really he is not. He secretly is watching his wife making sure that she is fine and keeping watch outside for no outsiders. Then a camera crew comes up, asking him questions.)

(Beginning)

Yeah, I believe I can talk to someone... How personal is this going to get... Well I'm not willing get personal... my opinion.. Yeah of course I can share that... I don’t understand why every time something happens they believe we need the fixing.. Fixing what, what’s wrong with the way we chose to live our lives.. We were pure and educated the way we were... Explain?... See when we first started out Ladakh was the most beautiful place ever. No one and I mean no one threw trash anywhere. The water was purified and clean. The land oh was it so clean... The dirt we could eat our food off of it... When i lived there I was your regular Ladakh farmer... A wife, children, beautiful home, nothing would've been better then this... When people in other country thought of our Ladakh as a undeveloped place which all children lived in rags and such is when westernization started taking place... In my eyes westernization is the change of my world and my cultures world into something so horrid the gods probably turned their heads and no longer look down upon us.  First, came the people, lined one by one like we were a circus. Then came the workers the builders, then after they started coming is when we started… well I started packing.. Stay? Why would I stay there… they meant to make us better?… if ruining the way people do everything and polluting our land is called making us better then yes they made us very better… I'm not stubborn… I don't understand what they're doing… no I don’t really know any background from what there doing.. I know they came out of nowhere...but... know what you just don't understand me!… I think this interview is over.. Good-bye to you

            Act I Scene II

Francis Angmo

(Wife is sitting in a chair with a handful of laundry. She is humming a beautiful song while folding clothes.)

He’s such a reactive person.. I loved Ladakh, a place of fun and family... Yeah I agree with that we were different before they came... Transportation and people too... No not all are bad things, well not all of the things... Of course I still want to go back, it’s so quiet out here at night and I dearly miss my family... Well the move really wasn’t my choice.. He’s the man.. Well in my culture we follow what the males orders are.. Yeah, there the leaders of the pack, when he dies Damian will be the leader... I just wish things would go back to where they were I want to go home...it effects me because no one has been the same since after the move.. All the kids changed.. They don't even talk to us anymore... Forgiveness?... They don’t want to forgive us.. No I don’t think it was I... Yeah.... My husband... He’s real stubborn.. He never lets our family have fun anymore... He’s so different now... He thinks were going to turn on him and leave... I don’t understand... Yeah well … I don’t think... No why would you... well good he needs to know what was said.. I personally think westernization isn’t that bad.. I talk to my sister... through mail.. We talk about all the changes.. They’re waiting for us to come on back home

Act I Scene III

                                                Damian Angmo

(Sitting in his room alone, little Damian no older then seven. He’s playing with some kind of doll singing quietly to himself sitting on the floor. He notices the door creak open he drops his stuff and slowly turns around, almost frightened)

..He..Hello... my name’s Damian.. Ye..yeah .. Nice to meet you... may I ask why your here... oh int....

(sounds it out)

in-ter- view.. Okay.. I’m fine with it... old?. I.. I’m not old... oh my age seven in two eighths.. Yeah I’ll be eight soon.. How “ool..ld” are you.. That’s pretty old Mr... I don’t think... oh why am I here?.... I don’t feel comfortable...around...them..They...aren’t the same... my dads always grumpy.. Tayy doesn’t play any games anymore.. We use to play everything... tag, duck duck goose, hide and go seek... We use to play at this park type of thing..Well mines were really nice..We lived around a lot of family friends and stuff... I do miss my old home..i didn’t have that many friends... they all thought i was weird.. i’m not that talkative... i just..get nervous around big crowds... i’m afraid they might hurt me.. or judge me... no i’m not self con-sc-i-ence... my mom said it meant confident... confidence is like liking yourself a lot... it’s not.. oh, that’s cool i guess... mothers been stressed... she’s worried about my father..westernization just changed the whole town...we were independent but then the people came and yeah..

(mother calls him to dinner)

I’m sorrry.. I have to go eat, but we’ll finish talking some other time

            Act I Scene IIII

Taylor Angmo

(Taylor is dancing in her room to this new song that her friend had told her about, she seems like an outgoing nice person until she hears a knock on her door. Her whole demeanor changes and she goes to looking annoyed and starts to turn a light red color. She answers her door and notices it is not anyone from her family then her mood changes back to that nice, outgoing way.)

Hello

(She says with a smile)

I’m Taylor and you guys are?.. Nice to meet you.. Interview? Sure, I wouldn’t mind that at all... I’m Seventeen.. Weeellllll I love Ladakh... Yup, born and raised

(she grins with pride)

My mother tells me westernization is to help our beautiful Ladakh, my father thinks other wise.. He thinks that westernization is something to ruin Ladakh. He thinks the people are messing up our pride lands and angering our gods. I think other wise, i think westernization is adding more fun to our plan old boring Ladakh. Yeah i loved it there but i always wanted more. I had always wanted that extra push, something to keep us in contact with the outside world... Well we were “isolated” but come on you hear things people travel sometimes people write to other people... We were modern but not as “modern” that everyone else in the world was..  I love when i see Ladakh now, they have eevveerryytthhiinngg!... No, Where’s America?.. Wow that’s pretty far... Nope i never seen or heard anything about them.. Wow really?.. All day shopping and no curfew?? i would love that so much!

(At  part since Taylor only has a few months to count as a child in America the interviewers are trying to persuade her to go back with them after they leave their voyage through the culture of Ladakh).

I don’t think my parents would let me go that far... In Ladakh we all stay close to our families... Yeah even through marriage, I know that is a lot... well I dont mind my culture its just I need more to make me feel complete...my family is annoying now..its like she agrees with his choice...she would say that...damian? Hes fine I guess...i dont really find time for him anymore...I've just been really pissed...at night... yeah, sometimes I sneak out go back to Ladakh...all my friends are there... i just wanted to see them.. When i go there they catch me up on the news.. Yeah like whats new, what’s in style and things like that..  if my parents found out they would probably be really angry... yeah, i bet my dad would be on ground duty more, he probably would watch everything i do at every time of the day... My dads getting old, he wont be able to walk soon. He’s already having problems walking now... I figure that after a while he’ll just give up and let us do what ever we want... I think my family should be out of the eating area by now.. yeah, i’m really hungry.. would you guys like something to eat i’ll bring you something... no? okay well i’m going to sneak some food, are you guys staying?.. okay i’ll show you guys out i guess

(walks towards the front of the home and lets the visitors out)

 Bye you guys

(she smiles then walks away)

(After Visitors Leave)

            Hopefully no one finds out what i told them. I think i said too much. That was so stupid, what if they go and tell my father what i said. I would really be in big trouble. When they asked me to go with them to this America place i was the most terrified. Isn’t against some law that they cant offer to take people from their homes. That whole conversation got me really lost. ;

Act II Scene I

Ablae Angmo

(Ablae is ranting because he has just found that Taylor has eaten again after the family has been off to bed. In Ablae’s house he had clearly stated that they eat as a family or they do not eat at all, and Taylor broken this rule. This is not the first time, but it is the first time Ablae is going to settle this problem.)

She’s been here, i know she had to been. Nothing seems to be in place now; she snuck our food again too didn’t she. I’m getting sick and tired of her and her restraint against the house rules. I need to protect my family and she is going against everything that will help her grow and prosper to a great and intelligent young woman. I need to set a limit and it stops here. Going to her and telling her what’s going to happen is the biggest way and thing that is going to effect the way this relationship is going.

YOU OUTSIDE NOW!... I’m done with your resistance.. I am your father.. i am the leader of the pack and you you are not... you are last one the list.. It’s me, Damian, Your mother, Then you all the way at the end.. This means we rule over you.. I’m not going to take no more of you.. You will follow my rules or there will be dire consequences.. Remember that story of Chumur gonpa.... okay... Let’s start over.. sit.. lets meditate..

(They both sit on the ground in front of each other cross their legs then start)

hmmmmmmm....uhmmmmmm...hmmmmmmm...uhmmmmm......you know me and your mother love you, if not we do. The rules i made were we all eat together pray together and sleep at the same time. I do not mean to push it, because i know you are upset with me, but i want you guys to be raised as i had been. Pure, i wanted you guys to be complete Ladakh born and raised children.. I wanted your brother to get married off, i wanted you to get married off... Yes, i know you could have had a chance to but your whole perspective of Ladakh would've changed too.. I did not want that to happen. Your my child and as my child you were a gift to me from Leh, you are here for me to protect you until you blossom to protect your self.. Ladakh is a dangerous place for you in my eyes now, i do not think that it would be a safe choice to allow you to do that... If you promise to stay safe and my pure little girl then yes you may, but you must ask your mother, you was her gift also.. Night.

            Act II Scene II

                                                             Damian Angmo

(Damian starts off, he is kind of having a little panic attack. His father isn’t aware of it but damian hears everything he says to his sister. He’s terrified and believes that it couldn’t get any worse then how its going.)

Ahh.. I don’t like this.. I don’t like this at all… Why is daddy yelling… I don’t like when my family is so angry, anger is scary and it makes the gods angry and upset because we are not being positive... Daddy hasn’t been the perfect Ladakhen, he has been really controlling over the whole family and his positivity and gracefulness had lowered down to close to nothing.. Well damian i guess all you have is you. Just like the loners I always hear about. Maybe if you can get the family together one by one you could make happy with everyone.i should start easy like Taylor, then mommy, last daddy..

(Damian breaks out into tears)

I don’t know how i’m going to do this...

                                    Ablae Angmo

(Change of character. Ablae has finally made up his mind. His family would be better and cooperate together more. He calls everyone into the prayer room)

Everyone come in here. We’ve been discussing this for awhile and i believe well we believe, maybe we should go back to Ladakh just for awhile. This may confuse you but the move had effected everyone. I think maybe it would be good for our family if we had left and moved back to Ladakh. As a whole we are separate, since i made the choice to leave Ladakh. So now we’ll take that same path we walked to get away form the real world and walked right back into it.

(The family stops and stares)

Yes i am serious... Yes back to our old home. Everyone get all the stuff packed and get ready to leave..Yes Taylor Seriously

                        Act III Scene I

                        Sunset Angmo

(The Angmo Family is moving back to Ladakh. While on their way there, the other half had already heard the good news(due to the interview crew and Taylor keeping in touch with them) This is Sunset.)

Oh dear i gotta get everything clean. I can not wait until they come home. I miss them dearly. When they come here i’m going to tell them everything that has been going on from the point they left till they got here.

Yes.. of course i’m getting their home ready for them to come on back home.. Its pretty bad, its been inhabited for a while.... Well it seems like some of the animals have gotten into here too..it is... Not real bad but bad enough.. get the kids we may need extra hands..

(The other side of the family take exactly 3 days to clean the whole home, and get the Angmo family ready for take off with a full  fill of food and clean water to drink. On the way home the Angmo family is full of smiles hugs and happiness. Even though the family has been okay out of Ladakh they are determined that now moving back to Ladakh will bring on a new life with a good change. After this point it will just be kind of like a summary of what happens in the family’s life when and after they return to Ladakh.- When the family arrives, all the people in Ladakh come to visit them. Everyone is happy and the family is pretty much sure that Ladakh didn’t change as much. No one in the community tells them about the water problem, they just think the water trucks are because they found more pure water, which they can drink from. After a few months, the family has gotten well acquainted.)

Act III Scene II

                                                Damian Angmo

(It’s around sunrise Damians’ a little late from waking up, he washes his face with some water then heads to get something to eat. After eating Damian goes straight outside with all of his friends.)

Mom, im leaving now. I know sunsets and im late.....I’ll be on time this time... pprroommissee..

(5 minutes later)

Hey you guys.. Where are we off to today... oh that’s cool, cause I haven’t been there since when I was younger

(A few minutes after walking. All the kids around him had these water drinking canisters, Damian always figured it was just because it was a new trend or something. Where they were playing was the same place Damian and his sister use to go as a child. )

 Lets play tag..

(A few hours pass)

Thirtsyyy

(Damian goes to the stream which he drunk out of as a child.)

(takes a sip.)

 ahhhh water,

(takes another and starts to feel ill)

I need more water I think I'm still thirsty.

(takes another sip)

(Moans)

Maybe I'm hung

 (Throws up)

I think I want to go home now

(Him and his friends exit stage, for him to come in through a door)

 Mommy I don’t feel so

(Throws up again)

Act II Scene I

                                               Francis Angmo

When we first arrived here I thought everything was going to be just fine. Then this happens. Maybe Ablae was right after all. Maybe my family should’ve just stayed where we had stayed for these past months. When push comes to shove family comes first. But when shove came in front of push my little Damian could’ve had a better future then what’s happening to him now. I wish I could just go back in time and find out just what happen between the time I let him go out with his friends and now. I just feel so careless and stupid for letting my child go out there alone with just his friends. I feel as if I should’ve sent Taylor to go look after her younger brother maybe just maybe I should’ve thought twice about my choices. Its just all my fault he’s lie this now.. Just my fault

(After two weeks he gets worse and worse. His family takes him to the place of prayer, which they all pray for his health. The next day Damian had died.. ):  The family is really sad and regrets coming back to Ladakh. The whole story behind this is Westernization may be good for you but Ladakh is surviving off of everything that you leave them with, and their living with exactly what you leave them with your trash and pollution. Westernization is ruining places like this so that people can have what they have, which they aren’t they’re changing what they had. Stop Westernization and save children like Damian. )

Edgar
Jackie
Undercover Cop
Rosie
Fat man

Act 1 Scene 1
I opened my eyes and rolled over to the side of the bed and made a disgusted face, the apartment was dirty, my hands felt clammy, my hair was sticking to the sweat on my face, just another normal day. I hate my job, well I guess it’s not really my job considering I get nothing out of it. One night I was with this guy, he didn’t want sex or he didn’t try and get me high or anything, he just wanted someone to talk too. He told me I was beautiful and to be honest he was beautiful himself he said that I could be a model or something, I wish that was true. Anyway back to last night, the apartment I woke up in was disgusting I felt so dirty, well in this job it’s normal too feel gross, dirt was sticking to the sweat on my body all I wanted was a cool shower, I walked over to the bathroom and it was just shit I can’t even explain I’m almost positive if I took a shower I would come out dirtier. I walked out, back to the bedroom, there was a big man in the bed he was also sweating he looked greasy I wanted too throw up, he wasn’t like the beautiful boy I talked to the other night. This man kind of reminded me of my father, poor and dirty, I missed him though. I used to live in Mexico with my parents and 6 well maybe 7 sisters for some reason I can’t remember the exact age.
(Starts to tear up)
Everyday I try to forget what happened too me, the day I was taken out my home and dragged into a dirty smelly white van, they calmly told us not to scream, this one girl with black hair and brown oval eyes started to scream and that’s when it happened a big man, I couldn’t tell if he was dark skinned or just dirty, well he smacked her she had a red hand print across her face and she shut up. They told us we were going across the border to America. I know it wasn’t something to be excited over but I had never been to America before and maybe it would be fun, I had no idea what I was in for. I tried to sleep in the car but I couldn’t get comfortable, I mean could you get comfortable in a tightly packed van with 5 other girls. Days went by we were given the occasional bottle of water no food no nothing. “Salga de la furgoneta”. I still remember Spanish, they have us use it sometimes for certain customers. “Usted está en Nueva York”. They ushered us out the big van and into a house that looked abandoned, that’s when I met him. Edgar, he was scary and big he explained why we were here. “You’re in a business now” he voice was angry, none of us were getting any sympathy. He looked at me he noticed me, he came over and touched my face than slipped his fingers through my hair,
(rubs her hair gently)
“you’re going to earn me anything I need.” he whispered that in my ear, I cringed every time I think about that whisper. He explained what we’d be doing, selling our bodies, in return for drugs, money and anything that would benefit him, if he owed someone a debt they’d get our bodies, every girl in that room was drained of emotion, they couldn’t even bring themselves to cry, I remember that day like it was yesterday, it feels like just yesterday I was 16 well it’s been 2 years I’m 18 and stuck in the same position. I think I have it easiest of all the girls. Edgar thinks I’m the prettiest, so he only uses me for his most important clients, sometimes he has me work when another girl gets sick like when I was in that cruddy apartment, I think they get jealous of me sometimes, I mean if I were in their situation I’d be jealous of me too. Some of the girls have serious problems, I’m not sure why I don’t have problems I mean I do but not like them, its kind of like they turned what’s happening to us into some sick game, they fuck around with these guys minds pretend like they’re in love I mean these guys are already sickos for participating in illegal sex trafficking but still. I guess I like to be alone in the house I only go out when I’m working. Jackie is my only friend in the house, and I wouldn’t even call her a friend she’s the only girl that doesn’t shoot me dirty looks kind of like this (She grimaces) We have no beds in the house just wooden cots and a blanket, there’s no heating for the winter and no air for the summer, we have one bathroom and the windows are covered by bars, Edgar doesn’t live with us, two big Mexican men guard us and make sure we don’t try to runaway or bring unwanted attention towards the house. I wish this could be over, I wish I could change who I was, I wish I could go back to Mexico, be with my family but I cant this is the life I’m stuck with, maybe not forever but defiantly for now.

Act 2 Scene 2
Woman, to me they are the most important creatures on earth, without them I’d be no one, I wouldn’t be where I am today, I am a millionaire, all thanks to woman. My father was in the same business as I am. Some say its wrong and on the news they criticize it but what they don’t understand is that I am helping these girls, these girls are beautiful but they have nothing , what would they do if they stayed in Mexico join a drug ring, sell their bodies there, grow corn? Who knows, but what I know is that they are in America, and everything here is better. I’m showing these girls how to be women, their bodies are my property. There is one girl though, she’s the best, I have white office men after her, I have to make sure she doesn’t complain or cry, I can tell she over thinks things too much, the girls aren’t allowed to write or draw well basically they cant do anything, but her I know she writes but I tell the guards not to say anything, I can’t let my feelings get in the way of business the other girls are starting to notice how I treat her differently, they give her mean looks and brush her off. But back to what I was saying, what I do used to make me feel bad stealing girls from their homes, raping them of their pride but it’s my job and I am good at what I do. After a few years the girls learn to accept that this is what their life is

Act 3 scene 3
Chloe is so beautiful we call ourselves CJ for Chloe and Jackie. We’re best friends, all the girls hate her, I really can’t see why, shes the only one in the house with manners and, she’s just so beautiful, she doesn’t deserve this life, I mean none of us do, but her she could be a model an actress, I treat her well because I know shes going to be something, I just know it everything will work for her, i promise

Act 4 Scene 4
That bitch, she gets all the attention, considering I’m stuck here pulled away from my life my family my friends I deserve to get treated the same way as Chloe, My names Rosie, that’s prettier and more exciting then Chloe. I hate America I can’t be here, no man back home would pay to do whatever he wants to me, no one would ever do that. Chloe, she falls asleep before the rest of us, I stare at her, she isn’t that pretty, she’s nothing. A couple of us spit on her at night once this girl Margarita whose younger and has more of a wild twist to her, suggested that we cut her hair off, man I wish we did. Edgar treats her like she’s royalty SHE’S NOT (Shout this, breaks down in tears) huh ( Looks to side) , shit here I come (Walks off stage)

Act 5 scene 5
I wonder how my younger sister is doing, she’s probably all grown up now, I’m sure she’s beautiful as well, god forbid anyone like Edgar or worse gets to her like they got to me, she doesn’t deserve that. I probably won’t ever see her again (Slightly sniffles) but the memory of her my mother my father and my brothers will always be close. Unlike the rest of the girls, I enjoy America, it’s not like I really get to go out, but when I do I see bright lights the happier people like that beautiful boy I saw, i’d never forget him. When I’m back with the girls in the house I get upset again, they hate me, secretly they all hate each other. I can’t do this anymore I know stuff like this happens all over the world but it never crossed my mind that it would happen to me

Act 6 scene 6
Sex trafficking is something my team and I have being trying to stop since god knows when. It’s hard, we can only arrest them if they’re caught in the act. I know it’s going on all around New York, I don’t have some incrediable 6th sense that tells me if a girl walking down the street is selling herself, I’m just a new york street cop. They’re usually the foreign girls, the ones that look lost and sad, they look around them cautiously eye down rich men skip glances over poor ones. That’s how it works. Most of them look sickly thin, they look drugged up, if we see a girl like that usually we get our undercovers to go in and try to talk to them, get them to offer sex and we make the arrest. If it were up to me I wouldn’t arrest these girls, it’s not their choice, they didn’t choose this life (Shakes head)

Act 7 scene 7
They say that beauty fades but love will remain, how do you get love when you’re fat, slimy and girls only look at you to laugh, that’s right you don’t. I know what i’m doing is wrong and yes I could get arressted but these girls don’t know what they’re doing they make me feel special loved. One girl was absolutly beautiful. I couldn’t bring her home, with my kids. Honestly I couldn’t bring her anywhere, how embaressing would it be if I got aressted, telling my wife, my kids having to explain it to the men at work, nope nope never that.   so I brought her to some shitty apartment that a guy at the fish packaging market lives it smelled and she looked disgusted but she did her job and let me tell you she did it well.

ACT 1 SCENE 1

EVA

(Three men come near the house, two with guns and one with a suit)

(Wife is outside watering plants)

Oh, these Dahlias are beautiful this time of year.  When spring showers bring may flowers.  Hopefully that will happen with the crop this year.  Hopefully...  It just wouldn’t grow last year.

(Sigh)

Whats- Whats that over there?  I never saw that car before.  They’re getting out.  Why are they getting out?  They have no business here. Or with us, for that matter.  Oh no, they have guns!

(Eva goes inside to the screen door)

Who are those men out there?

(Looking outside)

The ones outside! With the guns.  One guy has a suit.  Yes…  The other two- don’t you see?  The other two have dress shirts.  No, they’re, they’re, just looking around at our field.  I don’t know why.  Maybe the cro- No, but there mad at something.  Will you let me finish a sentence?  I said maybe the crop.  Why are they mad?  See you don’t listen to me I told you.  Look Ed, they’re picking up the soil.  I’m not sure.  No he’s on the phone screaming about something in Espanola. I can’t make it out.  Probably the field.  They’re coming toward the house

(Motioning to Ed)

Go see what they want, before they destroy our property.  Please, honey.  Do it for me.  Be careful.  No, no, don’t take the gun; we don’t want them to know we have one.  Wait let me go lock Carmen’s door.

(Locked the door)

(Walking to the front of the room)

All right, come on Ed make them go away, use that silver tongue of yours.  Talk them away.  That’s it.  You’re doing a good job.  Oh, no…  They just flashed their guns.  No, don’t bring them inside, what are you doing?!

(Sigh)

(Ed walks in with the traffickers)

(Waiting for Ed to come, whispering to him)

Why did you let them inside?  Huh?  I know but you could at least... never mind.  So, what did you find out?  You’re not sure what they want?  All right, let’s see.  Don’t make them mad. They might kill us.

(Talking to the traffickers)

So, uhhh.

(Clears throat)

Good afternoon. Can I get you guys anything to drink?  Want some lemonade, or... cold tea?  Oh, I know! How about some Orange juice?

(Walking to the kitchen)

No? Not thirsty right now?

(Walking back)

Okay, then.  So, uhh, what brings you gentlemen here?  I would be better if I sat down?  Okay, sure. Fine, what’s this about?

(Pause)

(Looks to Ed shocked)

You want, what? Or else? ...No, no, no ,no. You don’t understand.  We already planted our seeds.  You're too late.  What’s your name?  Mr. Diaz.  Huh?  You people come into my house wanting our property... and labor?  For nothing?  You’re out of your damn minds!  Who do you think we are? Morons?  There isn’t any way you’re getting our land! No way. No, you're so lucky I don’t reach for your throat now... Don’t call me a bitch!  I’ll rip your head off.

(Whispering to Ed)

Tell them no, make them go away.  Before I hurt them.  Come on, you know this is ridiculous?  Right?

(Talking to traffickers sternly)

Can we talk for a second? ...Alone?

(Ed and Eva go off to the side)

Ed, listen, we can't do this.  No, it's too late in the season anyway to do this.  We will get the money another way; we will get the money another way.

(Rubbing the tears from her face)

Their criminals!  Crooks!  Thieves!  Cowards!  Don’t patronize me! They are going to make us do all the work so- and what if the drug police come, huh?  What the hell do we do then?  No please don’t do this, what about- Yes, what about Carmen.

(Hand motion)

I know she needs the money but its drug money!  We can’t raise her in this mess, we just can’t.  She has a good life ahead of her in spite of her illness.

(Rubbing her face)

No, Ed she's only seven she can't handle this kind of thing.  You should have never let them in.  All right I’m sorry but we can’t do this.  There are other ways.  There are!  I know it.  I just can’t think of them yet but they’ll find us.  They’ll find us...  Just, just tell them we’ll think about it okay?  Tell them 3 days.  That should be enough time to get a plan going.  We’ll think of something.  No, not tomorrow.  Okay fine...  Promise me.

(Carmen some how unlocked her door comes up to Eva)

(Talking to Carmen, kneeling)

Wait.  No, no honey go back to sleep.  Don’t worry about them honey you need your rest.  Okay?  Don’t ask questions honey.  Just go back to sleep. Okay?  Okay.

(Carmen goes back to her room)

(Staring down the traffickers, talking to them)

If you ever touch her... I’ll kill you myself.

(She walks to Carmen’s room)

(The men walk out the house)

Act 1 Scene 2

EDUARDO

(Slowly paced)

(Out in the field planting more seeds)

Great, just goddamn great.  One more thing this year and I’ll…  My head will burst!  First the bad harvest.  Those tomatoes just went bad for some reason- I used the best fertilizer.  The best seeds.  And fresh water from the stream.  I, I did everything right, I don’t know went wrong.  What happened?  They were fine until... Until august when I started using the pesticide.  How stupid could I have been?  I should have known.  Goddammit.  Then Carmen…  Going for a routine check up and then bam.  She’s horribly sick and we didn’t even know it.  Or at least I didn’t.  I thought it was just the flu-I mean she had a fever and threw up.  A cough.  Those are classic flu symptoms.  Right? I guess not...  So, we went to the doctors and come to find out its kidney disease.  What the hell kind of sickness is that for a 7 year old child?  Fist off, how does it even happen that young?  I mean that’s something older people get.  Like me.  Why not me?  Why her?  Why her this young?  It should have been me!  I’m the old person in the house.  Why not?  Why the hell not?  Plus, the damn treatment for her is too much.  I can’t… I can’t afford it. Two days a week at Hospital Regional.  The only reason I can get her some treatment is because of the hospital and whatever insurance she has.  I don’t even know what she has.  They can only do it for so long, soon they’ll need money.  I barley have enough money to feed us.  Not with the crop last year.  Now there’s a way to help her but it’s with Criminals!  Damn it!  I can’t do a deal with criminals.  They came into my home threatening my family.  Then Eva went berserk...  If I don’t do this deal and they come by again.  That will be the end of them.  No, more problems.  But if I get over powered.  They’ll kill me or…  At the very least they’ll kill Carmen or Eva.  Or even worse take them!  I can’t live without them…  No, no, no, they are not going to die or be taken advantage of, Ill make sure of it.  I can’t think about the what ifs...  Next time they come I won’t be alone though.  I guarantee it.  I’ll-

(Pause)

Ill some how get the police to know about this

But how?

(Pause)

There has to be some police in Iquitos.  I’ll tell them what happened and next time they come they’ll be here and imprison them-

(Sigh)

Yeah

(Nods head)

(Shakes head)

No.  No, I’ll make the deal.  She needs the money.  For that um.  Um.  What’s it called?  ...Dialysis.  Yeah that’s it.  I can get her that and some new clothes.  It’ll make her happy...  I’ll make her happy.  These seeds better grow more than just plants.  They better grow hope because... This is the only thing we have left.

Act 1 Scene 3

CARMEN

(Sitting on her bed)

I’m so confused.  What’s is going on around here? ...I’m sooo scared.  I showed him everything that was wrong with me.  And mommy told him everything thing else I missed.  I think it started a week or two ago.  When I threw up...  I can’t remember...  But the doctor told me bad news.

(Crying)

It made me really sad. And- and papa was crying about it, because he didn’t.  He didn’t have enough money yet to get me better.

(Stops crying)

I hope I do get better.  I donn wanna be sick forever.  I have to go to this place, two times a week.  And they take out bad stuff in my blood, I forget what the machine is called but

I dunno how but it makes me better.  I’ll get better.  I know it.  I can’t stand Mommy and Daddy sad like that it hurts my heart.  But then yesterday.  I heard noises in the living room.  So I came out of my room to see what it was.  And there were three men on the couch.  And Papa.  And Mommy.  Were whispering, about something.  I donn know. I couldn’t hear them too good.  But, It seemed bad.  Then they all noticed me and made me go back to bed.  It wasn’t fair; I wanted to know what was happening.  I deserved to.  I mean I was awake and plus, I don’t want to be in bed all day, It hurts after a while...  I wanna go out into the fields and play, like daddy and me used to do. We would play hide and seek from dawn till sunset.  But no....  My ankles are all puffy and I can’t walk too good.  I almost fell when I tried to get up.  So, the doctor said to get rest and come every Tuesday and Saturday.  I gotta sleep he said.  That’s fine I guess, I’m always tired anyway.

(Goes back to sleep)

Carmen

Act 1 Scene 4

DRUG DEALER

(Ring, Ring)

Yo man wassup?  It’s me Martin.  What?  Yeah you know me. Remember the thing on Wednesday and I told you about the thing?  Yeah you got me.  Nah, I got the stuff.  Mhm.  You come and get it.  Yeah ill be there.  Go to the spot we went to before.  Nah, don’t you remember?  The one right behind Publix.  You know.  To the right of Acme, behind Publix.  Nah.  Yeah that one.  Nah don't worry about the policia.  So what if they are around the corner, dey stupid man.  Nah, nah it’ll be cool.  I know man and plus this stuff is extra strong.  When did I start doing this?  Recently man.  Ever since I got out of small time stuff.  Goin with the big guys.  What?  Nah, I don’t do no robberies any more.  That’s some old small stuff. Think bigger.  I know people way down south.  Yeah, so, where’d you here that.  Around?  Oh, okay.

(Waiting for the guy to come)

(Walking up to the guy)

Yo, man how you doin?  Yeah, boss man is getting a new setup in Peru.  Yeah but this stuff is extra strong once you take it, woooo you’re off.  Yeah, yeah. Nah don’t worry they’re going off somewhere else.  What the sirens getting louder? Oh shit.  Book it.  RUNNN!

(Trying to run away)

Hide it man hide it!  Did you set me up?!  Did you set me up?!  I knew it man.  I knew it...

Act 1 Scene 5

FBI AGENT

(In an interrogation room with the drug dealer that was in the previous monologue)

(FBI agent walks in slams a folder on the table and sits leaning back)

(Felon is standing)

Sit down

(Pause)

Do you know why your here?  Uhh Martin Baines.  What?  You don’t know?  You didn’t do anything? Ha-ha, Alright.  So the 6 kilos of cocaine, in your vehicle. You know the car that you own... 88’ olds mobile... license plate number B36 MLK, isn’t yours?  You know the Cocaine in the glove compartment.  You do know its illegal right?  I mean I hope ya do.  Uhuh right...  Oh I see some planted it there right?  You want me to believe your story right?  Not going to happen.  Lets look at your record down here in scorching Miami shall we?

(Reaches for a folder and opens it, crosses his leg)

Lets see.  Grand theft auto in 06, on NW 45th lane.  A break in, in 07.  Same street.  And now this, 6 kilos of cocaine...  Behind Publix.  Not even a block away.  Now tell me, see, I don’t understand how you could go from grand theft auto to 6 kilos of cocaine?  Oh, you were set up, I see...  Okay, listen. Cut the crap

(Unfolds his leg, sits up straight)

We are not interested in you.  We are interested in your new boss, Jorge Diaz.  He’s known for forcing people into his business.  We know about his operations in Peru, and your relation with him.  He is setting up a new workshop for making Cocaine from plants grown there.  He is also needed for questioning here for the cynical murders and beatings of his wife and three young kids.  Madison at age 4...  Franklin at age 3...  Stephanie at age 7...  And, Esmeralda, his wife at 28... Nearly beaten to death. Still in the hospital... You never heard of him before?  Why did he kill his family?  Because they threatened to go to the FBI.  The only difference between you and them is you are already in custody.  You won’t get hurt.  You’re still not talking?  All right, when you have a revelation about if you want to talk or not knock on the window and maybe, just maybe I’ll talk to you.  If other people die because of you, lets just say you’re getting more than 10 years in prison, with accessory to murder

(Gets up)

(Starts walking away)

What’s that?  Oh, it is yours?  Well, didn’t you say it wasn’t?  You do know him?  I’m terrible confused.  Inform me!  Now!  On everything.  Names.  Numbers.  Even what they eat for breakfast.  I want know every damn little detail that you know about them.  Or else you’re going to get a minimum of 10 years in prison.  And believe me when I say minimum.

Act 1 Scene 6

Reporter

Good evening, I’m Ben Walsh.

Justice is in the air tonight, here in downtown Miami.

FBI agents report that they have Jorge Diaz in custody today.

He was responsible for three cold-blooded murders of his children and the vicious beating of his wife just two weeks ago.

The lead the FBI agents got a tip from an informant, which proved to be the only thing standing in their way.  A drug dealer in the area, Martin Baines, was arrested today on drug charges, which proved to be the missing link to solve the case.  He told the FBI where Jorge was located, hiding out in the Peruvian city Iquitos. Jorge was extradited today on 3 accounts of first-degree murder and an attempted murder charge.  Officials escorted him off the plane in chains and handcuffs earlier this evening and will charge him later this week.

Miami news Mbz

Back to you, Bob.

(Pushes on his in-ear head phone)

What’s that?

Yes, the wife is still in serious condition but doctors say she is going to be all right.

Thank you, Bob.

Catch you later.

Act 1 Scene 7

CARMEN

(Overlapping a little with the monologue above)

Mommy, Mommy!  Guess what mommy!  Remember when Daddy went into town?  Well he got a newspaper and I started to read it and I saw that Jorge Diaz got arrested!  What do you mean what does it mean?  It means that those mean people won’t ever come again.  Well the other day I woke up and heard you yelling.  And you said Mr. Diaz and some other stuff.  But that’s him mommy. Look!

(Shows her the paper)

See, isn’t that him?  I knew it was him!  Now we are going be fine right mommy?  Okay mommy I believe you.  What?  What is dad going to grow now?  Not tomatoes again right?  Cocoa?  Oh, is that used to make chocolate?  Oh, yummy.

Okay, mommy. Go and water the plants.

(Walks to another part of the stage)

Daddy, Daddy guess what!

Look!  Here!  Yeah, that’s really him.

(Carmen hugs Eduardo)

Oh, wait before you go.  What did you plant today?  I asked you but you never told me.  Cocoa?  You mean chocolate?  We’re growing chocolate?  Yay! Daddy, can we make chocolate when it’s ready?  What else? You’re the best.  Mommy, Mommy, guess what?

Ruben Burenstein Monologue project

Posted by Ruben Burenstein in World History - Block on Friday, April 8, 2011 at 11:29 am

My monologue project was about the inflation issue in Zimbabwe. They had a shortage in food which led to the food rising drastically in prices. Many people in zimbabwe do not have jobs so they could not afford this expensive food. The government decided to print much larger dollar bills, which made the inflation much worse. Eventually millions of dollars became worth almost nothing. This caused people to start paying for items with things other than zimbabwean dollars until the issue got a little better and they started to use different currencies.

Spare a million dollars?
By Ruben Burenstein

Cast of characters:
Mugabe (president): Age 86. President of Zimbabwe. Very corrupt, takes millions of dollars from companies that are trying to help his country.
Steve (banker): Has connections with the president, so he gives the idea that there should be high dollar bills.
Harvey (rich):  Anger issues. Made a lot of money before loosing it all because of inflation.
Susan (poor): Accepts that he is poor, Isn’t furious at the president for making money worth nothing, because now people have to live what he lived like. He is a little mad at the president because he is worth less though.
Matt (doctor): Is tired of having to accept other objects for pay instead of money, just wants to have a normal job.
Tom (shop owner): Makes the change to only accepting money not from Zimbabwe.
Banker for government- At beginning wants to create more money because food problems.

Act 1. Scene 1

STEVE

(Walking around, looking at things, stands with food in the background with people walking in the streets.)
Wow why is no one here, there are always people in Tom’s. it’s not a weird time for people to shop, where is everyone. What are we out of at the house? hmm...We need some more apples, maybe some more carrots, some noodles, chicken, and potatoes.
(Walks over to one spot)
Excuse me, do you have any apples or carrots? Only apples...alright, ill take 4. What? the prices are still going up, is there anywhere else I could get them?. Are you sure?... Well I don’t have enough money for any of those. Why are the prices so high? A food shortage, alright I guess that I will have to go home and get more money.
(Walks away)
I wonder what we can do to help people out in this food shortage. I have enough money just because I am a highly paid banker, but what will the normal people do?
(Looks upwards as if thinking)
I know! since I have the power to get higher dollar bills made I should try to make bills that are easily available for everyone. Maybe if they have these bills they will be able to buy food and other necessities. I think that’s what I will do. This might cause inflation if we need to keep doing this... but nah it won’t because the food shortage will stop eventually. I think that I’ve got a good idea here, let me call the president and ask him.

Act 1. Scene 2

HARVEY

(Pacing back outside of Tom’s store, cracking his fingers)
All right, time to do this. I have a license to carry, maybe I can just buy one and get out. Okay here we go.
(Enters store)
Hey. Um yeah, do you have a 9mm pistol? Yes I do have a license here it is. I have about 2 chickens outside if you want those as payment. Yeah about 30 rounds also. Okay thank you. Have a nice day.
(Exits store and starts walking slowly)
Whoa that was easier than I expected. Now how am I going to do this.... It looks like he is going to be stuck in his house for a while. I don’t blame him, the whole country hates him. I think maybe I will scale the gate, and try to break into one of his windows in the back of his house. Should I try to hold him hostage and demand money? No, that won’t work because money is worthless now. I think I should just go in there and shoot him. After he ruined what I worked so hard for, and drove this country into one of the worst states it could be in. Someone ought to do this before he messes things up more. Is it even possible for him to do that? He steals from organizations trying to help us, he doesn’t care about us or anything else as long as he gets rich. If I wanted to become as rich as he is now I would do it without ruining the lives of thousands of people. If no one else is going to try to do this, I guess I’ll have to. It would make more sense that someone like me do this because I lost more money from all of the inflation.
(Sits down)
All of that hard work, I started off small and made my way up to the top. Everything that I worked for is all worthless now. I used to have everything I wanted, a pool, a 100 inch TV, a nice car, 50 chickens, everything I wanted. Now I have to use those chickens for payment, it’s all they are good for. That all changed when the inflation picked up. Everything that I had was worth nothing. It makes me so frustrated just thinking about it!

Act 1. Scene 3

SUSAN
(Sitting down in a comfortable chair with a television in front of her.)
He’s been coughing for a few days now, and feels as though he has a temperature. Maybe I should take him to the doctors. There isn’t any money lying around, but that doesn’t matter I can probably get a big sack of peanuts on the way there.  Even though I can take my kid to the doctor without paying money, it doesn’t feel right. We had just enough money to do this when money counted for something, it just doesn’t feel the same. With the absence of money there isn’t anything that people work for. I hope that the doctor will take the peanuts instead of some money from here, or want American dollars which I don’t have. I don’t want to go into work because I don’t want to get paid in worthless money, or anything else. The government needs to attempt to fix this problem instead of steal money and not care about what the people think.
(Stands up)
I think that I have to keep working for things other than money to keep this family afloat. Well I think that I can pick up some peanuts from someone on the street if I say that I will help them out with something later. I should leave and go take Charles  to the doctors. I’ll leave enough money on the table for whoever gets home to buy some food from Tom’s, they are the only place that has any food for not completely over priced prices.
(Puts things on a table)
300 million dollars should be enough for a meal, and a little more food. Alright, time to take Charles.
(Walks out door)

Act 1. Scene 4

MATT
(Hospital beds in the background, standing with a clipboard.)
Hey, Jim I went in to Tom’s today to buy some new medical supplies and they were so much... No way more than that, have you been to the store lately... It’s ridiculously expensive, they need to come out with a new dollar bill that is worth even more... Alright go take care of you’re patient, I’ve gotta write up what that kid earlier had... Yeah the one that paid in peanuts, I still can’t believe we are going to accept that as payment. Why would we want peanuts? I guess it could be more useful than other things, but why should we work for things that don’t help us. We need to make something of value in order to keep working, not just getting peanuts that might help with our job. What else will people try to pay with before we say that we can’t accept that… I think we only accepted the peanuts because that we can’t buy much with the money... The point is that we can buy things with the money if we have enough, so I don’t think we should keep taking other things. I think I might quit in a week or two if the money keeps getting worth less, because I don’t want to put all my time in to getting things that don’t help me personally. Oh sorry to keep you so long, go find your patient.

Act 1. Scene 5

MUGABE
I should lay low for a while after what happened last Wednesday. That killer almost got to me, thank god my most trusted body guard saw him. I wonder why he was so mad, I think that I am running this country very well. Hello Catherine, yes I can take a call, okay, line one, alright.
(Walks away a few steps and picks up phone)
What? I already apologized for that. Yes, I know it was wrong but I don’t care. Some of that money should have been mine, so I took it. Look I’m not going to give it back so this conversation is over
(Hangs up phone.)
I can’t believe they blame only me for that, it was Steve’s fault also. Why doesn’t he get blamed for a lot of stuff, he is in the same situation as me. We both thought it was a good idea to make higher dollar bills, but why do they only blame me? I tried my best to help the inflation issue, but there wasn’t that much I can do. I don’t understand why the people are so mad at me. They shouldn’t rely on only me to fix the country. There was nothing else I could do for this country, I mean I guess that I could have not taken that money, but why wouldn’t I if the money I get paid is worthless. I could have not let the others print higher dollar bills, but that wouldn’t have helped, because then no one would be able to buy any food or supplies. Why do they blame me, I made the right choices for this country and myself, they should realize this instead of getting on my case all the time. Catherine, come in here please! Could you run down to Tom’s and get me some new food? Thanks, here’s a billion dollars, call me if there are any problems.

Act 1. Scene 6

TOM
(Sitting down behind a check-out counter)
Hello welcome to Tom’s,  What would you like?... Just those pants, okay... No we don’t accept Zimbabwean dollars. Why? Because we don’t want billions of dollars if nowhere accepts them. Yes new policy started last week, that will be 15 US dollars, nothing else... Well then I guess you’ll have to leave them here, come back when you have money worth anything. Have a nice day, hope to see you again.
(Takes the pants that were placed on the counter)
Who would have thought that a small product like these could be worth so much. 2.7 billion dollars, 2.7 worthless billion dollars. How did this all start out? Everything used to be priced normally, how did it change so much in so little time? At least we are making the switch to other types of money, it’s about time. It got so frustrating selling food, and other things with that shortage.
(Touches the pants)
After that man came in trying to buy some apples a while ago but he couldn’t afford because they were too much; my eyes really opened. I am glad that we started selling clothes, when we switched to US dollars. It brings in more money but still one thing is on my mind. Why couldn’t we have switched earlier, everyone could see that the prices were way to high and that the government was just messing it up further. Ughhh what are we going to do with the pounds and pounds of almost worthless paper that we have now? Are they going to have something where we can exchange all of this worthless money for other types of money? That might solve the problem a little more, but not entirely. It will take a long time for everyone to stop accepting Zimbabwe money and switch to US dollars. I wish that we could have just avoided the inflation in the first place, it’s so frustrating having to switch to a completely different form of currency with no preparation.

It's Nothing Insane

Monologue Project Created By: Cecelia Baez

INTRODUCTION

My project is based off the idea of Sex Slavery intertwined with old tales of German and Jewish hatred. A young jewish female has been snatched away to German as a sell slave. This story deals a lot with the binds of her life going through something not knowing why or what the man by Augustus has in store for her. The mean time of this slavery, Augustus "The pimp" is creating a documentary about how he feels about Jews and what he is doing to these poor females. It's a pretty interesting play in which can really catch the eye of emotion. If you must know, Prostitution in slavery is illegal. &From loads of research, it was found that loads of money comes into Germany during the world cup due to crazy amounts of foreign men looking for woman and sex. It's a large income for Germany. But no always the greatest way of receiving this income. Sex slavery has reduced by a lot in the past years, but that doesn't mean it's dead.

[Examines bottle] This... simple… [Plucks bottle] thick… bottle, Was the slip of his drug into my body? Some would call it date rape. [Fiddle with bottle in between hands, down on your lap] An illegal act. Of an illegal drug. Young and Dumb I was for trusting someone I did not know. How could I let it go so far? Raises eyebrow and shakes head no] I don’t know. And from here I can’t remember much, But the sudden feeling of not being able to move wide. And the urge to want to breathe… But needing to take such, Small, Breaths. It was dark, hot, and tight. I cried for hours in plead of movement. Trapped in a box. A little bigger then me. I didn’t know anything of my time and place Or how. I knew. Trapped I was… But not that’s not that way to describe the next few weeks of my life. Think of it more, as… Death. [Stares with a blank expression forward. Stands up, and turns video camera off] ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Act 1, Scene 2 AUGUSTUS [Sitting in a wooden chair, and legs are crossed males style. His expression looks calm, yet not to be messed with. He speaks very seriously. He speaks in a very natural German Accent] Is it working? [Nods head] Good. very Good! The World cup is soon. I cannot wait! You know… for the chocolate! No, I lie. Chocolate is for the women. To… You know... [Moves one hand in a swift circle moment like whisking air] Arouse their happiness. [Hands on lap, fingers folded] I just received 30 more women. It makes me very happy. All are so beautiful. All are so young. All are so… worthy! [Licks lips, and dazes to the side for a few seconds] Oh, pardon me. My mint dazes to De idea of what good will come out of my actions! [Offers out hand] Let me tell you about myself. Since you’re going to need to know who I am. Aren’t you? Lets start. [Stands up out of seat and places hand on chest] My name is Augustus. I am a full-blooded German male. I was raised in strict German household. Mama, ant Papa very, very much like their grandparents. Ant there grandparent's Ant there grandparent's, grandparent's. All the way backs to the Nazi times. Tam Natzi times. [Sighs uncomfortably.] What am I trying to say here? [Gets very close to camera lens] Yes, I don't like Jewish. Ant I hate how because of them, my country became poor! Paying all the debts. [Spits the side] Oh Poor Jewish People Poor Cheap People. [Speaks through teeth] Oh… they are damn right sick! It’s cruel! [Backs up from camera a bit and plays arms on hips and stands with chest out] So, I became a very cruel man. What can I say? My latest experiment? The Jewish Slaughter. No I’m not killing people Well some to tie. That’s just because they’re weak. [Sits back in chair] Ugh..Sorry. I’m getting off topic here. I am original. I to good for my country. Ant they don’t complain. I bring in the highest source of income for Germany. They need me. Of course my hunting assistance to a lot to help as well. Beautiful Jewish woman will bring me story a life. What story? De story of the WORLD. Why? [ Looks away for a few seconds, then looks straight into the camera] Because I’m fucking sick, at looking at Jewish be able to get away with such please of innocents. This will lead many different people to view society in life. I’m very sure of it. You are probably very confused. I apologize. Let me explain just a little. Don’t want to give away TOO much JUICY information.. Now do I? [Large wink into camera] Well here it goes.. [Stares into a wonder] Me being a young lad, I never intended on anything bad about Jewish people, and the world’ My parents, and grandfather always told me about how much of scums they are. I actually had intentions to prove to my Papa that they were good people. Just People. Not monsters. [Eyes got wide, and says loudly] WELL I WAS VERY WRONG. [Says sadly and softly] I can still hear the screams of my poor… Mama pleading for them to stop. I can still hear the cries of my poor little sister confused of the actions these men were committing. [Speaks fierce with anger] Wearing that Yarmulke of death. Indication that these murders...these rapist... were Jewish. [Breaths deeply and Tone changes to calm and relaxed] As for my Papa and grandfather and older brother. Locking them in there rooms while being burnt to death, didn’t leave a very good scar. I happen to be the only intelligent one who knew to go to the underground passageway of protection. Built by my great, great, great, great grandaddy himself. It was a very random encounter. Why? I do not know the reason. But I know the action. So from there started my plot. Alright. Okay that’s all I say for now. We are done. Now turn off this camera! ______________________________________________________________________________ Act 1, Scene 3 LUCAS [He walks down a long narrow hall, towards a door at the very end. Lucas is very tall, and handsome looking. Body structure is well built, while his legs being one the strongest things on him. Slick back brown hair, and tan skin. He is dressed in a blue jersey and black shorts. As he approaches a door, he walks into the room behind it. ] Well hello, Ma’am. Aren’t you beautiful? [3-second pause] [Holds fingers to his lips, and closes door behind him] Shhh… Don’t speak. I don’t take very long, so no worries. [Walks up to a chair in the corner of the room] Goddamn, this room is so small? Out of all the money these people make, they can’t afford bigger rooms? At least it’s color, and lighting is a navy blue. That makes everything so much more… romantic. Since… you know… this is the last kind of thing anyone would think of as romantic. [Looks around the room some more] Small, blue, with only a bed and a chair. This could really be some one's closet. Well… I paid for the best… So… You better damn right be the best. Lets see how these things go… [Stares at the girl sitting on the side of the bed for a few seconds] You are really pretty. [Uses his hands to show the outline of the girl] So thin, with a pretty nice bust. I like. [3 second pause] How often do I do this you ask? Pretty often. None are as pretty as you. [3 second pause] Where are we you ask? Err… I don’t know if I should be telling you this. But that bastard possibly wouldn’t care. I believe you at least have the right to know where you are...we are in Germany. [3 second pause] [gets up from where he is sitting and sits next to the girl] Wait… No… don’t cry. [Places his hand on her shoulder and rubs it to calm her] Goddamn. I suck at this. Look sweetie, I’m sorry you got brought you here. But it’s business, all right? Live with it shortly and you’ll be fine. Augustus the man who owns this joint won’t keep you here forever. [Pauses for 3 seconds] Why are you even talking? You’re supposed to be drugged. [Pauses for 3 seconds] Look, you really just need to give me what I came for and call it over? Okay? I’m not looking for a relationship here. I could help you but there isn’t much I can do nor much I really want to do. Now please... shut up. [Pauses 3 seconds] [Rolls eyes] Yes… My name is Lucas. Look it’s nice to see you again too. I don’t think you know me well, but I don’t do well with the whole woman cryings and making me feel bad about my life card. [looks around room and while speaking next line] You aren’t supposed to see in this lighting. Dammit. You’re not drugged. Are you? Why is Augustus so against drugging you guys so often! It makes it a hell of a lot easier. [Silence for a few seconds] Well sorry… I only deal with drugged bitches. See you when you’re out of it. He moves his fist quickly and swiftly across her face. A hit there, and a hit here, till she becomes out of it] Now lets have some fun! [He smiles as he turns off the camera on the side of the bed] _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Act 1, Scene 4 TIKVA [The same girl from monologue one is seating in the same metal chair, in the same place. Front/Middle stage. All lights are dark, and one light shinning down on her. She is wearing a white dress, dirty, holes everywhere on it, and very short. Her hair is big and nappy. It's as if she just got out of living in the jungle. Her face shows the expression of depression, sadness, fright, and worry. Her body position is very closed up, and secured ball like.] [Head is looking down, as she inhales. During exhale she lifts her head up straight forward. Eyes open the whole time] I… I…I don't know in the name..of..of human kind, wh..what type of p..p..people. I just, don't know? I don't.. Understand? [Looks straight forward] If you could see…. if you could understand. You don't. [Shakes head] YOU don't. They… touch…they grab. They enter… [In a deep tone] They demand. They beat… [Bites bottom lip.. as it trembles] Why is the world so goddamn obsessed with money? Do you see what they fucking did to me? [Shows arm wrapped in cloth, bent to the side] I can't even move it. &They just left it here, like this. Who wants to have sex with a damn handicap? I don't. [3 seconds pause] Explain who I am? & Make it direct? … [Sighs] Okay. My name is Tikva. I am 18 years old, and I'm from America. I now see that life is a game. &I'm just a drugged victim. [3 second pause] Hope? Who needs hope… That's what my name means. But It's so hard to look for this, [Use quotations] hope. Especially when you come across… A room of 30 women. All naked. All drugged. And you’re placed in an even smaller room. By yourself. And each hour, you're forced to sex your body over to any man that might come your way… [Rubs fingers together] For money. Tell me what you feel then? Because it's sure not hope. My vagina was pulped to the point of mere... existence. Now I wish I was a man. A man... who owned a dick. So I can penetrate a woman. But god knows what. You expect me to live off of hope? [Sarcasm &rolls eyes] Shit that's all I have. Hope that if you're watching this right now.. You'll see how messed up this world is. &How money… kills. [3 second pause] Alright.. I think I’m done. You can turn the camera off now. Please... [Begins to cry] ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Act 1, Scene 5 FATHER [Two parents are sitting on a couch. Man and Woman The room is in bright colors and flower designed wallpaper. Mainly pink, yellow, and orange. They are placed right in the middle of the couch. Sitting close together. Man has glasses, bald, and wearing a Yarmulka on his head. His style is very sophisticated and what would be called a nerd. Pocket protector, high-water tan dress pants, and a stripped button up shirt that was buttoned all the way to the neck. The wife had very short even hair. A long sleeveless dress that covered her chest and legs. The dress had a flower pattern. She wears glasses as well. The father sits up straight and stern. The mother who is deaf does not speak at all. She is hung ed over crying. Hands and Arms in lap] [Father is talking; He has a deep, strong voice] [Points to the camera with that stern look as if he is scolding] I will say this once, and only once. You.. Person out there. [Points to his chest] That's my daughter. [Hand comes down to wrap around the wife] My young baby girl that you have. The woman with her head straight. Her goals set. Her future... waiting. &You sir.. or miss.. took that away from her. Took that away from US. [Breaths very deep, and looks into his wife's eyes then back to forward] I know if my wife could speak… She would say so much of her pain. She would use the voice that she does not have, To express her sorrow. I highly doubt you understand when fingers speak. So I will tell you… That you do NOT know, Of how our daughter is a talented, intelligent young lady. We are not going to stand to have her taken away. I hope you know that. We will find you. And we will come after you. Whether she is dead or alive. She will be with us again. And you will be put away.. you vile.. vile.. man like creature. [Turns camera off] [Speaks to man next to camera] Project this live. I need it sent onto the air tonight. We have a lot to do this week if I want to find my girl. ______________________________________________________________________________ Act 1, Scene 4 AUGUSTUS [Sitting in a wooden chair, and legs are crossed males style. He is wearing dark brown trousers that are a little higher then normal pants length. Since they are so high up, it makes them look a bit like high waters. He is wearing a nice tucked in white button down shirt, and a green vest also tucked in. This man is bald, with a top hat and a red mustache. His body structure is fairly large, and fairly husky. His expression looks calm, yet not to be messed with. He speaks very seriously. Spoken in a strong German Accent] I've thought long and hart about dis… experiment. and I believe it needs to bloom. Into a beautiful story. for the world too see. for the world to witness. The depth within sex. within rape. within torture. I don't like Jewish, and pretty sure the name.. of Germany and Jew isn't connected. Its been years since the Natzi times. It’s been years since the word of Jews and Germans united. I only love to hate Jewish women. because they are beautiful. and well, being one the most.. unique.. sex slavery villains.. out there. I thought letting myself go a little would be interesting. Because no one knows I exist. How is dis possible you may ask? ... as watching dis. I'm far away from.. ground. [5 second pause] Anyway.. I’m giving too much away. but never the less. I'm letting them go. Who? ALL of the Jewish woman I own. I know you might dink dis brings business town. and I'm surrendering. But what I am surrendering too? I'm sick of seeing overly drugged dead woman. I’m sick of seeing my assistants complain because I don’t overly trug them enough. I’m sick of waiting. So they get to go home. Shipping them back there country. I pull Jewish woman from all over the world. My assistants, especially my youngest assistant. He toes good for finding the Jewish females. [Eyes widen at “blood”] It's as if… he can smell there blood. Not to scare you, but I am a very scary man. I hold the power of life in my hand, One family..I can recall sent a video live to the news across the America. I got your video from someone stationed in America. You must have good money to, to so. I don’t want your money. I just want to tell you... Your not going to find me. [Mimics] Parents of...Tikva. And I wouldn’t 't care if you did. Because my actions still went down in history. I’m old now a days. So, You can have your daughter back. She made good money, for a few weeks. I intended not to drug her much. Since she seemed to put up well even without drugs. Her duties.. are done though. &with her broken arm? I think you're going to want to fix that. [Happy and joyful, smiling] I'll ship her back to where we found her. &Like I said, Don’t try to find me. Because you won’t do much luck in the end. All right Lucas, turn off the video camera. [Lucas turns video camera off] Dis video document will go down in history. Set up the broadcaster and use you young people smarts of managing technology so this can air on every television show. The will start with America first. Make loads of DVD's too. I want backup copies to be shipped to America. People will see how vicious a man... can be. _____________________________________________________________________________ Act 1, Scene 6 ACTIVIST [A woman sitting in an office chair, in front of a large wooden desk. Placed in front of her is a laptop and a few papers. Behind her is a bookshelf filled with books about sex slavery and world issues. This woman has short straight black hair, and wears black glasses to cover her big green eyes. She was a woman suit. Navy Blue with white strips and sneakers. She sits upright and very firm] [Arms lay at her lap, hands folded together.] Just … tell me when to start. [Smiles] [3 second pause] Well, after loads of preparation and research. Stalking individuals for background information. Finally, we found the villain behind the mastermind of the Jewish sex slavery. It was very vulgar. But never the less. All of the woman from the American side of the sex slaves are back home with their families. Some deaths. Due to over dose of drugs of course. A family had a daughter named Tikva, who finally is safe. She said they were doing a video recording of her and other girls. But we have come across nothing yet. She is a very sweet girl. And it’s sad to say that people are like this. I am an activist against such things. We have brought down sex slavery in many countries. Germany by far. The German government was shocked to see that they had much left. Such a high “Pimp”. Now only 28% of known sex slavery remain. &Yes they did legalized Prostitution. But that’s a woman’s choice. Sex slavery isn’t. I will do what I can, to protect the name of humanity against forced sex. I’ve dealt with rape. I’ve dealt with abuse. I know how it feels. And it’s not pretty. &To bring all sad stories to a happy ending. This man by the name of Augustus is in Jail now. He has traces of being Psychopathic in his blood. His whole family was slaughtered as a child. It’s a sad way to grow up. All things come to an end. This is Jessica. Reporting the German Sex Slave story to a seize. Have a great day! [Turns video camera off] Alright ABC news. I hope you got what you were looking for. ______________________________________________________________________________ Act 1, Scene 8 TIKVA [ The same girl from monologue one is in front of her computer, while sitting on her bed. Room is colored in butterflies and green. She is speaking to the web cam on her computer. She is dressed in light blue jeans and a white v neck. Very clean looking. Hair is straight down. There is a window right next to her bed. The room is lightened brightly. She is sitting Indian style. ] [Speaks calmly, slow, and with a slight smile] Hey blogger, I know it’s been a while since I’ve last been able to show any of my “amazing” life. I’d like to say this is my last blog. I don’t believe in exploiting my personal life anymore. Sorry to disappoint those who actually have an interest in myself. I went on a pretty crazy adventure... One that that left me understand a few pretty interesting things in reality. [looks out her window for a few seconds, then looks back at web cam] I’m safe. The world isn’t crashing around me anymore. I’m home, With my family and my friends. My parents did everything they could to find me. Who knew I’d be in Germany? The activist set up a large riot to fight against sex slavery… Who would of thought this was turn into such a big crisis? I never on a regular basis would think about ending up where I did. It’s been a while since everything went down, And I’m just glad to be home. I take therapy almost everyday other day. &I think I turned lesbian after seeing so many men. But that isn’t the point. This showed me, That no matter how bad the situation.. Everything will be better in the end. I know it! I believe! Because it happened, To me. Everything will be all right. The world isn’t crashing around me anymore. I’m safe. &To all you young females out there, watch your back. I declare this my last video blog entry. Bye. [closes laptop] [She turns to the window. Her facial expression seems to randomly go blank as her eyes widen. Her body goes limp as she falls to the bed backwards.] ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Act 1, Scene 9 LUCAS [Lucas on the roof of a building. He is lying down and leans against the edge. He has a shot gun in his arms as he is aiming at a window in which is across the street. By his side a very young male child. He is holding a video camera recording as Lucas speaks] [Speaks through his teeth, holdings gun] I didn’t grow up with much in life. No family, No friends. No love. No money. I was better off dead than alive. Augustus the man who the American enemies all placed in prison, in which he settled from a heart attack. He was pretty old… He was everything to me. He gave me my love And my money And my family And my friends… A wife, three kids, a rich mans job… I lived the good life boy. Sure, my job wasn’t the nicest. Wasn’t the most loved? But it brought in more money then you could see in your lifetime. For you to take that all away from me? [Pauses for 3 seconds, as if he is about to cry, lips tremble] I should shoot you in the head like I did to that damn Bitch whose parents did this! [Places gun down, and stands up. Walks towards the camera and the boy] I don’t want to kill her parents. I want them to keep looking for me. Because this is not over. I was the brain behind the Augustus. I knew all his plans and his secrets. This business isn’t going down. I will just build it back up… &With your help son, [Rubs his sons head] Even after my death.. we will still be strong. [Goes back over the the gun and lays down] To you Americans.. Have fun watching this documentary. And have fun burying your dead daughter. [Lucas leans towards the edge, picks up the gun, and fires] [The young boy turns off video camera] ______________________________________________________________________________

Domestic Violence Relationships Where Do We Go From Here ?

Posted by Keisha Lumpkins in World History - Block on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 11:40 am

Women are shown in ads and places that do not take them serious. But what happens when one is assaulted or a victim of domestic violence from there partner? Do the media talk about it, or do they talk more about the Victoria Secret Model new photo shoot. “In 2005, 1,181 women were murdered by an intimate partner.1 That's an average of three women every day. Of all the women murdered in the U.S., about one-third were killed by an intimate partner”, from an article from NOW.com (National Organization for Women). No one notices these violent acts, but do notice the other things instead of the one main focus, Women in Domestic.

In 2009, one of the biggest events was happening, The Grammy’s. Singer Rihanna and her ex-boyfriend singer Chris Brown got into an atication driving there way to the Grammy’s.  Rihanna wanted to see who Chris was texting, supposely he was texting an old girlfriend. Rihanna wanted to see the text and Chris refused. The argument eventually turned into an physical attack onto Rihanna. Chris Brown hit, punched and even hit Rihanna. Now no one is bashing on Chris Brown what had happened is done and over with. The question that is being raised is, how come that situation was broadcast the day after, and no other situation like that was. While the was going on, someone else, another female could have been getting assaulted, or beat on by her boyfriend. The media doesn’t focus on the bigger issue of not just what happened between Chris Brown and Rihanna, but what is happening to women all over the country.

Situations such as Domestic Violence are never really brought up in the media unless someone gets brutally hurt, or even to the point killed. When a woman is being abused by her partner, or who ever, they report it, but it isn’t taking serious. Almost 35% of abusers are released from prison on bail after being held for abusing a woman. This action should be looked at more closely. If the abuser is release, don’t you think that he is going to go after the woman that he abused that got him locked up? Abusers aren’t looked at as actually armed and dangerous, but more non-stable when they are the ones that are armed and dangerous.

Some other abuses can be when the person was little. They could be abuse when they were little, and the anger from that could build up and take it out on other people. This is another example of people who take their anger out on people. They hit, and even kill people. This isn’t intentionally but it is hurtful to others that are the ones getting abuse. Sometimes the person that is getting abuse is the person the abuser doesn’t wants to abuse but they picture you as the other person they want to get back at.

Fear is another way woman get abused more. If the woman do not come forward telling what is going on, than the abuse is going to continue. Many abuses are not reported every year, over A high number of domestic violence and child abuse cases go unreported in the country. Almost 450 cases each year or even more. The country is striving to find out more about these cases, but if no one is coming forward to and telling about these abuses, no one can help them and they can not be reported.

Women you must come forward, it’s not the countries fought but it is there fought for not bringing it to attention. We need to notice it more.
